ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Deputies and firefighters found no victims when they responded to an area along the 700 block of Big Hanaford Road about 12:30 a.m. today where a Toyota RAV4 had collided with a cedar tree. The impact basically tore the vehicle in half, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It appeared the vehicle had been traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed before the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said responders conducted a grid search and used a special heat-seeking tool looking for anyone who may have been in the vehicle. A witness said a vehicle did stop shortly after the accident, so the driver may have either gotten a ride or walked away.

OUT OF CONTROL

• A 37-year-old homeless man was arrested after police were called about 7:20 a.m. yesterday to the 900 block of South Scheuber Road. Michael L. Hensley allegedly was combative, disorderly and resisted officers when he was contacted, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail
for interfering with a health care facility and resisting arrest, according to police.

BAD CHECKS

• Chehalis police were called about 10:40 a.m. yesterday to the 1700 block of North National Avenue to take a report of the receipt of checks for which there were non-sufficient funds.

DRUGS

• Chehalis police were summoned to the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street about 12:40 p.m. yesterday, told a student had illegal narcotics on them. There was no arrest and no report was submitted on the incident, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police took a report about 10:40 a.m. yesterday that someone broke out the driver’s side window to a vehicle at the 1500 block of Johnson Road. Nothing was taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

UNLAWFUL BEGGING

• John S. Youngbrandt, 44, of Centralia, was issued a notice of infraction about 6:40 p.m. yesterday at Harrison Avenue and northbound Interstate 5 for allegedly violating Centralia’s pan handling ordinance after previously being warned not to, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT, THEFT, THEFT

• A deputy was called to the 1600 block of Ferrier Road in Winlock yesterday where someone had gone into an area where the victim parks his vehicle and damaged the globe on an antique Mobile gas pump. It appeared someone tried to steal the pump sometime between 7 a.m. on Sunday and 4 p.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Centralia police were called to the 700 block of East Third Street about 2:20 p.m. yesterday where someone had apparently attempted to gain entry through the back door of  business, causing damage to the door. No entry was made however, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called to the 1100 block of J Street in Centralia about 12:10 p.m. yesterday to take a report someone had entered a house under renovation through a window and removed property.

• Centralia police were called to the 1100 block of North Washington Avenue about 10:45 a.m. yesterday for a residential burglary in which construction material and tools were taken. The back door was kicked in, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called to the 1500 block of Delaware Avenue about 8:45 a.m. yesterday to take a report of someone entering a house through an unlocked window. Nothing was discovered as missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Two outside motion-activated cameras were stolen from the 1000 block of Eckerson Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 11:50 a.m. yesterday.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

• Eli V. Nelson, 39 of Centralia, was arrested and booked into Lewis County Jail after being involved in a dispute at the 800 block of Hamilton Avenue in Centralia in which he allegedly broke a coffee pot and prevented the victim from calling 911 at around 5:35 p.m. yesterday, according to the Centralia Police Department.

Drowning: Randle man removes boots to help boy in pond, goes under himself

CHEHALIS – A 57-year-old Randle man is presumed drowned after going into a fishing pond to help a child who encountered trouble in the water yesterday in East Lewis County.

Deputies called about 7 p.m. to the area by Lake Scanewa along the 800 block of Falls Road spoke to three Randle boys and learned what had occurred within the previous half an hour or so.

When the 10-year-old found himself closer to deeper water, had difficulty swimming and screamed for help, the man took off his boots and entered the water, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

At some point, he had difficulty himself and went under, Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said today.

The sheriff’s office this morning was reaching out to dive teams from Thurston and Pierce counties to assist in locating the victim, Kimsey said.

The pond was described as 15 to 20 feet deep and about the size of three or four swimming pools, according to Kimsey.

Among the several witnesses were the boys, ages 10, 12 and 13. Kimsey said the man was a family friend who brought the kids to the fishing spot. His identity has not been released.

Update: Just after 1 p.m. today, the sheriff’s office said the victim was recovered by divers.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A car was traveling so fast when it ran a stop sign at South Scheuber and Graf roads in Centralia yesterday, it went airborne before landing, turning broadside and hitting an oncoming vehicle. Four adults were injured and a 1-year-old girl in the victim vehicle was unhurt, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers called just before 2:30 p.m. found a 41-year-old Chehalis man behind the wheel of a 2002 Volvo S60 had been traveling northbound. Michael J.  Page was transported to Tacoma General Hospital, according to the state patrol. His two passengers, Jason W. Stoker, 37, of Longview, and Jennifer L. German, 35, from Stanwood, were taken to Providence Centralia Hospital. The driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, 26-year-old Carin M. Landrum, of Chehalis, was also transported to Providence. The baby in the Equinox had been buckled in, according to the state patrol. Troopers suspect Page was impaired, according to Trooper Will Finn. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office dispatched about 1:30 p.m. to the wreck requested that the state patrol investigate the collision.

• A 30-year-old Centralia resident who allegedly ran a stop sign and T-boned another vehicle before fleeing the scene yesterday was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence as well as felony hit and run in Centralia. Police called just after 7 p.m. to South Pearl and Magnolia streets booked Ricardo Reyes-Atempa into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called about 6:25 p.m. yesterday for a hit and run collision in which the victim left before officers arrived. The at-fault driver remained at the scene at North Tower Avenue and First Street, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BREAK-IN CENTRALIA

• Officers responded to an in-progress burglary in which a male suspect was reportedly stealing property from a residence that was undergoing renovation at the 2300 block of Sirkka Avenue in Centralia about 4 p.m. yesterday. The case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• A purse was stolen in a vehicle prowl at the 2000 block of Borst Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 11:30 a.m. yesterday.

• Centralia police were called for a vehicle prowl at the 500 block of Harrison Avenue about 9:15 a.m. yesterday in which a purse was taken.

• A wallet was stolen in a vehicle prowl at the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 8:25 a.m. yesterday.

AUTO THEFT

• A vehicle dealership at the 1500 block of Northwest State Avenue in Chehalis reported just before noon yesterday they were missing a 1999 Mercedes Benz. By 2:30 p.m., Centralia police had found the car abandoned at Reynolds Avenue and Johnson Road in Centralia. The owner was notified they could pick it up, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DIAMOND NECKLACE MISSING

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning they were contacted by a 21-year-old woman whose makeup bag containing a $6,000 diamond necklace vanished from a home where she stayed with a friend on Sunday night at the 300 block of Winston Creek Road outside of Mossyrock. There is no suspect information, according to the sheriff’s office.

FRAUD

• An individual reported from the 500 block of West Summa Street in Centralia just before 9 a.m. yesterday that someone had used their name to fraudulently open up multiple credit card accounts.

• A pedestrian who ran into a crosswalk was struck by a vehicle and injured at Harrison Avenue and Johnson Road in Centralia yesterday evening. Police called at 7:45 p.m. state the patient was transported to the hospital for treatment. The motorist was found not at fault because a  “don’t walk” signal was active at the time, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police report a pedestrian in a crosswalk suffered a broken leg when hit by a vehicle at Pearl and Main streets in Centralia just before 4 p.m. yesterday. The driver was issued a notice of infraction, according to the Centralia Police Department.

Fifty more pounds of meth confiscated in Lewis County

CHEHALIS – For the third week in a row, local drug detectives seized a very large amount of methamphetamine from a vehicle when they conducted a traffic stop yesterday on Interstate 5 near Napavine.

Fifty pounds of the drug was pulled from a green Chevrolet truck with Oregon license plates, according to Centralia Police Department Cmdr. Pat Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald described it as a continuing investigation and said the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team was working with law enforcement from Oregon as well as members of Homeland Security Investigations.

The driver, 25-year-old Antonio D. Beltran-Villanueva from Portland Oregon, was arrested for drug trafficking and booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday morning.

Fitzgerald said K-9 Axel and partner assisted and one pound of meth was discovered under the driver’s seat and then an additional 44 bundles were located in the box of the truck. Beltran-Villanueva did not have a valid driver’s license, according to Fitzgerald.

JNET is made up of officers from the Centralia Police Department, the Chehalis Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington state Department of Corrections.

Three men were arrested last Thursday when two vehicles met up with officers in the parking lot of Home Depot in Chehalis and the trunk of a car with California plates was found to contain just over 23 pounds of meth and a little more than two pounds of heroin.

The Thursday before that, the team confiscated 126 pounds of meth from the sleeping berth of a big rig hauling Starbuck’s products between California and Spokane after a traffic stop. Two men were arrested. They also located just under two and a half pounds of heroin, several thousand Oxycodone pills and a few grams of cocaine.

The various arrestees have been from California, Mexico, Vancouver, Washington and one had a temporary identification card out of Stone Park, Illinois.

• A 37-year-old woman was arrested after she was found passed out in a parked vehicle with an infant as well as numerous drug items on and around her person at the 300 block of Lowe Street in Centralia overnight. Kristen M. Karboski, of Centralia, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of heroin and for endangerment with a controlled substance, according to the Centralia Police Department. The baby was placed into the custody of Child Protective Services, according to police.

• A 34-year-old Centralia resident arrested for an outstanding warrant just after 8 p.m. yesterday was also arrested for possession of heroin at the 500 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia. Kalina J. Goodwin was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FRAUD

• Centralia police wee called to the 3000 block of Borst Avenue just after 11 a.m. yesterday to take a report of a debit card which had been stolen and used online.

CAR PROWL

• Several items were reported stolen from a parked vehicle at the 2000 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia when the victim discovered somebody had broken into her vehicle and police were called about 10:15 p.m. yesterday.
