NOW THAT’S MALICIOUS MISCHIEF

• Someone wired back the control levers to cause an excavator to roll down an embankment at a Centralia area logging site, where it came to rest upside down in a creek. The John Deere 135G track excavator with a 21-foot boom is worth several thousand dollars, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning. An employee of Chehalis Rentals who went to retrieve the piece of equipment yesterday morning from off the 100 block of Blanchard Road said it occurred sometime since 10 a.m. the day before, according to the sheriff’s office. It will take a larger piece of equipment to recover the machine, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

AUTO THEFT

• A 2002 Honda Civic was reported stolen from the 1100 block of H Street, according to a report made to police about 7:50 a.m. yesterday. It has a license plate reading 987 ZON, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Centralia police were called yesterday to the 1100 block of J Street about an overnight theft of a craftsmen generator from a motor home.

• License plates were reported stolen from the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road in Centralia yesterday morning.

• Chehalis police were called just before 11 a.m. yesterday about an early morning vehicle prowl on the 900 block of Northwest State Avenue. The registration was stolen, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Coins and fuses were among the items missing from a vehicle at the 500 block of Northeast Jefferson Avenue in Chehalis, according to a report made to police about 2:40 p.m. yesterday.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday to the 100 block of Northeast Washington Avenue where sometime over the weekend someone had emptied out the glove box of a vehicle.

BUILDING PROWL

• Centralia police were called just before 1 p.m. yesterday to the 400 block of West Center Street following the discovery someone had gone into a crawl space and rummaged through stored items. Nothing was missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAMPAIGN SIGNS SNAGGED

• Centralia police were called at noon yesterday again for because of the theft of political signs from a yard at the 1000 block of North Pearl Street.

DRUGS

• A deputy called about 5:15 a.m. yesterday about a person hiding in bushes near a bathroom at Thousand Trails Campground on the 2200 block of Centralia-Alpha Road contacted a 33-year-old Puyallup man who said he was camping with his family, and then found he had two outstanding warrants, and then found he had a crystal substance that field-tested positive for drugs. Brandon L. Peterson was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

SECURITY RV BROKEN INTO

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday a camper belonging to a person who provides security at logging sites was burglarized some time between 8 p.m. on Friday and about 12:50 p.m. on Saturday. A deputy called to the area at Centralia-Alpha and Coal Creek roads learned that among the missing valuables was a 45 caliber pistol, a passport, a small flat screen television and two generators, according to the sheriff’s office.

AUTO THEFT

• A deputy was called to the 100 block of Gleason Road outside Centralia about 3:30 p.m. on Friday when the owner of a 1990 Honda Accord discovered her car was missing from where it was parked at her residence. There is a person of interest, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Someone broke a window and stole a Ruger American 223 rifle from a vehicle parked near Galvin and River Heights roads on Sunday while its owner was floating the river, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

DRUGS

• A 40-year-old Winlock man was arrested over the weekend after a pipe stem with residue was found when he emptied his pockets for police after being stopped for riding a bicycle with no headlight. Barry W. Worley came across two officers about 3:15 a.m. on Saturday near Northwest Kerron Avenue in Winlock and was later arrested for possession of meth after the substance field-tested positive for the drug, according to information provided to prosecutors by Toledo Police Officer Randy Pennington. Worley was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

• A 28-year-old man who reportedly was running in and out of traffic in Chehalis was arrested for disorderly conduct and then subsequently for possession of methamphetamine. A deputy responding about 5:40 a.m. on Friday to Market Boulevard at Fourth Street located a glass pipe with residue that field tested positive for amphetamine, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Jason R. Chandler, from Raymond, was was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

SEX CRIME

• An 18-year-old Centralia resident was arrested on Friday after adults learned from a 13-year-old girl and texts on her cell phone the two had been dating almost a year and engaged in sex. Austin R. Nachatilo was booked into the Lewis County Jail and then charged on Monday in Lewis County Superior Court with second-degree rape of a child and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. His bail was set at $20,000.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Deputies responded about 7 p.m. on Sunday to a collision near milepost 3.5 of Skate Creek Road North in East Lewis County finding a 2004 WRX Subaru totaled. It appeared the car came around the corner too fast, skidded and possibly rolled over before running into the trees, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. There was no driver to be found but a box of cold beer was located nearby, according to the sheriff’s office.

• A Salkum man was arrested for driving under the influence after his motorcycle skidded through the intersection at North Military and Nevil roads in Winlock and collided with concrete blocks and stumps. A deputy responding to the approximately 2:20 a.m. wreck on Sunday reported Roy L. Coleman was taken to the hospital to be checked out and needed to stay there so he was cited, given a court date and then released, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

MEDICATIONS STOLEN IN NIGHT FROM CARE FACILITY

• Centralia police were called at 5:30 a.m. today to a residential care facility following the discovery that someone moved a medication cart into a stairwell, pried it open and stole narcotics. It happened sometime between 11 p.m. yesterday and 4 o’clock this morning at the 2000 block of Cooks Hill Road, according to the Centralia Police Department.

AUTO THEFT

• Chehalis police were called just after 2 o’clock this morning about a black 1995 Honda Accord that vanished from the 600 block of Northwest Quincy Avenue. Last night, the owner had noticed its back license plate was missing which turned out to have turned up earlier in the evening on a vehicle stopped in Centralia, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The stolen plate was returned but the car is still gone, police said this morning.

• Centralia police were called about 10:50 a.m. yesterday regarding a vehicle stolen during the night from the 200 block of West Reynolds Avenue and then recovered out in the county. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 8:25 a.m. on Saturday to the 2100 block of Northwest National Avenue where an individual located a friend’s pickup truck stolen from Centralia. The owner came and got it, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

FAKE BILLS TRICK MACHINE

• Chehalis police are investigating after a shopper managed to spend five counterfeit $100 bills at the self service check out at Wal-Mart. An officer called on Friday morning to the retailer on the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue was told it occurred the day before and it appeared to be a male customer, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Police were called about 7:40 a.m. yesterday to the 700 block of H Street in Centralia regarding an overnight vehicle prowl. The stereo was missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• An individual called Chehalis police about 9:30 p.m. on Friday after running into a store 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue for about 10 minutes and returning to find her truck was prowled. One door had been unlocked and someone stole a sweatshirt and house keys as well as removing the LED screens from an engine monitoring device on the dashboard, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

TEEN POKES OFFICER IN CHEST, GETS BOOKED

• An 18-year-old Centralia resident was arrested just before 2 o’clock this morning after allegedly poking a police officer in the chest at the 200 block of South Iron Street in Centralia. Jephthah D. Appiah Donkor was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department.

LOST AND FOUND

• Chehalis police were called on Friday afternoon to Northwest State Avenue and North Street where a “huge” knife was discovered stuck in a fence. It looks like a large “Bowie-style” type blade, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DISSATISFIED DINER

• Chehalis police were called about 3:40 p.m. on Friday to a restaurant on the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue where a customer unhappy with poor service was demanding compensation. An officer took a report “for information only” and told the customer not to return to the business, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

THREE INJURED IN MORTON WRECK

• A 6-year-old boy in one vehicle was injured and three little girls in another were reportedly unhurt in a collision yesterday afternoon on U.S. Highway 12 at Morton. Two adults were hurt as well, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers called at 4:50 p.m. found the Honda Civic and Oldsmobile Silhouette van both totaled. Teshia M. Reed, 29, from Spanaway, was southbound on state Route 7 and turned left to head east on U.S. Highway 12, according to the state patrol. Her Civic struck the westbound van, the investigating trooper reported. The van’s driver, 55-year-old John Jakubowski, from Randle, was also reportedly unhurt. However, his passenger 38-year-old Dora M. Jakubowski, Reed and Reed’s 6-year-old passenger were all transported to Morton General Hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol. The state patrol indicated Reed failed to yield the right of way and faces charges of reckless endangerment and vehicular assault as well as a ticket for driving without a valid license. Alcohol appeared to be involved, according to a preliminary summary of the incident.

VIOLENCE

• A 31-year-old woman was arrested for second-degree assault overnight after Centralia police were called to a fight in a parking lot at the 1000 block of Scammon Creek Road. Officers responding to the approximately 1:20 p.m. call booked Mandy L. Williams, of Centralia, into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 26-year-old Centralia man was arrested after police responded about 5:30 p.m. yesterday to an altercation at a bar on the 100 block of South Tower Avenue. Gregorio Cordero was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police responded to an approximately 3:10 p.m. call yesterday at the 1600 block of Eshom Road where an individual allegedly violated a protection order and damaged the front door as he was leaving. The case is being investigated as a second-degree burglary, according to the Centralia Police Department.

SHED BURGLED

• Police were called to the 1400 block of Lewis Street in Centralia on Friday afternoon about a break-in to a shed. Taken were two hand drills, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CASH MISSING

• Centralia police were called to the 1400 block of Lois Lane just before 11 a.m. on Friday to take a report of the theft of money from a residence.
