• A burglary was reported at about 6:35 a.m. today to a business on the 100 block of East High Street in Centralia. The break-in is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 34-year-old Centralia man was arrested after he allegedly attempted to sell stolen tires in a case reported about 10:10 a.m. on Wednesday associated with a location on the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia. Matthew R. Horton Jr. was booked into the Lewis County Jail for trafficking in stolen property, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called about the theft of packages from a residence on the 2200 block of Cooks Hill Road at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

• Chehalis police were contacted about 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a possible scam in a case associated with a location on the 1500 block of North National Avenue.

• Chehalis police were called to the 700 block of Southwest 18th Street at about 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday for a vehicle prowl.

DRUGS

• A 36-year-old Centralia resident picked up on an outstanding warrant at the 600 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of more than 40 grams of marijuana. Rodolfo Romo was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called about 2:20 p.m. yesterday to take a report that an unknown person entered a residence at the 1300 block of Harrison Avenue during the night and stole a ring.

VEHICLE THEFT

• A gray 2005 Ford F350 pickup truck was stolen during the night from the 200 block of West Main Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police at about 8:55 a.m. yesterday.

• A black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was stolen sometime during the night from the 1100 block of Kresky Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 8:10 a.m. yesterday. It has a license plate reading C73802M, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT

• Chehalis police were contacted about 2:45 p.m. yesterday to take a report of a theft in a case associated with the 700 block of Southwest 19th Street. An investigation continues, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police were called to the 100 block of Virginia Drive just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday where several unlocked vehicles had been prowled.

BRIBERY ARREST

• An 18-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for bribery in a case from about 1:15 p.m. yesterday associated with the 1400 block of Lewis Street in Centralia. Scotlyn R. Anderson was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FRAUD

• Centralia police reported yesterday they are investigating after an individual sent money for a deposit and rent on a house fraudulently advertised on Craigslist. In the case associated with the 900 block of G Street and reported to police just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities learned that a company listed the home for rent, but not on Craigslist, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 32-year-old Shelton resident contacted by police about 2:45 a.m. today at the 900 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia was arrested for possession of heroin. Kristan K. Ramirez was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• When police detained a 28-year-old Chehalis man just after noon yesterday for an outstanding warrant at the 500 block of North Market Boulevard, a search incident to his arrest turned up a white crystal substance, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
Drake A. Lorber was booked into the Lewis County Jail and the substance was sent to the lab for testing, according to police.

GUNSHOT

• Chehalis police were called about a gunshot at the firing range above the 2000 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue at 4:42 p.m. yesterday. No injury was noted and no criminal action taken, but the incident is being handled by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.  because it involved a county employee, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BARN FIRE

• One person sustained burns to the forearm trying to free a goat in a burning barn in rural Chehalis early yesterday morning. Firefighters called just after 5 a.m. to the 300 block of Stearns Road arrived to find a 36-foot by 36-foot barn containing hay fully involved in flames, according to Lewis County Fire District 6. They were assisted by personnel from Lewis County Fire Districts 5 and 13 as well as Riverside Fire Authority and the Chehalis Fire Department, according to District 6’s DJ Hammer. The building and its contents were a total loss. The injured party declined ambulance transport, taking themselves to Providence Centralia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment, according to Hammer. The cause is under investigation.

FIRE INVESTIGATION

• Investigators are looking into what ignited a fire during the night at the base of an exterior porch on a Centralia area home. Crews called about 3:45 a.m. today to the scene west of town learned the man who lived there attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher while a woman resident called 911. The pair had discovered smoke inside the house when their dogs woke them up, according to Riverside Fire Authority. Firefighters found the fire had burned a portion of the porch and part of the outside wall. It was extinguished. The damage is estimated at $10,000, according to Fire Capt. Scott Weinert.

BURGLARY CHEHALIS

• Chehalis police were asked to check out a residence on the 600 block of Northwest Quincy Place about 6:20 p.m. yesterday because the owner who was out of town got a call there was someone hanging around there. Arriving police contacted an individual coming out of the home in possession of an item from inside, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Aaron W. Neldon, 51, a relative of the owner, was arrested for second-degree burglary and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police were called about 12:10 a.m. today to the 100 block of Virginia Drive on a report of an unknown suspect attempting to gain entry into several parked vehicles.

DRUGS

• When Centralia police contacted a 40-year-old Centralia man at South Scheuber and Cooks Hills roads at about 3:35 p.m. yesterday for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, they also arrested him for possession of methamphetamine. Cyrus J. Robinson was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

UNDERAGE DRINKING

• Chehalis police contacted a group of males about 9:10 p.m. yesterday at Front and Prindle streets who had been consuming alcohol. A case is being forwarded to prosecutors for a charge of minor in possession and/or consumption of alcohol related to a 17-year-old boy, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

Coroner: Man shot dead by deputies is from Pierce County

CHEHALIS – The Lewis County Coroner’s Office this morning said the man shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies over the weekend near Glenoma is identified as 40-year-old Robert D. Richardson, of Graham.

Richardson died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Coroner Warren McLeod.

A Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputy and reserve deputy fired their duty weapons at Richardson when he brandished and pointed a weapon at them on the 100 block of Rainey Creek Road around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, according to the initial information released by the sheriff’s office. The shooting is being investigated by a a multi-agency team comprised of detectives from four nearby sheriff’s offices plus the Washington State Patrol.

According to Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey, the two law enforcement officers were on patrol when they contacted a man in a “suspicious” vehicle parked on a dead-end road. They learned he had a no-bail warrant out of Pierce County for first-degree child rape and two counts of second-degree child molestation, and when they asked him to step out of his vehicle, he pointed a weapon at them, prompting them to shoot at him.

The deputies were placed on administrative leave.

A review of superior court cases in Pierce County shows charges filed and a warrant issued early last month for a man of the same name.

HIS CAR ‘FROM THE FUTURE’

• Chehalis police were called about 7:45 a.m. on Monday when an individual reported a man had tried to break into his car while he was inside of it at the 10 block of North Market Boulevard. He came up and said it was “his car from the future,” according to the Chehalis Police Department. The motorist locked his doors and tried to leave but the other man was hanging onto the outside of the car, according to police. He eventually let go and officers contacted the suspect a block or so away, the police department said. Jason R. Angell, 32, of Chehalis, was arrested for motor vehicle theft and booked into the Lewis County Jail. It was a white 2006 Acura MDX.

THREAT

• A 40-year-old Centralia man was arrested for felony harassment on Monday in a case associated with the 100 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia. Officers called about 5:20 p.m. on Monday to the 100 block of South Tower Avenue arrested John A. Chacon II for disorderly conduct and then subsequently for the alleged harassment, according to the Centralia Police Department. Chacon was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

ASSAULT

• Centralia police arrested a 31-year-old man who allegedly assaulted them as they were trying to arrest him for allegedly assaulting his mother during a dispute at the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue around 3 p.m. on Saturday.. John M. McCarthy, a person with no address, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department. The officers sustained minor scrapes, according to police.

• Centralia police were called about 4:15 p.m. on Sunday to take a report that items had been stolen from a vehicle at the 300 block of Linda Lane about a month earlier.

• Centralia police were called to the 1800 block of Cooks Hill Road about 2:40 p.m. on Saturday to take a report of theft of medications.

• Chehalis police were called about 8:25 a.m. on Saturday because a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen from an impound yard on the 200 block of West Main Street. It was a stolen truck Centralia police had recovered the day before, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Police were called to the 700 block of Harrison Avenue about 7:05 a.m. on Saturday where an individual reported items were stolen from his motel room.

• Centralia police were called about 11:40 a.m. on Friday to the 1500 block of Delaware Avenue where they recovered a truck stolen in Puyallup.

OUTDOOR BURNING

• Officers called about a “warming fire” under the carport of a building on the 100 block of West Magnolia Street in Centralia just before midnight on Saturday issued a citation to 34-year-old Elizabeth J. Lovato of Centralia for reckless burning, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Chehalis police were called to the 700 block of Northwest St. Helens Avenue about 4:35 p.m. on Monday where someone had broken out the front windshield of a car.

• Chehalis police were called to the 500 block of Northwest St. Helens Avenue about 1 p.m. on Monday to investigate a case of malicious mischief.

Sheriff’s Office: Wanted man points weapon, gets shot

CHEHALIS – An autopsy was scheduled for today on a man shot and killed by deputies who say he pointed a weapon at them when they attempted to detain him on a warrant related to child sex crimes, on a dead-end road in East Lewis County.

It happened about 1:15 a.m. on Sunday in between Glenoma and Randle, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy and reserve deputy involved were placed on administrative leave per protocol while the investigation takes place, according to sheriff’s Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey.

According to Kimsey, the two were on patrol when they located a suspicious vehicle parked on the 100 block of Rainey Creek Road. When they checked the sole occupant’s driving status, they also learned he had a no-bail warrant  out of Pierce County for first-degree child rape and two counts of second-degree child molestation, Kimsey said in a press release.

As deputies requested the man to step out of the vehicle, the man brandished and pointed a weapon at the deputies, according to Kimsey.

Both deputies fired their duty weapons at the man, to end the threat, Kimsey stated. Aid was rendered, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by a multi-agency Critical Incident Investigation Team. CIIT is comprised of investigators from Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor and Pacific counties, as well as the Washington State Patrol. Kimsey would not specify what sort of weapon the deceased had used.

The Lewis County Coroner’s Office is responsible for releasing the name of the deceased.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

• Chehalis police were called about 9:35 p.m. yesterday by a woman near the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue who said her significant other had broken her nose. She was transported to the hospital for treatment and the suspect located a couple of blocks away was arrested for second-degree domestic assault, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Ramiro E. Adams, 33, of Chehalis, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• Officers called about 1:50 p.m. yesterday and asked to check on a shirtless, shoeless man at a park near Southwest 12th Street in Chehalis subsequently learned he had thrown a knife at a women in a nearby residence. Eugene S. McFall, 36, from Centralia, was arrested for second-degree domestic assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A purse and about $400 in cash was taken in a vehicle prowl at the 400 block of West Summa Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 1 p.m. yesterday.
