STOLEN VEHICLES

• Centralia police took a report about 3 o’clock this morning of a truck stolen from the 800 block of North Washington Avenue. The green 1994 Nissan two-door was last seen about 10 p.m. last night, according to the Centralia Police Department. It has a license plate that reads A97439T.

• Police have a suspect in the theft of a car reported stolen from the 1700 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia yesterday afternoon. The blue 2000 Toyota Corolla has a license plate of 169 ZHM.

• Chehalis police were called bout 4 p.m. yesterday about a Honda Accord stolen from Cascade Avenue. Subsequent investigation concluded the car was missing because it had been impounded, according to police.

MONEY REPORTED MISSING FROM ATM

• Chehalis police yesterday took a report of the theft of cash from an ATM at Riverside Golf Club on Northwest Airport Road. Police Sgt. Rick McNamara said the machine wasn’t working, it was being serviced and the case is still under investigation. He didn’t yet know the amount of money missing.

CHAINSAWS LIFTED FROM BACK OF TRUCK

• A deputy took a report yesterday morning of two Stihl chainsaws stolen from Bucks Logging of Salkum, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The chainsaws were taken from the bed of a truck parked at the 300 block of Leonard Road in Onalaska sometime between 7 p.m. Sunday and 4 a.m. Monday, according to the sheriff’s office. The loss is estimated at $2,000.

GRAFFITI

• Centralia police took a report yesterday of what they described as gang-style graffiti on the back of a storage building at Fords Prairie and Harrison avenues.

MOTORIST DISCOVERED IN CREEK AFTER FLEEING TRAFFIC STOP

• A Longview man with an outstanding warrant was found hiding in China Creek in Centralia this morning after a traffic stop in which he reportedly gave an officer a false name and then ran away. The approximately 6:30 a.m. incident happened near West Cherry and Yew streets. Richard J. Gaskill, 27, was located quickly and booked into the Lewis County Jail for the warrant, driving with a suspended license and other offenses such as obstruction, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT OF POOP

• Chehalis police were called Sunday about an incident on Northwest St. Helens Avenue where a woman said somebody came into her yard overnight and took her rabbit’s droppings.

BURGLARY IN CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called about 9 p.m. yesterday to a residential burglary on the 600 block of South Washington Avenue where “several electronics” were missing. Police said entry was made through an unsecured door.

GUNS MISSING AFTER BREAK-IN

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office says it has a “person of interest” in a Centralia area burglary in which somebody forced open a gun safe and stole several firearms. A couple who live on the 2000 block of Van Wormer Street returned home about 10 p.m. last Thursday to find roughly $2,800 of valuables missing, including the guns, some jewelry and a bottle of Oxycontin, according to the sheriff’s office.

FOOD, COOKWARE AMONG ITEMS STOLEN FROM CABIN

• Somebody burglarized a Mineral area weekend cabin and shop taking canned meat, a crock pot, a tool box a battery charger and other items, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy was called Saturday morning to the 100 block of Round Top Road to take a report from the Tacoma resident.

CASH STOLEN FROM CHRISTMAS TREE BUSINESS

• Somebody stole more than $1,300 cash from a Silver Creek Christmas tree business when they broke into a building on the 300 block of Gershick Road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The burglary occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. on Thursday, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. Money was taken from a tip jar, a kitchen drawer and a cash register, Brown said.

BURGLAR TAKES NOTHING

• Police were called to an unoccupied house on the 200 block of North Buckner Street about 10 a.m. on Saturday where somebody forced their way inside, but nothing appeared to be stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWLS

• Two individuals were arrested for vehicle prowl after they were seen trying to open a car door in an apartment parking lot at the 1400 block of Johnson Road in Centralia about 2 a.m. on Saturday. Michael A. Gonzalez-Fox, 19, of Lacey, and Mykl C. Teeter, 18, of Olympia, were arrested according to Centralia police.

• Chehalis police were called just before noon on Friday to a report of a vehicle prowl on Northeast Cascade Avenue that had occurred overnight.

COUNTY SHOP BURGLARIZED

• Somebody cut a hole in a chain link fence at the Lewis County Central Shop compound on the 100 block of Forest-Napavine Road East and made off with a five-gallon propane tank, according to the sheriff’s office. It happened sometime between 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 o’clock the following morning, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown reported.

CRASHES

• Aid was called about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday to a single-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 603 near Peterson Road outside Chehalis. The three occupants were all apparently uninjured, according to Lewis County Fire District 6.

• A motorist was hospitalized after her car struck a golf cart on Interstate 5 in Chehalis on Saturday. Aid was called about 7:15 a.m. to the southbound lanes south of the Main Street interchange. The 58-year-old Federal Way woman’s 2001 Saturn sustained front end damage, according to the Washington State Patrol. The driver, Vanessa Hardin, was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with head, neck and wrist pain, according to responders.

• A Toledo man was arrested for driving under the influence after a rollover collision late on Friday night on the 800 block of Spencer Road outside Toledo. George M. Catlin, 53, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

WATCH OUT FOR THOSE TREES

• Motorists are being advised one lane of southbound Interstate 5 near the Tootle River Rest Area will be closed parts of this week while workers cut down large fir trees on the west side of the freeway. Heavy rain followed by strong winds last Monday night caused several trees to fall onto the roadway in that area, near milepost 55 just south of the Lewis-Cowlitz county line. Crews will be removing at-risk trees there on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. this week, according to the state Department of Transportation.

VEHICLE STRIKES FENCE, SMASHES SHED

• Police and aid were called about 8 p.m. last night after an SUV ran a stop sign at Airport Road in Centralia and ran into a fence destroying a small storage shed on the other side at the city’s former  sewage treatment plant on Mellen Street. The driver was reportedly uninjured.

STOLEN STUFF

• Chehalis police were called about 3:45 p.m. yesterday to an apartment on the 600 block of Northwest West Street where a stereo was reported stolen.

• A 22-year-old Kelso woman, Amy D. Ingram, was arrested  for vehicle prowl after being caught inside a vehicle on the 400 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia about 8:45 a.m. yesterday, according to Centralia police.

• Police were called about 2:20 p.m. yesterday to the 700 block of E Street in Centralia for a car prowl. A battery and other items were missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police called to a shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart yesterday evening arrested a 32-year-old Centralia man for taking a cell phone and video games and for possession of drugs without a prescription. Police Chief Glenn Schaffer said eight hydrocodone pills were found on Tyler J. David. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

MORE DRUGS

• Johnny C. Allen, 40, of Silver Creek, was arrested yesterday afternoon following a traffic stop on the 100 block of Avery Road West when a deputy found a small plastic baggie with white residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the  Lewis County Sheriff’s Office

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday a 51-year-old Randle man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop about 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday on the 7500 block of Glenoma Road. Delbert E. Goble was booked into the Lewis County Jail also for third-degree driving with a suspended license after a  deputy found a glass pipe and a small plastic bag with suspected methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office.

VANDALISM

• Three males were seen running away from the railroad station in Centralia about 12:20 a.m. today after a rock was thrown through a window, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday of vehicle tires being slashed on the 300 block of North Pearl Street.

PACK OF DOGS SUSPECTED IN MASS ALPACA ATTACK

• Six alpacas were killed yesterday at the 1400 block of South Schueber Road outside Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said a farmer heard noise and went outside early yesterday morning and saw something had attacked his animals. “He saw eyes, with a  flashlight, he thought were dogs, we don’t know if it was dogs or coyotes or what,” Brown said. Six other alpacas were left alive, she said. Brown said she assumes it was more than one dog. A deputy took a report and notified the code enforcement people, she said. Unless they get reports of another incident or sighting of a pack of dogs, there isn’t much the sheriff’s office can do, according to Brown. “Sometimes, unfortunately, Mother Nature – the animals – takes it course,” she said.

TRUCK TAKEN OVERNIGHT IN CENTRALIA

• A blue 1984 Toyota pickup truck was reported stolen  just before 5:30 a.m. today from the 500 block of North Iron Street in Centralia. The four-wheel drive vehicle has a black canopy and a black tube bumper and black aluminum wheels, according to police. It bears the license plate B38191L, according to police.

ROCK PIT OFFICE RANSACKED

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning somebody broke into a small office at the Hope Creek rock pit off the 400 block of state Route 6 and stole two generators, a CB radio and two five-gallon gas cans. The break in occurred sometime between Friday and Monday when it was reported, according to the sheriff’s office. Somebody cut a lock on a gate to get in. The loss is estimated at more than $1,400.

TEEN ARRESTED WITH METH

• Officers arrested a male juvenile on a warrant about 6 p.m. last night at a home on the 1500 block of Delaware Avenue. The subject, whose age and name were not released, was also found to be in  possession of suspected methamphetamine, according to police. He was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center.

TOOL BOX, CABLES TAKEN FROM VEHICLE

• Centralia police were called las night about 9:20 p.m. about a car prowl earlier in the evening on the 800 block of North Pearl Street. Jumper cables and a tool box were missing.

QUICK DRAW CHAMP SHOOTS SELF IN LEG

• A Tenino area man who told deputies he is a national “quick draw” champion was injured when he was practicing in his living room and his .45 caliber revolver discharged before it cleared its holster, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said this morning. It happened on the 17,800 block of Brittney Lane Southwest on Friday afternoon. The projectile lodged under the skin above his knee, and the 53-year-old told deputies he thought it was not a round – because the gun is normally loaded with blanks – but was the packing for the cartridge, according to the sheriff’s office. However, it was a .45 caliber bullet that put a hole in his holster and entered his thigh, according to the sheriff’s office. Medics said the injury was not life-threatening, Lt. Chris Mealy said this morning.

FEMALE CALLS POLICE, GETS ARRESTED

• A woman who contacted Centralia police yesterday about her vehicle being impounded found herself in jail after an officer discovered she had an outstanding municipal court warrant and then a search turned up suspected methamphetamine. Rachel L. Myers, 22, of Oakville, was arrested and then booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

MAN ARRESTED WITH STOLEN VEHICLE

• A 41-year-old Centralia man was arrested yesterday morning for driving with a suspended license and possession a stolen vehicle after a contact with an officer about 10 a.m. near exit 82 in Centralia. Keith A. Obrist was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

TEAM WORK AT GLASS PLANT PAYS OFF, FIRE DEPT. SAYS

• Lewis County Fire District 5 is praising the emergency response  team in place at Cardinal Glass in Winlock after an incident yesterday morning in which 911 was called for an employee having chest pains. Fire Districts 5 and 15 have been training with the industrial plants in-house responders, something that yesterday morning helped achieve  what Fire Lt. Laura Hanson called  a seamless response at the plant with multiple buildings and doors. The man, whose name and age were not released, was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital and then transferred to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia where he was in critical condition yesterday afternoon, Hanson said.

COLLISION SENDS CAR OFF FREEWAY INTO WATER

• A car was pushed off Interstate 5 into about two feet of water yesterday near Centralia when a pickup truck changed lanes and collided with the car. Troopers were called just before 6 p.m. to the northbound lanes in between Mellen Street and Chamber of Commerce Way. The 62-year-old Tumwater woman in the wrecked Nissan Maxima was reportedly uninjured. A 43-year-old motorist from Raymond was cited for an unsafe lane change, according to the state patrol.

ELK VERSUS PICKUP TRUCK

• A Glenoma man was hospitalized after the truck he was driving yesterday morning about 9 a.m. hit an elk on the 600 block of Davis Lake Road in  Morton, according the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The 1995 Dodge Ram sustained extensive damage and the driver ended up with a cut above his eye as well as several minor scrapes and bruises, according to the sheriff’s office.

TEEN CRASHES, ARRESTED FOR DUI

• A 16-year-old Chehalis area boy was arrested for driving under the influence after a minor single-vehicle accident about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday near Frogner and Twin Oaks roads outside Chehalis, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

DRIVER HITS FIRE HYDRANT

• Police were called about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday to North Gold and East Third streets where a motorist had reportedly lost control of his vehicle and struck a fire hydrant. James A. Bitner, 27, of Centralia, was cited for hit and run and driving with a suspended license, according to Centralia police.

DISTURBANCES IN CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were investigating a misdemeanor assault around 11:40 p.m. on Saturday on the 100 block of South Tower Avenue where an adult male was reportedly unconscious. All witnesses and the victim were intoxicated and uncooperative, according to police. The victim was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital to be checked out and treated. No arrests were made.

• A disturbance at a Centralia restaurant around midnight Saturday ended with a 37-year-old man arrested for obstructing and resisting arrest, according to Centralia police. Thomas J. Harris Jr. of Chehalis was arrested and then released after the incident at the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue.

STOLEN STUFF

• Centralia police yesterday afternoon arrested three individuals at the 2000 block of Haviland Street in connection with attempting to pass stolen pre-paid debit cards. Booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of stolen property second-degree were Ryan L. Rosa, 30, of Lakewood, George D. Dale, 40, of Ravensdale and Maurina D. Brandt, 43, of Bellingham, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police arrested two people on Saturday in connection with  wiring stolen from Darigold in Chehalis. Police detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said an officer got word the wire was sold to a metal recycler. Jeffery R. Frohlich, 26, and Mary A. S. Adamire, 24, both of Centralia, were booked into the Lewis County Jail for trafficking in stolen property, according to McNamara. Frolich was also arrested for possession of about five grams of suspected methamphetamine, according to police.

• Hand-painted Christmas trees adorning a lawn at a Centralia residence were stolen, according to a report made to the Centralia Police Department about 3:30 p.m. yesterday. The yard ornaments from the 800 block of K Street are about four and a half feet tall, according to police.

• A computer was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday.

CAR PROWLS

• Somebody stole “items” from a vehicle and left them strewn down the street near the 2800 block of Fords Prairie Avenue in Centralia, according to a report to police yesterday morning.

• Centralia police took a report on Saturday morning from the 100 block of West Maple Street of a car prowl in which a call phone was missing.

CHEHALIS DOOR BROKEN

• Chehalis police were called to a house on Quincy Place where a door was discovered kicked in on Sunday evening.

SMALL CHILD FOUND ALONE DOWNTOWN CHEHALIS

• A toddler found wandering alone near the 100 block of North Market Boulevard in Chehalis about 2:30 p.m. on Friday was ultimately returned to his parents who live in the same area, according to Chehalis police. The father had fallen asleep and the boy went outside, according to police.

DRUGS

• Chehalis police were called to W.F. West High School on Friday morning where they arrested a 15-year-old girl for possession of marijuana. The student had a very small amount in her possession, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police arrested a 28-year-old Centralia resident for possession of methamphetamine about 4:45 a.m. today following a contact with an officer on the 300 block of North Gold Street. Guadalupe J. Aguirre was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FIRE DEPARTMENT BUYS TWO FIRE TRUCKS

• Lewis County Fire District 8 just took delivery of two new fire trucks, Assistant Chief Don Taylor said this morning. “Spanking new, just off the showroom floor,” Taylor said. The trucks arrived to the Salkum area fire department on Thursday, according to Taylor.

LIGHTED JESUS LIFTED FROM OUTDOOR NATIVITY SCENE

• It happens almost every year at this time: Baby Jesus was stolen from a nativity scene on the front lawn of a Centralia home. Police were called yesterday to the 900 block of F Street to take a report of the theft of the lighted plastic likeness of the holy infant. Police Sgt. Carl Buster said Mary and Joseph were left behind. Buster said the figure was about the size of a backpack. There is no suspect information, according to police. He called it a likely a random act of stupidity. “Usually they’re people who can’t keep their hands off other people’s stuff,” Buster said.

WINDOWS BROKEN AT DOWNTOWN BUSINESS

• Centralia police were called about 11 a.m. yesterday to the 600 block of West Main Street in Centralia where two windows were broken out of a business.
