PACK OF DOGS SUSPECTED IN MASS ALPACA ATTACK
• Six alpacas were killed yesterday at the 1400 block of South Schueber Road outside Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said a farmer heard noise and went outside early yesterday morning and saw something had attacked his animals. “He saw eyes, with a flashlight, he thought were dogs, we don’t know if it was dogs or coyotes or what,” Brown said. Six other alpacas were left alive, she said. Brown said she assumes it was more than one dog. A deputy took a report and notified the code enforcement people, she said. Unless they get reports of another incident or sighting of a pack of dogs, there isn’t much the sheriff’s office can do, according to Brown. “Sometimes, unfortunately, Mother Nature – the animals – takes it course,” she said.

The story about the alpacas is tragic. These are neighbors of ours and we drive by the alpacas daily. I think the real problem here is for some god forsaken reason 3 of our neighbors clear cut all their trees. I have a feeling this was coyotes.
