GANG VANDALISM

• Two men were caught yesterday morning breaking windows out of a vehicle parked on the 200 block of North Diamond Street, where a house had just been freshly spray painted with “LVL”, according to Centralia police. Five other homes on the same block had been “freshly tagged” with gang graffiti as well, according to police. Officers reportedly found Juan V. Vasquez, 25, and Adan Sanchez, 29, with paint on their clothing and bodies. The Centralia men were booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree malicious mischief, according to the Centralia Police Department.

STREET FIGHT

• A 27-year-old man was arrested about 5:15 p.m. on Saturday in Centralia for allegedly standing in the middle of the roadway and trying to start a fight with a 25-year-old man. Isaiah M.O. Davis, of Centralia, was arrested for disorderly conduct and then released after the incident on the 1300 block of West Main Street, according to Centralia police. The other man involved was arrested for being in possession of a dangerous weapon, and then released, according to police.

CAR PROWLS

• Centralia police were called just before 8 p.m. last night to a car prowl on the 300 block of North Gold Street. A window was broken out and the car stereo was missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 38-year-old man was arrested about 7:45 p.m. last night in Centralia for vehicle prowl and theft. Michael A. Kauer, of Centralia, was booked into the Lewis County Jail in connection with goings-on on the 500 block of North Tower Avenue, according to Centralia police.

DRUGS

• A 51-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine late Saturday afternoon in Centralia. Deanna M. Frye was booked into the Lewis County Jail following her contact with an officer on the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 45-year-old Centralia man was arrested about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday for warrants and possession of heroin, according to Centralia police. Victor A.L. Whalen was contacted by an officer regarding a theft investigation at the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia and then booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• A vehicle parked on Railroad Avenue near Maple Street in Centralia was found Saturday morning with its rear window broken out.

• Somebody broke a window out of a vehicle on the 500 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police Saturday morning.

BARN FIRE

• Firefighters were called about 11:20 a.m. yesterday to a burning barn in the Adna area. Lost in the blaze on Gold Creek Place were a car, a truck and some “taxidermy items”, according to Lewis County Fire District 6 Firefighter Brad Core. “It was a fully involved fire, just a big fire, hot, with lots of stuff inside,” Core said. There were a couple of explosions, he said, presumably from ammunition or small propane tanks inside. The two-story building was probably a total loss, he said. District 6 was joined by members of the Boistfort and Napavine area fire departments. A fire investigator is looking into the cause.

WOMAN WITH KNIFE

• A 25-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly pushed her way into a Centralia residence holding a large knife last night and threatened a resident. Officers called about 8 p.m. to the 400 block of Plum Street booked Laura L. Avery, of Roy, into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree burglary, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ASSAULT

• Centralia police are investigating an assault at the 1200 block of Alder Street from a call about 12:30 a.m. today. Further details were not readily available.

THEFT

• A green 1998 Volkswagen Jetta was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Lincoln Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police on Thursday night.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office was called Thursday to the flea market in Packwood about a burglary the night before of a vendor’s tent. Taken between about 11:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. were about 50 used DVD movies, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Centralia police took a report of a residential burglary on the 1400 block of Oxford Avenue in which a camera and money were taken sometime since Monday.

BAD BUS BEHAVIOR

• Centralia police were called about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday after a male in his early 20s reportedly sat on a Twin Transit bus next to a female and began “touching himself inappropriately.”

DRUGS

• A 31-year-old man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a warrant after contact with a police officer on North Pearl Street and Fremont Avenue in Centralia late yesterday afternoon. John C. Unterwegner, of Buckley, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 32-year-old Winlock man was arrested for possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop in Chehalis on Thursday night at Southwest 11th Street and McFadden Avenue. Christopher C. Tortorici was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Tortorici was driving with a suspended license and a search after he was arrested turned up some suspected prescription pain pills in his pants pockets, according to Deputy Chief Randy.

FLOCK BLOCKS ROAD

• Chehalis police were called about 5:30 a.m. yesterday to Southwest Newaukum Avenue near the Veterans Museum where some 30 to 40 sheep were in the roadway.

BOMB THREAT AT SCHOOL

• Police say in all likelihood it was a prank, especially when they found no explosives yesterday at Centralia Middle School. Officers were called about 11:20 a.m. to the building on the 900 block of Johnson Road after a message was found saying there was a bomb on the premises. It was written in pencil on a bathroom wall, according to Centralia police. Officers viewed video from a camera in the hallway outside the bathroom in an attempt to discover who might had left the note, according to police. Several individuals were interviewed and no suspect was identified, police reported.

BURGLARY ARREST

• A 22-year-old woman was arrested yesterday afternoon for allegedly unlawfully entering an apartment on the 700 block of South Gold Street and removing a laptop computer, clothing and a computer game console. Nallely Garcia Gutierrez, of Chehalis, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Police were called about 10 a.m. yesterday to the 1800 block of Van Wormer Street in Centralia about the theft of a wallet and camera from an unlocked vehicle.

KNIFE AT SCHOOL

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports a deputy was sent to Winlock High School yesterday to take a report about an 18-year-old who allegedly pulled a knife during a dispute while playing football there the day before. The case is being referred for a requested charge of fourth-degree assault and possessing a dangerous weapon on school grounds, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

ELUDING POLICE

• A 38-year-old driver was arrested for attempting to elude after he drove away from a Chehalis police officer who stopped him at Stan Hedwall Park on Rice Road. Police say Justus J. Kohlenberg, who had a warrant for his arrest, got onto Interstate 5 and exited at Mellen Street in Centralia, where police cars boxed him in. Kohlenberg continued talking on his cell phone instead exiting his vehicle and officers broke a window to get him out, according to Deputy Police Chief Randy Kaut. Kohlenberg, who is listed as a transient and previously from Longview, was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

THEFT

• Centralia police were called yesterday about the theft of a license plate from a vehicle overnight on the 100 block of Jefferson Street. The missing plate reads B08322B, according to the Centralia Police Department.

OAKVILLE WRECK INJURES TWO

• Two occupants of an sport utility vehicle were hospitalized overnight after the SUV veered off U.S. Highway 12 in Oakville traveled down a ravine and ran into a tree. Kevin A. Albert, 36, of Oakville, had cuts to his head and was taken along with his passenger Jay A. McCall, 24, of Centralia, to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol. McCall had neck pain, the state patrol reported. Trooper called about 2:15 a.m. to the scene near Elma Gate Road concluded Albert was driving under the influence. The 2000 Cadillac Escalade was described as totaled.

LIQUOR STING NETS BARTENDERS

• Law officers were bar hopping on Saturday night – along with an undercover, underage assistant who helped snag four bartenders that served alcohol to a minor, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies working with agents from the Washington State Liquor Control Board began at the Tall Timber on U.S. Highway 12 in Randle where the 18-year-old “investigative aid” was able to purchase alcohol, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. Bartender Staci K. Davis, 45, of Randle, was the first to be issued a criminal citation for furnishing liquor to a minor, Brown said this morning. They moved to the Paradise Restaurant and Lounge on Chehalis Avenue in Chehalis where Kimberly M. Brown, 28, of Chehalis, was cited, Chief Brown said. At the Rumors tavern on Northwest Pacific Avenue in Chehalis, they cited Kristin M. Homan, 36, of Chehalis and finally, a citation was issued to Elizabeth R. Boylan, 28, of Chehalis, a bartender at the Tower Tavern on Tower Avenue in Centralia, according to Brown.

CAN OF FOOD TOSSED AT MOTORIST

• Centralia police were called about 11 o’clock last night after somebody in a white van threw a can of dog food at an individual’s vehicle on West Main Street.

THEFT

• Chehalis police were called about 4:40 p.m. yesterday to Southwest Third Street where a red Honda Accord was believed to have been stolen within the previous hour.

• A five-gallon gas can was stolen from a shed on the 100 block of Orchard Drive in Salkum yesterday sometime between 8 a.m. and 8:45 p.m., according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Somebody had also tried to force their way through the front door a the residence, but didn’t get in, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

• Tools and a radiator were stolen from a garage on the 2000 block of Williams Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday afternoon.

• Chehalis police were called to a retirement home on Northwest Quincy Place yesterday to a complaint money had been stolen from somebody’s room. Further details were not readily available.

• Centralia police took a report about 9 p.m. last night of a car prowl on the  600 block of West Main Street. A purse was stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday about a car prowl near the 500 block of North Market Boulevard in which a wallet was taken. It apparently occurred on Friday night.

DRUGS

• A 25-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for possession of heroin and a warrant last night after contact with an officer on the 100 block of West High Street in Centralia. Jamie R. Anderson was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Centralia police.

WRECK

• A teenage driver was hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash near Haliday and Little Hanaford roads outside Centralia yesterday evening. Aid was called about 7:30 p.m. and found a Toyota Camry had left the road and taken out a light pole, according to Riverside Fire Authority. The young male patient was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital to be checked, primarily because of the seriousness of the wreck, fire Capt. Ken Colombo said.

LIVESTOCK SHOT OUTSIDE CENTRALIA

• A deputy was called yesterday morning to the 2300 block of Little Hanaford Road outside Centralia where a woman’s cow had been shot and killed. The owner said it happened sometime between 10 a.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. She told the deputy it was the second time one of her chocolate brown beef cows had been fatally shot in the pasture during previous two week, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. The woman said she spoke with neighbors and nobody had seen or heard anything, according to Brown.

BOY ATTACKED INSIDE DOG’S CRATE

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a 4-year-old child was attacked by a dog yesterday in Randle when the boy crawled into the animal’s crate while it was chewing on a bone. A deputy contacted the child’s mother at the emergency room at Morton General Hospital last night and learned it had occurred on the 400 block of Cispus Road, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. Brown said the owner of the Labrador dog is a friend of the victim’s family and no citation will be issued. Information about how seriously the boy was injured was not reported by the sheriff’s office nor readily available.

ROOSTERS BLOCK ENTRANCE TO WOMAN’S HOUSE

• Police were called to Cascade Avenue just south of Main Street in Chehalis about 10:30 p.m. on Friday about two roosters on the front steps of a residence which were preventing a woman from getting inside her house. No arrests were made and few details were available. Deputy Police Chief Randy Kaut said animals such as chickens are not prohibited from living within the city limits, but they are expected to be kept contained, the way that dogs are.

SHEEP AT LARGE IN CHEHALIS

• Chehalis police were called about 6 o’clock this morning about a flock of sheep blocking the roadway near Southwest Elzina Street and Newaukum Avenue.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report yesterday morning of a rifle stolen from a gun safe at the 300 block of West Chestnut Street. Officers are investigating, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A deputy was called to the 100 block of Del Ray Road near Mossyrock on Friday about the theft of a Beretta 9 mm handgun. Its owner said it went missing about a month ago, around the same time he had hired a person to do some work for him around his property, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A 40-inch flat screen television was stolen from a residence on the 200 block of North Fork Road outside Chehalis sometime between Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

CRASH AND ALMOST CRASH

• A Chehalis man was arrested early Sunday after he reportedly was driving under the influence and nearly ran into a deputy’s patrol car on Jackson Highway, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said Efren Morales Sanchez, 28, was traveling southbound and drove into the deputy’s lane at about 3:40 a.m. yesterday. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI, Brown said. Just three nights earlier a speeding driver narrowly missed colliding head-on with a deputy when he was passing another vehicle on Jackson Highway south of Chehalis.

• A 63-year-old Winlock woman was arrested for driving under the influence after a single-vehicle non-injury collision early Saturday morning on the 600 block of North Military Road near Winlock, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Claudette L. Sooter was cited and then released, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. Information about what her vehicle struck was not available.

OFFICER CALLED ABOUT FLYERS ON CARS

• Chehalis police were called Saturday afternoon to the parking lot outside the movie theaters at the Lewis County Mall on Northeast Hampe Way where some males were placing White Supremacist flyers on people’s vehicles. Deputy Police Chief Randy Kaut said it is a violation to put handbills on people’s cars but not to hand out the information. The individuals stayed and passed them out to people, Kaut said.

PIANO MISSING BRIEFLY IN CHEHALIS

• A man called Chehalis police about 4 p.m on Saturday to say his piano fell out of his truck somewhere in Chehalis. He wasn’t sure where and thought it might have occurred when he crossed over the railroad tracks, according to police. Deputy Police Chief Randy Kaut said he didn’t have many details but it appeared it was retrieved by a citizen and returned to its owner.

POLICE SEIZE MARIJUANA GARDEN IN CENTRALIA

• A 24-year-old Centralia man was arrested yesterday after police found more than 90 marijuana plants growing at his home. Officers served a search warrant at the residence on the 1500 block of Delaware Avenue in Centralia and also discovered several “bindles” of suspected methamphetamine, according to the Centralia Police Department. Donald J. Greene was booked into the Lewis County Jail for manufacturing marijuana and possession of methamphetamine, police reported this morning.

MUGGER’S VICTIM FIGHTS BACK

• A woman confronted by a knife-wielding stranger on a Centralia street who tried to take her purse yesterday pulled out her own knife thwarting the attempted robbery. According to the Centralia Police Department, the woman was walking along the 500 block of Harrison Avenue about 4 p.m. when the unidentified male demanded her purse. Upon seeing her weapon, the male stepped back and she ran to safety, according to police. Further details were not readily available.

SOLES SAVED FROM SNEAKERS SET AFIRE NEAR CEMETERY

• Firefighters said yesterday they bagged a pair of shoes found burning in an alley next to a Centralia cemetery to check for traces of gasoline or similar substances. A neighbor near Washington Avenue saw the tennis shoes on fire and called 911 late Thursday afternoon, according to Riverside Fire Authority Capt. Ken Colombo. The man doused the flames with a bottle of water, Colombo said. They appeared to be about a size 9, but all that was left were the soles, Colombo said.
