CHEHALIS – The suspect in the Tuesday afternoon shooting outside an apartment complex in Centralia has been picked up on a $1 million arrest warrant.

David Serrano Mosso, 20, was located about 9:30 p.m. at a motel in the Tumwater area, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Dusty Breen stated last night that Serrano Mosso would be booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree assault, first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and drive by shooting.

Authorities say the Centralia resident was a passenger in a white sport utility vehicle that pulled up to a 19-year-old man  at the 3100 block of Ives Road and fired one round from a handgun, grazing the victim’s leg.

Law enforcement officers from numerous agencies were involved in last night’s arrest, including Lewis County’s Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Team, Homeland Security Investigations and the Tumwater Police Department, according to Breen.

Breen didn’t have all the details, but said he understood an individual who had transported Serrano Mosso and got him a motel room was also arrested

About two hours before Serrano Mosso was arrested, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release stating that anyone helping Serrano Mosso could be charged with the felony of rendering criminal assistance.

Serrano Mosso is expected to be brought before a judge in Lewis County Superior Court at 4 p.m. today.

CHEHALIS – Southbound Interstate 5 at Chehalis is shut down while crews work to clean up debris and the wreckage of a semi truck this morning.

Trooper Will Finn states the driver is being airlifted.

Responders called to the scene at 6:30 a.m. beneath the West Street overpass found the semi truck laying on its side across the southbound lanes.

It appeared the northbound truck struck the guard rail and then came back onto the roadway and slammed through the center barrier, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

There is lots of oil and diesel on the road, Firefighter Jay Birley said.

Finn said flying debris damaged two other vehicles, one of which sustained a shattered windshield.

There is no estimated time for reopening the highway, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Forty feet of center median jersey barrier needs to be replaced, according to WSDOT.

The scene is just north of the Main Street interchange.

Southbound traffic is being detoured onto Chamber of Commerce Way to Louisiana Avenue to state Route 6 returning to I-5, according to WSDOT. Drivers should expect long delays.

WSDOT advises motorists to use an alternate route or delay travel.

CHEHALIS – A fire investigator is looking into the cause of a blaze that destroyed a large garage and its contents last night in rural Chehalis.

The resident who was home at the 100 block of Sanford Court north of Adna discovered the fire and called 911 about 8:20 p.m., according to Riverside Fire Authority.

An arriving crew found the detached structure fully involved in flames and threatening to spread to the adjacent home, outbuildings and trees, Chief Mike Kytta reports.

They were joined by personnel from Lewis County Fire Districts 6 and 13, and managed to contain it to the building of origin, according to Kytta.

The contents, which included numerous motorcycles and a car, as well as the approximately 30-foot by 36-foot metal-roofed garage are a total loss, according to authorities.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by an investigator from the Chehalis Fire Department.

CHEHALIS – Sheriff’s deputies were on the scene this afternoon of a shooting at the 3100 block of Ives Road in Centralia.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, via Twitter, indicated just before 4 p.m. they were trying to locate the suspect.

Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said preliminary information is the male victim was outside an apartment complex’s office, off Harrison Avenue, when a vehicle pulled up.

“The individual yells out to him, he turns to see what’s going on and a shot or shots are fired,” Breen said.

The male was struck in the leg, the injury is non-life threatening, Breen said.

Breen said the 19-year-old Centralia man at first didn’t realize he was hit.

“It just kind of grazed him and he drove himself to the hospital,” Breen said.

The victim apparently has known the suspect about a month, having done some automotive work for him, Breen said.

Breen confirmed about 6 p.m. it was just one shot, fired from a handgun.

Deputies are chasing down some leads, looking for a person whose identity they know, he said. A white sport utility vehicle is believed to be involved, he said.

CHEHALIS – The Washington State Patrol suspects a man whose body was found about 75 feet off of U.S. Highway 12 in Grand Mound yesterday morning had been walking on the shoulder and was hit by a vehicle.

A trooper was dispatched just before 9:15 a.m. after a phone call from a motorist who thought they saw a body, according to the state patrol.

“We got aid to the scene and he was pronounced dead,” Trooper Todd Bartolac said. “He was cold to the touch.”

Bartolac said they don’t know when the man was struck or when he died.

It happened just east of Pecan Street.

The initial investigation suggests the victim had been walking along the eastbound shoulder and was hit by an unknown eastbound vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Detectives don’t yet know exactly what happened, Bartolac said. He expects the coroner will be conducting an autopsy.

The man is identified as Kenneth J. Rose, a 36-year-old resident of Tenino.

Evidence at the scene indicates the suspect vehicle is a newer, silver GMC or Chevrolet pickup or sport utility vehicle, the state patrol indicates. It would have significant damage to its front and passenger side, including to its side mirror, windshield and bumper, according to the state patrol.

CHEHALIS – Centralia police caught one suspect after a Centralia woman called 911 from her locked bedroom to say people had broken into her home yesterday.

She heard someone banging on the door and wasn’t expecting anyone, so she locked herself in her room, according to the Centralia Police Department.

The knocking stopped and someone kicked in the door, Sgt. Dave Clary said. While she was on the phone with 911, the intruders broke through the interior door where she was, Clary said.

“The burglars were surprised, she yelled or screamed or something,” he said. “They went out the door.”

Officers responded to the approximately 4:20 p.m. call to the 900 block of West Pear Street.

Clary said the two were carrying shoes, like athletic shoes, when he arrived to the scene and they took off running. He said he chased them for about two blocks and then the suspects separated.

One was found hiding and was taken into custody, he said.

A police dog track for the second person was lengthy, but unsuccessful, according to Clary.

Isaiah M. Kelly, 20, of Federal Way, was arrested for residential burglary and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

CHEHALIS – An 86-year-old Yakima driver died at the scene of a single-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 12 just west of Packwood early this morning.

Troopers called about 12:35 a.m. determined the Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle had been westbound and crossed the centerline, leaving the roadway and entering a ditch before striking a tree.

Kenneth L. Whitmire, from Yakima, had been wearing a seatbelt but was deceased, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Durango was totaled. It was impounded and the wreck is under investigation, according to the state patrol.
