BURGLARY AND THEFT

• A deputy took a report overnight of a safe missing from a residence on the 100 block of U.S. Highway 12 south of Chehalis. The 56-year-old victim said there were $5,000 worth of silver coins inside it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. There were no signs of forced entry, but he has a roommate who comes and goes and could have left the door unlocked, Cmdr. Dusty Breen said.

• A deputy responded about 10:30 a.m. yesterday for a burglary to a garage at the 100 block of Alder Street in Pe Ell. Sometime since Saturday, someone stole a Stihl chainsaw, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A deputy was called about 3:30 a.m. yesterday to the 400 block of Coal Creek Road in Chehalis following the discovery someone had broken into a church’s maintenance shed and stole a blower, weed trimmer, chainsaw and pressure washer, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

AUTO THEFT

• A 36-year-old Kelso resident was arrested early yesterday morning for theft of a motor vehicle after an Audi Quattro stolen from the AM/PM on the 100 block of Interstate Avenue in Chehalis. Travis L. Gray and the car were located in the area by a police dog and he was taken in for treatment of a dog bite, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Because he stayed at the hospital for some other medical issues, he was not booked into jail, according to police.

• A deputy was called about 6:40 p.m. yesterday regarding a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer stolen during the day from where it was parked, and locked, at an apartment complex on the 3100 block of Ives Road in Centralia.

CAR PROWL

• Chehalis police were called yesterday evening and told someone broke into a vehicle while at was parked in a lot on Northwest Louisiana Avenue two to three weeks earlier and stole prescription medications.

• Centralia police were called about 1:20 p.m. yesterday regarding a vehicle prowl at the 1400 block of Alexander Street. Sometime during the previous several days, a credit card was taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called just before 10 a.m. yesterday to the parking lot at the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place where an individual reported their vehicle was rummaged through that morning, with an estimated $2,400 of property stolen. Among the missing items were two pairs of sunglasses, prescription glasses, the registration and a bag containing various brands of high-end men’s jeans, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called just before 8 a.m. yesterday to the parking lot at the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place where a victim told them someone had broken out a vehicle’s passenger side window and stolen a white London Fog briefcase and a GPS device. It happened sometime since 3 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Cash was stolen from a vehicle parked at the 700 block of Sky Meadows Drive in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 7:45 a.m. yesterday.

VANDALISM

• Chehalis police were called yesterday afternoon about someone damaging the lock of a post office box at the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue in Chehalis.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 30-year-old Centralia man was severely injured when his Toyota pickup truck struck a light pole at the 1600 block of Bishop Road in Chehalis last night. A deputy responding about 8:23 p.m. to the scene determined speed was a factor and also noticed the strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Zachary W. Gallagher suffered head trauma and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the sheriff’s office. The case is being referred to prosecutors for a charge of driving under the influence, Cmdr. Dusty Breen said.

• A too-tall load traveling on Interstate 5 scraped the underside of the northbound side of the Chamber Way overpass yesterday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation. It was minor and there was no structural damage, DOT tweeted. It was a little more than two weeks ago when a too-tall load struck the bridge on the southbound side, causing so much damage that workers had to tear down half the overpass. Last Thursday, a temporary span was installed to be used by motorists until replacement components can be designed and put into place.

HIKERS LOST AND FOUND

• A pair of hikers who got lost about 15 miles south of Morton were located yesterday morning, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies got a report about 6:25 p.m. on Sunday and were able to talk with the men who had cell service, according to the sheriff’s office. The 911 center provided information on their latitude and longitude which showed they were near the Goat Trail trailhead near Landers Creek in an area belonging to Port Blakely and the U.S. Forest Service, Cmdr. Dusty Breen said. Responders found their vehicle, but because of darkness, told the men to stay put and that they would return in the morning, Breen said. When they were found and brought out, the 35-year-old and 36-year-old from Portland were fine, according to Breen.

• A 1999 Honda Civic reported stolen just after 6 a.m. today from the 800 block of K Street in Centralia was found a short time later in Chehalis, at the 300 block of Southwest 10th Street, according to police. The investigation continues, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called just after 5:30 a.m. today about a red Audi Quattro stolen from 100 block of Interstate Avenue. A suspect was contacted by a police dog a short time later, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Further details are not yet available, a department spokesperson said.

• Chehalis police were called about 4:50 a.m. today for a red Toyota Corolla just stolen from a gas station on the 100 block of Interstate Avenue.

• Centralia police were called about 4:45 a.m. today regarding a red 1999 Chevrolet Blazer stolen from the 800 block of Hamilton Avenue. It has a license plate reading AJN 9529, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were contacted yesterday by an individual whose green 2001 Volkswagen Jetta was stolen from the parking lot at K-Mart on the 1200 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The victim thought they lost their car keys, went home to get a spare set and when they returned, the car was gone, at about 3 p.m., according to the Chehalis Police Department.

•  A white 1992 Acura Integra reported stolen about 2:45 p.m. yesterday from the 100 block of West High Street in Centralia has been recovered, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A blue 1992 Honda Accord was reported stolen from the 700 block of Euclid Way in Centralia about 10:25 a.m. yesterday. It has a license plate reading ABR 4412, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called to the 1000 block of Eckerson Road about 9 a.m. on Saturday to take a report of a gold 1997 Honda Accord being stolen. It has a license plate read  RAJ 0758, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Nakisha J. Richardson was booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday for theft of a motor vehicle for allegedly taking her teenage relative’s vehicle without permission from the 1400 block of Ferrier Road in Winlock. It was discovered about 10:50 a.m. on Saturday and she was arrested after she returned with the vehicle about 10:35 a.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

BURGLARY ARREST

• A 39-year-old man was arrested for second-degree burglary after contact with police on Saturday in a case associated with the 1100 block of North Pearl Street in Centralia. Adam S. Gonzalez, of Parkland, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. Prosecutors today declined to file the felony charge.

FRAUD

• A business on the 500 block of North Market Boulevard in Chehalis contacted police on Friday about checks it issued which were forged for just over $2,600. They spoke to an individual who might know something about it who reported their wallet was stolen, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police were called at noon yesterday to the 900 block of East Locust Street in Centralia where a purse was stolen out of a vehicle.

• Centralia police were called about 6:45 a.m. yesterday regarding clothing stolen from a travel trailer parked at the 100 block of North Saxon Street.

• Chehalis police were called Friday about a vehicle prowl at the 400 block of Southwest Parkland Drive. The victim found the door ajar and discovered a wallet was missing from her purse, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Two teenagers were injured when the motorcycle they were traveling on struck a deer on state Route 7 near Mineral on Saturday night. Troopers called to milepost 15 just after 10 p.m. report Seth A. Clark, 18, and his 16-year-old passenger were transported to Morton General Hospital. The Ashford residents had been wearing helmets, however Clark didn’t have a motorcycle endorsement and his license was suspended, according to the Washington State Patrol. His 2009 Kawasaki KLX250 was towed, according to the state patrol.

• A deputy responding about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday to a vehicle that wrecked in a ditch on the 600 block of Green Mountain Road in Mossyrock arrested the driver for driving under the influence. David J. Flanigan, 57, of Mossyrock, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A 47-year-old woman from Astoria, Oregon was injured when she lost control of her Harley Davidson and skidded sideways into a guard rail at the 500 block of Wildwood Road on Saturday. She was traveling with other motorcyclists when they came to an intersection with a logging road, and her back tire began to skip, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responding about 12:15 p.m. noted she had several possible broken bones including arm, ribs, legs and ankle, according to the sheriff’s office. She also had back pain, Cmdr. Dusty Breen said.

• Centralia police were called about 8 a.m. yesterday regarding the theft of property from a home on the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue. A family member is suspected, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called about 11:30 a.m. yesterday to the 200 block of Tacoma Avenue to take a report of an identity theft. The case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

PEDESTRIAN RESCUED FROM MUD HOLE

• Firefighters rescued a man last night who was found stuck in mud in a deep ditch between K-Mart and the Twin City Town Center in Chehalis. They were called around 8 p.m. after the man had yelled for help to people walking near K-Mart, according to the Chehalis Fire Department. The passersby had tried to get him out and couldn’t, Firefighter Kevin Reynolds said. “He didn’t have any injuries but was definitely cold, intoxicated and had been there awhile,” Reynolds said. Firefighters put a strap around him and pulled him out. Medics took him to the hospital, because of possible hypothermia, he said.

• A 56-year-old motorist was booked into the Lewis County Jail after driving his vehicle into a utility pole at Gold and Summa streets yesterday evening, striking it so hard the pole was severed, according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers responding about 6:40 p.m. detoured traffic until a replacement could be installed and arrested Leandro T. Mascarenas, of Centralia, for driving under the influence, according to police.

• Instead of simply pulling over for a traffic infraction, a 39-year-old Rochester man allegedly ran from his vehicle in northeast Centralia yesterday evening and was subsequently located hiding inside a semi-truck trailer, by a police dog. It happened at the 1700 block of Midway Court and K-9 Axel began tracking the suspect at 6:30 p.m., according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Matthew J. Madoche was apprehended 10 minutes later, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. Madoche had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was driving with a suspended license, according to Brown. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail with an added offense of eluding, according to the sheriff’s office.

BAD CHECK

• Centralia police are investigation complaint where a male suspect attempted to cash a fraudulent check at the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue yesterday.  This case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

PORCH THEFT

• An officer was called just after 5 p.m. to take a report from a home on Northwest Maryland Avenue of a Honda generator stolen off its back porch. It was taken sometime after 7:30 a.m., according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called to the parking lot above Safeway on South Market Boulevard following the discovery someone had broken a vehicle’s window and stolen a purse from its floorboards. It happened sometime between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., according to the Chehalis Police Department.

WAL-MART MELEE

• Police were called to the parking lot at Wal-Mart about 9:50 p.m. yesterday for a dispute involving several people, that apparently began when one teenager challenged another teen to a fight. Friends, parents and a bat were involved, but nobody was hurt, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Police are still working on the case but expect to refer charges to juvenile prosecutors, Sgt. Gwen Carrell said this morning.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning that someone broke into a residence on the 300 block of Minkler Road in Winlock sometime between Monday and yesterday and left with a LeapFrog tablet, games and another tablet. A door and its frame was left damaged, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called to the 2100 block of North Pearl Street about 4:30 p.m. yesterday where an individual reported that sometime over the last several days someone stole items from the residence. The victim is still making a list and the case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

AUTO THEFT

• A stolen Honda car turned up yesterday morning parked at the 700 block of South Market Boulevard minus its stereo, a purse and a coat, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DRUGS

• Jared R. Dulores, 43, of Chehalis was arrested for an outstanding warrant and possession of methamphetamine after contact with police about 6:15 a.m. today at the 1200 block of Mellen Street in Centralia. Dulores was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

• Chehalis police were called about 2:30 p.m. yesterday regarding a pair of suspicious males in a grayish silver truck in the area of Folsom Street and Northwest Ohio Avenue, where three children were playing in a front yard. They were wearing reflective vests and had been seen in the area off and on, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 61-year-old driver had an injured vertebrae and a cut to his back of his head after his 2001 Ford Ranger rolled onto its top yesterday morning at the 1600 block of Lincoln Creek Road outside Centralia. A deputy called just before 10 a.m. found Richard O. Tharpe, of Centralia, had driven onto the gravel and overcorrected, causing the wreck, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. His vehicle was totaled. Tharpe was arrested for driving under the influence and third-degree driving with suspended license, according to the sheriff’s office. He was also cited for not having vehicle insurance and failing to notify the Department of Licensing of his change in address, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

• Chehalis police were asked to assist a trooper about 12:30 a.m. today for a vehicle failing to pull over along Interstate 5. Once the vehicle was stopped, Chehalis was asked to secure the vehicle and the children left inside as the driver left on foot, according to the Chehalis Police Department. CRITICAL CRASH IN CENTRALIA

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning a 58-year-old Centralia man remains in critical condition following a motorcycle crash at the 100 block of Joppish Road outside Centralia yesterday morning. A deputy arriving just before 7:30 a.m. yesterday found the 2008 Harley Davidson was totaled and its operator had suffered internal injuries after colliding with a road sign, according to the sheriff’s office. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Cmdr. Dusty Breen said. He had been wearing a helmet. Breen said it appeared speed was involved as the motorcycle rider had been northbound and failed to negotiate a curve.

FOOD FIGHT

• A 42-year-old man angry because someone stole his Lunchable allegedly used a large piece of lumber to strike a tent that was occupied last night in a wooded area off the 1700 block of Airport Road outside Centralia. A deputy responding about 10:15 p.m. learned the victim, a 54-year-old Centralia woman, sustained a large lump on her left cheekbone, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Douglas M. Martin, also from Centralia, was arrested for third-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

AUTO THEFT

• Police called about 1:20 p.m. yesterday when a 2006 Saturn was discovered missing from the parking lot at Wal-Mart in Chehalis. The keys had been left inside the unlocked car, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Not long afterward, an officer driving through the parking lot at Twin City Town Center, also on Northwest Louisiana  Avenue, spotted the unoccupied car, which still had a purse in it, although a cell phone and medications were missing, according to police.

• Centralia police were called just before 12:30 p.m. yesterday when a block 1995 Honda Accord was discovered missing from the 100 block of West High Street.

• Chehalis police were called just before 8:30 a.m. yesterday when a 1997 Honda Accord was discovered missing from the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street. The car was located about 3 p.m. at the Chehalis reservation and the owner notified to come and retrieve it, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called about 4:15 p.m. yesterday to a residence on the 1000 block of Centralia Avenue where they were told that checks and household items had been stolen during the previous several weeks.

TOOLS TAKEN CHEHALIS

• A deputy responded yesterday to a report that a family member was suspected of taking a floor jack and some tools from the 100 block of Kennicott Road outside Chehalis. Bradley J. Economou, 26, of Chehalis, who wasn’t supposed to be at the residence, was contacted and subsequently arrested for residential burglary and then booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. He was released today when prosecutors declined to file the felony charge.

YARD THEFT CENTRALIA

• An officer was called to the 1400 block of Crescent Avenue in Centralia yesterday to take a report that sometime during the night someone stole a lighthouse cross ornament from their yard.

OTHER THEFT

• An officer was called just before 10 a.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue to take a report that groceries had been stolen and alcohol was stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• An 18-year-old Centralia resident was arrested yesterday in connection with a $775 cell phone stolen while its owner’s son had it while swimming at the Adna trestle the day before. Mikel J. Herren was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree theft and possession of stolen property, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

FRAUD

• An individual contacted Centralia police yesterday from the 1000 block of Swanson Drive to report that someone in California had opened a credit card account using their name.

• An officer was called yesterday to Providence Centralia Hospital to take a report that someone had used a false identity when they received care. A victim was billed for services, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case is under investigation, according to police.

• A jewelry box was stolen from a vehicle parked at the 700 block of Ham Hill Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 3:45 p.m. yesterday.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• A 20-year-old Chehalis resident was charged today for allegedly beating a person she suspected was a confidential police informant, punching the person in the face at least 10 times while her companion tore up and cut up the person’s clothing with a small knife. Charging documents say only it occurred in Lewis County sometime after Jan.1 of this year. Stevi L. Taylor was booked into the Lewis County Jail on Sunday night for what appears from the facility’s online roster to be a warrant for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor theft case. Taylor has no felony convictions in her past but is now charged with intimidating a witness, an offense with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Charging documents state the incident occurred when drug detectives set up a controlled buy operation for an informant to purchase heroin from Taylor and her companion, and someone present saw a message on the person’s phone from a local drug detective. Her bail was set at $10,000. Her arraignment is tomorrow in Lewis County Superior Court.

• Chehalis police were contacted yesterday by an individual who reported they discovered purchases were made on their credit card in Arizona totaling $532, and suspected their account was compromised when recently in Las Vegas, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A deputy was called yesterday evening after an individual swimming near the Adna trestle saw three males steal the iPhone belonging to his mother, and saw them take off in a dark blue Honda-type car, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The loss is $775, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Police were called about 7:10 p.m. yesterday regarding a vehicle prowl on the 400 block of East Chestnut Street in Centralia. Five dollars in change was stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A phone charger and two CD’s were stolen in a vehicle prowl at the 600 block of South Diamond Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police just after 4 p.m. yesterday.
