• Two people were arrested yesterday for allegedly trying to pass a “bad check” at a bank at the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue in Chehalis and then allegedly having suspected heroin inside their car. An officer responding to the approximately 3:15 p.m. call contacted Richard D. Hill, 42, and Holly N. Petrich, 26, both from Oakville, and then booked them into the Lewis County Jail for forgery and possession of a controlled substance, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A 38-year-old homeless person arrested about 1 p.m. yesterday at the 300 block of Lowe Street in Centralia for an outstanding warrant was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine. Nathan J. J. Hayes was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

GUN CRIME

• A 30-year-old Chehalis resident was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm after allegedly trying to sell another person a Derringer-style handgun yesterday. An officer responding to the 300 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue following the 9:40 a.m. call contacted Amadi A. Shaw, discovered an outstanding warrant and booked Shaw into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VANDALISM

• An individual called police from the 700 block of South Gold Street in Centralia about 5:05 p.m. yesterday to report her cable television wires had been intentionally cut.

SCHOOL ISSUES

• Centralia police were called at 4:05 p.m. yesterday regarding an alleged assault by a 12-year-old boy on an 11-year-old boy, in a case associated with the Washington Elementary School a the 800 block of Field Avenue. An officer had been called at 11:05 a.m. there to a report a 12-year-old struck two staff members, according to the Centralia Police Department. The child was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Chehalis police were called at 4:45 p.m. yesterday after a vehicle struck a building at the 1200 block of South Market Boulevard. Two males fled, a female stayed behind and said she did not know who was driving, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Danielle S. Sprayberry, 28, of Chehalis, however was arrested for making a false statement, and then released, according to police.

• A 30-year-old driver reportedly fell asleep before his semi truck drifted to the right shoulder, hit a guard rail and rolled onto its side early this morning on Interstate 5 in Chehalis. The approximately 4 a.m. crash along the northbound lanes near exit 76 left the driver uninjured, but responders had to cut the windshield of the 2015 Peterbilt to extricate him. Jaswant Singh, from Yuba City, California, was fatigued and for that, he was issued a citation for second-degree negligent driving, according to the Washington State Patrol. The semi had no hazardous materials on board, only broccoli, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

WSP: TROOPER ON FOOT CAPTURES SPEEDING MOTORCYCLIST

• A 19-year-old motorcyclist told a trooper he was just out for a ride after being tracked at speeds in excess of 100 mph on northbound Interstate 5 by 911 callers near Kelso, near Chehalis and the trooper who waited near milepost 83 yesterday morning. The trooper reportedly accelerated to speeds of up to 150 mph and could see the motorcyclist ahead weaving in and out of traffic, using all available lanes and splitting lanes between vehicles, according to the report as conveyed to Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Joel DeFazio. The trooper was able to get within a quarter mile of the motorcycle when it began to pull away from him, DeFazio wrote. Both exited at the Maytown Road interchange at milepost 95 but the trooper lost sight of the object of his chase, according to DeFazio. After the trooper terminated the pursuit and pulled off to the side of the road, another vehicle approached and advised a motorcycle and rider were behind the concrete support of the Maytown overpass bridge, according to DeFazio. When the trooper approached from the west on foot, he could see the rider looking eastward, DeFazio wrote. German V. Chumak was taken into custody. Chumak was asked why he was hiding and said he wasn’t, he’d just run out of gas, according to DeFazio. The first calls came in at 9:46 a.m. and the Tualatin, Oregon resident was arrested about 10:45 a.m. When he was charged today in Lewis County Superior Court with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, DeFazio noted he had no criminal history, suggested the information in the probable cause statement indicated he would be a risk to other drivers and asked he be held on $5,000 bail. Judge James Lawler set bail at $20,000. Temporary defense attorney Rachael Tiller told the judge Chumak resides with his parents and is set to enter Portland Community College this fall. His arraignment is Thursday.

BREAK-IN MOSSYROCK

• A deputy called to the 500 block of Young Road in Mossyrock at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday found an open window, a broken kitchen window and a residence that had been ransacked, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office is awaiting a list of missing items from the 65-year-old burglary victim, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

• A 36-year-old Centralia man was arrested following an approximately 4:10 a.m. call yesterday to the 1500 block of Lewis Street for a domestic incident that allegedly included second-degree robbery. Corey R. Pittman was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 32-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for third-degree assault in connection with an approximately 11:45 p.m. Saturday incident at the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue in Centralia. Laticia A. Cox was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

MAIL THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 7 p.m. on Saturday to take a report of the theft of a check from a mailbox at the 1400 block of West Main Street.

• Centralia police were called to the 900 block of South Scheuber Road about 10:15 p.m. on Friday to take a report of the theft of medication.

FUEL THEFT

• An officer was called to a parking lot at the 400 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue in Chehalis about 12:35 p.m. on Friday where someone had siphoned gas from at least one vehicle.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police were called for a vehicle prowl at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the 900 block of E Street. Taken was a backpack, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A search incident to an arrest following a shoplifting call about 7:10 p.m. on Friday to the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue turned up drug paraphernalia that tested positive for heroin, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Justin L. Emery, 28, of Centralia, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 23-year-old Castle Rock man ended up with scrapes on his nose and forehead, a wrecked car and a trip to jail last night after reportedly deciding at the last second to turn onto Tucker Road off Jackson Highway at as much as 50 mph, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. His passenger was unhurt but his 2015 Audi S3 sedan sustained substantial damage, according to the sheriff’s office. A deputy arriving to the scene about 5:45 p.m. conducted filed sobriety tests and subsequently arrested Garrett L. Lindeman for driving under the influence and booked him into the Lewis County Jail, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

• Centralia police were called about 2 p.m. on Saturday for an automobile versus bicyclist collision at the 600 block of Harrison Avenue. The individual on the bike suffered minor injuries, and rode away from the scene, according to the Centralia Police Department.

GUNS, CAR AND TRUCK STOLEN IN VADER

• Deputies called around 11 p.m. yesterday about a possible burglary at the 1000 block of state Route 506 in Vader found unsecured doors and the interior ransacked, with 13 firearms and two vehicles stolen, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Missing was a 2008 Cadillac and a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, according to the sheriff’s office. The Cadillac was later found abandoned by the Longview Police Department, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. The break-in occurred sometime since Saturday, Breen said.

SHED BREAK-INS CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called just before 7 o’clock this morning to the 1100 block of Elm Street where an individual reported that sometime during the night unknown person or persons broke into three separate sheds on the property. Nothing appears to be missing at this time, according to the Centralia Police Department.

GARAGE BREAK-IN CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called just before 12:30 p.m. yesterday about a burglary to a garage at the 1900 block of North Pearl Street. Numerous hand and power tools were reported missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BREAK-IN CHEHALIS

• Chehalis police were called just before noon yesterday to the 1600 block of Gails Avenue for a report of a burglary. Further details were not readily available.

STOLEN MERCEDES FOUND IN GLENOMA

• Law enforcement looking in Glenoma for a 29-year-old resident yesterday think they briefly caught up with him, driving a stolen 2005 Mercedes Benz. Deputies and a fugitive task force were in the area of the 300 block of Anderson Road around 3 p.m. searching for Ryan A. Justice, wanted for a Department of Corrections felony warrant for escape from community custody, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. They saw the gold car pass them, turned around and followed to where it stopped behind a residence on the 400 block of Anderson Road, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. The car was there, but not Justice, however witnesses said he had been driving it, Breen said. A case for possession of a stolen vehicle will be referred to prosecutors, according to the sheriff’s office. The auto, valued at as much as $30,000, was returned to it owner in Lakewood, Breen said.

• A 32-year-old Centralia man arrested early yesterday morning for the alleged theft of a truck in Chehalis was subsequently arrested for second-degree possession of stolen property in connection with a checkbook that went missing from a relative’s home on Seminary Hill Road in Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. • A 28-year-old Chehalis woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after drug paraphernalia on her person allegedly field tested positive for meth, following her detention for allegedly shoplifting hair dye at a store on the 500 block of South Market Boulevard in Chehalis yesterday afternoon. Police called just before 3 p.m. booked Amanda M. Hickey into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The case will include a referral for charges of third-degree theft and also making or possessing motor vehicle theft tool related to keys she had, according to police.

• An officer was called to W.F. West High School in Chehalis just before 2 p.m. yesterday because a 14-year-old girl was allegedly in possession of a smoking device and green vegetable material. The substance will be tested, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A 40-year-old motorist stopped for speeding on southbound Interstate 5 in Chehalis just after 1 o’clock yesterday morning was subsequently arrested for possession of heroin. A trooper indicated in court documents he observed on the floorboard by the driver’s feet two clear plastic baggies, each with a small circle of dark brown substance, which the driver said was kids’ candy. Jose F. Lopez Jr., of Chehalis, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, charged today with possession of a controlled substance and ordered held on $5,000 bail. JNET: PACKAGES OF CRYSTAL METH HIDDEN IN COFFEE CONTAINER

• A traffic stop yesterday off Interstate 5 at the 13th Street exit in Chehalis yielded 28 and half ounces of methamphetamine inside a coffee container in a vehicle, pulled off the freeway allegedly for speeding, failing to signal lane changes and displaying no license plate or visible trip permit. Members of the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team observed the violations of the northbound vehicle and asked the driver to move to the AM/PM and Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Rick VanWyck arrived with his drug sniffing K-9 and detected controlled substances while a detective was speaking with the driver, according to charging documents. Hancel Zagal Alcaraz, 28, from Pasco, was arrested with $2,467 cash on his person and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to authorities. He was charged today in Lewis County Superior Court with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. The suspect who owns an auto repair business in Pasco and has no felony criminal history in the state was ordered held on $25,000 bail when he went before a judge this afternoon.

VEHICLE THEFT

• Police were called just after 4:15 a.m. today when someone drove off from the 200 block of West Main Street in Chehalis with a service truck that belonged to someone else. Centralia police caught up with the vehicle at the 1200 block of Alder Street in Centralia, according to police. The driver Jared W. Thorson, 32, of Centralia, was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The truck was returned to its owner.

MASS BATTERY HEIST

• Chehalis police were called to the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5 p.m. yesterday where they were told two individuals had stolen 25 Max car batteries. The loss is $2,887.51, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DEPUTY RETRIEVES STOLEN CHAINSAW

• An 18-year-old Onalaska resident was arrested yesterday for allegedly trying to sell a stolen chainsaw to a sheriff’s detective after its owner discovered it for sale on the app OfferUp. Cody B.E. Rider was asked to meet at the courthouse yesterday for an interview after previous conversations with the detective over the past few weeks in which he first said he’d bought it from a former classmate and later said it was a friend he was hunting with back in November, and suggested it was taken from another truck parked near a gate off Meyers Road in the Mossyrock area, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office report summarized in charging documents. Rider was charged today in Lewis County Superior Court with first-degree trafficking in stolen property and allowed to remain free pending trial on a $10,000 unsecured bond. He has no criminal history.

Jail staff checked the pocket of pants belonging to Robert R. Green, 27, and found suspected methamphetamine and heroin, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Green was re-booked for two counts of possession, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Chehalis police were called about 9:40 a.m. yesterday and again about 2:45 p.m. when the same toddler was found running in the area of the 400 block of Southwest Parkland Drive and 13th Street. DOMESTIC ASSAULT TOLEDO

• A 41-year-old Toledo area man was arrested last night after allegedly striking his wife in the face, arms and ribs after they returned home from a restaurant where they ate and consumed alcohol. Deputies called about 6:50 p.m. spoke to the victim who was taken to the hospital and noted at one point her breathing had been inhibited, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. When they contacted the suspect on the 100 block of Fluckinger Road and tried to wake him up, he allegedly threw picture frames at them and kicked at them, according to the sheriff’s office. A Taser was deployed and Trevor E. Beers was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault and third-degree assault, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

OLD BOYFRIEND BARGES IN

• A 38-year-old Centralia man was arrested after allegedly entering in through the back door of a former girlfriend at the 200 block of Carroll Way outside Chehalis, following her into her bedroom and grabbing her iPhone as she tried to call for help. Daniel L. Haubrick reportedly ran off with the phone and deputies responding just after 4:30 p.m. yesterday found him later at his residence, where he was arrested for first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, fourth-degree assault and third degree theft, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

BROKEN WINDOW, CUT HAND

• A 27-year-old Centralia man denied breaking the bedroom window and removing window screens from around the house of his former roommate at the 600 block of Shanklin Road in Onalaska but was arrested for attempted residential burglary and third-degree malicious mischief following a call on Friday evening by the victim. The woman said she’d gotten several calls that day from Joseph R. Rogers and he was found later with a deep cut to his hand, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. He said he’d gone to visit her, according to the sheriff’s office. Rogers was booked into the Lewis County Jail, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. Prosecutors today declined to file the felony charge.

BREAK-IN CHEHALIS

• An employee arrived to find a business burglarized at the 700 block of South Market Boulevard in Chehalis about 8 a.m. on Friday, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The front door lock had been damaged and as much as $1,000 cash stolen from inside the office, according to police.

• An individual was duped into sending money via Western Union to someone in another state who convinced her that she had won a large grant, according to the Centralia Police Department following a report yesterday evening from the 1500 block of Windsor Avenue.

• A 2002 Honda discovered missing from the 1900 block of South Market Boulevard in Chehalis yesterday had turned up the day before wrecked and unoccupied with its airbags deployed by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called just before 7 p.m. yesterday following the discovery of a car prowl at the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street. Several items were taken sometime during the previous few nights, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A male suspect attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill for a purchase at the 1100 block of Johnson Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police just after 2 p.m. yesterday.

• Chehalis police were called about 11:20 a.m. yesterday to a business on the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue which found it had taken in four fake $100 bills.

• Police were called just before 3:30 p.m. on Saturday to a business on the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue where someone attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill.

• Chehalis police were called about 2:15 p.m. on Saturday to a store on the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue where an individual attempted to pass a fake $100 bill, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A customer at a business on the 10 block of Northeast Median Street in Chehalis called police to report getting change back that included a counterfeit $5 bill on Friday morning. An officer took possession of the bad bill, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 45-year-old Centralia man being booked into the Lewis County Jail on Friday afternoon allegedly handed over his clothing after changing during the booking process with a smoking device and a bag of a crystalized substance wrapped up with it. A deputy responded to the jail about 5:30 p.m. arrested and re-booked Ernest A. Calderon for possession of methamphetamine, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

SUSPECT FOUND BY POLICE DOG

• A 25-year-old Centralia man wanted on an outstanding warrant ran from an officer in the 100 block of Tilley Road in Centralia but was later located by a police K9 team at a nearby apartment around 9 p.m. yesterday, according to the Centralia Police Department. Justin T. Booth was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police. Two other people at the apartment were also arrested for warrants, according to police.

• Morton police reported today an officer was called about 5:40 in the evening for a complaint the occupants of a vehicle parked at the 400 block of Second Street might be engaging in sexual intercourse. When contacted, both individuals seemed to be disheveled and were adjusting their clothing, according to the Morton Police Department. “They were asked to leave the area if they were doing what had been reported,” the department wrote in a brief summary of the Feb. 28 incident. “They agreed to leave and the officer resumed patrolling the area.”

• Officers responded to the intersection of Mossyrock Road West and Aldrich Road about 8:30 a.m. on Friday to a street sign that appeared to have gang affiliated graffiti on it, according to the Morton Police Department.

• Two Portland women traveling in a sport utility vehicle were injured when it hydroplaned and struck a semi truck headed the same direction on Interstate 5 about two miles south of Napavine last night. Troopers called at 10:40 p.m. to the southbound lanes near milepost 68 report the 2009 Mazda Tribute was totaled and impounded. The driver, Jean Dusablon, 55, and her passenger Katherine A. Belge, 51, were both transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol. Dusablon was to be cited for speed too fast for conditions, according to the state patrol. The Tacoma man behind the wheel of Peterbilt tractor hauling two trailers was reportedly unhurt. His truck was able to be driven away from the scene. Firefighters from Lewis County Fire District 5 had been called just 10 minutes earlier to the northbound lanes in the same area where a passenger car had ended up on its top but nobody was transported from hat wreck, according to Fire Lt. Laura Hanson.
