PRESCRIPTION DRUGS SOLD FROM CHEHALIS HOME TO POLICE INFORMANTS, POLICE SAY

• A pair of Chehalis residents were arrested yesterday for allegedly selling Oxycontin, Methadone and Percocet from their home near W.F. West High School and using the woman’s 10-year-old child to assist them. Ronald H. Moore, 24, and Kathryn L. Hale, 31, were picked up on a no-bail warrant issued yesterday by Thurston County Superior Court, according to a news release. The arrests were the result of a months-long investigation that included so-called controlled purchases arranged by a narcotics task force of officers from the Chehalis Police Department and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The two were originally arrested in late August but let out the following day because of a conflict with the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office, according to the Chehalis Police Department. A relative of Hale’s works in the office, according to the information from Chehalis Police Chief Glenn Schaffer. The chief noted additional controlled substances were purchased from the two after their release. Schaffer said police believe Hale’s son was used to access and deliver drugs within the home on the 1600 block of South Market Boulevard. Thurston County is handling the case and they are currently being held in the Thurston County Jail.

ASSAULT OF PREGNANT WOMAN

• Chehalis police arrested a 20-year-old Chehalis resident after a Monday night call from his eight-month-along pregnant girlfriend about an assault. Isreal Marcos was arrested for assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail. Chehalis police detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said it involved shoving and some potential impact to her stomach. When he was booked, he was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine, according to McNamara.

BIG THEFTS

• The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office took a report on Tuesday that somebody stole a 2009 black utility trailer loaded with a Craftsman riding mower (with a 48-inch cutting deck) from a carport on the 19,200 block of Old Highway 99 Southwest sometime between 10 a.m. on Friday and noon on Sunday. The loss is estimated at $2,800.

• The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office yesterday reported a break-in to a Grand Mound area business in which somebody broke the front window, pried back the metal bars and stole more than $1,200 of cigarettes, glass pipes, cash and smoking accessories. The owner of the GN Smokeshop on the 20,600 block of Old Highway 99 told a deputy he discovered the burglary when he arrived about 9 a.m. on Sunday morning . The intruder had broken one light and loosened the connection in another during the burglary, according to Lt. Chris Mealy.

OFF-DUTY OFFICER SPOTS WANTED MAN AT CASINO

• A 29-year-old man was arrested after he left the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester last night for being in possession of a loaded .22 Magnum revolver, a crime because as a convicted felon he is not allowed to have firearms, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff’s Lt. Chris Mealy said an off-duty Centralia police officer recognized Kyle E. Wagar and knew he was wanted. There was an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant for the Olympia man, Mealy said. As Wagar walked toward the road and officers arrived, Wagar was seen bending down towards a shrub where they later found the firearm, Mealy said. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail.

OTHER THEFTS

• Police were called about 1:45 p.m. on Monday to an office building on the 3600 block of Galvin Road which had been broken into. Missing were computers and “components” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called Monday morning to the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue about a burglary in which money was taken.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday afternoon from the 2200 block of North Pearl Street about the theft of a realty lock box from a property for sale.

• Centralia police yesterday morning took a report about the theft of a stereo from a vehicle at the 900 block of G Street that occurred sometime within the previous week.

• Police took a report on Monday afternoon about binoculars taken from a vehicle on the 600 block of E Street. Earlier in the day, an officer was called about a car prowl on the 200 block of South Tower Avenue where nothing seemed to be missing. And first thing Monday morning, an officer took a report of a car prowl on the 300 block of North Rock Street.

• Somebody stole $50 cash and credit cards from a Ford Ranger parked in front of a home on the 18,200 block of Bend Street Southwest in Rochester sometime between noon on Saturday and noon on Sunday, according to a report made to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. It’s doors had been left unlocked, Lt. Chris Mealy said.

FIRE CONSUMES TRUCK BUT TRAILER SPARED

• A truck driver managed to save the goods he was hauling when his vehicle caught fire overnight on Interstate 5 at Grand Mound but the vehicle sustained an estimated $80,000 damage. The Rochester-area fire department was called about 12:15 a.m. today to the shoulder of the southbound lanes near exit 88 and found the semi driver had disconnected his truck from its trailer. West Thurston Regional Fire Authority Chief Robert Scott said they used about 600 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze, apparently caused by a tire blowout and brake fire.

THEFT OF HOMICIDE VICTIM’S MOTORCYCLE FROM SALKUM RESIDENCE

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning the motorcycle ridden by Tony Williams the night before he was killed at the home on the 100 block of Wings Way in the Onalaska-Salkum area was stolen sometime in the second week following the deaths. The registered owner of the 1978 Honda 750 was given back the keys to pick up the motorcycle but it had vanished sometime between Aug 31 and Sept 3, according to the sheriff’s office. The theft report was made Friday after the title was located. It bears a license plate of 6A6910.

BAT ATTACK

• Chehalis police were called about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday to the emergency room at Providence Centralia Hospital about an individual who was reportedly hit in the head with a bat. Further details were not readily available.

ROCK ATTACK

• Centralia police responded about 2:20 p.m. on Saturday to the 100 block of East Center Street and a report by a female that a male came up behind her and hit her in the head with a rock. A police summary of the incident noted the injury was minor and they aren’t sure of the motive.

MAN LEAVES VEHICLE IN GLENOMA YARD AS HE TRIES TO OUTRUN DEPUTY

• A 34-year-old man was jailed Saturday after he reportedly tried to outrun a patrol car on U.S. Highway 12 which attempted to pull him over for speeding and passing illegally. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning the vehicle was traveling more than 80 mph at the 8300 block of U.S. Highway 12 in the east end of the county and sped up as it was pursued. The driver attempted to turn onto Waterloo Road in Glenoma but skidded through a ditch and into a yard, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. The driver fled on foot but was caught, she said. Derek N. Kelley of Rainier, Ore., was booked for resisting arrest and attempting to elude, she said. He was also arrested for first-degree driving without a license and a vehicle ignition interlock violation, she said.

GUN THEFT

• A firearm described by police as a Bersa 380 pistol was reported stolen Friday evening from a residence on the 200 block of West Oakview Avenue in Centralia.

VEHICLE THEFTS

• A Centralia woman who left her vehicle to be repaired discovered on Saturday that somebody else apparently picked it up. The 1990 Isuzu Amigo was left at a location on the 8800 block of 173rd Avenue Southwest on Sept. 5 and the mechanic called her Saturday to say the work was done and asked if she’d picked it up, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. She had not. The black truck is valued at $500.

• Chehalis police were called Saturday to the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds about the theft of a vehicle.

• A 26-year-old Tacoma man called the sheriff’s office on Sunday to say his vehicle was not where he had left in on Interstate 5 but he found it on the 1100 block of Jackson Highway near Toledo and saw a male and a female stripping it of parts. A deputy responding to the approximately 7 p.m. call arrested a Kelso woman who said she had been hired by someone to get it running, according to the sheriff’s office. Sarah A. Fowler, 30, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of stolen property.

THEFTS OF TOOLS, CIGARETTES AND OTHER THINGS

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning the theft of more than $3,700 of various tools and gardening equipment from a storage container on the 200 block of Nicholson Road in Ethel. A deputy took the report on Thursday from a man in Federal Way who said a lock had been cut and the items stolen sometime between February and Sept. 9. Among the missing items were a compressor, a rototiller, a brush cutter and plumbing supplies.

• Somebody broke through the glass front door of a store on the 100 block of Salkum Road and stole $575 of merchandise, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened around 3:15 a.m. on Friday. Taken were 20 packs of Camel cigarettes and four boxes of cigarette tubes.

• Rita M. Hops, 43, of Centralia, was arrested about 11 a.m. on Friday following a contact with police at the 100 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail for forgery, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police took a report of theft of wire from equipment on Thursday afternoon from the 2000 block of Johnson Road.

MORE CAR PROWLS

• A 21-year-old woman who left her car in a trail’s parking area on the 100 block of Highway 603 west of Chehalis on Saturday returned about 4:30 p.m. to find somebody had smashed a window and removed her purse from an area between the seats

• Chehalis police were called to the Applebees parking lot on Northwest Louisiana Street just before 5 p.m. on Saturday about the theft of a stereo from a vehicle.

• Chehalis police took a report on Friday morning of a vehicle prowl. The day before, they were called about a vehicle prowl on Southwest 17th Street.

ANIMAL NEGLECT CASE

• The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office reported this morning it will recommend 60 days in jail for a Toledo woman who pleaded guilty on Thursday to second-degree animal cruelty in connection with a case last fall in which 20 dogs were seized from her property. Theresa Hahn, 27, of Toledo, will be sentenced in Lewis County District Court. Prosecutors will also be asking a judge to prohibit her from owning any dogs for at least the next two years, according to a news release

COUNTERFEIT MONEY ORDERS

• Centralia police took a report yesterday morning from the 300 block of West Pine Street about an individual receiving two counterfeit postal money orders in the mail.

DRUGS FOUND IN WOMAN’S UNDERCLOTHES, POLICE SAY

• An officer called yesterday evening to a report of a suspicious person on the 200 block of Southwest Second Street in Chehalis found a 42-year-old Pe Ell woman who had been wandering around talking to herself, and had a glass pipe sticking out of her purse, according to the Chehalis Police Department. When Danita K. Oster was taken to the jail for having drug paraphernalia, a search turned up a small baggie in her bra containing suspected methamphetamine, according to Sgt. Rick McNamara. She was booked for possession of meth.

WOMAN INJURED WHEN HUSBAND ‘STOMPED” THE ACCELERATOR, AUTHORITIES ALLEGE

• The Olympian is reporting today a Centralia man was jailed in Thurston County for assault after he allegedly stepped on the accelerator of his truck while his wife was trying to get out over the weekend. Read more here.

PEDESTRIAN AND DRIVER BOTH FAULTED FOR ACCIDENT

• Centralia police were called about 11:20 a.m. yesterday to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at West Pear and South Tower Avenue. The injuries were described as minor to none and both individuals were found to be at fault, according to police.

DRUGS

• Police arrested a 27-year-old man yesterday for outstanding warrants and possession of heroin, according to the Centralia Police Department. Wesley W. Mitchem was booked into the Lewis County Jail after he was contacted by an officer about 12:45 p.m. at West Pear and Yew streets.

• Chehalis police said this morning the man arrested early Monday morning for  possession of methamphetamine was Michael J. Wagner Jr., 26, of Napavine.

TOYOTA SPRAY PAINTED WITH PINK

• Centralia police were called to the 500 block of Rock Street yesterday afternoon about a pink squiggly line being spray painted on the side of a vehicle.

ONALASKA MAN REPORTEDLY DIES IN IDAHO MOTORCYCLE WRECK

• An Idaho TV station is reporting an Onalaska man was found dead last night at the scene of a motorcycle crash in Hayden Lake. KXLY.com identified him as Gary E. Otterness, 40, of Onalaska. Read more here.

PACKWOOD FLEA MARKET DRAWS KNIFE THIEVES, SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS

• Deputies were called to the flea market in Packwood late Sunday night after a vendor caught a man inside his tent trying to steal knives. The vendor from Bend Ore. said he had closed up shop and left about 5 p.m. and when he returned later he saw movement and spotted shoes inside, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. He grabbed a pair of legs and deputies subsequently arrested a 20-year-old Puyallup man for second-degree burglary, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said this morning. Samuel W. McArthur was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary, she said. On the same corner of U.S. Highway 12 and Snyder Road a few hours later another vendor chased a man without success from his booth and discovered 50 to 80 knives were stolen. Law enforcement officers located a suspect vehicle about an hour later. Troopers arrested a 21-year-old Tacoma driver for DUI, Brown said. A search of Kevin M. Couthran’s vehicle turned up 20 knives, she said. He was also booked for second-degree burglary.

PACKWOOD MAN GETS OUT OF HAND AT FLEA MARKET

• A 39-year-old Packwood resident was arrested for disorderly conduct on Saturday night after he allegedly walking in the lane of traffic at the Packwood flea market and throwing traffic cones. Kevin W. Legett was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

INTRUDER GOES IN DOG DOOR, LEAVES WITH JEWELRY, TVS AND MORE

• A pair of Tenino-area residents returned home on Sunday to find their house had been ransacked and an estimated $10,450 of valuables missing. It appeared someone got inside through a dog door at the residence on the 3100 block of Sundew Lane Southeast, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning. Among the items stolen were four flat screen televisions, cameras, jewelry and electronic game systems.

BREAK-IN LEAVES LOSS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN TOOLS

• Deputies were called Saturday to Garrison Auctioneers on the 100 block of Avery Road where an estimated $3,150 tools and items had been stolen from a storage facility, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The locks on five storage spaces had been damaged.

STOLEN FLOOD PROTECTION EQUIPMENT SOLD FOR SCRAP

• Chehalis police on Friday arrested a 51-year-old Centralia resident for the June theft of $50,000 of flood protection equipment stolen from K-Mart. The rubber coated aluminum panels called flood logs had been stored in a locked facility outside the retail business on Louisiana Avenue, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Detectives discovered that many of the logs had been sold for scrap at a local recycling center and then shredded, according to a news release Additional parts were located at a Lewis County residence, police reported. Stacy L. Harless was booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree theft and trafficking in stolen property, according to police. Harless was released from jail this afternoon without being charged, pending further investigation.

OTHER THEFTS

• Lewis County sheriff’s deputies arrested two people on Friday in Pe Ell for a previous burglary at a residence on the 4400 block of state Route 6. Bobbie Jo Brooks, 19 of Chehalis and her boyfriend Russell Homan, 37, of Doty, were booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Sheriff’s deputies took a report Saturday of the theft of a 1994 yellow and white motorcycle. Its owner said he had tried to get it restarted along the 200 block of Blanchard Road outside Centralia on Friday evening and left it there when he could not get it going. He returned the next day to find it gone, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Centralia police were called to four vehicle prowls between Friday and Sunday.

SMALL FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN CENTRALIA

• Firefighters were called just after 7 o’clock Sunday morning to smoldering sawdust in a calf shed on the 1300 block of Bayne Street in Centralia, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

DRUGS

• Police arrested a 64-year-old Centralia man on Sunday morning for possession of methamphetamine. Gary A. Lohr was booked into the Lewis County Jail after his contact with an officer at the 700 block of Harrison Avenue, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police arrested an individual early Monday morning in connection with possession of methamphetamine near Southwest William Avenue and Southwest Third Street. Further details were not readily available this morning.

MAN ARRESTED INSIDE CHURCH

• A 28-year-old man from California was arrested for criminal trespass after a janitor spotted him inside a Centralia church on Saturday night. Officers were called about 9 p.m. to Mountain View Baptist Church on the 1200 block of Belmont Avenue, according to Centralia police. Nolan E. Shea, described as a transient, gave his name as “Jehovah” and reportedly told police to just shoot him but said they couldn’t arrest him in his own house, according to police. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

BUILDING STRUCK BY VEHICLE

• Centralia police were called when a vehicle ran into the back of a business on Saturday evening. The damage at the Circle K on the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue was minor, according to police.

SLOW DOWN IN SCHOOL ZONES, POLICE ASK

• Kids are back to school today in the Centralia School District and officers will be conducting extra patrols this week for motorists driving unsafely or too fast in school zones. Centralia Police Department Sgt. Jim Shannon offers this request: “Please drive safely and pay close attention to children starting the new school year.”

LITTLE MARIJUANA FARM IN THE CITY

• Chehalis police got a search warrant yesterday to investigate a tip about marijuana being grown on a hillside above National Avenue and arrested a 34-year-old woman when they found nine plants. They were growing both on the property where Julie M. Shorey lives on Northeast North End Avenue and a neighbor’s, according to Deputy Police Chief Randy Kaut. Shorey was booked into the Lewis County Jail for felony possession of marijuana and officers are looking for her male house mate, Kaut said. He didn’t have details about the size of the plants this morning.

TRACTOR ACCIDENT IN CURTIS

• A man was airlifted to a hospital after a tractor accident yesterday in Curtis. Lewis County Fire District 13 responded about 1 p.m. to the farm on Kahout Road. The patient, who was described as a a male about 30 years old, had a severely broken leg after it was run over by a tractor he was operating, according to Fire Chief Gregg Peterson. Apparently he was getting down from the tractor and knocked it into gear, according to the chief.

HORSE VERSUS CAR IN THE CITY

• Police were called to a collision between a horse and a car in Chehalis on Wednesday afternoon. Detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said yesterday it sounded like the horse ran into a Hyundai and neither was seriously hurt. It happened near Northwest Georgia Avenue on the west side of Interstate 5.

TEENAGE GIRL ARRESTED WITH METH AFTER COMPANION’S TRAFFIC STOP

• A 15-year-old girl was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after the vehicle in which she was a passenger was pulled over in Centralia on Wednesday night. The 20-year-old male driver was cited for driving with a suspended license and jailed on a misdemeanor warrant, according to the Centralia Police Department. It happened about 11:30 p.m. on the 500 block of North Tower Avenue.

STOLEN STUFF

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday on the theft of a green 1999 Kawasaki quad. A deputy called Wednesday to the 300 block of Coulson Road south of Chehalis learned somebody had cut through two fences to get into an open storage shed where the ATV was kept. The loss was estimated at $1,500.

• Centralia police took a report of a vehicle prowl Thursday at the 1200 block of North Washington Avenue. A stereo and a dash-mounted tachometer were stolen, along with a watch and sunglasses, according to the Centralia Police Department.

TRAFFIC INCIDENTS

• Centralia police reported yesterday they will refer a case of two adult males for possible charges of reckless driving involving what was described as a road rage incident. It reportedly occurred on Old 99 between Grand Mound and Centralia on Wednesday.

• Lewis County Fire District 5 responded to a vehicle accident on Wednesday night near milepost 72 on Interstate 5. An adult male was treated and taken to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to fire Lt. Laura Hanson.

DRUG ARREST THIS MORNING IN CENTRALIA

• Police arrested a 28-year-old Curtis resident this morning for possession of methamphetamine. Justin R. Moon was booked into the Lewis County Jail after the approximately 5:30 a.m. contact by an officer at the 1200 block of St. Helens Street in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police also referred for possible charges a case of vehicle prowl in connection with  Moon, police reported.

VEHICLES STOLEN

• Chehalis police were called about 5 p.m. yesterday about the theft of a vehicle from Southwest First Street and Southwest Cascade Avenue.

• A Honda car was stolen from in front of a Centralia home over night and found later yesterday several blocks away, according to the Centralia Police Department. It happened near the 900 block of G Street.

• Somebody stole a child’s electric motorcycle from a garage on the 400 block of South Gold Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday evening.

BREAK-INS AND THEFTS

• Centralia police responded yesterday morning to a burglary at the 1100 block of Elm Street. Further details were not reported.

• A stereo was reported stolen from a vehicle locked inside an address on the 1000 block of South Gold Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police Monday morning.

• Centralia police took a report Monday morning of a vehicle window broken and stereo stolen from the 3700 block of Northpark Drive. On Sunday morning, an officer was called to 1000 block of Madrona Avenue where someone had prowled a vehicle and stolen a backpack and a GPS unit.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday they are investigating more than $4,000 damage and items stolen when somebody broke into a motor home and two campers near Mossyrock. A deputy was called Monday evening after an individual discovered the thefts at the 600 block of Green Mountain Road. Taken in the incident which occurred sometime after Aug. 22 were items such as BB guns, binoculars, a Playstation, games, CDs and DVDs, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

• A woman who was moving to Morton returned to her Mossyrock area home to find somebody had broken in as well as smashed the windshield and rear window of a truck there. The burglary on the 600 block of Winston Creek Road occurred sometime in the two weeks before Friday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Missing were indoor grow lights and computer parts, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

• A burglary was reported in Chehalis just before midnight on Friday night, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VEHICLE VERSUS BIKE

• Centralia firefighters on their way to another incident stopped on the 700 block of Harrison Avenue just before 1 p.m. on Monday when they came across a bicyclist that had run into a pickup truck. The adult female on the bike suffered only minor injuries, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

MAN CITED AFTER HIS DOG BITES BOY ON BIKE

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday they cited a 30-year-old Morton man on Saturday after his dog reportedly chased a 12-year-old on a bicycle, circled him and bit him on the calf on Saturday. It happened on the 700 block of Davis Lake Road and the boy was taken to Morton General Hospital for treatment of two puncture wounds, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. Joseph A. Cowles was given a citation for having a vicious dog, Brown reported.

SUPER-ANNOYING CUSTOMER

• A 23-year-old man described by police as transient was arrested in Chehalis after he allegedly followed a bartender into the bathroom and held the door shut. It happened about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday at a drinking establishment on the 500 block of Pacific Avenue, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Hunter W. Buck reportedly made advances toward the 45-year-old woman, detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for unlawful imprisonment.
