CHICK HOUSE BURNS

• Firefighters were called this morning to a structure fire in Rochester that burned a small outbuilding where chicks were being raised. The 7 a.m. call took personnel from West Thurston Regional Fire Authority to 201st Avenue Southwest and Ashbrook, according to Battalion Chief Jacob Yake. The chicks inside perished, he said. He didn’t say how many. The cause was not released.

COLLISION

• Centralia police arrested a man on Saturday evening at Harrison Avenue and N Street following a vehicle accident. Officers concluded Jovanny Montenegro Perez, 20, of Centralia, was under the influence of alcohol and booked him into the Lewis County Jail for two counts of vehicular assault. Perez was not charged, pending further investigation.

ASSAULTS

• Centralia police on Friday afternoon were looking for Joshua D. C. Rhoades, a 30-year-old they suspect in a road rage incident that included racial slurs and an assault near Bryden Avenue and Mount Vista Road. Police note the Centralia man is a member of the LVL gang who was last seen driving a dark colored SUV.

• Chehalis police were called Friday evening to an assault on an officer from a detainee at the Lewis County Juvenile Justice Center. Further details were not readily available.

• Police were called about 2 a.m. on Saturday to an individual outside a bar on the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue about a misdemeanor assault. Further details were not readily available.

AUTO THEFT

• A Toledo woman called 911 after seeing somebody drive off in her 1999 Honda Civic about 4:45 p.m. on Saturday from a parking lot at Lucky Shot Archery on the 400 block of Coal Creek Road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The car has a license plate of 100 YFB.

OTHER

• Chehalis police were called to the 300 block of Southwest Ninth Street just before 9 a.m. on Saturday where an individual known to the resident had kicked in the door. A male was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail. Further details were not readily available.

BUSINESS BURGLARY

• Crime Stoppers of Lewis County is looking for information on a Jan. 8 break-in at Famous Footwear at the Centralia Outlets in which somebody caused several thousand dollars damage and stole a black safe with a digital keypad. The amount of cash inside was not disclosed. Crime Stoppers asks that anyone with information call 1-800-748-6422.

STOLEN CAR

• A Chehalis police officer alerted to a stolen vehicle through their automatic license plate reader device in the Wal-Mart parking lot last night arrested a 28-year-old Kelso resident. The officer got a “hit” on the 1990 Honda Accord and waited until its driver returned to the car around 11:40 p.m., according to Chehalis police. The automobile had been reported stolen from Kelso. Terry S. Dunivin was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of methamphetamine, according to Deputy Chief Randy Kaut.

STOLEN GUN

• Chehalis police were called yesterday evening about the theft of a .22 rifle from a home on the 700 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue. There was no indication of forced entry and the gun had been taken sometime since the weekend, according to police.

STOLEN STEREO

• Centralia police took a report yesterday morning of a car prowl at the 1200 block of Lum Road. The stereo and some paperwork were taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

COLLISIONS AND NEAR MISS

• Two semi-trucks tangled up on Harrison Avenue near the Skookumchuck bridge in Centralia yesterday but there no injuries, according to Riverside Fire Authority. One of them had to be towed, Fire Capt. Erik Olson said.

• Firefighters were called to a chain reaction collision on Interstate 5 north of Harrison Avenue about 8 p.m. last night in which a half dozen vehicles were involved, according to Riverside Fire Authority. No one was injured, Fire Capt. Erik Olson said.

• A 20-year-old Winlock man was jailed after he slid through a stop sign nearly colliding with a sheriff’s deputy in Winlock on Wednesday night. The detective was traveling  north on North Military Road in a marked patrol car about 8 p.m. and slowed to prevent a collision with a vehicle traveling fast eastbound on Anterim Road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle missed the detective’s driver’s side door by about four feet and then accelerated away after the detective activated his lights, Chief Criminal Deputy Stacy Brown said. The fleeing vehicle finally stopped about three miles away at Tory Lynn Drive, Brown said. A struggle ensued and Colton W. Stevens, 20, was taken into custody, she said. He was intoxicated, and booked into the Lewis County Jail for attempting to elude, resisting arrest and reckless driving, according to Brown.

CHIMNEY FIRE

• Lewis County Fire District 15 was called about 6 p.m. last night to a chimney fire at a home on state Route 505 near Morton Road in Winlock. Firefighters were able to “steam it out” from inside the house and prevent it from spreading, according to Firefighter Patrick Jacobson.

ARMED AND “RAMBLING” MAN TALKED OUT OF HOSPITAL BATHROOM

• Law enforcement officers from four agencies were drawn to Morton General Hospital yesterday after an intoxicated man in a restroom there made a phone call to a friend rambling about being armed and “testing himself and others”, according to police. Morton Police Chief Dan Mortensen said the man was locked in a stall, the officers talked him out and he was taken into custody without further incident. He was armed with what Mortensen described as a 14-inch bayonette-type knife. It happened about 3:30 p.m. Tim Cournyer, an executive at the medical facility, said the incident was not disruptive, and probably hardly noticed by those inside the hospital. John D. Tulley, a Morton resident, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a dangerous weapon and interfering with a health care facility, according to Mortensen. Both offenses are gross misdemeanors, he said.

VEHICLE PROWLER FLEES

• Centralia police were called to the 1100 block of West Main Street after a vehicle prowl about 6:20 a.m. today. A neighbor heard the window breaking and spotted a subject in the vehicle, but the subject had run away before police arrived, according to the Centralia Police Department.

EXPENSIVE WATCH STOLEN

• A watch with a platinum band valued at more than $1,500 was reported stolen yesterday from the 700 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia.

VEHICLE SLIDES OFF ROAD INTO TREE

• A driver and her young child were hospitalized early this morning after a single-vehicle accident on Jackson Highway near Rush Road, according to Lewis County Fire District 5. She lost control in the snow and her vehicle traveled some 15 to 20 feet down an embankment and came to rest against a tree, according to Fire Firefighter Brad Bozarth. The injuries to the woman and girl, who is about 4 years old, did not require advanced life support transport, according to Bozarth.

ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING SUSPECT FOUND IN CENTRALIA

• The 29-year-old man wanted for allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend several times and dragging her out of her Rochester home on Monday night was arrested last night when he was stopped in Centralia for a traffic violation. Juan E. Mejia, of Centralia, was handed over to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office after an officer pulled him over about 9:40 p.m. near G and West Seventh streets in Centralia, according to police. He was first cited for third-degree driving on a suspended license, according to the Centralia Police Department. Mejia was being sought on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping and first-degree burglary.

DUMPSTER ARSON SOLVED, POLICE SAY

• Centralia police jailed a man yesterday for a dumpster fire they believe he set a year or so ago near the Rent-A-Center off Borst Avenue. Charles A. Riggs, age and hometown not readily available, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree arson, according to police.

TEEN SPITS AT POLICE OFFICER

• A 17-year-old Chehalis boy was arrested for third-degree assault after he allegedly spit on a Chehalis police officer trying to bring him into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center last night. Officers called about 6 p.m. to the home on Southwest Chehalis Avenue because the teenager was out of control arrested him for three counts of misdemeanor assault, according to the Chehalis Police Department. At the detention center he tried to run away and then spit on the officer, leading to a fourth offense, according to Deputy Chief Randy Kaut.

DRUGS

• Centralia police found a 20-year-old Doty resident in possession of methamphetamine when they arrested her last night on a Centralia Municipal Court warrant. Bobbi J. Brooks was booked into the Lewis County Jail for both issues after contact with an officer just before midnight on the 200 block of North Tower Avenue, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CENTRALIA MAN SOUGHT FOR ASSAULT AND KIDNAP ATTEMPT

• Law enforcement officers are looking for a 29-year-old man who allegedly barged into his ex-girlfriend’s Rochester home, beat her up and dragged her out of the house by her hair last night. The 24-year-old woman escaped as he was walking her away from her home, and she fled to her mother’s house, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Juan Epifanio Mejia, 29, of Centralia, is wanted on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping and first-degree burglary, sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin said today. Elwin said it happened between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. at the 7500 block of 191st Avenue Southwest. The pair were reportedly arguing about their relationship when Mejia “went crazy” punching the woman in the face several times, Elwin said. He didn’t know where Mejia was taking her, but said the couple was stopped briefly outside by a passing deputy who saw they were holding hands, and was told by Mejia “everything’s okay”. Then Mejia fled, Elwin said. That was about 10 p.m., according to Elwin. Her neighbors called 911 about midnight to report her missing and she was contacted at her mother’s house, he said.

HOMELESS MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING OFFICER

• Centralia police used their Taser on a 57-year-old homeless man who reportedly threatened to assault and then charged an officer early yesterday morning near Harrison Avenue and Interstate 5. David R. Anderson was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault after the approximately 3:20 a.m. incident. Further details were not readily available.

MAN FLEES DEPUTY ON STOLEN MOTORCYCLE

• A stolen motorcycle was recovered and a 37-year-old Glenoma man arrested after a chase in the Randle area on Saturday afternoon, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy tried to stop a 2003 Suzuki Volusia Intruder traveling 65 mph in a 35 mph zone about 2:30 p.m. but the driver fled into a residence on the 800 block of Cline Road, according to Chief Deputy Stacy Brown. Jake N. Dunaway, 37, was subsequently contacted there and then booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, driving without a license and other offenses, Brown said.

MAN HIT BY VEHICLE IN CHEHALIS

• Police and aid were called about 6 p.m. on Friday by a man who said he’d been hit by a car near Safeway on South Market Boulevard in Chehalis and hurt his leg. The driver reportedly took the man home about six blocks away and then left, according to police. The man was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital to be evaluated.

DRUGS

• A pair of Marysville teenagers were arrested in Centralia just before 3 o’clock this morning and one of them was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of Ecstacy, according to police. Jordan T. Godsey, 19, was jailed and Chloe A. Kaehukaiopuaena, 19, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Centralia Police Department. Kaehukaiopuaena was released after the contact with an officer near the northbound onramp from Harrison Avenue onto Interstate 5, according to police.

VEHICLE PROWLS

• Sometime between 11 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday somebody prowled a car in a driveway on the 100 block of Dieckman Road in Adna, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A neighbor’s Honda car was broken into the during the same time period, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown reported this morning. From that car, an estimated $350 of CDs were taken, according to Brown.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called just before 3 a.m. today about the rear window of a vehicle being smashed out at the 600 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia.

HONDA STOLEN FROM WINLOCK FOUND STRIPPED OF WHEELS IN PORTLAND

• Lewis County detectives are looking for information about a white 1993 Honda stolen from Winlock car lot on the 400 block of Hart Road on Jan. 22 and then found on Jan. 31 in Portland missing its wheels and tires. The loss is estimated at more than $2,000. Anyone with information is asked to call Lewis County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-748-6422.

CHEATING DEATH ON INTERSTATE 5

• Chehalis firefighters recommended a 34-year-old motorcyclist buy some lottery tickets today after a wreck on Interstate 5 in which the man was tossed over the center barrier into the oncoming lanes and survived. Aid and troopers were called about 5:45 p.m. yesterday to the area near the West Street overpass after Juan Santana Alvarez, of Auburn, lost control of his Suzuki and was ejected. He said he was northbound on a curve when the wind pushed him into the inside jersey barrier and he traveled along it briefly, according to responders. Alvarez was thrown over the divider into the southbound lanes but jumped back over and came to rest on the inside shoulder of the northbound lanes, according to the Washington State Patrol. A trooper described him with a broken leg and internal injuries. Chehalis Fire Capt. Rob Gebhart said he was conscious, talking and fairly upbeat, for having nearly just been run over by semi-trucks. He was wearing a leather jacket and a helmet, but it seemed like the motorcycle might have been new to him, Gebhart said. Alvarez was taken by ambulance to Providence Centralia Hospital. His condition this morning was unavailable. The 19997 Suzuki VZ800V was totaled; it landed in the northbound lanes, the patrol reported. “He definitely cheated death last night,” Gebhart said. “He was in pretty good shape for what happened.”

THREE ARRESTED FOLLOWING CENTRALIA FIGHT

• Centralia police are investigating a fight and felony assault from yesterday on the 1100 block of South Tower Avenue. Few details were released, but police report they arrested three Centralia men after the 5:30 p.m. call, two for instigating a fight and one on a warrant. Nicholas E. George, 22, was booked into the Lewis County Jail on an unspecified warrant. Tomas L. Delong, 19, and Kevin J. Delong, 20, were arrested for disorderly conduct for starting it, according to the Centralia Police Department. They were not jailed.

DRUGS

• Two Centralia men were jailed yesterday morning for possession of methamphetamine after they were caught vandalizing property with graffiti at the skate park on the 700 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia, according to police. Tristan L. House, 21, and Justin T. Booth, 19, were booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 31-year-old Centralia man was arrested early Saturday morning for possession of methamphetamine after contact with an officer on the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue. Jonathan R. Young was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 36-year-old Toledo resident was booked into the Lewis County jail early Saturday for possession of methamphetamine and a felony warrant. Brian K. Roe was arrested after contact with an officer about 12:25 a.m. at the 400 block of North Oak Street in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called yesterday afternoon to a motel on the 1300 block of Belmont Street after a customer checked out and left drugs behind, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFTS BY TEENS

• Police called Friday afternoon to the 600 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia concluded a male juvenile had stolen a tip jar on the window of an espresso stand. The amount taken was not reported. Police referred the case involving the unnamed teenager for a possible charge of second-degree theft.

• Centralia police arrested a juvenile male Friday afternoon for four counts of second-degree theft for allegedly stealing a relative’s credit card and using it to purchase video games on the internet. The unnamed teenager was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police.

CAR PROWLS

• Centralia police took a report about 11 a.m. yesterday of a vehicle prowl on the 300 block of South Diamond Street. The vehicle’s registration was the only item stolen, according to police.

• An 18-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for vehicle prowl about 2 a.m. on Saturday at the 200 block of South Diamond Street. Nathaniel D. Cline was arrested and then released, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A wallet containing a credit card was taken in a car prowl reported to police on Friday morning on the 700 block of M Street in Centralia.

LOG LOADER GOES UP IN FLAMES

• A truck driver coming into work about 3:50 a.m. today noticed a log loader on fire at North Fork Timber on Hamilton Road, moved some trucks and tried to put it out with fire extinguishers but was unsuccessful, according to Lewis County Fire District 5. When firefighters arrived, the piece of heavy equipment was fully engulfed in flames and was destroyed, according to Firefighter Brad Bozarth. They estimated the loss at about $150,000, Bozarth said.

DRUGS

• Centralia police arrested a 30-year-old woman for possession of methamphetamine overnight. Sally K. Mcallister of Centralia was booked into the Lewis County Jail following an approximately 3 a.m. contact with an officer at the 1300 block of Lakeshore Drive, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police arresting a 23-year-old woman on a misdemeanor warrant late last night also arrested her for being in possession of prescription pills, according to police. Caitlin C. Mason, of Centralia, was booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with an officer about 11:20 p.m. at the 1000 block of West Main Street in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 26-year-old Rochester resident was booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday for a felony warrant and possession of heroin, according to Centralia police. Shaunda D. Posadas was contacted by police around 1:45 p.m. at the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue in Centralia, according to police.

• Centralia police used a Taser on a 23-year-old Centralia resident who ran from officers yesterday, according to police. Dominic L. Coumbs had fled from officers the night before and got away, according to the Centralia Police Department. Coumbs was booked into the Lewis County Jail for an outstanding felony warrant, after contact with officers about 5:25 p.m. near the 1200 block of Alder Street, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police were called about 5:15 this morning about a car prowl on the 200 block of Latona Street. Missing was a GPS device and a flask.

THREAT

• Chehalis police are investigating an incident in which a former patient of Valley View Health Center allegedly made a comment yesterday about “blowing the facility off the map” after he was refused pain medication. Deputy Chief Randy Kaut said officers have been getting a lot of that kind of complaint lately, people making threats when they are refused medications.
