ASSAULT OF CHILD

• A 21-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for first-degree assault yesterday morning after she allegedly threatened to drown her 5-year-old son and forced his head under water during a bath. A family member fought the child away from his mother and took him to the hospital, where he was found not to be seriously injured, according to the Centralia Police Department. Mercedes K. Lopez was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

NEAR MISS

• A speeding driver passing another vehicle on Jackson Highway outside Chehalis nearly ran head on into a deputy sheriff’s patrol car  last night, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy clocked him at 68 mph in a 40 mph zone and subsequently arrested Jeffrey D. King, 27, of Centralia, for reckless driving, according to Sgt. Rob Snaza. The deputy had to slam on his brakes and turn to the right and King swerved at the last moment, Snaza said. It happened about 9 p.m. on the 2800 block of Jackson Highway. King was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

THEFT

• Centralia police were called just before 8 p.m. yesterday about a pressure washer stolen from a carport on the 200 block of Tilley Avenue. A suspect was later contacted by Chehalis police and found to be in possession of the item, according to the Centralia Police Department. Christopher D. Buck, 25, of Chehalis, was arrested for second-degree burglary and booked into the Lewis County Jail, Centralia police reported.

• Centralia police arrested a 34-year-old man yesterday for possession of methamphetamine and an outstanding warrant. Subsequently, an officer learned a computer Matthew W. Rackley had in his possession had been stolen from an apartment. Rackley was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of methamphetamine and second-degree burglary, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called about 2 p.m. yesterday about a small dog stolen from a vehicle parked at the 1300 block of South Gold Street.

• Centralia police were called yesterday morning o the 1500 block of View Avenue where they learned several items – such as a bicycle, a drill and wrenches – had been stolen from a porch and a car.

• Chehalis police arrested an employee at Home Depot for allegedly stealing some $3,700 worth of brass fittings. An officer called Wednesday evening to the home improvement store on Louisiana Avenue arrested John C. Baker, 45, of rural Chehalis, for second-degree theft, according to detective Sgt. Rick McNamara. Baker returned the items he said he thought were destined for the trash, McNamara said. He was not booked, but the case was referred for charging, McNamara said.

DRUGS

• A 29-year-old Centralia man was arrested for a warrant and possession of heroin about 6 p.m. yesterday. Mical S. Ryan was booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with an officer on the 1000 block of Roosevelt Avenue, according to police.

WRECKS

• A 20-year-old driver was cited for texting while driving after her vehicle left the roadway and rolled over about 10 p.m. last night on McClure Road near Toledo. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said neither the Winlock woman nor her 18-year-old passenger were injured, but the Chevrolet Blazer sustained an estimated $1,500 damage.

• A 16-year-old driver suffered what were described as minor injuries when her vehicle rolled over an embankment yesterday morning outside Chehalis. The Chehalis teenager was traveling along Shorey Road near Rogers Road when she took her eyes off the road to adjust the visor, according to Sgt. Rob Snaza.

THREAT ABOUT JUDGE SENDS WOMAN TO JAIL

• A woman who apparently didn’t like the way her case went was arrested yesterday after she made a statement to the bailiff “to the effect that somebody should shoot the judge,” according to Chehalis police. Jammie A. Carpenter, 26, of Rochester, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for harassment following the incident at Chehalis Municipal Court, according to detective Sgt. Rick McNamara. She is set to be released, without charges, pending further investigation.

DRUGS

• A 21-year-old Chehalis man was booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday evening following an interview with officers at the Chehalis Police Department. The case of Drake A. Lorber was referred for possible charges of delivery of marijuana that resulted from an ongoing investigation, according to detective Sgt. Rick McNamara. The jail log shows he was arrested and booked for felony possession of marijuana.

• A 25-year-old Kelso woman was arrested late yesterday afternoon when she arrived to pick up her car from Centralia police after it had recently been impounded. Officers had been investigating a shoplifting incident from the Centralia Outlet Mall and were looking for stolen property, according to Sgt. Kurt Reichert. Instead they found heroin and morphine inside her vehicle, he said. Jaci M. Ireland was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• A 27-year-old Centralia man was arrested yesterday for felony possession of marijuana and an outstanding warrant after contact with police on Kearney Street in Centralia. Alejandro Morales-Meza was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called just before 1 p.m. yesterday to the 600 block of North Pearl Street about a window being broken out of a vehicle, possibly by a BB.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday of a tire punctured and vehicle scratched in the 1100 block of South Gold Street.

• Centralia police were called yesterday morning abut gang graffiti spray painted on a fence in the 1100 block of Cobra Lane.

NEIGHBORS EVACUATED FOR BROKEN GAS LINE

• Nearby residences were evacuated after a natural gas line ruptured last night at the 2100 block of North Pearl Street in Centralia. Riverside Fire Authority called about 9:10 p.m. established a safe zone and stood by so Puget Sound Energy could come and shut off the gas. The line had been broken by a lawn mower, according to fire Capt. Greg Schwartz. Firefighters were on the scene until about 10:30 p.m.

THREAT

• Chehalis police were called yesterday afternoon after a man allegedly told a collection agency employee he was going to burn down their building. He was contacted but not arrested, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

THEFT

• A 46-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for trafficking in stolen property yesterday evening after officers concluded she sold somebody else’s bicycle to a business on Tower Avenue in Centralia. Jinney Unger was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 38-year-old man was arrested for misdemeanor theft yesterday afternoon after his image was recognized on a video of a security camera stolen from a building on the 500 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia. Michael Kauer of Centralia was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called about 10:30 a.m. yesterday to the 2800 block of Russell Road in Centralia where someone had cut the convertible top and a tire on a vehicle.

NOT AN ATTEMPTED LURING

• Police were called on Monday after a 9-year-old child told their parent two males offered the child candy near a school bus stop in Chehalis. Police said a detective happened to be in the area when it occurred and found the candy-offerers were teenagers who were joking and messing around, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

MARIJUANA PIPE AT SCHOOL

• The case of a 15-year-old Onalaska High School student being allegedly found with a marijuana pipe at school is being referred for a possible charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy was contacted yesterday by the school principal, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said the girl was expelled for the remainder of the school year.

ASSAULT

• Chehalis police called to the 2200 block of Jackson Highway yesterday evening arrested a 20-year-old man for second-degree assault. Police detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said the victim, the suspect’s girlfriend, was choked. Thomas H. Soeby, of Chehalis, was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

THEFT

• A deputy was called yesterday morning to the Packwood Senior Center about a burglary believed to have occurred between Friday and yesterday. An employee discovered the coffee donation box had been moved and most of its cash was missing. The loss is estimated at as much as $80.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday from the 1600 block of North Pearl Street that a brown 1977 Chevrolet Nova was stolen over the Mother’s Day weekend. The car’s license plate reads IVW 182.

• Police were called about 4:30 p.m. yesterday about a car prowl on the 400 block of Lakeshore Avenue in Centralia.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday about a vehicle prowl on Northwest Airport Road.

KIDNAPPING

• Two people were arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on Friday for kidnapping and robbery. Further details were not readily available. More later.

VEHICLE ROLLS OFF ROADWAY, THEN SPEEDS AWAY

• A man who barricaded himself in the attic of an rural Chehalis home was subsequently arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on Saturday. Just after 5 p.m., witnesses observed a vehicle traveling recklessly on Forest-Napavine Road East before it left the roadway, rolled over and got back on the road speeding away, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The  wrecked vehicle was subsequently found in a driveway on the 200 block of Rosebrook Road, where the man was hiding in the attic, according to the sheriff’s office. Officers eventually went into the attic and arrested Robert J. Lee, 47, of Winlock. He was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital with various scrapes and then booked for driving under the influence, resisting arrest and other offenses, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

ATV, TWO WOMEN ELUDE DEPUTIES TWICE

• A 41-year-old woman was arrested after a police pursuit of an ATV west of Randle on Friday. A deputy followed two females on an ATV on Kiona Road using lights and sirens but the vehicle turned up a long driveway and the passenger ran into the woods, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The driver, Tamara L. Hoffman, 41, of Randle, stayed with the vehicle and deputies tried to find the passenger, who they believed had a warrant for her arrest, according to the sheriff’s office. When deputies returned, Hoffman and the ATV were gone, the sheriff’s office reported. Hoffman was subsequently found dirty and wet from hiding in the woods, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Hoffman was booked into the Lewis County Jail for a warrant and attempted eluding, Brown said.

THEFT

• Centralia police responding to a burglary in progress at the 200 block of Downing Road about 2 o’clock this morning subsequently arrested three juvenile males from a vehicle seen speeding away from the area, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police took a report about 4:45 p.m. yesterday of a burglary at the 2500 block of Fords Prairie Avenue in which a computer “tower” was stolen.

• A Chehalis man who parked his black 2002 Ford F250 pickup on the 1500 block of Bishop Road in Chehalis trying to sell it reported on Saturday somebody stole all its tires, custom rims and other parts, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The loss is estimated at $4,800.

• Police were called on Friday afternoon to the 1100 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia about the theft of two fire extinguishers, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about 11:30 p.m. last night to an apparent attempted vehicle prowl on the 1400 block of Johnson Road in Centralia.

• Centralia police took a report about 9:30 p.m. yesterday of a vehicle prowl on the 500 block of Harrison Avenue.

• Centralia police were called about 10 a.m. yesterday to the 1500 block of Windsor Avenue about a vehicle prowl that had occurred overnight.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday evening about charges showing up on an individual’s account following a vehicle prowl the night before in the Chehalis Home Depot parking lot in which a wallet was taken. Charges have been made in Chehalis and Rochester already, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BB GUN VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called yesterday morning to two different locations where someone had shot out windows on vehicles with a suspected BB gun. One was at the 200 block of West Pear Street and the other at the 400 block of South Iron Street.

DRUGS

• A 21-year-old Tacoma woman is facing possible charges after a search during her booking into the Lewis County Jail yesterday turned up a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine and a pipe inside her person. Police took the woman to the jail after an approximately 4:15 p.m. call about shoplifting on the 100 block of High Street in Centralia. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and the case is being referred for possible charges of possession of methamphetamine and shoplifting, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 46-year-old man was arrested for suspected drugs and violating a protection order after an incident Sunday afternoon where he reportedly was banging on the door of his mother’s Ethel-area home, a place he was prohibited from going, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. When he was searched, deputies found six pills (of an unspecified nature) in his possession, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Donald C. Johnson was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Brown.

• Police arrested a 28-year-old Auburn woman on Saturday evening at the 1600 block of South Gold Street for possession of heroin and stolen property. Tiffany King was arrested and then released, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police arrested a 58-year-old Centralia woman on Friday afternoon for possession of methamphetamine. Marcy A. Crites was booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with an officer at the 1300 block of Crescent Avenue in Centralia.

• Chehalis police arrested a 22-year-old man on Friday when he showed up to a parking area near Penny Playground on Southwest 13th Street to allegedly sell some marijuana. Instead of the expected buyer, he was met by officers, according to police detective Sg. Rick McNamara. Richard S. Warren, of Chehalis, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for delivery of a small amount of suspected marijuana, McNamara said.

• A 23-year-old Centralia resident was arrested Friday morning at the 1200 block of West Main Street for possession of methamphetamine and a warrant. Dominic L. Combs was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

SCHOOL BUS COLLISION

• Centralia police took a report about 11:30 a.m. on Friday of what they described as a minor damage, non-injury collision involving a school bus at the 900 block of J Street.

ACCIDENTAL GUNSHOT

• Centralia police were called about 2 p.m. on Saturday to the emergency room at Providence Centralia Hospital where a 42-year-old Oakville man was being seen for a gunshot to his leg. Officers were told when he almost dropped a gun and tried to catch it, it fired into his leg. The accident occurred in the Oakville area, according to police.

ASSAULT

• Centralia police arrested a 23-year-old man overnight for second-degree assault. Police, called about 2:40 a.m., took a report that he choked his girlfriend during a dispute. Joshua J. Berglund, of Centralia, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police arrested a 28-year-old woman for fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor, yesterday afternoon after she allegedly slapped a female over text messages and postings on Facebook. Andrea M. Barrera, of Centralia, was cited and then released after the incident connected with the 1200 block of Mellen Street.

• A 22-year-old Centralia woman was booked into the Lewis County Jail after she allegedly slapped a police officer very early yesterday morning  along the 500 block of West Main Street in Centralia. An officer contacted Audrey M. Griffin who was “stumbling” down the street at about midnight, police Sgt. Kurt Reichert said. She got irritable and he told her if she behaved better, she might get a ride home, Reichert said. She reportedly slapped the officer and then, when he was seat belting her into his patrol car, spit in his face, Reichert said. She was arrested and booked for third-degree assault, a felony.

THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 4:25 a.m. yesterday to a motorcycle shop on the 200 block of East Maple Street where someone had kicked open a door. Nothing was found to be missing and it appeared the intruder was scared away by an alarm, according to police. At about 9 a.m., officers were called to a business on the 100 block of South Gold Street where someone had forced their way inside and stole a motorcycle from a showroom. Missing is a block 1995 Harley Davidson, with teal-colored flames, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 3:30 p.m. yesterday to a burglary on North Market Boulevard believed to have occurred the previous week.

• Centralia police were called about 3:50 p.m. yesterday to the 600 block of Centralia College Boulevard about the theft of a computer.

• Chehalis police were called about 4 a.m. today about a car prowl on the 1300 block of Northwest Airport Road. Among the items missing was a camera.

• Police were called about 12:35 p.m. yesterday to the 200 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia about a purse and a GPS unit stolen from a unlocked vehicle.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday from the 200 block of West Main Street about a fraudulent charge made to an individual’s account. The charge appeared to have been made from another country, according to the Centralia Police Department. Further details were not readily available.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE

• Firefighters were called early yesterday morning to the end of Central Boulevard in Centralia where a large container loaded with trash was burning. The 50-ton capacity container was waiting to be shipped out by rail. It was suspicious, according to Riverside Fire Authority Capt. Scott Weinert.

SMOKE BUT NO FIRE

• The new pizza parlor on Harrison Avenue near Interstate 5 in Centralia was evacuated briefly last night when someone smelled and saw light smoke inside the building, according to Riverside Fire Authority. Firefighters called about 8:30 p.m. determined a motor – for the blower in the heating system – on the roof has burned up, fire Capt. Tim Adolphsen said. Firefighters shut off the power and turned the building back over to the business, Adolphsen said.

THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 4 p.m. yesterday to the 700 block of South Tower Avenue about the theft of mail.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office recovered a stolen vehicle yesterday on the 900 block of Koontz Road. A deputy was told it was purchased for $7,000 from a business in Fife. It was stolen out of Pierce County and valued at $25,000, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

• Crime Stoppers of Lewis County reports that an antique claw-foot bathtub and several thousand dollars of wire was stolen in a burglary on the 300 block of Garrard Creek Road in Rochester sometime between last Thursday evening and the following morning.

SLEDGE HAMMER VERSUS TRUCK

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning they arrested a 22-year-old Randle resident for an April 18 incident in which he allegedly took a sledge hammer to a truck being driven by a juvenile male on Silverbrook Road in Randle. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said Blaine M. Murphy, 22, was arrested for malicious mischief. Information about when he was arrested was not reported or readily available.
