STOLEN VEHICLES

• A couple returning from a short hike yesterday in the Packwood area found only glass on the ground where their pickup truck had been parked. They had left the 1986 Ford Ranger on Slalom Way near the Cowlitz River dike and when they returned after about two hours, it was gone, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Criminal Deputy Gene Seiber said since the key was not left in the vehicle, the thief presumably broke the window and hot wired the truck. The value is estimated at $1,600.

• A black 1994 Ford Explorer was reported stolen from the 1100 block of West Pear Street in Centralia yesterday. The vehicle went missing sometime between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m., according to the Centralia Police Department. Its license plates reads 100 VQY.

WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME

• Several individuals were arrested at a residence in Centralia yesterday, some with warrants and others for obstructing. Officers went to the rental home on the 200 block of Hemlock Street with information on the location of a person wanted by the state Department of Corrections, according to police. “We showed up and one thing led to another once we started checking people,” Officer John Panco said. At about 1:30 p.m., officers arrested for obstructing a police officer: Lacey K. Malone, 23; Darcie N. Negrete; 19, and Cory M. Hughes, 18, all from Centralia. Arrested for outstanding warrants were Kelly M. Davis, 35, Centralia; Max A. Cross, 22, of Olympia; and Cory R. Aldrich, 24, Centralia. A few hours earlier, Dominic L. Combs, 23, of Centralia, was arrested in the same vicinity on a warrant and later in the afternoon, Peter D. Harris, 37, of Centralia, was arrested in the same vicinity for possession of methamphetamine. All were booked into the Lewis County Jail.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report yesterday of five horns stolen from atop trains parked near Reynolds Avenue and Lum Road over the previous two or so weeks. The loss to Union-Pacific is estimated at $7,500, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police arrested an individual for second-degree burglary  yesterday after a resident of the 600 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue lost power tools from a garage and found some of his possessions at a Centralia pawn shop. Elijah Haskins, 22, of Onalaska, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Chehalis police.

• Three chain saws and hand tools valued at about $1,000 were stolen from a shed on the 300 block of Forest-Napavine Road south of Chehalis sometime between March 17 and yesterday, according to a report made to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office yesterday morning.

THREAT AT MEDICAL CLINIC

• Chehalis police were called to Steck Medical Center on the 1200 block of Bishop Road about 12:30 p.m. yesterday after a patient reportedly unhappy with his treatment made a comment if he had a bomb, he’d blow the place up. The 77-year-old man was contacted but no arrest was immediately made.

DRUGS AT SCHOOL

• An officer arrested a juvenile male just before 11 a.m. yesterday for possession of narcotics at Centralia Middle School, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center.

ASSAULTS

• Centralia police took a report about 9:20 p.m. last night an individual was assaulted at the 2000 block of Borst Avenue by a subject trying to sell drugs.

• Centralia police reported this morning the case of a male subject who tried to trip an officer in the 900 block of North Tower Avenue last night will be be referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for a possible charge of third-degree assault.

TWO POLICE PURSUITS OVERNIGHT END WITH ARRESTS

• A 31-year-old man wanted for probation violations led deputies on a high-speed pursuit overnight – a good portion of it on two spiked and flattened tires – through Littlerock and Rochester before driving into a ditch and being arrested. It began when an Olympia police officer on his way home contacted the driver near the Ritchie Brothers complex on Case Road Southwest, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Donald M. Bush, listed as transient, had a Department of Corrections warrant for second-degree escape from community custody, meaning he had not been in proper contact with his community corrections officer, according to Lt. Greg Elwin. Bush sped away in his 2007 Ford Escape reaching speeds of 100 mph as two sheriff’ deputies got behind him, Elwin said. His tires were spiked at Littlerock Road near 130th Avenue yet he continued to Mima Road Southwest and then Bordeaux Road Southwest before coming to rest in a ditch, according to Elwin. The pursuit covered sixteen miles in 14 minutes, Elwin said. Bush reportedly told the officers he knew he would be going back to prison if he were caught. Bush was booked into the Thurston County Jail for eluding a police vehicle.

• A 17-year-old driver was arrested after he reportedly screeched his Crown Victoria sideways through a Chehalis intersection last night in front of sheriff’s deputies standing outside a door at the sheriff’s office evidence facility. Deputies jumped in their patrol cars and when they rounded a corner, observed the car stopped up on the curb atop the remnants of a concrete planter it had pushed nearly a block, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened about 10:30 p.m. The teenager was arrested for driving under the influence and turned over to a sober driver, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

TWO ARRESTED FOR BURNING CAR FOUND IN ONALASKA

• A Honda Civic found burning off Kruger Road in Onalaska earlier this month led to the arrest yesterday of two individuals who had reportedly stolen the car and lit in on fire to try to hide it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives yesterday arrested James A. Bitner, 28, of Centralia for second-degree arson. His accomplice, Courtney R. Blurton, 24, of Onalaksa was also arrested, according to Chief Deputy Stacy Brown. The vehicle had been stolen on Feb. 26 from Coal Creek Road.

VEHICLE PROWLS

• Centralia police were called yesterday to the 2800 block of Russell Road where tools had been stolen from the back of a truck overnight.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday morning of jewelry stolen from a vehicle on the 1000 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia.
