• A 22-year-old Rochester resident was arrested yesterday after he allegedly drove for about two miles with a pursuing deputy behind him, then stopped, jumped out of his vehicle and fled on foot toward a river area yesterday afternoon. It was about 4:50 p.m. when a deputy was in the area of Nelson and Independence roads and spotted a vehicle with a driver believed to have an outstanding warrant, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The motorist ran a stop sign at 20 to 30 mph and took off recklessly, according to the sheriff’s office. Eric J. Pogue eventually gave up and was taken into custody, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. Two pipes in his pocket field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to Breen. Pogue was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for attempt to elude, a violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act and and also a case was referred to prosecutors for third-degree driving with a suspended license.

THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 10:30 a.m. yesterday to the 1300 block of Alexander Street to take a report of cash missing from a locked drawer.

DRUGS

• A 57-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after contact with police at the 500 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia about 8:15 p.m. yesterday. Stephen W. Normand was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. Prosecutors declined to file the felony charge today.

• Centralia police called about 3:40 p.m. yesterday to the 900 block of Johnson Road booked a 15-year-old boy into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for possession of marijuana.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called to the 1100 block of West Main Avenue at 4:25 p.m. yesterday where an individual reported his residence was broken into and items taken, according to the Centralia Police Department. The investigation is still ongoing.

• A customer at the Motel 6 on the 700 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia reported to police just after 10 p.m. yesterday that an unknown person or persons entered his motel room and stole cash, shoes and medical marijuana, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Centralia police were called when a vehicle collided with a building causing minor damage at the 600 block of North Tower Avenue just before 10 a.m. yesterday. Jessica R. Moon, from Rochester, was arrested for third-degree driving with a suspended license and for driving without required ignition interlock device, according to the Centralia Police Department. She was then released, according to police.

• A log truck failed to negotiate a curve on state Route 6 near Dryad and drove off the road to the left, striking several trees before coming to rest in a ditch yesterday. Troopers called about 4:50 p.m. to the scene near Hatchery Road found the westbound Peterbilt was totaled, according to the Washington State Patrol. The 49-year-old driver, Shaun L. Neal, from Livingston, Montana, was uninjured but was transported for a medical issue to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to the state patrol. The highway was closed in both directions with a detour put in place using River Road. BURGLARY CHEHALIS

• A deputy was called to a construction site at the 300 block of Frogner Road outside of Chehalis yesterday where someone had damaged a door, gone inside a shop and stole various tools including a Ryobi sawzall, a nail gun, a Craftsman drill and a circular saw. It happened between 3 p.m. on Monday and 11 a.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

CAR PROWL

• A purse was reported stolen from a parked vehicle while the owner was looking at a house that was for sale on the 2800 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 7 p.m. yesterday. It contained medication and credit cards, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FALSE NAMES

• Two people contacted last night in reference to possible shoplifting at the 100 block of West High Street in Centralia were arrested for identity theft after allegedly providing false names to police. Officers responding to an approximately 8:30 p.m. call booked Fardawsa F. Ahmed, 31 of Edgewood, and Nicholas T. Riippi, 38 of Puyallup, into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. Riippi was also booked on an outstanding warrant, according to police.

KNIFE SCARE

• Centralia police were called about 9:15 p.m. yesterday when an individual reported he confronted a male for trespassing at West Pear and South Oak streets and the male he believed to be homeless threatened to kill him with a knife, according to the Centralia Police Department. The investigation continues.

GUNS STOLEN

• A deputy contacted a Morton-area resident about 6:15 p.m. yesterday who reported that seven firearms and a large number of pure silver coins were removed from his home at the 6000 block of state Route 508 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Among the missing guns area 44 Magnum revolver, a 32 caliber handgun, two semi-automatic 22 handguns, a Glock model 24 and two Ruger 9 mm guns, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

TOOLS STOLEN

• A deputy was called about 4:45 p.m. yesterday to the 200 block of Main Street in Onalaska where a couple reported that about $1,200 worth of tools and yard equipment were stolen from their detached garage while they were away between March 15 and March 30. A neighbor had noticed their back gate was open while they were gone, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Chehalis police were called about 7:25 p.m. yesterday when a woman said she’d left her purse by the cash register at a business on the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and employees saw a couple take the purse and get into a vehicle, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called just before 7 p.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of West Main Street where an individual reported someone broke into his house and stole several items and also accessed his bank account. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about 5:45 a.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of Long Road in Centralia where a home owner reported someone had entered his unlocked storage shed and stolen three Stihl chain saws and one Stihl weed trimmer, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A homeowner discovered his shed was broken into at the 1000 block of Marion Street in Centralia and $850 worth of house framing tools had been stolen, according to a report made to police about 5:35 p.m. on Saturday.

• Clem G. Grant, 39 was arrested about 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the 400 block of West Main Street in Centralia on an outstanding felony warrant as well as first-degree burglary for an incident a day before, according to the Centralia Police Department. Grant was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

• Police were called to the 400 block of Hemlock Street in Centralia about 8:15 a.m. on Friday to take a report of a bicycle stolen out of a backyard shed.

CAMPGROUND BREAK-IN

• A deputy called yesterday morning to a campground at the 2200 block of Centralia-Alpha Road learned that sometime since 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, someone ripped a lock off from a maintenance shed and stole about $2,000 worth of tools and equipment. Among the missing items are two Stihl chainsaws, two Stihl weed eaters, two backpack blowers, a gas hedge clipper and pruning sheers, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

HAMMER THREAT

• Centralia police called about 8:30 a.m. on Friday to the 300 block of West Plum Street arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly threatening to kill the an individual while wielding a framing hammer. James T. Holley was booked into the Lewis County Jail for harassment, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BAD CHECKS

• Police called just before 2 p.m. on Saturday to a business on the 100 block of High Street in Centralia for a pair suspected of passing bad checks arrested Thomas Charles Stephenson, 58 of Tacoma, for unlawful issuance of checks and also arrested Karen E. Saylor, 46 of Tacoma, for possession of methamphetamine and obstructing,  according to the Centralia Police Department. Both were booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

SCAM

• Centralia police on Friday evening were called by an individual who reported they had responded to an ad on CraigsList to rent a house and were tricked out of approximately $2,500. The officer researched the contact information and the phone number that was called is listed on the internet as a known scam number, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case was associated with the 1200 block of Ward Street in Centralia.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Police were called about 7:20 a.m. yesterday to the 400 block of Northeast Adams Avenue in Chehalis where someone had attempted to remove the battery from a Jeep parked in front of a residence.

• A purse was stolen from a vehicle parked at the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 6:45 p.m. yesterday.

FUNNY MONEY

• Centralia police were called about 8:25 a.m. today to a store at the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue when a clerk noticed receiving a counterfeit $20 bill from a customer who had already left.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 35-year-old Centralia driver was injured when a car struck his Lincoln Navigator on U.S. Highway 12 about three miles east of Montesano this morning. Jose J. Romero Mejia was traveling eastbound when a Acura station wagon heading north on Monte-Brady Road attempted to cross the highway and failed to yield, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers called to the scene about 11:30 a.m. found both vehicles were totaled, according to the state patrol.  Romero Mejia and the other driver, 59-year-old Connie Gadwa of Aberdeen, were both transported to Summit Pacific for treatment, the investigating trooper reports.

NIGHTTIME HOUSE FIRE

• A family escaped a house fire without injury over the weekend and their practice of keeping interior doors closed kept the fire contained. Firefighters called about 3 a.m. on Saturday to the 600 block of Haywire Road in Napavine saw smoke coming from the second story and found fire in the upstairs bathroom, according to Lewis County Fire District 5. District 5’s Laura Hanson said a woman awoke and got up when she heard a noise coming from the bathroom. The couple was able to get their three young children out, Hanson said. There was smoke damage throughout the house but the closed bathroom door kept the fire damage contained to that room, Hanson said. The fire originated with a plugged in item overheating, she said.
