DOMESTIC ASSAULT GLENOMA

• A 50-year-old man was arrested last night after allegedly beating his girlfriend and choking her from behind until she nearly passed out. A deputy met with the victim and the suspect yesterday evening at Belcher Road in Glenoma to follow up on a dispute from the night before, and found she had bruises including on her arms and forehead, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Clifford R. Daniel, of Glenoma, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

COMMOTION AT HARDWARE STORE

• Chehalis police were called just after 10 p.m. yesterday by a female who was concerned her father had left home with a handgun and headed to a Chehalis residence on McFadden Avenue after reportedly getting beat up at a bar. Officers eventually located the 46-year-old man – who may have been drinking – at Ace Hardware on South Market Boulevard, according to the Chehalis Police Department. “Police ordered him to the ground, he didn’t comply, so he was tased,” detective Sgt. Gary WIlson said. The 46-year-old fell backwards and ended up with a big cut on the back of his head, according to Chehalis Fire Department. Because the Taser had been deployed into his back, the fall pushed the barbs farther in, and they need to be removed at the hospital, Fire Capt. Ted McCarty said. Sgt. Wilson said this morning no gun was found, the man was not taken into custody and police are still sorting out what may have occurred earlier regarding an assault.

COMMOTION IN CENTRALIA

• Centralia police arrested a 64-year-old man last night at the 1300 block of Rose Street who was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Officers say Gerald D. Warner fled into his home and barricaded the door, but was eventually taken into custody, with an additional count of resisting arrest for trying to avoid getting arrested.

COMMOTION AT WAL-MART

• Police responded about 7:30 p.m. yesterday to reports of a man with a rifle slung across his back wandering through the parking lot at Wal-Mart and believed to be looking into vehicles. His reported behavior caused great concern, but it turned out to be nothing criminal, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Arriving officers ordered the man to the ground and once they secured his weapon, and got his side of the story they let him go, detective Sgt. Gary Wilson said. He was looking for his own vehicle, which someone else had parked, Wilson said. And he had his muzzle loader with him because he’d brought it to Wal-Mart to see about getting it repaired, he said.

VANDALISM

• Chehalis police were called yesterday morning to the 2500 block of Kresky Avenue where someone had broken into the vacant Elks club building. A window was broken and a lot of vandalism done inside including spray painting, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

THEFT

• Police were called to the 1300 block of Sunset Way in Centralia late yesterday afternoon regarding the theft of documents.

• Centralia police were called just before 1 p.m. yesterday about the theft of mail from the 1900 block of Ahlers Avenue.

BURGLARY PACKWOOD

• Someone ransacked a house at the 200 block of Riverdance Lane in Packwood and stole a television and possibly other property, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim is making a list, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said this morning. The break-in occurred sometime in the five weeks prior to Sunday, according to Brown.

CAR PROWL

• Chehalis police were called yesterday evening about a possible vehicle prowl from over the weekend at the 2100 block of North National Avenue. The case is under investigation, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Chehalis police took a report last night of fishing items stolen from the bed of a truck parked in a driveway on Southwest Newaukum Avenue.

WEED IN JAIL

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that a corrections officer found marijuana hidden in the mattress of an inmate at the Lewis County Jail. The incident was investigated on Saturday and David C. Ash Jr., 31, was re-booked into jail for possession of a controlled substance by a prisoner, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

PARKING RAGE

• Chehalis police were called to Wal-Mart following an argument over a parking spot between two drivers in which one of them allegedly grabbed the other by the neck and tried to pull her out of her vehicle. It happened about noon on Saturday and the suspect, a 53-year-old Olympia man, will be getting a citation for fourth-degree assault in the mail, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

AND FROM MORTON

• Two hoses and a garden gnome went missing from the 300 block of Third Street in Morton. The police department indicated yesterday they have no suspects in the theft, which was reported on Wednesday night.

• Morton police reported yesterday a warning was given to a pair of individuals whose loud arguing was a nuisance to their neighbors on the 300 block of East State Street in Mossyrock. An officer that responded to the home at about  7:45 p.m. on Friday learned they were fighting over spilled beans, according to the Morton Police Department.

ON THE ROAD

• A 50-year-old man who walked away from a rollover accident that totaled his truck on a forest service road near Randle yesterday was arrested for driving under the influence. A deputy contacted Steven B. Westby from Vancouver following the approximately 7:45 a.m. wreck at milepost 11.5 of Forest Service Road 25, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Westby complained only of leg pain and was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

• A 44-year-old Randle man suffered a possible concussion when he swerved to miss a deer and drove his 1980 Chevrolet Corvette over an embankment at milepost 3.7 on Forest Service Road 23 near Randle on Sunday evening, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy who contacted the driver at Morton General Hospital early yesterday morning issued the man a citation for driving without insurance, according to the sheriff’s office.

• A 32-year-old man who caught the attention of a deputy yesterday evening when his car spun out in some gravel in a parking lot near a soccer field in Centralia reportedly said it happened because his 7-year-old daughter hit his foot while she was sitting on his lap driving around the park. Robert C. King, of Centralia, was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon based on the brass knuckle the deputy observed in the vehicle,  according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A trooper also responding to the area near the 100 block of Pioneer Way arrested King for driving under the influence and reckless endangerment, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. King was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

NAPAVINE AREA HOUSE FIRE

• Firefighters were called about 1:30 p.m. today to a home on Newaukum Valley Road north of Napavine where fire broke out in a kitchen and spread a bit into the attic. “The homeowner, when we arrived, was attacking it with a garden hose and got most of it put out,” Lewis County Fire District 6 Firefighter Mike Goodwillie said. Crews from District 6 and District 5 made sure the flames had not spread anywhere else in the two-story house, Goodwillie said. There was smoke damage throughout and significant damage to the kitchen, he said.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF KNOCKS OUT POWER, CAUSES FIRE

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office believes someone cut a tree down over the weekend intentionally to cause it take down power lines at milepost 7 on Bunker Creek Road, and did the same thing along the 400 block of Manners Road. Deputies and others responded about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday to the area west of Centralia, where the electricity was knocked out to most of the residents along Bunker Creek Road, according to the sheriff’s office. At Manners Road, the incident caused a fire, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. She’s asking anyone with information to call Lewis County Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-748-6422.

UNRULY WOMAN BOOKED

• A 51-year-old woman being held down by another woman because she was reportedly drunk and out of control allegedly kicked in the chest a police officer who arrived to help. It happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at a residence on the 800 block of South Pearl Street, according to the Centralia Police Department. Deana Wynerger was arrested for third-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

ANGRY BOYFRIEND BOOKED

• A 33-year-old man who allegedly threatened to shoot his girlfriend in the face was arrested for felony harassment yesterday at the Cascade Peaks Campground in Randle. Deputies called about 10:30 a.m. were told he suspected she had cheated on him with someone else in the campground and wanted her to tell him who it was, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was scared because he put a gun in his waistband, according to the sheriff’s office. Christopher B. Dolph, from Ridgefield, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office. However, he was released from jail this morning as no charges were filed pending further investigation.

• Chehalis police were called about 5:45 a.m. on Saturday to a report a 21-year-old had slapped and punched his girlfriend in Chehalis. An officer subsequently located the suspect, Soyel L. Reyes, at his residence on the 400 block of North Market Boulevard and arrested him for felony harassment, according to the Chehalis Police Department. A charge of fourth-degree assault is being referred to prosecutors as well, according to police. Reyes was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

BURGLARY TO GARAGE

• Mechanic’s tools and a Husqvarna 450 E-series chainsaw were stolen from a garage at the 800 block of Spencer Road north of Toledo, according to a report made the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning. The loss is estimated at $1,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police were called just after 8 o’clock yesterday morning to the 200 block of Shirlee Avenue where an individual said someone stole their wallet from their vehicle during the night.

DRUGS

• A 33-year-old Ethel resident was arrested for possession of a controlled substance after a “loaded syringe” was found under the passenger’s seat of a vehicle he was in on Friday evening. A deputy had responded to a market at the 1400 block of U.S. Highway 12 in Ethel because Jeremy R. Duryea was not supposed to be on the property, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said a deputy got permission to search the vehicle. The driver, a 56-year-old Mossyrock man was not arrested, although there was a loaded syringe beneath the driver’s seat as well, according to Brown. Duryea was booked into the Lewis County Jail, however, he was released from jail today as prosecutors declined to file a criminal charge. The case for the driver’s suspected drug violation is being forwarded to prosecutors for evaluation, according to Brown.

VANDALISM

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that someone damaged a road grader, a gate and a road to the tune of about $15,000. Its owner reported he’d dropped the John Deere piece of equipment off on one day and when he returned, he found it in a ditch, according to the sheriff’s office. The CB radio was missing, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. Brown said it happened at the 500 block of Wildwood Road in south Lewis County and at mile marker two of the 600 Road in Curtis.

• Police took a report yesterday of windows getting broken at a vacant building on the 500 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia.

• Chehalis police were called about 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning to a church on the 1800 block of Snively Avenue where someone had punched and broken a small window on the door.

• Centralia police took reports on Friday of tires slashed on several vehicles along Windsor Avenue as well as one on Delaware Avenue and another on Crescent Avenue. One vehicle’s paint was damaged by an unknown sharp object, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THE WAL-MART BEAT

• An individual called police about 9:45 p.m. on Friday saying 15 to 20 kids in the parking lot at Wal-Mart – one with a red laser light – surrounded their car. A responding officer was unable to locate the kids, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• An officer was called to the parking lot at Wal-Mart just after 8 p.m. yesterday because an individual heard what sounded like someone screaming or crying from inside a crate in a vehicle. It was a goat, police said.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

• An 18-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for second-degree assault after deputies responded yesterday morning to Little Hanaford Road and contacted his bruised girlfriend who said he’d punched and choked her during a dispute that had been going on for three days. Jordan M. Twidwell was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

EAGLES RIPPED OFF

• Police were contacted about 6 p.m. yesterday about a burglary at the Eagles club on the 2300 block of North Pearl Street in which liquor and some other property was stolen from the building, according to the Centralia Police Department.

AUTO THEFT

• A 26-year-old homeless woman was arrested yesterday morning for possession of a stolen vehicle. The Centralia Police Department indicates the morning incident associated with the 700 block of West Plum Street involved a vehicle stolen from somewhere out in the county earlier in the day. Alisha A. Holmes was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police. The sheriff’s office indicates the truck – with its keys left in it – was taken from a residence on Graf Road outside Centralia.

DRUGS

• Chehalis police were called yesterday afternoon about suspected theft of narcotics from a residence on Southwest Fair Avenue. Further details were not readily available.

FELONY CANDY THEFT

• Centralia police responding around midnight to the Shell station on the 600 block of South Tower Avenue about a shoplifting incident identified the suspect from security video as a 22-year-old Chehalis woman. Chandra M. Munsey allegedly stole candy, according to the Centralia Police Department. Munsey wasn’t there when officers arrived, according to police. Sgt. Jim Shannon said that because this is the third shoplifting incident in which she has been implicated in less than 180 days, they are referring the case to prosecutors for a charge of organized retail theft.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Centralia police were called about 10:20 a.m. yesterday to Thorbeckes at Fort Borst Park where someone had stolen a laptop computer from a vehicle.

WILDFIRE

• Managers of the Alder Lake Fire report this morning it has grown about 25 acres since yesterday. The fire’s behavior continues as it has for the past few days, creeping and rolling with occasional torching in the steep rugged terrain. The 253-acre forest fire continues to progress to the southeast, where it threatens residences along Pleasant Valley Road, outside of Mineral. The fire is 10 percent contained. The lightning-caused fire just south of the lake was first reported on Aug. 11.
