THREAT WITH FIREARM LANDS MAN IN JAIL

• A 41-year-old rural Centralia man who allegedly confronted a neighbor during a parking dispute by pointing a pistol at the neighbor’s face was jailed yesterday. Deputies called about 12:45 p.m. to the 400 block of Reinke Road were told the issue was about a property line easement and the alleged victim had parked blocking the driveway, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Corey L. Moran allegedly came out of his residence, pulled a 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol and aimed it at his 40-year-old neighbor, Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said. Moran was arrested for first-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, Kimsey said.

KIRBY VACUUM REPO GOES VIOLENT

• A woman who attempted to retrieve a Kirby vacuum from a Chehalis resident who was behind on his payments called 911 yesterday evening to report the customer pushed her down, began to hit and kick her and then choked her, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Officers responding just before 6 p.m. to the 600 block of Northeast Franklin Avenue arrested Jason R. Ferris, 32, for second-degree assault and booked him in to the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

MOTORIST PULLED FROM VEHICLE PARKED ON TRACKS

• Centralia police say a 32-year-old motorist from Rochester stopped his vehicle on a set of railroad tracks in Centralia and then refused to exit the vehicle when ordered to do so by officers last night. Officers responding about 12:20 a.m. to the area near Reynolds Avenue and Blair Road had to break the window and drag him out, according to the Centralia Police Department. They arrested Steven R. Stacy for obstructing and booked him into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

THEFT

• Police were called just before 7 o’clock this morning to the 1300 block of West Main Street in Centralia when a woman saw someone by her shed with her tool box. The individual fled towards the freeway and a search with a police dog did not turn up their suspect, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A deputy was called yesterday to the 100 block of Shannon Lane west of Chehalis following the discovery of a break-in to a shop building next to a home in which a propane heater, a tool box, two machetes and other items were stolen. The victim said it occurred sometime during the previous two weeks, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A 42-year-old man from Woodland was booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday in connection with a Vader burglary early last month in which more than $40,000 worth of property was stolen. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning deputies began following up immediately on the incident at the 1000 block of state Route 506 which was reported on March 9. Among the valuables missing were two vehicles, 13 guns and more than 50 antique model cars, Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said. Kimsey said deputies were assisted in locating a suspect on Saturday by the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, the Kelso Police Department and the Longview Street Crimes Unit. Dustin I. Wynn, one of the suspects, was arrested for multiple felonies including first-degree burglary and first-degree trafficking in stolen property, according to the sheriff’s office.

DRUGS

• A case involving a 15-year-old boy from yesterday morning at the 800 block of Eshom Road in Centralia was referred to the Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Juvenile Division for possession of marijuana, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• A 16-year-old Centralia boy was charged as an adult yesterday with second-degree rape in a case police began investigating at the end of February. Centralia police were told by a 16-year-old girl it happened while she was at a friend’s home in Centralia with six others. The girl said she had rebuffed his advances but he came into the guest room where she was sleeping and forced himself on her, according to charging documents. At the end of March, she picked the 16-year-old boy from a photo montage and he was initially charged in juvenile court, according to authorities. Lewis County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Brad Meagher said a judge agreed the teen’s case could be moved to Lewis County Superior Court. His bail was set yesterday afternoon at $50,000.

CENTRALIA RESIDENTS AWAKEN TO FIRE

• Firefighters called about 6:10 a.m. today to the 2300 block of Rosewood Lane in Centralia found heavy smoke coming from the attic of a home but then located the fire in a storage room in the garage. It was quickly extinguished and there was no damage to the living portion of the residence, according to Riverside Fire Authority.  The occupants had woken up to smell of smoke, gone outside and called 911, according to Fire Capt. Terry Ternan. Nobody was inured, Ternan stated. The cause is under investigation.

STRANGER DETAINED FOR GIVING TRINKETS TO KIDS

• Chehalis police were called at 7:30 p.m. yesterday to the 1000 block of Northwest Prindle Street where they were told a stranger was in the neighborhood shaking children’s’ hands and giving out tokens. Parents spoke to him and had asked him to leave, department spokesperson Linda Bailey said. “We found he could be arrested for unwanted touching,” Bailey said. James P. Sauter, 54, of Chehalis, was arrested for fourth-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

FAUX IRS AGENT VICTIMIZES CHEHALIS RESIDENT

• A 43-year-old Chehalis man was tricked out of $2,750 after he was contacted by someone claiming to be with the IRS who said he owed back taxes and needed to make the payment in the form of gift cards. “Unfortunately the victim did provide what they were asking for and then they asked for more,” Chehalis Police Department spokesperson Linda Bailey said. The man called police yesterday evening to report what had occurred and was told it was a scam, Bailey said. The police don’t have anything they can follow up on in the case, she said. “No phone numbers, name, nothing,” she said. The real Internal Revenue Service does not operate in that manner, Bailey said.

BURGLARY PACKWOOD

• A deputy was called yesterday afternoon about a break-in to a cabin at the 100 block of Timberline Drive in Packwood in which at least $1,000 worth of property was stolen. Among the missing items a Yamaha guitar, a pair of women’s snowboard boots and bindings as well as a 30-inch flat screen television, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened between 3 p.m. on April 8 and 2 p.m. yesterday, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called about 10:50 a.m. yesterday to a business at the 100 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia where sometime during the night someone had cut the fence to the compound and stole a cash register and scale, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about 7:45 a.m. yesterday to the 1500 block of Lewis Street in Centralia where a victim reported someone broke into his detached garage and stole tools, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BURGLARY CHEHALIS

• A 26-year-old Winlock woman was arrested yesterday after residents of the 300 block of Newaukum Valley Drive arrived home and discovered a person in their house who locked them out, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies dispatched just before 3:35 p.m. entered the residence, contacted the woman and took her into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. Shila K. Brennan was booked into the Lewis County Jail for burglary, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. The suspect is unrelated to the victims, he said.

• Someone broke into a storage unit at the 300 block of Kirkland Road south of Chehalis and stole a box spring-mattress set, three samurai swords and movie prop swords, according to a report made yesterday afternoon to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim reported the items were there when he left at 2:30 p.m. on Friday but when he returned at 8 a.m. Saturday the lock was gone and the property missing, according to the sheriff’s office.

BURGLARY WINLOCK

• A deputy was called yesterday afternoon to the 200 block of Winlock Waters Drive south of Winlock where someone had pried a sliding glass door from its rails and broken it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The woman who owns the property isn’t yet sure if anything was taken, according to the sheriff’s office.

BURGLARY MOSSYROCK

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning a residence on the 200 block of Blankenship Road near Mossyrock was broken into by someone who caused significant damage inside and stole thousands of dollars worth of valuables including 10 firearms. A deputy responding on Monday learned it happened sometime between 9 p.m. Sunday and 10:30 a.m. on Monday, according to the sheriff’s office. Among the items stolen are a coin collection in a tackle box, a Gibson Epiphone guitar, a Carvin 30-watt amplifier, two gaming consoles and games, more than 20 knives and the guns which included rifles, shotguns and a revolver, according to Chief Deputy Dusty Breen. Five doors, two televisions a computer and other belongings were damaged, Breen said.

DRUGS AT SCHOOL

• Police were called about 1:45 p.m. yesterday to Chehalis Middle School on the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street on a report of three juveniles possessing a green leafy substance. The case is being investigated, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VANDALISM

• An individual reported about 2:10 a.m. today that an unknown person smashed out several windows of his vehicle at the 1000 block of Eckerson Road in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN WIRING MISSING

• A deputy was called about 8:20 a.m. yesterday to a business on the 200 block of Winston Creek Road where sometime over the weekend someone stole 400 feet of power cable valued at about $10,000, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Locks were found broken and the wire’s protective casing was left behind, according to the sheriff’s office. The theft occurred sometime after 5 p.m. on Friday and before 7 o’clock yesterday morning, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. A complete list of stolen items is being compiled, according to Breen.

GARAGE BURGLED

• Centralia police were told someone cut a hole in the side of a detached garage at the 700 block of North Tower Avenue to get inside and steal items. Among the property reported missing are jewelry, documents and tools, according to a report made to police about 8:20 a.m. yesterday.

HARASSMENT

• Chehalis police were called about 10:40 a.m. yesterday to a restaurant on the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue to take a report that a customer threatened an employee. The incident is under investigation, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

FRAUD

• Morton police said yesterday they are investigating an allegation a bank account was hacked and money stolen. The issue was reported last Wednesday, according to the Morton Police Department.

SEX CRIME ALLEGED

• A 23-year-old Morton man was arrested yesterday after a 15-year-old girl reportedly admitted to her mother she had consensual sex with a family friend in February. A deputy responded last night to talk with the mother and the girl in East Lewis County and got copies of Facebook messages between the two that talked about him coming over as soon as no one was at her home, according to court documents. Michael J. Barnett was booked into the Lewis County Jail and then charged today with third-degree rape of a child and also communication with a minor for immoral purposes in Lewis County Superior Court. Both are class C felonies with a maximum penalty of five years in prison. His bail was set at $10,000 and his arraignment scheduled for May 27.

CHICKEN HOUSE LOST, DOGS SAVED

• A woman sustained minor burns rescuing dogs from kennels inside her barn when an adjacent chicken coop caught fire in the Boistfort Valley yesterday evening. Firefighters called about 5:30 p.m. to the property on the 2300 block of Wildwood Road found the poultry house engulfed in flames and were able to get it put out before it burned down the barn, according to Lewis County Fire District 13. The barn ended up with a charred wall and some damage to its roof however, Fire Chief Gwen Turner said. No animals were lost, Turner said. The chicken coop had been vacant. The homeowner was taken to the hospital to be treated and has been released, according to Turner. The cause of the fire will be investigated, she said.

LAWN AND GARDEN EQUIPMENT STOLEN

• An unknown person or persons did extensive damage to a pole barn when they burglarized the structure at the 400 block of Short Road near Morton sometime during the past approximately three weeks. A deputy responding on Friday afternoon found all the electronics had been removed from an Airstream motor home and various heavy lawn and garden equipment missing, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Among the stolen property was a DR brush mower, a DR snow blower, a log splitter and a Yamaha mower, according to the sheriff’s office. The loss for the owner, a 64-year-old Olympia resident, is currently estimated at $50,000, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said this morning. The case is under investigation, Breen said.

THEFT OF KARAOKE EQUIPMENT

• Centralia police were contacted at 6:25 p.m. on Friday to take a report of the theft of karaoke and DJ equipment from the 1200 block of Alder Street. An investigation is ongoing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

AUTO THEFT

• A vehicle found abandoned at the 1200 block of West Plum Street in Centralia about 6:40 p.m. on Saturday turned out to be a rental car stolen in California, according to the Centralia Police Department. A second abandoned rental car from California found about 2:45 p.m. on Sunday at the 200 block of Hemlock Street in Centralia had also been stolen, according to police.

ASSAULT

• Chehalis police were called at 3:28 p.m. on Friday to a report of a third-degree assault from Lewis County District Court on West Main Street. Further details were unavailable.

VANDALISM

• Chehalis police were called just before 10 a.m. on Saturday to take a report that a house and vehicle had been egged on West Main Street.

• Police were called about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday regarding vandalism to a house on Southeast Magnolia Drive in Chehalis during the night.

• A child sustained a leg injury due to their car seat not being properly secured during a two-vehicle collision at Johnson Road and Reynolds Avenue just before 8:30 a.m. on Friday, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Members of two fire departments responded yesterday just after noon to a two-vehicle collision on state Route 6 near Chilvers Road. Two patients were treated at the scene and then release, but three others were transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to Lewis County Fire District 6. Department spokesperson DJ Hammer said the injuries appeared to be minor.

• A 47-year-old Centralia man was arrested after a deputy was called just after noon yesterday to a barn structure at the 200 block of Stearns Road west of Chehalis where he was allegedly taking some wooden boards. Jeffrey A. Pickett said he had the owner’s permission but didn’t know the owner’s first name, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Pickett was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary, according to the sheriff’s office. Prosecutors declined to file a felony charge.

VEHICLE THEFT

• A yellow 1986 Mazda pickup was reported stolen just after 1 p.m. yesterday from the 300 block of West Pine Street in Centralia. It has a  license plate reading C02458H, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 3:45 p.m. yesterday to the 2100 block of North National Avenue following the discovery that a silver trailer-tow dolly was missing.

• Centralia police were called about 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday to the 500 block of East Summa Street regarding a vehicle theft.

OTHER THEFT

• Centralia police were called just after 10 a.m. yesterday to take a report of the theft of cash from a residence on the 600 block of Lakeshore Drive in Centralia.

• Chehalis police took a report on Wednesday afternoon from a woman who said valuables were taken from her purse while it was at the 100 block of Southwest Fifth Street. Among the missing items were a driver’s license and bank cards, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police were called about 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday to take a report of the theft of prescription medication from the 1700 block of Sunset Way.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Someone stole a Stihl MS660 chainsaw from the back of a truck parked at the 2700 block of Graf Road in Centralia sometime between 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 2 p.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The loss is about $1,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

UNRULY PERSON

• Centralia police were called to Providence Centralia Hospital on the 900 block of South Scheuber Road about 9:10 p.m. yesterday where an individual was allegedly causing a scene and refusing to leave. Randy W. Hausinger, 55, of Shelton, was arrested for interfering with a health care facility and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police had arrested then released Hausinger about 7:25 p.m. the day before at the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue for allegedly drinking alcohol at a bus stop, citing him for unlawful transit conduct, according to police.

TOUCHING INVESTIGATION

• Centralia police were called about 4:20 p.m. yesterday to take a report of alleged inappropriate touching of a child, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 37-year-old Chehalis man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after contact with an officer at the 900 block of Ellsbury Street in Centralia about 8 a.m. on Wednesday. James L. Costalez  booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

MAD MOM

• A 41-year-old Centralia woman was arrested just after 1 a.m. yesterday for allegedly throwing a baseball bat at her son’s vehicle and damaging it at Oxford Avenue and and Warren Street in Centralia. Stacy M. Burleson was cited for third-degree malicious mischief and then released, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called at 11:30 p.m. yesterday regarding someone throwing eggs at a vehicle and slashing two of its tires at the 200 block of West Main Street.

• A deputy was called just after noon yesterday to a residential burglary at the 100 block of Lake Terrace Place near Mossyrock. An individual house sitting there for a relative reported someone had forced open a back door sometime between 5 p.m. on Monday and 10:46 a.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Possibly missing is a television and other items, but a list of stolen property is still being compiled, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Someone stole a decorative statue from in front of an apartment at the 100 block of South Railroad Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 2:50 p.m. yesterday.
