DOMESTIC DISPUTE

• Centralia police were called about 10:25 a.m. yesterday by a resident from the 2900 block of Mount Vista Road who said she received a death threat and was blocked by the suspect the evening before from leaving their home. The investigation is continuing, according to the Centralia Police Department. Shane J. Carpenter, 41, was arrested, booked into the Lewis County Jail and today charged in Lewis County Superior Court with felony harassment, unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree domestic assault. Judge James Lawler set his bail at $100,000, twice what prosecutors requested. The woman who was living with Carpenter and Carpenter’s wife told police he punched his wife in the face, knocking her out and when he thought she was going to call police, he grabbed a BB gun rifle and slammed  the butt of it next to her toes and yelled he would kill her, according to charging documents. He then allegedly would not let either woman leave the residence, although they eventually left and got a hotel room, the documents allege. The wife reportedly would not cooperate with police. Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sara Beigh today indicated Carpenter has a rather lengthy criminal history and was in prison from 2005 until 2014.

• A 43-year-old man who was angry at his girlfriend and didn’t want her to leave allegedly used a piece of wood to strike her van, trying to get the door open, and was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief yesterday morning, according to the Centralia Police Department. An officer responding to the approximately 8:30 a.m. call to the 700 block of South Gold Street in Centralia booked Patrick J. McCarty into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

PROPERTY DISPUTE

• A deputy called about 1:15 p.m. on Friday to the 200 block of U.S. Highway 12 outside of Napavine regarding a property dispute between two neighbors found one of them building a cinder block wall in an area the other said was his easement. The 59-year-old man who had called 911 complained the wall would prevent large trucks from passing through to his property, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy advised the two it was an issue that needed to be resolved in civil court, advised they consult with attorneys and suggested seeking anti-harassment orders. However, before the deputy left, the 59-year-old started removing the blocks and began pushing on the wall to knock it over, which led to the 38-year-old neighbor yelling profanities and raising a large metal post above his head in an aggressive manner, according to the sheriff’s office. Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said the 38-year-old also began striking the blocks with the post. Joshua L. Nichols, 38, of Napavine, was arrested for harassment and booked into the Lewis County Jail, Brown said. Prosecutors declined to file the felony charge.

BIG THEFT REPORTED

• Chehalis police were called about 2:40 p.m. on Friday to a business at the 500 block of North Market Boulevard regarding an alleged first-degree theft. The case is under investigation, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

ALLEGED PACKAGE THIEF CAUGHT

• Centralia police were called just before noon yesterday when a passerby reported observing a male take a package off a porch on the 300 block of South Gold Street. Officers located the suspect a short distance away and recovered the item from Amazon, according to the Centralia Police Department. Arrested for third-degree theft and booked into the Lewis County Jail was 20-year-old Trevor A. Bartley, according to police. The delivery consisted of women’s make-up.

AUTO THEFT

• Officers overnight located a stolen 2016 Ford Explorer which had been sitting for several days in a parking lot at the 1200 block of Belmont Avenue in Centralia. The sport utility vehicle which was missing from Oregon was returned to Enterprise car rentals, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 8:30 p.m. yesterday to the 700 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue for a missing vehicle. The person suspected to have taken it is someone who has been allowed to use the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer before, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

OTHER THEFT

• Centralia police took a report yesterday from the 1200 block of North Scheuber Road that sometime since last Wednesday, a guitar and a laptop computer were taken.

• An officer was called just after 8 p.m. on Friday to the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue where he was told a customer brought a suspected shoplifter back into the store. The business decided to handle the issue without police involvement, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Police were called to an auto dealership at the 1900 block of  Northwest Louisiana Avenue in Chehalis just after 8 a.m. on Saturday regarding a vehicle prowl. A set of keys was left inside the vehicle, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

GUN SHOT INTO BUILDING INVESTIGATED

• Chehalis police were called just after 11 a.m. on Sunday to an auto dealership at the 1900 block of  Northwest Louisiana Avenue after a copper jacket, shell casing, was found inside the building. The officer took a photo of a hole above a door and noted it appeared to have entered from the direction of the freeway, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Chehalis police were called just before 2 p.m. yesterday to the 300 block of Southwest Third Street regarding a passenger side window broken out of a vehicle.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A horse was killed and 32-year-old motorist from Rochester injured when the two met at the 1100 block of Lincoln Creek Road west of Centralia at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. The driver said he came around a corner, saw a large horse in his lane and was unable to avoid it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The horse rolled over the hood and the top of the Honda Accord and died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver suffered a bruised forehead, the car was totaled, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. Brown said the horse had broken out through its fence earlier in the day and its 19-year-old owner had been unable to find it. She will likely be cited for animal at large, Brown said.
