A log truck driver was apparently uninjured when the loaded truck tipped over at a ramp to Interstate 5 south of Chehalis this afternoon.

Lewis County Fire District 5 called about 3:50 p.m. to the exit 71 interchange found the logs spilled but not blocking the roadway, according to Fire Lt. Laura Hanson.

The driver did not need to be transported to the hospital, Hanson said.

The Washington State Patrol was investigating why it occurred, she said.

The truck was up-righted and appeared to possibly be fixable, according to Hanson.

A Bernese Mountain dog who slipped down a 150-foot cliff in the Mount St. Helens area was rescued yesterday with a rope-raising system.

The Forest Service and a Skamania County sheriff’s deputy were called yesterday morning by a 26-year-old Colorado woman on a cross country hike, according to the sheriff’s office.

She was on a trail when her two dogs went over a bank and she was able to get one up on her own, but not the 90-pound Bernese, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

It happened along a trail on the south side of the mountain, off Forest Service Road 90, the sheriff’s office said.

After responders from North Country EMS out of Yacolt were called, five individuals plus the owner descended down the mountain and hooked the dog up with ropes, according to the news release. The dog was able to walk herself up.

The pet, named Maggie, did not incur any serious injuries and was back on the road with her owner, according to the sheriff’s office.

A Centralia log truck driver was airlifted to a Seattle hospital after he fell asleep and rolled over his truck early his morning about eight miles east of Raymond.

Troopers called about 4 a.m. reported Brandon K. Jones, 26, was westbound on state Route 6 with an unloaded log truck when it crossed the centerline, continued through the ditch and came to rest on its driver’s side, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Jones was flown to Harborview Medical Center with leg and hip injuries, according to the state patrol.

His 2003 Kenworth was described as totaled.

A spokesperson from Harborview this afternoon said Jones is in surgery and when he gets out, will go into an intensive care unit.

CHEHALIS – Chehalis police and sheriff’s deputies responded about 11:30 this morning to an incident on Southwest First Street near Southwest Saunders Way in which a man’s family called when they saw him take a gun into the garage and then heard shots fired.

When officers arrived he was sitting on the floor and was unhurt, according to police.

Deputy Police Chief Randy Kaut said the man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Officers found the gun hidden away in the garage, according to police.

A 16-year-old Toledo boy was arrested this morning for allegedly assaulting his father with a baseball bat.

Police and aid were called about 1:15 a.m. to the home on the 300 block of Oak Street in Toledo.

The 55-year-old father suffered major trauma to his head, according to responders.

“He was flown to Harborview, I think at this point is in critical condition,” Toledo Police Chief John Brockmueller said this morning.

Brockmueller said the son left, but returned home later this morning and was picked up to be transported to the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center.

He was to be booked for first-degree assault, Brockmueller said.

The police chief said he didn’t yet have all the details.
