BREAK-IN

• Deputies are looking for a man with short red hair and a scruffy beard seen loading items into the trunk of a silver car at a residence that was broken into yesterday south of Chehalis. Deputies called about 4 p.m. to the home on the 3500 block of Jackson Highway learned that sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. someone stole more than $2,500 worth of valuables, including a 42-inch Samsung television, two wedding ring sets, other jewelry and about $600 cash, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Also missing are three pocket knives with mother of pearl handles, Chief  Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

• A deputy was called yesterday morning to a residence west of Chehalis where someone apparently slipped inside and stole a laptop computer that was sitting on a dining room table while someone was home. The 47-year-old victim at the 400 block of Bunker Creek Road said her boyfriend may have left a door open when he let the dogs in, according to the Lewis County Sheriff”s Office.. He saw the computer about 8 a.m. and when he returned 10 minutes later, it was gone, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. There is a “person of interest” in the case, Brown said.

THEFT

• A little more than $200 was reported stolen from a locker at the 2000 block of Borst Avenue in Centralia yesterday afternoon, according to the Centralia Police Department.

COUNTERFEIT CASH

• Centralia police were called just before 6:30 p.m. yesterday about a male and a female attempting to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at the 600 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia. No arrests were made, according to the Centralia Police Department.

UNRULY MAN

• A 39-year-old Centralia man was arrested for disorderly conduct at the 100 block of East Maple Street in Centralia at about 9:15 p.m. yesterday. Michael A. Kauer was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

STROLLING POULTRY

• Police were called about 6:40 a.m. today about a chicken walking on Chamber of Commerce Way in Chehalis.

NURSING HOME THEFT

• A resident of Riverside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center on the 1300 block of Alexander Street in Centralia reported yesterday someone stole $109 from their room, according to police. An investigation is ongoing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

X-BOX GONE

• An X-box system was reported missing from an office at the Yard Birds Mall in Chehalis yesterday afternoon, according to police.

KISSING UPSETS OBSERVER

• Police were called to a complaint around 9:45 p.m. yesterday about two people making out on the lawn in front of the Chehalis library for over an hour. The caller said it was very disturbing and wanted them stopped, according to police. No arrests were made.

PEEPING TOMS NOT LOCATED

• Police were called just before 11:30 p.m. yesterday to the 300 block of Southwest Sixth Street in Chehalis about two or three individuals looking into someone’s windows. No suspects were found, according to Chehalis police.

VANDALISM

• A 19-year-old inmate who said he accidentally broke a fire sprinkler head inside his cell on Sunday got in trouble again yesterday morning for allegedly doing it a second time, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

HIT AND RUN ARREST

• A 23-year-old motorist was arrested in Chehalis for driving under the influence after he allegedly struck a parked vehicle just before 10 p.m. yesterday at the 200 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia and left the scene. Marco P. Francisco, of Chehalis, was booked into the Lewis County Jail also for hit and run, according to the Centralia Police Department.

APARTMENT FIRE

• A Centralia apartment complex was evacuated late yesterday afternoon when a fire broke out in one of the units. Firefighters called about 5 p.m. to Reliable Enterprises’ building on the 200 block of West Reynolds Avenue found an occupant had put it out with a fire extinguisher, according to Riverside Fire Authority. A pot holder too close to a burner on a stove had ignited and the ensuing flames damaged a wall and cabinets, Capt. Erik Olson said.

OOPS

• An un-named 22-year-old Vader man on a stolen and speeding dirt bike allegedly struck a trooper’s patrol car before speeding away yesterday afternoon north of Vancouver, according to The (Vancouver) Columbian.

ARRESTEE: “SHE SAID SHE WAS 18”

• A 14-year-old Chehalis-area girl called 911 yesterday evening after a man she met on the Internet allegedly groped her in a car at Stan Hedwall Park, according to Chehalis police. Sgt. Gwen Carrell said the two had developed an online relationship over the past couple of months and they met in person yesterday when the man picked her and they drove to the park on Rice Road. There was some inappropriate touching and she opened the car door, ran away and called 911 on her cell phone, Carrell said. The suspect, 25-year-old Christopher Haight, was found, arrested booked into the Lewis County Jail for indecent liberties, according to Carrell, however further investigation suggested  police would recommend a charge of third-degree child molestation. He said the girl told him she was 18 years old, Carrell said. According to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office, however, Haight will be released without charges pending further investigation.

POLICE SEEKING ASSAULT SUSPECT

• Police are looking for a 30-year-old Centralia man after he allegedly unleashed his Pit Bull on a neighbor who tried to intervene in an argument last night. Officers called about 10:40 p.m. to the 100 block of East Center Street found the neighbor bleeding from a dog bite and suffering from a minor head injury, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police were told Ronald W. Manjares Jr. was at his home arguing with his girlfriend when the neighbor got involved. Police said Manjares also hit the neighbor over the head with a lamp before fleeing the scene.

MARIJUANA MISSING AFTER BURGLARY

• Someone broke into a Mossyrock area home and stole a small amount of medical marijuana over the weekend. A deputy called yesterday afternoon to the 100 block of Ajlune Road was told the residents returned home about 3:30 p.m. after being gone since the morning before to discover two and a half ounces of marijuana missing from a dresser drawer, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The loss is estimated at $400.

DRUGS

• A 26-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine just before midnight on Saturday at the 1200 block of Alder Street in Centralia. Tyler V. Geist was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 41-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor warrant around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday after contact with an officer at the 200 block of Railroad Avenue in Centralia. Tom A. Reeves was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 28-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop about 4:35 p.m. on Friday at Johnson Road and Linda Lane in Centralia. Jesse L. Thomas  was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FOUR PICKED UP IN BUCODA

• Centralia police with the help of Thurston County law enforcement officers arrested four individuals wanted on various warrants after they got a tip leading them to the 100 block of West 11th Street in Bucoda on Friday night, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Police were called to the 100 block of South Washington Avenue in Centralia just before 9 a.m. yesterday about a car tire being slashed.

• An inmate said he accidentally broke a sprinkler head inside his cell when he was messing around with it because he was so excited he was going to be released from jail yesterday. The cell was flooded and 19-year-old Zachary J. Johnston-Penrose, was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

SHERIFF: MACHETE WIELDING LANDS MAN IN JAIL

• A 34-year-old Randle man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he allegedly swung a machete at his ex-girlfriend’s face during an argument and subsequently used a tire iron to smash out all the windows and headlights of her pickup truck. The suspect ran off into the woods carrying the machete at the 100 block of Kiona Road but an arriving deputy caught up with him and took him into custody, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said Robert J. Day however on the way to the patrol car tried to escape, a struggle ensued in which he kicked and spit at the deputy prompting the use of a Taser. Day also threatened to kill the deputy if he didn’t remove the handcuffs, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Day was booked for first-degree assault and numerous related offenses. Four firearms were confiscated from his home, so he was also booked for unlawful possession of firearms because he is a convicted felon, according to Brown.

GREEN HILL EMPLOYEE ASSAULTED

• Chehalis police were called to Green Hill School about 7:20 p.m. yesterday because an inmate at the juvenile correctional facility allegedly assaulted a staff member. An investigation is underway, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The investigation found an 18-year-old resident used a home made knife – crafted from a piece of plastic – to try to stab an employee on his head, neck and chest area, according to Sgt. Gwen Carrell. The wounds were superficial, Carrell said. Carlos Avalos is facing a potential charge of first-degree assault, according to police.

CARS COLORED

• Several people awoke this morning at the 1400 block of Johnson Road in Centralia to discover someone had spray painted their vehicles during the night, according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers are investigating.

VEHICLE PROWL

• A camera was taken from a vehicle on the 800 block of South Silver Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 6:45 p.m. yesterday.

• Police took a report yesterday morning of a wallet being stolen from a vehicle on the 900 block of South Schueber Road in Centralia. It apparently occurred the day before.

DOG DISTRACTION

• A 26-year-old motorist found herself in the oncoming lane  yesterday afternoon after her dog jumped into her lap as she was traveling north at the 3000 block of Jackson Highway. Her Ford Taurus sideswiped a southbound Dodge Charger, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Neither driver was injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

BOATERS FOUND SAFE

• A pair of boaters were found safe at home in Tacoma after a search at Lake Scanewa southeast of Glenoma yesterday evening prompted by the find of a capsized boat. A resident on the lake spotted the overturned craft and took a boat to it to discover a life jacket floating underneath, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A cell phone found in a gear bag retrieved in the area led to a deputy tracking down its owner, via a Tacoma police officer, at the owner’s home. Two men, ages 21 and 22, said they had been on the lake earlier in the day and had to swim to shore when their boat overturned, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

BREAK-IN HAPPENS WHILE CHILDREN SLEEPING IN CHEHALIS HOME

• A Chehalis man called police just before 2 o’clock this morning after he got out of the shower and discovered a burglar in his living room. The tall thin individual in a hooded sweatshirt fled out a window and ran toward the post office, dropping the victim’s watch outside on the ground, according to the Chehalis Police Department. It happened on the 100 block of North Market Boulevard while the 40-year-old man’s children were asleep in the home, Sgt. Gwen Carrell said. The window had been left open, she said. “It’s becoming really common up north, burglaries where people are asleep,” Carrell said. “It’s a good reminder to lock windows and doors even if it’s warm out.” A camera and his wallet were taken. The man could not tell if the intruder was male or female but did notice a red circular design on the back of the person’s sweatshirt, according to Carrell.

BURGLARY

• Centralia police were called about 8:45 p.m. yesterday to an apartment on the 1300 block of North Pearl Street where a camera, a skate board a DVD player and some CDs were stolen.

DRUGS

• A 16-year-old boy was arrested at Centralia High School on the 800 block of Eshom Road yesterday morning for possession of marijuana and a warrant, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police.

FIRE BREAKS OUT NEAR TENINO

• A woman was checked by medics for smoke inhalation after a fire overnight that northwest of Tenino. Firefighters called just after 1 a.m. to the 800 block of 143rd Avenue Southeast found a 1000-square-foot shed and the fifth-wheel trailer inside of it fully involved in flames, according to West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. It ignited because of an unattended burn pile nearby, according to a spokesperson for the fire department.  The woman who was living in the fifth-wheel did not need to go to the hospital, Lt. Lanette Dyer said. Dyer said she did not know the extent of the damage to the structure or fifth-wheel.

HALF DOZEN VEHICLES WRECK ON I-5 NEAR GRAND MOUND

• Two individuals were transported with minor injuries after a six-car pileup on southbound Interstate 5 near the Grand Mound interchange this morning, according to West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. Lt. Lanette Dyer said in a news release crews responded about 8:25 a.m. The roadway was cleared by just after 9 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

LATE FOR WORK

• A trooper passed by a motorist going more than 110 mph on Interstate 5 near Grand Mound this morning caught up to him and was told the driver was late for work. It happened about 7:45 a.m. northbound near exit 88, according to Trooper Guy Gill. Gill said the trooper was on the shoulder picking up some debris when he heard the Acura Integra coming and got out his radar. The second time he clocked the car, it was traveling at 120 mph, Gill said. The 18-year-old Rochester man was arrested for reckless driving and booked into the Thurston County Jail. His car was impounded.

MAN DEAD AFTER MOTORCYCLE CRASH

• A 29-year-old motorcyclist is dead after he ran off state Route 706 in Elbe and hit a tree and a rock, according to the Washington State Patrol. Michael P. Anikusko, of Graham, was traveling west when he missed a curve near state Route 7 and went down an embankment, according to the state patrol. Troopers called just before 4 p.m. yesterday reported the cause of the crash is under investigation. Anikusko’s family reported him missing after he set out for a motorcycle ride on Monday and never returned home, according to Trooper Guy Gill. An individual out for a walk yesterday found him and his motorcycle over the embankment, according to Gill. The 2008 Suzuki GSXR750 was described as totaled.

DRUGS

• A 17-year-old boy was arrested at Centralia High School on the 800 block of Eshom Road yesterday morning for possession of marijuana and a warrant, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police.

• Two men were arrested separately by police in the Twin Cities yesterday for drug violations and booked into the Lewis County Jail. Further details were not readily available.

BAD TOUCHING

• Centralia police were contacted yesterday to investigate an elderly woman reportedly being “accosted” by a fellow resident at a convalescent home for Alzheimer’s patients on the 1500 block of Jensen Avenue. The case was referred to police by Adult Protective Services.

SUSPICIOUS MOTORIST

• Morton police were alerted to a suspicious vehicle in the area of the 800 block of Main Avenue at about 8:10 p.m. on Saturday. An officer found the suspicious driver had stopped to look at deer which were feeding in the area, according to the Morton Police Department.

UNDER SURVEILLANCE?

• Police were called just after 5 p.m. on Friday to the area of the 700 block of Main Avenue in Morton by an individual who thought a suspicious person in a car was spying on them. It turned out to be another local resident in a car reading a newspaper, according to the Morton Police Department.

DETECTIVES LOOKING FOR STOLEN GUNS

• Crime Stoppers of Lewis County is looking for information on the theft of eight firearms and other valuables from a burglary last month on the 1000 block of Highway 603 outside Chehalis. Someone broke into a residence sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 14 and took  a Bushmaster AR15, a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun, a Ruger 10-22 rifle, a semi-automatic Russian made .32 caliber pistol, a Ruger single six 22,  a Ruger Superhawk 44, a Ruger SP101 357 magnum handgun and a Beretta 9ZFS Brigadier 9 mm, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The losses which included a Dell computer, a 40-inch Samsung television and a Sony Blu-ray player is estimated at $8,700, according to the Crime Stoppers. The organization takes anonymous tips at 1-800-748-6422 and pays up to $1,000 for information leading to the clearance of crimes.

INTERRUPTED BURGLARY

• A deputy was called about 9 p.m. yesterday to the 100 block of Grimes Road in Centralia after a individual arrived home to find a male fleeing his residence. The 63-year-old victim gave chase but did not catch the subject, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Among the valuables missing were a 35 mm camera, three watches and $50 cash, the sheriff’s office said. The intruder was described as about 5-feet 10-inches tall with dark thinning hair and a scruffy beard, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

FIRE WOOD STOLEN

• Two to three cords of wood were reported stolen from the 500 block of East Pine Street in Centralia yesterday.

FRAUD

• Centralia police are investigating a possible identity theft in which an individual used someone else’s information to open a line of credit. A report was made yesterday afternoon from the 600 block of Byrd Street, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A Centralia officer took a report yesterday morning about possible fraud involving a bank account.

DOG TRACK OFF HIGHWAY 6

• A dog track was conducted after a deputy came upon a vehicle parked off Highway 6 and South Schueber Road for sale, with its four-way flashers on and its ignition damaged, around 1:25 a.m. today. As the deputy stopped to check, a man ran away south across the highway and into a field, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Around 7 o’clock this morning, a male matching the same clothing description was seen by an off-duty officer on the 1100 block of Highway 6, wet and walking out of a field, the sheriff’s office said. The man, Victor A. L. Whalen, 46, of Adna, was arrested for trespassing, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

HOVERCRAFT

• Police were called about 10:30 a.m. yesterday to Northeast Kresky Avenue and Hampe Way about a woman riding in a “hovercraft-type vehicle” on the side of the road. Further details were unavailable.
