THEFT, THEFT AND MORE THEFT

• A green plaster frog – approximately one foot tall – was stolen from a yard on the 2500 block of Fords Prairie Avenue in Centralia sometime between Friday and Saturday at mid-day,  according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called about 1:45 a.m. today for a burglary at a building on the 600 block of H Street. A window was broken to get inside, but it’s not known yet what, if anything, was stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Craftsman tools were reported stolen from a shed on the 100 block of West Chestnut Street in Centralia on Friday afternoon.

• Centralia police were called to the 1800 block of Beach Street about 2 p.m. on Friday regarding a report of the theft of unspecified medication from a home.

• Police were called about 10:30 a.m. yesterday to the 300 block of West Chestnut Street in Centralia where a vehicle was broken into. Nothing appeared to be taken,  according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called on Friday morning to the 700 block of B Street where they were told a woman’s Kindle was missing from her car after the vehicle had been repossessed and then returned.

KNIFE FIGHT IN CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called at 11:50 p.m. last night to a reported stabbing on the 1300 block of Windsor Avenue. The 17-year-old victim declined to go to the hospital and refused to give a statement, according to the Centralia Police Department. “It was basically a fight,” Sgt. Carl Buster said. “One guy pulled a knife, started swinging it and hit the other guys hand.” The other individual was gone and nobody would tell police who it was, he said.

FIGHT WITH BASEBALL BAT IN MORTON

• A 24-year-old man was arrested overnight for three counts of second-degree assault after a fight broke out at a home on the 100 block of Wood Avenue in Morton. Police called about 3:15 a.m. were told Joshua D. Woodward had come home after spending the evening at a local drinking establishment and his girlfriend told him to leave, according to the Morton Police Department. Woodward allegedly threatened her, her teenage son and the son’s girlfriend with a baseball bat, police Chief Dan Mortensen said. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

NURSING HOME SPAT

• Centralia police took a report of a misdemeanor assault between two patients yesterday morning at a nursing home on the 1300 block of Alexander Street. The case will be referred to prosecutors for possible charges, according to the Centralia Police Department.

NAPPING ON AIRPORT RUNWAY LEADS TO ARREST

• Police were summoned to the Centralia-Chehalis Airport about a woman laying on the runway, which prevented at least one plane from landing on Wednesday evening. The woman wouldn’t talk, but when asked what she was doing there, she motioned with her hands against her cheek to indicate she had been sleeping, according to Chehalis police.  She was arrested for trespassing and booked into the jail as Jane Doe, but a name was found inside an article of her clothing, Officer Linda Bailey said. Christy Fowler, 53, of Bellingham, was also arrested for obstruction, Bailey said.

STOLEN COMPUTER RECOVERED

• Centralia police arrested  a 33-year-old Oakville man early yesterday morning during a traffic stop when they found a stolen computer. Joshua S. Jacobs was stopped near West Summa and South Silver streets and then booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree possession of stolen property, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BAD $20 BILLS

• Centralia police were called to a motel on the 700 block of Harrison Avenue Wednesday where a customer had paid with what turned out to be a counterfeit $20 bill. She told officers she’d received the currency from a fruit stand in Rochester as change, but when they they went there, the vendor said it was the woman who passed bad bills to her, according to the Centralia Police Department. She was subsequently arrested by the Thurston County Sheriff’s office, according to police.

CAR PROWLS

• Centralia police remind the public not to leave valuables in their cars after a rash of vehicle prowls in the area around Borst Avenue. Officers on Wednesday took five reports of such incidents throughout the day, mostly from unlocked cars, according to police Sgt. Carl Buster. In one case a woman reported her purse was taken but someone had already found it in a garbage can and turned it into police, Buster said.

• A pair of sunglasses were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in front of a garage at the 1000 block of McKinley Lane in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 9:15 p.m. yesterday.

• Police were called about 9 o’clock last night after someone rummaged through an unlocked vehicle and stole two bicycles from a residence on the 3200 block of McKinley Lane in Centralia.

• A CD player and other items were missing from a vehicle parked at the 100 block of Railroad Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 11:30 a.m. yesterday.

• Chehalis police were called about 1:30 a.m. yesterday to the 1000 block of Grandview Avenue about a car prowl. A window was broken and a driver’s license and an ATM card were missing, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BOAT STOLEN FROM LAKE

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday a flat bottomed fiberglass boat was stolen from where it was moored at Mayfield Lake Park on the 100 block of Beach Road west of Mossyrock on Saturday. It was camo and black in color, according to the sheriff’s office.

HEAD STUCK IN WINDOW

• Firefighters were called to Diamond Street in Centralia where a 2-year-old boy had gotten his head stuck in a vehicle’s window after he hit power window button. By the time responders arrived, the window was down, Riverside Fire Authority Capt. Erik Olson said. “He was uninjured, but pretty rattled, I’m sure,” Olson said. It happened around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Olson.

POLICE: THREE ARRESTED WHEN CENTRALIA DRUG HOUSE SEARCHED

• Centralia police arrested three people yesterday afternoon at a residence on the 1000 block of Yakima Street following a month-long drug investigation. Police Sgt. Carl Buster said when detectives searched the home they found an unspecified amount of drugs. Arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for delivery of drugs were Fred Isaacson and Arthur Haller-Heilman, Buster said. The woman whose house it was, Kathy G. Challender, was arrested for maintaining a building for controlled substance purposes, according to Buster. The case involved methamphetamine, heroin and undercover purchases, according to police.

EMERGENCY LANDING IN HAYFIELD

• A small plane that lost power to its engine landed in a hayfield just south of Toledo airport yesterday afternoon, with no injury to the pilot and no damage to his Cessna 152, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said the 29-year-old pilot from Hillsboro, Ore., glided to the ground, landing in the area of the 5400 block of Jackson Highway shortly before 2:45 p.m.

TWO ARRESTED FOR STOLEN SUV

• A teenager who apparently escaped detection by a police dog looking for her overnight was spotted by an officer and arrested about 6 o’clock this morning in Chehalis. Ashley L. Earhardt, 18, was found in the area of Cascade Avenue and Southwest 11th Street, according to the Chehalis Police Department. She said she had been hiding in a bush when the dog and officer walked by her earlier, Officer Linda Bailey said. It began about 2:45 a.m. when a Chehalis officer observed a Ford Explorer covered in graffiti parked at Safeway on South Market Boulevard and learned the vehicle was stolen out of Port Angeles, according to Bailey. The occupants were ordered out at gunpoint, but Earhardt fled, according to Bailey. The other occupant, Nathan Terry, 23, was arrested and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, according to police. Earhardt was booked for the same offense this morning,  Bailey said. Both are from Port Angeles.

MAN HIT IN HEAD WITH RATCHET

• An 18-year-old Chehalis resident was arrested last night after allegedly beating another 18-year-old with a ratchet. Chehalis police called just before 8 p.m. were told the male victim was struck in the side of the face and on the forearm while at Ryan A. Emery’s home on the 500 block of Southwest William Avenue, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The victim went to the hospital, Officer Linda Bailey said. The incident was sparked by name calling, according to Bailey. Emery was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, according to police.

DUI ARRESTEE “ESCAPES” INSIDE JAIL

• A 36-year-old woman arrested for driving under the influence late yesterday afternoon in Fort Borst Park in Centralia found herself in more trouble after she reportedly slipped out of handcuffs while waiting to be booked at the jail and stepped into an elevator there. A staff member quickly locked the elevator and Janelle L. Butterfield was additionally booked for third-degree escape, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The handcuffs had been chained to a bench. The Port Hadlock woman said she was “only kidding around,” authorities said. She had allegedly backed over two wood posts at the park.

MAN WITH STICK

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office was called about 6:40 p.m. yesterday to Onalaska where a man reported a stranger walked onto his property, waving his arms and threatened to kill him. When the suspect picked up a two-foot long stick, the 51-year-old man went inside his house, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies discovered George A. Dillon, 44, of Des Moines, has walked to Brenda’s Market where he left his stick before returning to the property on the 1700 block of state Route 508. He was found in a camper there, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown, mumbling incoherently about hippos and peanut butter sandwiches. Brown said it is unknown why Dillon was in Onalaska, where he was staying or who he was with. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for felony harassment. Dillon, however, is to be released without charges pending further investigation.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report about 4:25 p.m. yesterday from the 1000 block of B Street about stolen jewelry.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a black Jeep Liberty was stolen from the 700 block of Winlock-Vader Road sometime between Friday and Monday. It had been left unlocked, according to the sheriff’s office. It has a license plate reading 464 WBD.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said they got a call last night that someone broke into a home on the 100 block of Galaxy Road in Chehalis on Monday sometime after 8:30 a.m. and left with a Playstation and $35 cash. A deputy subsequently concluded it was the victim’s ex-boyfriend, 26-year-old Tyler Geist, according to the sheriff’s office. Geist was already in jail, having been arrested yesterday afternoon after allegedly fleeing Wal-Mart with a pair of Dr. Scholes shoe inserts he shoplifted. He was re-booked with an additional offense of second-degree burglary, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

CAR PROWL

• Police were called about 2:45 p.m. yesterday to the 900 block of Spring Lane in Centralia about testing equipment stolen from a cable van.

• Centralia police were called about 10:20 p.m. yesterday to the 1200 block of North Gold Street when an individual observed somebody inside their truck parked in the front yard of a residence. Arriving officers found a 47-year-old Seattle man sitting in the driver’s seat and arrested him for vehicle prowl as well as trespass, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police think he was trying to steal a pair of boots. David W. M. Humbalt was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police took a report of graffiti on a business on the 800 block of North Tower Avenue yesterday morning.

• Chehalis police took a report about 8 o’clock yesterday morning of a blue Swastika painted on the backdoor of Napa Auto parts on South Market Boulevard.

PUDDLE OF BLOOD

• Chehalis police were called about 7 o’clock this morning after a business owner found small pools of blood and droplets on the patio sidewalk outside his business. An officer went to the location on the 100 block of Northeast School Street and could not determine what occurred, according to the Chehalis Police Department. A check indicated there had been no 911 calls in the area, Officer Linda Bailey said.

WRECK

• A 24-year-old Chehalis man was hospitalized after his motorcycle took out several mailboxes at a sharp curve on the 300 block of Coal Creek Road in Chehalis and then both bike and rider came to rest in a ditch on the opposite side of the road yesterday afternoon. A deputy who arrived to the area about 1 p.m. were told the Honda 1100’s foot peg had touched the ground, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The man had a possible back injury, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

GO, GO, GO!

• Chehalis police chased down a group of individuals who fled after one of them allegedly fought with security personnel trying to hold on to the Dr. Scholes shoe inserts he shoplifted from Wal-Mart yesterday afternoon. It happened about 2:40 p.m. when the suspect hopped into a vehicle and they all began shouting, “Go, go, go,” according to police Sgt. Gwen Carrell. The female driver headed to the Twin City Town Center where she parked and all four bodies scattered to the wind, Carrell said. Carrell said she believed one woman was caught running towards K-Mart, another over on Louisiana Avenue and Tyler Geist, 26, of Centralia, was found behind the building. Geist was arrested and booked for second-degree robbery, Carrell said; robbery instead of misdemeanor theft because he struggled with a store employee. Rosa M. Sanchez-Anderson, 21, of Chehalis was arrested for a warrant plus obstruction and Desiree Prue, 30, of Centralia, was arrested for a warrant, according to police. It happened at shift change, so there were twice as many officers as usual out and about, according to Carrell.

UNSAVORY FRIENDS?

• Chehalis police were called to a residence on Southwest Pacific Avenue late Saturday afternoon where a woman reported her laptop computer and money were missing. The victim said other items had disappeared as well, such as five silver rings as well as a white gold ring with a purple stone, according to the Chehalis Police Department. “She doesn’t know if it’s the company she keeps or someone is breaking in,” police Sgt. Gwen Carrell said.

BURGLED IN WINLOCK

• A deputy took a report last night of a burglary at the 800 block of King Road in Winlock. Two metal detectors with headsets and a camera tri-pod went missing from just inside a sliding glass door sometime between Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

PAIN MED THEFT

• Centralia police were called to the 1000 block of Centralia Avenue on Sunday about Oxycontin pills stolen from an individual.

FRAUD

• Centralia police took a report of unauthorized charges to an individual’s credit card on Sunday afternoon from a person at the 1000 block of Scammon Creek Road.

YOU CAN RUN, BUT SO CAN LOBO

• Police responding to a night time call about a prowler seen on a roof in the area of St. Joseph Church in Chehalis early yesterday morning subsequently caught up to a 29-year-old Centralia man wanted on an outstanding warrant. It happened just after 1 a.m. around Southwest Cascade Avenue. Russell E. Charnell reportedly ran from Centralia Officer Ruben Ramirez but was apprehended by Ramirez’s K-9 partner Lobo as he tried to jump a fence into someone’s yard, according to police. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME …

• A business on the 100 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia called police about 11 p.m. last night following the discovery it had accepted a phony $20 bill from a female customer whose first name is known to them.

PARK PRANKS

• Police took a report of vandalism at the skate park on the 700 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia yesterday morning. Several signs were pulled up, bushes damaged and graffiti left there, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR GONE

• Centralia police took a report of a blue Honda missing from the 2800 block of Russell Road in Centralia at about 4:30 a.m. yesterday.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Two power drills were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Southwest 20th Street in Chehalis sometime between Saturday night and Sunday, according to police.

READY-TO-GO CAMPING KIT

• Police were called just before 10 a.m. on Saturday to the Best Western motel on Southwest Interstate Avenue in Chehalis where a bunch of camping gear was stolen from the the back of a canopied truck. A window was broken, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Among the missing items were a Coleman stove, an orange backpack with clothing in it, two Marmot sleeping bags and an REI orange and white dome tent, according to police.

CAR PROWL CENTRAL

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said today people should just not leave their cars parked around the 200 block of Highway 603 near the Rails to Trails trailhead. It’s an area that car prowlers target, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. A deputy was called last night by a man who said broke a window out of his Hyundai while his son was winning there. Missing is a cell phone, a key and a iPod with charger, Brown said.

THREAT TO KILL AND OVERDOSE

• Centralia police spent more than a half hour yesterday morning trying to talk a barricaded subject out of his bedroom on the 600 block of South Rock Street. The 44-year-old man had allegedly attempted to kill his brother with a knife, and also taken an overdose of pain medication, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police Sgt. Carl Buster said the brother had locked himself in a bathroom and escaped out the window. An officer was able to get in his room to talk further, and the man was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to police. Police are referring the case to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for a possible charge of first-degree assault.

BURNING BUG, SUV

• A Dodge Dakota SUV and an older VW bug burnt up yesterday morning inside the fenced property at Prairie Storage on the 100 block of Washington Way in Centralia. Riverside Fire Authority called about 9:50 a.m. found one vehicle fully involved in flames spreading to the second vehicle, according to Fire Chief Jim Walkowski. It was a challenge to put out because the fire was behind a locked security fence, according to Walkowski. The cause is under investigation but not suspicious, Walkowski said.

FIREWORKS GO OFF INSIDE VEHICLE

• Centralia police say a juvenile was arrested yesterday afternoon after he allegedly lit a bottle rocket and tossed it into the backseat of a vehicle in connection with an address on the 100 block of East Bridge Street.

HIT AND RUN TO GAS PUMP

• Centralia police were contacted just before 11 a.m. yesterday about a vehicle that struck a gas pump and then left at the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue. Riverside Fire Authority said it caused a small leak.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report about 11:20 p.m. yesterday that foreign currency was stolen from a residence on the 1400 block of View Avenue. Missing are about 70 Euro and 60 “Kroation” dollars, as well as several watches, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police reported this morning that several “swards” were stolen from a residence on the 400 block of South Silver Street while the owner was out.

• Tools were stolen from a shop on the 2500 block of Howard Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police Friday afternoon.

• Four individuals were arrested for occupying an unfit building after police found them at the 700 block of West Main Street in Centralia on Friday evening. Among them: Shannon R. West, 29, of Ethel; Briana L. Corrothers, 22, of Centralia and Darcie N. Negrete, 20, of Centralia. Ruslan Y. Bezhenar, 33, of Centralia, was also arrested and booked for felony harassment and intimidating a public servant, according to the Centralia Police Department. They were caught after a witness spotted an individual climbing a water drain to get inside the building, according to police.

CENTRALIA MAN PICKED UP FOR IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES

• Centralia police said a 22-year-old Centralia resident was arrested about 7:40 a.m. yesterday at state Route 507 and Big Hanaford Road for an “immigration hold.” Cesar Galvin-Venegas was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

KIDS LOCK SELVES IN BEDROOM DURING BREAK-IN

• Deputies were called to a home south of Adna yesterday when someone broke into a house where three children were home alone. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said a 13-year-old boy babysitting his two younger siblings led the children into a bedroom, locked the door and called his mother who phoned 911 about 12:35 p.m. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said the children had seen a red van and a man in the driveway and then heard banging and slamming on the door. Their dog was barking, the teen heard footsteps inside the house, Brown said. It was on the 200 block of Penning Road. They never actually encountered each other and for whatever reason, the intruder left, according to Brown. An arriving deputy stopped a red van on the 100 block of Penning Road and found a woman with a crowbar, according to the sheriff’s office. The house was cleared and the children found safe and unharmed. A dog track was conducted, but no one else was located. A door to the home had been forced open and nothing initially appeared to be missing, according to Brown. Deputies suspect it may be the same red van seen at a home burglary on the 200 block of Brockway Road in Adna earlier this week, she said. Darlene J. Lockard, 50, of Olympia, was arrested for attempted residential burglary, as well as possession of methamphetamine and a pipe, according to the sheriff’s office. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

RV PARK RESIDENT: WOKE UP TO MAN SITTING ON BED

• Deputies and troopers responded about 8:15 p.m. yesterday to the 2900 block of U.S. Highway 12 in Silver Creek to reports of a man carrying a large knife walking through an RV park, making threats and claiming hundreds of people were after him. Clarence R. Coleman, 60, of Silver Creek, was taken into custody, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. One couple said they had awoken that morning and found Coleman sitting on their bed mumbling about people trying to get him, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Coleman was arrested for brandishing a weapon and first-degree trespass and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office. He denied entering anyone’s trailer, Brown said.

UNCOOPERATIVE MAN WITH KNIFE

• Centralia police called to an address on the 1300 block of Logan Street last night about an individual banging on doors and trying to get in found a man outside with a cut on his arm and the bloody tip of a knife sticking out of his pocket, according to the Centralia Police Department. Sgt. Stacy Denham said they ended up using their Taser on him because he wouldn’t obey officers who tried to detain him. Denham said he didn’t know if the people inside knew Hever Rodan Escalante or not. The 26-year-old Escalante, who must have only cut himself, was arrested and booked for obstructing a public servant, according to Denham.

ONLINE TRICKSTER TAKES ONALASKA RESIDENT FOR OVER $2,000

• A 27-year-old Onalaska man was ripped off in a classic scam in which a buyer he met online claimed he accidentally paid with a check written for too much money and asked the seller to wire him the difference. Of course the check turns out to be bad. A deputy contacted the victim on Wednesday who said he’d sold a motor for $500 through Craigslist and the purchaser sent him a check for $2,800, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The buyer then told him his secretary mistakenly filled in the wrong amount, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim said his account showed the check cleared on July 7 and the following day he wired the difference to Kentucky, to the man who called himself Steven Mack, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. On Wednesday however, the victim learned the check had been written on a closed account, Brown said. The engine, however, never got shipped to the buyer.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ASSAULT

• Police were called just before 3 o’clock this morning to the 100 block of Cedar Street in Centralia where a 40-year-old man allegedly choked his girlfriend during an altercation. Michael Watkins, 40, of Centralia was arrested for second-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

MOTORIST PROPOSITIONS PANHANDLER

• Police were called about 11:35 a.m. yesterday to the off ramp at Interstate 5 and Harrision Avenue in Centralia when a man held out a dollar to a woman there asking for money, propositioned her and was exposing himself, according to the Centralia Police Department.

STOLEN VEHICLE FOUND

• A truck reported stolen in Thurston County a week ago was found yesterday parked and unoccupied at the 700 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia.

DRUGS

• Two individuals were arrested about 11 a.m. yesterday at a motel on the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue in Chehalis, one for warrants and both for drugs, according to police. Centralia police say Kari N. Driver, 24, of Chehalis was arrested for possession of heroin and Ryan L. Lester, 32, of Rochester, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and multiple warrants.

GAS CAN DRAGGED BENEATH CAR

• A woman traveling down Interstate 5 through Chehalis yesterday afternoon ran over a gas can laying on the road which was left wedged in the undercarriage of her car, according to Lewis County Fire District 6. Firefighters stood by where she pulled over near milepost 75, and a tow truck lifted the vehicle, Firefighter Mike Goodwillie said. His partner used a tool to retrieve the can which Goodwillie was told had been full when she hit it, but lost its contents as it was dragged.

GRASS FIRE

• A spark from a golf cart being driven by kids ignited a grass fire on the 3000 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia yesterday. Firefighters called about 4 p.m. found the dad using a garden hose, according to Riverside Fire Authority Capt. Ken Colombo. It spread to about 50 feet by 100 feet and was extinguished by the fire department, Colombo said. CAR VERSUS BIKE

• Police and aid were called about 3:45 p.m. yesterday to an incident in Centralia where the license plate on a car pulling out of an alley slashed the ankle of a woman passing on a bicycle. It happened near West Main Street and Tower Avenue. The 22-year-old was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to Riverside Fire Authority. The driver was not cited, police noted.

TWO HOSPITALIZED AFTER OFF-ROAD ACCIDENT

• A 47-year-old man was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a punctured lung after a dune buggy type vehicle wrecked in Randle last night. The driver was taken to Morton General Hospital with multiple bruises, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers called about 9:30 p.m. to a hay field off the 1000 block of Cline Road learned the Polaris ORV rolled onto its side after striking a pothole. The passenger, James E. Townsend, 47, of North bend, was ejected, according to the state patrol. The driver was Dean A. Roberts, 50, of Mount Vernon.

FIRE BREAKS OUT, BURNS OUT IN BOISTFORT HOME

• The cause of a fire that consumed an entire room in a Boistfort area home is under investigation. A resident of the 400 block of Moon Hill Road arrived home, opened the door to the single-wide mobile home and saw smoke, according to Lewis County Fire District 13. He closed the door and called 911, Fire Chief Gregg Peterson said. When the fire department arrived, however, while the room used for storage was charred, it had burned itself out, he said. It happened on Wednesday evening while the residents were away for a few hours. Peterson said smoke caused damage through the rest of the home.

FOOT PURSUIT PLUS DOG CATCH WANTED GUY

• Centralia police and K-9 Kayo were looking for a wanted subject around 11 p.m. last night in the area of the 300 block of North Gold Street, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police say Galen R. Whitmore, 20, of Centralia, fled from officers and jumped several fences before Kayo caught him with his teeth. Whitmore was booked into the Lewis County Jail,  according to police. The jail roster indicates he was wanted by the state Department of Corrections and also for failing to appear in court related to third-degree driving with a suspended license.

INTRUDER STEALS FROM ADNA AREA HOME

• Deputies are looking for a newer red mini van seen at a home burglary on the 200 block of Brockway Road west of Chehalis yesterday between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The 68-year-old resident arrived home just before 4 p.m. and found a side door kicked in and found indications someone had rifled through a bedroom, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The dollar loss is as yet unknown, but someone went through documents and jewelry boxes, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

REFRIGERATOR MISSING

• Centralia police say an unknown person stole a refrigerator from a rummage sale on the 500 block of North Tower Avenue. The responding officer noted it is a brown Frigidaire brand.

TOOLS TAKEN

• Police were called just after 8 a.m. yesterday when a Chehalis man woke up to find his garage door open on the 100 block of Northeast Terrace Road. Sometime after 10 o’clock the night before someone went inside and stole a tool box with various tools including four trays of bright orange Craftsman sockets, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

SUSPICIOUS CHECK LEADS TO STOLEN WALLET

• Chehalis police said today a search of a car impounded last week turned up a wallet belonging to a 47-year-old Tumwater woman who recalled getting bumped by a man while she shopped at Staples in Chehalis. The incident led police to refer the case involving Korey E. Cleveland, 43, of Tenino, for a charge of second-degree possession of stolen property, Sgt. Gwen Carrell said. Cleveland was detained last Thursday after leaving a saw shop on State Avenue in Chehalis, when employees became suspicious a check he was attempting to use to buy about $1,000 of goods might be stolen, according to Chehalis police. Because a shotgun was found when he was pulled over and he is not allowed to possess firearms, he was arrested and jailed and his vehicle was impounded, Carrell said. The Thurston County resident to whom the check belonged declined to pursue any charges, Carrell said.

FRAUD

• A 38-year-old Toledo area woman called the sheriff’s office yesterday to report someone in the Washington DC area used her bank card information on Friday to make an online purchase of $133 from the U.S. Postal Service, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Centralia police took a report late yesterday afternoon about stolen checks and subsequent forgeries from the 1600 block of Pike Street. They are investigating, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Police were called just after 5:15 p.m. yesterday about a vehicle prowl on the 2600 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia. Just a half hour earlier, the same officer took another report of a prowl in the same area, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 2:25 p.m. yesterday about a vehicle prowl on the 300 block of Northeast Adams Avenue. Taken were sunglasses, keys and some money, according to police. The victim said a neighbor’s vehicle had been prowled as well, Sgt. Gwen Carrell said.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called to a repeat tire slashing yesterday afternoon at the 600 block of E Street in Centralia.

• Police were called about 10:30 a.m. yesterday to the 100 block of Southwest Eighth Street in Chehalis when a resident found the rear passenger window to his truck broken. It seemed a beer bottle had been thrown at it, possibly from the alley nearby where arguing had been heard, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
