‘I SEE YOU’

• A sheriff’s detective driving by the Handi Mart on Kerron Avenue in Winlock yesterday morning stopped when he spotted an individual on a mountain bike making repeated brief contacts with people in cars in the parking lot. The detective observed for awhile because numerous complaints have been received over the past few months about suspected drug dealing there, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. When the man motioned for one motorist to follow him up the street and the detective saw some kind of exchange, he contacted the bicyclist, Christopher W. Shope, 47, Winlock, and arrested him for possession of methamphetamine, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Shope denied selling drugs but admitted he had about $20 worth of meth with him, Brown said. Shope was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

ASSAULT WITH WOODEN ROD

• A 49-year-old Centralia man was arrested for second degree assault yesterday morning after he allegedly threatened to strike family members with a wooden closet rod. Keith A. Smith was booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with an officer about 8:20 p.m. at the 1400 block of Johnson Road in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ONE DOWN, ONE TO GO

• A woman wanted for hit and run for allegedly colliding with some mailboxes on the 1400 block of Centralia-Alpha Road as her boyfriend fled an alleged assault on Tuesday was arrested when she was spotted at Dennys in Chehalis last night. Raelynn D. Gonzales said she didn’t know where Mitchell W. Sinclair was, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail. He is wanted for allegedly striking a woman in the head and face with a steel bar.

THE GOOD STUFF IS GONE

• An empty purse found on a piece of equipment at a business on the 600 block of Northwest State Street in Chehalis was turned into the police department yesterday. The brown handbag discovered with an empty blue cloth lunch bag had no name or anything inside of it, according to police.

DEER WRECK

• A 37-year-old Castle Rock woman escaped serious injury when she swerved to miss a deer, crossed over the center lane and hit a guard rail before heading down an embankment. It happened about 8 p.m. yesterday on the 1000 block of Jackson Highway South near Toledo, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Her vehicle sustained major damage and she was cited for wheels off the roadway because her attempt to avoid the deer was unsafe, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

CHIMNEY FIRE

• Firefighters were called just before 7 p.m. yesterday to a fire on Vine Street in Napavine found five-foot high flames coming from a chimney. It was extinguished before it spread to the structure, according to Lewis County Fire District 5. Firefighter Brad Bozarth said its a good time for folks to get their chimneys cleaned if they haven’t already done so. This one was cleaned last year, but not very well, he said.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

• Four firefighters from West Thurston Regional Fire Authority traveled to Mason County last night to assist with a wild fire that  has burned about 150 acres. Fire Chief Robert Scott reminds folks there is a red flag alert in place in parts of Western Washington because weather conditions are ripe for fires. The (Tacoma) News Tribune reports the blaze near Shelton threatened about 100 structures when it began yesterday but 100 firefighters who worked through the night have it 30 percent contained.

NINTENDO STOLEN

• Centralia police were called to  home on the 500 block of Prairie Rose Street just after 6 p.m. yesterday about a Nintendo which had been stolen.

PAPER RACK VANISHES

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a deputy was called about the theft of a newspaper dispenser from a gas station on the 2900 block of U.S. Highway 12 in Silver Creek. It is believed to have been taken sometime between Sunday and Monday and is valued at $600, according to the sheriff’s office.

ANGRY GRANDMA INVESTIGATED

• Police were called to Chehalis Middle School about 3:40 p.m. yesterday when a staff member said they witnessed a grandmother pull her granddaughter by the hair and slap her repeatedly. An officer requested security video footage and is following up, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DRUGS, DRUGS AND MORE DRUGS

• A 20-year-old Centralia woman arrested yesterday for a garage burglary that occurred in Centralia last year was found with a variety of suspected drugs including heroin, methamphetamine and pills, according to police. An officer spotted Chelsea R. Hensley walking along the 1500 block of North Pearl Street about 3 p.m. and took her into custody, according to the Centralia Police Department. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

THAT’S A FUNNY LOOKING BABY

• Two women were arrested after they were discovered with a small amount of stolen scrap metal tucked inside a baby stroller at the old Mickelsen Dairy Farm on the 200 block of Military Road in Winlock yesterday. A man staying at the property told a deputy he arrived to a pick up a tractor and saw one woman standing there who immediately got onto her cell phone, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. He asked the other woman what was beneath the blanket in the stroller and she removed the blanket confessing she had taken the steel pipe, wire fence clips and a battery, according to the sheriff’s office. The women fled before a deputy arrived, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. One was locate hiding in brush behind Winlock High School and the other was found walking along the roadway, Brown said. Alicia J. Gullickson, 39, of Napavine and Tamar Adamson, 36, of Toledo, both had warrants and were booked into the Lewis County Jail for misdemeanor theft and trespassing, according to Brown. The scrap was valued at $20.

DOG SAVES WOMAN FROM ATTACKER

• Deputies were called to the 1400 block of Centralia-Alpha Road east of Chehalis about 5 p.m. yesterday where a man allegedly threatened to kill a 37-year-old woman and hit her in the face with a steel bar before her dog attacked him ending the assault.

The sheriff’s office is looking for Mitchell W. Sinclair, 44, of Chehalis. Deputies were told Sinclair was returning a van to her home when she told him her boyfriend didn’t want him on the property anymore. Sinclair allegedly got angry struck her, knocking her into some panes of glass propped against a car and struck her again as she was on the ground, according to the sheriff’s office. The Blue Heeler-Labrador-Dalmatian-mix canine intervened and Sinclair fled in the van, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. A 46-year-old woman driving the man struck a neighbor’s mailbox as they left, Brown said. Sinclair is wanted for first-degree assault and harassment. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Sinclair or his girlfriend – Raelynn D. Gonzales – to call Lewis County Crime Stoppers.

ANGRY GIRLFRIEND BOOKED FOR BASEBALL BAT ASSAULT

• A 48-year-old woman was arrested yesterday after she allegedly went to the home of a woman she thought was “making moves on her boyfriend” and assaulted her with a baseball bat. A deputy called about 9 p.m. was told Kimberly A. Kaleta, of Chehalis, arrived at the residence on the 100 block of Katula Road west of Chehalis uninvited and shoved the 35-year-old woman against a wall, grabbed her hair and hit her with the bat, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Kaleta was contacted at her home on Beam Road and booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree assault, as well as misdemeanor theft for taking the bat, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

THREAT WITH KNIFE LANDS MAN IN JAIL

• A 22-year-old Centralia man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he allegedly threw a drinking glass at his younger sister and then threatened her and her boyfriend with a knife. Officers called about 3:30 p.m. to their home on the 1100 block of South Tower Avenue took Aaron R. Gange into custody and booked him into the Lewis County Jail for two counts of second-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VEHICLE VANDALIZED

• Chehalis police were called about 9:35 a.m. yesterday to the 100 block of Northeast Division Street where a woman said someone tagged her 22-year-old son’s vehicle with blue paint and broke out its windows.

WOMAN TAKEN FOR $175 “REPAIR”

• A woman called Centralia police yesterday after she paid $175 to a stranger who approached her in the parking lot of of a grocery store and offered to repair a dent in her car. The man who said his name was Al “kind of scuffed the paint and then sprayed it with spray paint,”  Centralia Police Department Sgt. Kurt Reichert said. He had told the woman she only needed to later wipe off the “protective spray” but it was paint, according to Reichert.

CAR PROWL

• Chehalis police took a report just after 5 p.m. yesterday of a car prowl in the park and ride lot near Main Street and Interstate 5. A window was smashed out and a purse stolen, according to police. The victim later got a call from someone who said they found her credit card and driver’s permit in the area of Southwest McFadden Avenue and 10th Street, Officer Linda Bailey said.

OOPS

• Police were called about 5:15 p.m. yesterday to a business on the 400 block of North Market Boulevard after a 39-year-old woman horsing around with friends on the sidewalk stumbled and fell through the back window. They left but an officer contacted the woman at the hospital who had cut her arm and she agreed to pay for the window, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

FRAUD INVESTIGATION

• Chehalis police are attempting to contact an out-of-state man after his grandson called on Monday and said the grandfather had sent a Chehalis woman $21,000, worrying about a possible scam.

UNRULY PEOPLE

• Centralia police say a 30-year-old man detained for allegedly violating a protection order lied about his name and slipped out of his handcuffs last night at the 300 block of South Tower Avenue. Ryan M. Strayer, a homeless person, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for obstructing, making a false statement and the original violation after contact with officers about 11:40 p.m., according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police arrested a 43-year-old woman about 11:20 a.m. yesterday for obstructing a public servant after she allegedly refused to identify herself to an officer and resisted being taken into custody, according to the Centralia Police Department. Lisa L. Hanson-Rosumny, of Tumwater, was contacted on the 500 block of Harrison Avenue when store employees said they saw her placing items in her purse, according to police. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

• A 41-year-old Centralia man was arrested for felony harassment and a warrant after contact with police just before 8 a.m. yesterday at the 200 block of North Buckner Street in Centralia. Joseph O. Bingham was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report about 9:30 a.m. yesterday about the theft of change and a hat from an unlocked residence on the 1700 block of Providence Lane.

FIRE FIGURED OUT

• A blaze that destroyed two fifth-wheel trailers south of Chehalis on Sunday morning appeared to accidental, according to the fire investigator. The Oregon man who owns the recreational property on the 100 block of Elot Drive had been working on an ATV and left it parked beneath one of the trailers, according to Fire Investigator Jay Birley. Either the battery charger or the battery caught fire and spread to the fifth-wheel, then the ATV and then the other fifth-wheel parked next to it, Birley said.

DEATH AT MOUNT RANIER LOOKOUT RULED SUICIDE

• The woman whose body was found at the foot of a cliff in  the southern part of Mount Rainier National Park last week has been identified as a 52-year-old who resides at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, according to the Lewis County Coroner’s Office. Park officials located the body a week ago Monday below Ricksecker Point, a dramatic lookout between Longmire and Paradise. Her injuries were described as consistent with a fall from a great height. She’s the wife of an active duty military member and her death was determined to be suicide, Coroner Warren McLeod said.

• A 47-year-old man was arrested for allegedly biting and choking his wife after she flagged down an officer in a parking lot on the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia about 6 p.m. yesterday. Thomas J. Roman, of Lynnwood, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department. The victim – who had teeth marks on her arm – was taken to the hospital, according to police.

• A 56-year-old Glenoma man was cited after his dog reportedly bit a 48-year-old jogger between the legs yesterday sending her to Morton General Hospital. A deputy called to the emergency room about 11 a.m. was told it happened on the 8100 block of U.S. Highway 12, and was a large dog that appeared to be a mix between a Chow and a Mastiff, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s office. The owner, Duane Stump, had been visiting at the location, according to the sheriff’s office.

ROAD RAGE

• Centralia police took a report from a Winlock couple in their mid-50s yesterday afternoon that as they were driving on North Gold Street a motorist began tailgating them and pointed a gun at them. The suspect was described as a male with a shaved head driving a green or black two-door Honda, according to the Centralia Police Department.

OTHER RAGE

• A 47-year-old Chehalis man put in the back of a patrol car when officers responded to a dispute in a Centralia trailer park yesterday evening kicked out a window and three officers sustained minor cuts during the ensuing altercation with him, according to police. It happened about 6 p.m. at the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia, according to police. Joseph F. Sanchez was booked into the Lewis County jail for malicious mischief and third-degree assault, according to police Sgt. Kurt Reichert.

• A Lewis County Jail inmate is in trouble for suspected malicious mischief after he allegedly threw a mop bucket at a video visitation kiosk in the jail on Saturday morning, as well as reportedly broke in half an electrical cord belonging to another inmate’s oxygen purifying machine. Luke U. Hall, 30, of Onalaska, was booked early last month after allegedly trying to crash his Jeep through a neighbor’s house, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

GROCERIES PILFERED

• Someone got into a residence on the 200 block of Quiet Acres Drive in Onalaska and stole hamburger, rice, cereal, chicken   nuggets, french fries, hash browns, a roast, potatoes, pizza and beer, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened sometime between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. There are no suspects, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

VEHICLE THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday to the 1100 block of South Pearl Street where a black Honda Civic was reported stolen. It has gold wheels, a pink sticker in its rear window and a license plate reading 763 YAS, according to the Centralia Police Department. It was last seen about 5 p.m. the evening before, according to police.

• A 29-year-old woman found in a pickup truck that didn’t belong to her about 8:45 p.m. yesterday on the 1800 block of Van Wormer Street was arrested for attempted vehicle theft. A deputy who contacted Krista R. Cate noted she had the window down, the music on and was acting very odd. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A primer red flatbed truck with a hot tub in the back was reported stolen on Saturday morning from the 4000 block of Harrison Avenue outside Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. t is 1974 Ford F350, according to the sheriff’s office. It was taken sometime after 9:30 p.m. the day before, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

CONCESSION THEFTS

• Three young males are in trouble after teachers identified their images from surveillance video stealing boxes containing $300 worth of concession candy from the metal shop at Toledo High School on Saturday night. A 20-year-old Winlock man was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary and the cases of a 16-year-old and 17-year-old from Toledo will be recommended for charges, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s office. The intruders were seen using a key to get through locked doors, according to the sheriff’s office. The 20-year-old is to be released without charges pending further investigation.

• A camera was stolen from a concession stand on the 900 block of Johnson Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday afternoon. A door had been left open, according to the Centralia Police Department.

OTHER THEFT

• A 17-year-old Centralia boy was arrested yesterday for alleged involvement in a burglary to a garage on Thursday at the 800 block of State Street in Centralia. A neighbor spotted three individuals taking various car parts totaling almost $1,200, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Centralia police took a report about 5:20 a.m. today of an attempted break-in at a building on the 700 block of West Main Street.

• A one hundred foot long garden hose was reported stolen from the 800 block of Elm Street in Centralia on Friday morning, according to police.

• Chehalis police were called to the 300 block of Hillside Lane on Friday night by a woman who handed over a two-way radio in a search and rescue bag she said she thought was stolen and had been left at the residence by a friend.

• Chehalis police were called Friday afternoon to Northwest North Street about stolen mail.

FUNNY MONEY

• An officer was called about 4:10 a.m. Saturday about a customer allegedly passing a fake $10 bill at a gas station on the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue in Chehalis.

• Chehalis police were called about 7 p.m. on Friday after a customer presented a counterfeit $50 bill at a grocery store on the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The customer paid with different cash but kept the bill and left, according to the Chehalis Police Department,.

DRUGS

• A 22-year-old Olympia man was arrested for possession of heroin following a traffic stop on the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue about 6:50 p.m. yesterday. A police dog sniffed out suspected drugs and Mitchell D. Davidson-Link was booked into the lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 48-year-old Rochester man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine on Saturday afternoon at the 500 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia. Jeffrey Marchell was booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with an officer about 3:15 p.m., according to the Centralia Police Department.

RVS BURN

• A fire that destroyed a pair of fifth-wheel trailers yesterday morning south of Chehalis is under investigation. Lewis County Fire District 5 was called about 8:30 a.m. to the 100 block of Elot Drive southeast of U.S. Highway 12 and Interstate 5 found the pair of recreational vehicles burning, according to spokesperson Lt. Laura Hanson. An ATV between them was ruined as well, according to Hanson.

SOUTH POINT FIRE STILL SMOKEY

• The forest fire burning south of Packwood put up more smoke yesterday because of warm weather but the fire behavior remains moderate, according to Gifford Pinchot National Forest spokesperson Ken Sandusky. The Forest Service continues to monitor the fire which is on a ridge called South Point about 10 miles south of U.S. Highway 12, Sandusky said in a news release this morning. It has been mapped at 101 acres, he stated.

RUN, RUN, RUN … RUN AWAY

• Centralia police were called about 2:35 p.m. yesterday to the 1600 block of South Gold Street and a report store employees were chasing a shoplifter who disappeared in the area of the bowling alley. A search by police and deputies turned up a suspect hiding in some bushes, according to the Centralia Police Department. Matthew D. Christensen, 20, of Centralia, was arrested for shoplifting and an outstanding warrant and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

SCHOOL BUS HIT IN CENTRALIA

• Police and aid were called about 12:20 p.m. yesterday when a vehicle rear ended a school bus on the 3400 block of Galvin Road in Centralia. It happened at slow speed and no students were injured, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 27-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of heroin and an outstanding warrant about 9:30 a.m. yesterday in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue in Centralia, according to police. Zachary W. Gallagher was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

LEAKING LIQUID DRAWS LARGE RESPONSE TO STORAGE BUSINESS

• Firefighters, police and responders from the state Department of Ecology and the county health department converged on a storage unit business in Centralia yesterday where a suspicious red liquid was discovered leaking from one unit. Riverside Fire Authority personnel were on the scene at the 300 block of West Reynolds Avenue about four hours while the substance was evaluated and people kept away, according to Fire Chief Jim Walkowski. The chief said it was probably less than five gallons that spilled inside and outside the unit and smelled of petroleum. Exactly what it was isn’t known but police contacted the renter of the unit who said it was part of a tea making process, Walkowski said. There were chemicals being stored inside the unit that shouldn’t have been however, he said.

WRECK

• Two cars were totaled when a 16-year-old Winlock girl neglected to stop on Military Road before entering state Route 505 in Winlock yesterday evening. Troopers called to the scene about 5:35 p.m. said Kayleigh D. Anderson was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital and a 71-year-old Olympia man in the second vehicle was unhurt. The teenager was cited for second-degree negligent driving, according to the Washington State Patrol

LAUREL HEDGE GOES UP IN FLAMES

• Firefighters were called to Westside Drive on the hillside in Chehalis about 9 o’clock last night to reports of flames rising 20 to 25 feet high above a hedge. The property owner told firefighters there had been work trucks in the area and one had been idling nearby for quite awhile, leading them to speculate if a cigarette might have been to blame, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

BURGLARY

• Police responded to a burglary on the 500 block of South Silver Street in Centralia about 2:10 p.m. yesterday. Missing are some video games and computer-related items, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called about 4:45 p.m. yesterday to a residence on 1000 block of Scammon Creek Road in which it appeared someone had broken in and disturbed things inside but stole nothing.

• A deputy took a report yesterday from the 100 block of Leonard Road in Onalaska where a resident advised sometime between Sunday and Wednesday someone stole her Stihl MS250 chainsaw.

HIT AND RUN ARREST

• Centralia police arrested a 35-year-old Centralia driver after an approximately 11:15 p.m. incident yesterday in which he allegedly struck a vehicle in the area of the 600 block of South Pearl Street and then parked and walked away. Pedro Saucedo-Chavez was located several blocks away and booked into the Lewis County Jail for hit and run as well as a warrant, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• Centralia police arrested a 22-year-old Chehalis resident about 4:45 a.m. today at the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue. Shaina K. Campbell was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. William G. Fultz-Valenta, 24, of Grand Mound as arrested at the same time for an outstanding warrant, according to police.

WRECK

• Centralia police said a bicycle rider suffered a hand injury when they fell off their bicycle after its back tire was struck by a vehicle on the 900 block of Woodland Avenue about 8:50 a.m. yesterday.

• A motorist was uninjured after her car and a semi truck tangled on southbound Interstate 5 in Chehalis this morning. Aid called about 11:10 a.m. to the scene just south of the Main Street interchange said it appeared her car was bounced back and forth between the truck and the guard rail several times and was totaled.
