POLICE: WHAT NOT TO DO

• An individual called 911 about 3 o’clock this morning asking for an officer to standby during a purchase involving Craigslist he had arranged to occur at his home on Southwest Gails Avenue in Chehalis. An officer responded and the sale took place without incident, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Detective Sgt. Gary WIlson said it was a case of not realizing until it was too late that conducting business in the night at your own home with a stranger from the Internet is not a good idea.

TREE FALLER BLAMED FOR POWER OUTAGE

• Firefighters called to an area off Davis Lane west of Onalaska about 11 o’clock yesterday found a tree which had been cut down and fell the wrong direction pulled down a 230,000 volt power line belonging to Bonneville Power Administration. Lewis County Fire District 1 Chief Mark Conner said he was sent to a nearby house to make sure everyone was accounted for and luckily  nobody was electrocuted, nobody was injured, and it didn’t start a fire. Conner said it was part of the lines that run from Mayfield Lake to the various distribution points. The owner of a land clearing company arrived and said he couldn’t find his employee, who apparently had taken off, Conner said. Workers from BPA handled getting tree removed, he said. Electricity in the area was restored, he said.

BACKYARD PROWLER

• Centralia police were called about 9:25 a.m. yesterday regarding the theft of three bicycles from a backyard on the 500 block of South King Street.

UNWELCOME MOTHER-IN-LAW

• Police arrested a 56-year-old Centralia woman last night after she allegedly forced her way into her daughter-in-law’s home to get her son’s truck keys following his arrest earlier in the evening. Officers responding about 11:15 p.m. to the 600 block of Marion Street booked Teresa L. Perkins into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary, according to the Centralia Police Department.

OUT-OF-CONTROL AT GREEN HILL

• Chehalis police referred a case to prosecutors for a charge of third-degree assault yesterday following an investigation into an incident at Green Hill School on Aug. 11 in which an 18-year-old inmate allegedly charged a staff member who was trying to uncuff him, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

TRESPASS

• A 33-year-old woman discovered in an empty building this morning at the 700 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia was arrested for first-degree trespass. Kristy A. Price-Alvarez was  booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 37-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for both a warrant and possession of heroin after contact with an officer at Marion Street and Oxford Avenue in Centralia about 9:30 p.m. yesterday. Anna C. Bergman was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 25-year-old Centralia man was arrested for both a warrant and possession of an unspecified controlled substance after contact with an officer at the 1100 block of West Main Street in Centralia just after 8 p.m. yesterday. Dylan E. Pyrtle was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 25-year-old Chehalis resident was arrested for an outstanding warrant and possession of methamphetamine after he was contacted by personnel from the state Department of Corrections and a deputy at the 100 block of Bear Cat Court outside Chehalis about 10:30 a.m. yesterday. A pipe and a bag of suspected methamphetamine was found, according, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s office. Derrick S. Alefteras was  booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

GOAT ROCKS FOREST FIRE STILL BEING WATCHED

• The Coal Creek Mountain Fire in the Goat Rocks Wilderness is still burning but remains at an estimated less than 10 acres in size, according to a spokesperson from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Sharon Steriti says it hasn’t grown since it was discovered a week ago; the recent rains and high humidity have helped keep the fire activity low. Fire personnel are scouting for locations where they could build containment lines in case that becomes necessary, according to Steriti. The fire is in a remote and extremely steep and rugged terrain, according to GPNF.

WRECKS

• Three vehicle were totaled in a multiple vehicle rear-end collision in front of Winlock High School yesterday evening that resulted in one person being taken to a hospital with minor injuries,  according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened just before 5:15 p.m. at the 200 block of North Military Road; all drivers were 16 years old, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Two people were hospitalized yesterday after a two-vehicle rear-end collision at about 5 p.m. on state Route 505 just west of Toledo, according to the Washington State Patrol. A pickup truck driven by Jacob R. Baker, 21, of Toledo, struck the back end of a pickup driven by Craig K. McCown, 51, of Kelso, which had slowed to turn left, according to the state patrol. Baker and a 17-year-old passenger from Castle Rock in McCown’s truck were both taken to Providence Centralia Hospital, the state patrol reported.

CENTRALIA RESIDENT FLEES INTRUDER

• Police were called yesterday morning to the 500 block of North Buckner Street in Centralia when an individual entered, or began to enter, a home while a 69-year-old woman was watching television in her living room. The person saw her and ran out the back door, she ran out the front door to a neighbor’s to call 911, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police Sgt. Stacy Denham said the back door had been unlocked. All she saw was a sleeve, described as on a dark jacket with a white stripe, Denham said. Nothing was missing and nobody hurt, but police are still investigating, according to Denham.

BREAK-IN CINEBAR

• A deputy was called yesterday regarding a burglary at the 100 block of Summer Run Drive in Cinebar in which two guns, a generator and various tools were stolen. The victim said sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. the night before, someone came into her residence, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

BREAK-IN WINLOCK

• The sheriff’s office reported this morning that a deputy took a report on Saturday of a burglary at the 300 block of Pine Tree Road near Winlock. Among the valuables taken sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. that day were a Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun and a red jewelry box, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

POSSIBLE MAIL THEFT

• Centralia police were called just before 2 p.m. yesterday regarding several mailboxes getting broken into along the 3700 block of Galvin Road.

POLICE: DRIVING WHILE HIGH

• A 55-year-old motorist was arrested about 11 o’clock last night for driving under the influence of drugs after he reportedly pulled in front of a patrol car and then stopped in the road on the 200 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia. “The officer had to stop to avoid a collision,” Sgt. Stacy Denham said. Bruce M. Piper, from Olympia, also was found with suspected heroin in his pocket, according to Denham. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

JUMPED IN CENTRALIA

• Police are investigating an assault from last night in which a 26-year-old Centralia man was struck by an individual, possibly with some kind of metal pipe in the area of the 100 block of South Washington Avenue. Officers were called about 11 p.m. by someone who overheard three males speaking of a robbery and then subsequently by the victim, according to the Centralia Police Department. He said he was just sitting waiting for a ride and had no idea why the trio attacked him, according to police. His injuries didn’t require him to go to the hospital; he had swelling on his head and scrapes on his back, according to Sgt. Stacy Denham.

FEMALE SAYS SHE WAS SHOVED FROM VEHICLE

• Chehalis police are investigating a possible assault after a call last night to the 2500 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue where a crying woman said she she was pushed out of a vehicle. An officer was called about 8 p.m. to a business after the woman arrived there and she was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital to be checked out, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

OUT-OF-CONTROL PATIENT

• Police were called to the emergency room at Providence Centralia Hospital early yesterday morning when a patient allegedly charged a nurse and attempted to punch another. The two male nurses restrained 33-year-old Giovanni L. Revetria with a bear hug, according to the Centralia Police Department. It happened about 12:30 a.m. at the 900 block of South Schueber Road, according to police Revetria was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault, according to police.

DOMESTIC ISSUE

• A 34-year-old Centralia man was arrested on Saturday evening after an alleged assault at the 200 block of North King Street in Centralia. Officers called about 5:40 p.m. were told Glenn A. Tukes choked his wife; he was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department. He is to be released without charges pending further investigation.

ROAD RAGE WITH BARE BUTT

• Chehalis police were called about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday after a dispute in which a driver allegedly jumped out of his vehicle, dropped his pants and mooned another driver and when she followed him, he stopped and backed up and struck her vehicle. It began in the parking lot at Twin City Town Center, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The victim identified the 36-year-old man by looking at a photo and he will be mailed a citation for hit and run to his home in Hoodsport, according to police.

ART THEFT

• More than $5,000 worth of Native American art pieces have been reported stolen from the 100 block of Frost Creek Road in Glenoma. A deputy called yesterday was told that sometime since July 20, someone entered the home and left with items such as multi-colored beaded baskets, clay pots, bottles and sterling silver pieces, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.

THEFT OF MONEY

• Chehalis police were called yesterday afternoon to a home on Southwest William Avenue about a large amount of cash missing from a lock box sometime in the previous week and a half. The case is under investigation, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

FOILED THEFT

• A 23-year-old Rochester man was arrested early yesterday morning for attempted vehicle theft after he was allegedly caught inside someone else’s vehicle in the area of West First and M streets. Officers responding about 3:40 a.m. confronted the individual but he took off running and tried to jump over a fence, according to the Centralia Police Department. A police dog took the suspect the ground and held him until he was handcuffed, according to police. Max A. Lyons was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• A 42-year-old Onalaska man was sentenced to five years in prison today for an incident at the end of June in which he was caught traveling 71 mph in a 55 mph zone and had been drinking. Clifford Lee Stone Jr. was stopped by a state trooper on state Route 508 on June 29. He was convicted after a trial last week under the state’s felony DUI law. Judge James Lawler was told this morning in Lewis County Superior Court that Stone has six previous convictions for driving under the influence, one for felony DUI and a conviction for vehicular assault that occurred while he was intoxicated. Lawler told Stone it was clear the only thing that was going to stop him and would protect the community was being locked up. Stone chose not to make a statement on his own behalf. His defense lawyer Michael Underwood filed a notice of appeal.

SIX ESCAPE BURNING RESIDENCE IN SALKUM

• A Salkum family is without a home after fire tore through their two-story house on the 800 block of Gore Road today. Crews called just before 11 a.m. found six people who had gotten out safely, according to Lewis County Fire District 8. “We had smoke rolling out of three sides of the structure and it had just started burning the roof over the garage,” Fire Chief Duran McDaniel said. The roof collapsed, the walls remain standing but most of the contents are probably destroyed or damaged, McDaniel said. The couple who owns the property built the home about 20 years ago and were out of town, he said. McDaniel wasn’t certain who all was there, as the Red Cross arrived and worked with the occupants, some he thought were visitors. He believed they included a young adult, three teenage-ish aged persons, a child and an infant. Nobody was injured at all, he said, adding it could have been entirely different it occurred at night while they were sleeping. McDaniel praised the volunteers who battled the blaze until 2 p.m., some of whom were on the scene until after 4 p.m. “We had 27 firefighters from four districts that worked their butts off today,” he said. An investigator came out and will return tomorrow, he said. Initially, something electrical is suspect as it seemed to have originated near a laundry room, he said.

• Centralia police were called about 7 o’clock this morning about a burglary to a home at the 300 block of West Magnolia Street.

DID YOU FEEL THE EARTH MOVE?

• Light shaking was reported felt in Glenoma yesterday with lesser trembling detected from Packwood to Longview when a magnitude 3.7 earthquake occurred about 2:38 p.m. The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network recorded it just northwest of Mount St. Helens, along the Spirit Lake Highway. The quake, at about nine miles deep, was followed by several minor earthquakes and then just after 6 p.m., one measuring at 3.4 and another at 3.1, according to the PNSN. According to PNSN charting, the amount of seismicity noted around the volcano during the past month doesn’t qualify as more than average.

ROAD RAGE AT FREEWAY ONRAMP

• A 47-year-old Chehalis man was arrested at gun point yesterday on Harrison Avenue near Belmont in Centralia after a motorist reported someone approached his parked vehicle screaming, punching the window and trying to get inside. Police called about 7:10 p.m. were told the man had pulled over on the freeway onramp to use his cell phone when a stranger approached with a knife, according to the Centralia Police Department. The stranger yelled and tried to break the window and then abruptly left, getting into a black truck and driving away, Officer John Panco said. Officers locating the truck ordered Harvey C. Maddux to get out and he apparently fought with them a little bit when it came time to get into a patrol car, Panco said. Maddux was booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree assault, according to police. Panco said he didn’t know what upset Maddux.

MORE SOUTH COUNTY BURGLARIES

• A deputy was called yesterday to a residential burglary at the 900 block of state Route 506 near Vader. Sometime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. someone made forced entry and left with jewelry and cash, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A deputy took a report yesterday of a break-in to a home at the 200 block of McClure Road near Winlock in which a gold ring and other items were stolen. It happened sometime since July 29, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. Rob Snaza said the sheriff’s office has seen an uptick in burglaries in the south end of the county and they are looking into similarities in recent cases.

BAD HOUSE GUEST

• Centralia police took a report about 3:25 a.m. today of clothing and other items such as electronics stolen from a home on the 1100 block of F Street. A house guest is suspected in the theft, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police yesterday recorded instances of graffiti on a trailer, a shed and another building on the 1000 block of J Street and the an alley near the 600 block of G Street.

FRENCH FRY ACCIDENT

• Firefighters and medics were called just after 4 p.m. yesterday to Winlock home with a cooking fire. Responders arriving to the 1000 block of Southeast First Street learned a potful of oil for french fries had ignited and the resident attempted to carry it outside, using a paper towel to hold onto it, according to Lewis County Fire District 15. She was treated at the scene for a minor burn to her hand, Assistant Chief Kevin Anderson said. The only other damage was a scorch mark on the linoleum, he said. Anderson recommended the safest way to deal with such an incident is to cover the pan with its lid or douse the flames with a fire extinguisher. He reminds folks never to put water on a grease fire.

VEHICLE VERSUS POLE

• A motorist was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital after colliding with a utility pole on the 400 block of North Tower Avenue overnight. Police responding about 3:25 a.m. found the man with minor injuries, but the pole broke about 15 feet up and tipped, according to the Centralia Police Department. The cause remains under investigation, according to police. The roadway was closed for workers to replace the pole, police said.

INMATE FLEES CHEHALIS MUNICIPAL COURT, FOUND IN BUSHES

• A 20-year-old Rochester woman booked early yesterday morning for drugs escaped from police custody just outside Chehalis Municipal Court just before 3 p.m. yesterday. Kyrstin R. Daarud, aka Kyrstin Lane bolted as she and two other inmates were taken out of a patrol car in the parking lot at the 300 block of North Market Boulevard, according to police. Officers converged on the area and found her within about 10 minutes, hiding in some bushes a few blocks to the south, according to detective Sgt. Gary Wilson. She was dressed in an orange jail garb and chains, he said. Daarud was arrested about 4:30 a.m. that day in Centralia for possession of heroin, methamphetamine, unlawfully possessing a firearm and a misdemeanor warrant, according to police. She was being taken to the Chehalis court to deal with her warrant. She’s back in the Lewis County Jail with a new potential charge of first-degree escape. Wilson said he will recommend she be charged with theft as well for taking off with their handcuffs.

CHILD ASSAULT ALLEGED

• Deputies investigating an incident from last year at the request of police in Spokane arrested Donny R. Elliott, 37, yesterday at his home on the 100 block of Chandler Road west of Chehalis for second-degree assault, second-degree assault of a child and harassment, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. While there, they also learned a new alleged misdemeanor assault involving a 22-year-old female, Sgt. Rob Snaza said. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

BURGLARY TOLEDO

• A deputy was called last night to a burglary at the 200 block of state Route 506 near Toledo in which someone broke through a back door of a home and left with numerous valuables including an Olympus camera, a Sony camera and a humidor as well as credit cards, gift cards and checks, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. The loss is more than $1,000, Sgt. Rob Snaza said.

AUTO THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 4:50 a.m. today when the owner of a white 2013 Kia discovered the car missing from where it had been parked on the 1000 block of Ellsbury Street.

CAR PROWL

• Someone stole a backpack from a vehicle parked at the 700 block of Hamilton Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday morning.

DRUGS

• A 30-year-old Centralia man who was picked up on a warrant about 4 o’clock this morning at a residence on the 300 block of North Pearl Street was arrested for possession of methamphetamine when a search turned up a suspected meth pipe in his sweatshirt pocket. Treston D. Zimmerman was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police investigating suspicious activity about 12:30 a.m. along the 1200 block of West Main Street ended up arresting a 21-year-old man who had unopened packets of Suboxone in his pocket but no proof the items were prescribed to him. Centralia Police Department Sgt. Carl Buster said he believes the items are patches used to help people got off of heroin. It is a schedule three narcotic and its necessary to carry such materials in their original containers with their prescription label, Buster said. Jantzen J. Redle-Schumacher was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police. He is to be released without charges pending further investigation.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• A murder trial was set for next month but instead 32-year-old Corey R. Morgan will appear before a judge next week for a hearing in which he is expected to change his plea in connection with last month’s violent death of his girlfriend. Brenda Bail, 48, died from strangulation and an injury to her head, and Morgan is accused of staging a vehicle wreck on a logging road west of Morton in an attempt to cover it up on July 19. The couple lived in Chehalis. He previously pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Shane O’Rourke said a hearing is now scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on Monday, but declined to reveal details about any plea agreement.

•  Jonathan D. Greyeagle, 22, pleaded not guilty this morning to second-degree assault of a child in connection with allegedly giving his girlfriend’s 5-year-old son a black eye and causing significant bruising on his buttocks. The Chehalis man was arrested on Monday when police and Child Protective Services visited the home. According to charging documents, under questioning, the boy said he was being bad and his “dad” hit him, giving him a bloody nose, and also that his dad spanks him with his hand and with a shoe. Greyeagle told an officer he only spanks the child with an open hand, but agreed the bruises on his bottom were excessive and said he lost control, according to the documents. He told the officer it would never happen again. Greyeagle allegedly admitted hitting the child in the face, but said it only occurred once, according to the documents. The court documents are silent on details about specifically what occurred or when or where it happened and who reported the bruises to CPS. He is charged in Lewis County Superior Court and remains jailed on $25,000 bail. Court documents say the 23-year-old mother had taken photos and told police she told Greyeagle if it happened again, she would leave him. She said she did not see the bruises until a few days after, because the child was staying at her mothers home. Court documents also state Greyeagle is prohibited from contacting any witnesses in the case or his wife. A trial was scheduled for the week of Oct. 14.

WRECK

• A 15-year-old driver was taken to Morton General Hospital yesterday after a motor home ran a red light on U.S. Highway 12 at Williams Street in Mossyrock. Troopers called just after noontime found the Volkswagen Jetta in a ditch and totaled, but the motor home was still drivable, according to the Washington State Patrol. Wayne A. Vigre, who has a learner’s permit, was with his mother in the car, according to the state patrol. He had a sore neck and back but no broken bones, Trooper Will Finn said. The Silver Creek teenager was turning from northbound Williams to head west and the motor home was traveling eastbound, according to Finn. It’s driver, Leon Summer, 77, of Morton, was reportedly unhurt, but ticketed for failing to stop at the light, Finn said. The mother, Debra L. Kaech, 40, was also uninjured, according to the investigating trooper.

LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS HEAD TO LEAVENWORTH

• Crews from Mossyrock and Toledo were dispatched last night to a wildfire east of the mountains which has grown to about 1,500 acres since yesterday morning. The Eagle Fire is burning timber, brush and grass about five miles northeast of Leavenworth. Fire Districts in Tenino and Rochester each sent personnel as well. “We’ve been there before on fires, it’s very steep terrain, and challenging,” West Thurston Regional Fire Authority Robert Scott said. Authorities requested 10 wildland strike teams last night. Some mandatory evacuations from residences were ordered this morning, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. More than 300 personnel are assigned to the fire which is labeled with a growth potential of high. Mossyrock’s Lewis County Fire District 3 sent two people and Toledo’s District 2 sent three, as did the two south Thurston County departments. Follow the fire news here.

• A 20-year-old Rochester woman was arrested early this morning for a misdemeanor warrant as well as possession of heroin, methamphetamine and also a firearm, something she is prohibited from having, according to the Centralia Police Department. Kyrstin R. Lane was booked into the Lewis County jail after contact with an officer about 4:30 a.m. in the area of South Pearl and West Pear streets in Centralia, according to police.
