CHILD ASSAULT

• A 37-year-old Pe Ell man has been arrested for third-degree assault of a child following an investigation that concluded he punched his 7-year-old step-daughter in the arm when she got in between a physical dispute involving him and her mother. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports a deputy on Friday following up on a referral from Child Protective Services learned the trio had gone shooting out in the woods the weekend before and when the girl tried to get Joseph W. Rogerson to stop hitting her mom, he struck the girl, leaving a bruise. Both adults denied it happened but there was a witness who described what occurred, according to the sheriff’s office. Rogerson was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

VICTIM FINDS STOLEN VEHICLE

• A Chrysler minivan stolen from the 700 block of South Rock Street was located by its owner who was able to track it down yesterday because their cell phone was inside. Centralia police called about 9 a.m. yesterday were told the vehicle had been last seen parked about 11 p.m. the night before and the victim used “Find-a-Phone” to find it parked along Yew Street, according to police. A GPS device was missing and about three-quarters of a tank of gas had been used, Sgt. Kurt Reichert said. The odometer showed someone put about 300 miles on the van, Reichert said.

BAD BILLS

• Chehalis police were called about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday to the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue where a customer spent counterfeit money. An investigation is ongoing, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

OTHER THEFT

• Chehalis police were called to the 1900 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue on Friday afternoon about a license plate getting stolen from a car hauler.

DRUGS

• A 37-year-old was arrested for possession of heroin after he was found slumped over in the driver’s seat of his vehicle on Saturday morning on the shoulder along the 4600 block of Galvin Road in Centralia, with a mirror and suspected tar heroin next to him. Joshua W. Norvell, of Centralia, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A search turned up brass knuckles, so a case for possession of a dangerous weapon is also being forwarded to prosecutors, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

MOSSYROCK HOME BURNS

• A manufactured home on the 200 block of Swofford Road southeast of Mossyrock is a complete loss from a fire on Friday, according to Lewis County Fire District 3. A neighbor reported smoke about 11:18 a.m. and when the fire department arrived, they saw light smoke and flames at the back door, Chief Doug Fosburg said. A search inside for any people was cut short by too much fire and it wasn’t long before the entire residence was engulfed in flames, Fosburg said. The renter was finally located elsewhere, later in the day, he said. One firefighter was transported for minor smoke inhalation, he said. Fosburg said the victim was himself, and it happened when the wind changed the direction of the smoke as he was beginning incident command. It appears fire had been burning in the ceiling for as much as an hour before the fire department arrived but an investigator is looking into the cause, he said.

• A 45-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for second-degree assault after she allegedly threw a “salt lamp” at an individual’s face on Friday. Police called about 2:15 p.m. to the 500 block of East Maple Street were told she had also scraped the victim with a knife the prior evening, according to the Centralia Police Department. Diana Y. Eyle  was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

POLICE: FORMER EMPLOYEE IS INTRUDER

• A 40-year-old Centralia man reportedly caught inside his former boss’s residence taking jewelry was arrested for second-degree burglary on Friday. Police responded about 9:15 a.m. to the 500 block of Yew Street and then booked David A. Casebolt into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

LOCKER PILFERING

• Centralia police were called to Thorbekes at the 2000 block of Borst Avenue about 10:20 p.m. on Friday about the theft of a wallet from a locker.

FOOD AND DRINK THEFT

• Centralia police were called just before 2 p.m. on Friday about the theft of dog food and vodka from the 100 block of Harrison Avenue. The suspect fled prior to police being called,  according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police responded to the 800 block of Eshom Road on Friday morning regarding juveniles spray painting derogatory words and pictures on rocks, windows, pavement, and a yard. The case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 30-year-old Centralia area man who avoided a felony charge yesterday was promptly re-arrested for drug possession, a different felony. Tyler V. Geist was stopped on Interstate 5 on Wednesday and arrested for second-degree robbery, because Centralia police said he had taken money from the wallet of a female acquaintance and shoved her in the process. Prosecutors yesterday declined to file the felony charge, but Geist’s car had been impounded and a detective going through the vehicle yesterday found inside of it residue in a baggie that field tested positive for meth as well as a container with brown residue, according to prosecutors. Charging documents in the new case state the detective also found needle caps, drug paraphernalia and a digital scale with brown residue. Geist was charged today in Lewis County Superior Court with possession of heroin and possession of methamphetamine. His bail was set at $10,000.

• A 23-year-old man was arrested for possession of heroin yesterday after he was picked up at his workplace in Chehalis on a state Department of Corrections warrant. In his pocket was a black tube and a folded up piece of foil that tested positive for the drug, according to charging documents. Matthew C. Gilmon was booked into the Lewis County Jail and charged today in Lewis County Superior Court with possession of heroin. The rural Chehalis resident has been working at the same job since he got released almost a year ago on a previous conviction, he and the defense attorney for the day Shane O’Rourke told the judge this afternoon as the amount of bail was discussed. O’Rourke noted he himself had prosecuted the earlier case and recalled that Gilmon remained out of custody after his conviction and returned to court for his sentencing hearing. The judge allowed Gilmon release on a $10,000 signature bond.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE PROBES INTRUSION DURING MEMORIAL SERVICE

• An 83-year-old Toledo area woman called the sheriff’s office yesterday to report numerous valuables were missing from throughout her home, such as a revolver, a gold pocket watch, a hunting knife, pearls and other jewelry. The resident at the 400 block of Jackson Highway South said she had a memorial back on May 7 for a relative and people knew she would be away, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. There is a person of interest the investigation is focusing on, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said this morning. Also taken was a .22 rifle with scope and coin collections, including five rolls of buffalo nickels, with a total loss adding up to about $2,000, according to Brown. Much of the stolen jewelry was handmade, Brown said.

FUEL THEFT

• Centralia police were called again for an occurrence of theft of fuel from parked vehicles. The incident reported just before 8 o’clock yesterday morning took place at the 200 block of East Van Buren Street, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Chehalis police were called just after 7 p.m. yesterday to take a report of a vehicle prowl at the 1500 block of North National Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry, but someone got inside and took what the report describes as an electrical item, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police were called just before 8:30 a.m. yesterday after the discovery someone stole cash from an unlocked vehicle at the 1100 block of West Chestnut Street.

DOWNTOWN SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS TARGETED

• Centralia police took reports from three different businesses yesterday morning that during the night, someone either stole or tried to steal outside security cameras. The first to report was a victim on the 200 block of South Tower Avenue, and soon after, a similar theft was discovered on the 600 block of South Pearl Street, according to the Centralia Police Department. At the 600 block of South Tower Avenue, the camera remained but its mounting bracket broken and pulled from the wall, according to police.

CENTRALIA GARAGE BREAK-IN

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a garage burglary that occurred at the 3000 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia that occurred during the week and a half that ended on Tuesday while the owner was away. Someone kicked in a door and tried but failed to start up a broken down ATV and made off with a socket and wrench set, according to the sheriff’s office. The tools are valued at $200, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

HONDA CAR STOLEN

• Chehalis police were called just before 7:30 a.m. today following the discovery of an overnight vehicle theft at the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street. A white 1995 Honda Accord was reported missing, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The car has a crack across the windshield and a Yankees baseball sticker on its window, according to police.

CASH STOLEN

• Centralia police arrested a 30-year-old resident yesterday after he allegedly took money from the wallet of a female acquaintance and shoved her in the process. Officers called just before 3 p.m. about the incident at the 500 block of Harrison Avenue stopped Tyler V. Geist in a vehicle near exit 88 on Interstate 5, according to the Centralia Police Department. Geist  was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree robbery, according to police. Prosecutors today declined to file the felony charge.

MAIL THEFT

• Centralia police took a report yesterday from an individual at the 1500 block of Lewis Street who said sometime during the night someone stole a check out of the mailbox that was waiting to be picked up by the postal carrier, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police were called about 6:15 a.m. today after a vehicle prowl was discovered at the 1200 block of West Walnut Street. The victim said that sometime during the night an unknown person entered their unlocked vehicle and stole the registration, some mail and a medical marijuana card as well as change from the ash tray, according to the Centralia Police Department.

HOUSE FIRE DOUSED QUICKLY

• Firefighters responding yesterday morning at 11:50 a.m. to a residential structure fire at the Whispering Woods Mobile Home Park off the 17300 block of Sargent Road in Rochester were able to get quick extinguishment, according to West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. Nobody was injured and the damage was minimal according to the fire department. The arriving crew found smoke coming from beneath the single-wide mobile home and subsequently found a discarded cigarette had ignited pine needles and cones, Chief Robert Scott said. The resident will probably need only to replace insulation under the home, Scott said.

• A break-in to a Centralia area business left its owner with a loss of nearly $10,000, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning. Sometime between Sunday and yesterday, someone damaged the main door window at the Power Shop at the 3800 block of Harrison Avenue and made off with various tools and parts as well as four Honda generators, according to the sheriff’s office.

DOWNTOWN BREAK-IN

• Police were called about 8:30 a.m. yesterday to a Chehalis business on the 400 block of North Market Boulevard after an individual arriving for the day found the door unlocked, the cash register on the floor and money missing.

INTRUDER FLEES RESIDENCE

• Police were called about 12:10 a.m. today when a resident on Southeast Ninth Street near Market Boulevard saw someone run out from their basement. Nobody was located, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

AUTO THEFT, PLUS FIREARM

• If you see a red 1984 Toytota SR5 pickup truck, with a blue fender on the front passenger side, it may very well be the one stolen from a Centralia driveway yesterday between 7:20 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. Deputies were notified of the theft of the truck, which had been left unlocked, as well as the Winchester bolt-action rifle inside it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A friend of its owner reported seeing it traveling at a high rate of speed on Kuper Road toward Harrison Avenue in Centralia, and being followed by a blue four-door Honda Accord, according to the sheriff’s office. The vehicle was taken from in front of a home on the 2300 block of Van Wormer Street in Centralia, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said this morning. It has a license plate reading C75023D, according to Brown.

• Centralia police were called about 12:20 a.m. today for a vehicle prowl at the 200 block of West Cherry Street in Centralia. Taken was a laptop computer, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday to the 100 block of Northeast Summit Road for a vehicle prowl that occurred during the night.

FUEL THEFT

• An individual reported to Centralia police yesterday morning that sometime over the weekend someone cut the fuel lines to several work vehicles and stole fuel at the 300 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia. The case is currently under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

GUN CRIME

• A 39-year-old Centralia man was arrested about 11 p.m. yesterday for unlawful possession of a firearm after contact with an officer at Alexander and Latona streets in Centralia. Kyle W. Elliott  was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Chehalis police took a report yesterday morning from W.F. West High School following the discovery of graffiti on several exterior walls.

•  A 44-year-old Centralia resident was arrested about 8 p.m. yesterday for a warrant and possession of methamphetamine after contact with an officer at the 900 block of North Washington Avenue in Centralia. Joshua L. Harris was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 31-year-old Olympia woman accused of shoplifting at Wal-Mart about 8:20 a.m. yesterday in Chehalis was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of methamphetamine based on a substance found that field-tested positive for the drug. A case for third-degree theft is also being referred to prosecutors for Jessica L. Fetchik, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

ANGRY TOLEDO UNCLE JAILED

• A 63-year-old Toledo man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly used his tractor to lift up the front end of his grown nephew’s car and choked and hit him several times, saying the 28-year-old was trespassing on his property. Deputies responding about 1:25 p.m. to the 200 block of Ray Road found Jeffery A. Oberg on a tractor and Oberg said he and the younger man had gotten into an argument, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The nephew, also from Toledo, was contacted and described what had occurred, according to the sheriff’s office. The Acura Integra was damaged, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. A cell phone video corroborated the incident, according to Brown. Oberg was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, Brown said.

ANGRY TENANT JAILED

• A 56-year-old woman who allegedly wielded a large knife during a landlord-tenant dispute northeast of Toledo was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail. A deputy called about 11:30 a.m. on Friday to the 100 block of Alder Creek Road was told Libby A. McDonald was living in a tent behind the home, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The 64-year-old resident and McDonald were arguing because she was supposed to leave and, a witnessing neighbor said, McDonald held the knife and threatened to stab and kill the 64-year-old, according to the sheriff’s office. McDonald was arrested for first–degree assault, Chief Deputy Brown said.

ANGRY BOYFRIEND JAILED

• A 25-year-old Mossyrock resident was arrested after a report of a physical dispute that allegedly took place while he was driving from Centralia to Onalaska with his girlfriend on Saturday afternoon. Noe I. Lopez-Cruz would not let the 35-year-old woman leave his vehicle until he was driving along state Route 508 and slowed enough she was able to get out, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy advised of the situation abut 2:48 p.m. was subsequently told he struck her on the left side of her head, according to the sheriff’s office. Lopez-Cruz was contacted at the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 12 and booked into the Lewis County Jail for unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. Prosecutors today declined to file the felony charge.

INTERRUPTED BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• It’s unknown yet if anything is missing from the 92-year-old woman’s home on the 2400 block of Salzer Valley Road but when a neighbor confronted two people, they fled in a teal-colored 1990s Ford Ranger, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened about 6 p.m. on Saturday and appeared they got inside through an unsecured window, according to the sheriff’s office. Both were described as white and in their mid-20s. The female was slender with blond hair; the male had a medium build and short reddish hair, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

AUTO THEFT

• A 21-year-old Toledo area resident who had left his keys and wallet inside his 2001 Honda Civic was watching television just before 5 p.m. on Saturday when he heard what sounded like his car speed past his house at the 200 block of Sareault Road near Toledo. He went outside and saw his car was gone, along with the wallet which held $200 cash and bank cards, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The missing car is black, according to the sheriff’s office.

• A 2006 Toyota Corolla, containing $500 cash, vanished from where it was parked at the 100 block of Rose Marie Drive in Chehalis sometime between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday. There is a person of interest in the case, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

MONEY TAKEN FROM DONATION JAR

• Centralia police were called just after 11 a.m. yesterday to a business on the 500 block of South Tower Avenue where they learned an individual had stolen cash from a donation jar on the counter and fled. The suspect in the third-degree theft is described as a white male in his early 20s with very short blond hair wearing dark pants and a dark T-shirt, according to the Centralia Police Department. The victim is Possibilities Pregnancy Center, according to police.

FRAUD

• Chehalis police are investigating a report of fraud reported on Sunday from the 500 block of South Market Boulevard.

• A 35-year-old Centralia woman with no criminal history allegedly admitted to police that she shoplifted at the Vanity Fair Outlet in Centralia, and returned merchandise for cash or gift cards after creating a store VIP account using a relative’s name. Jennifer M. West was arrested at the Outlets on Friday and brought before a judge in Lewis County Superior Court this afternoon. West made the reported admission when Centralia police took her into custody, after they were notified the day before of a suspicious customer, according to court documents. She was charged today with third-degree theft, forgery and second-degree identity theft related to what West estimated was $300 worth of theft over the course of five visits to the retailer. She was allowed release from jail pending trial on a $10,000 unsecured bond today.

VEHICLE PROWL

• An officer was called for a car prowl at the 500 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia at about 10:40 p.m. yesterday. Someone had broken out the window and stolen a purse, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called just before 1 p.m. yesterday to the 400 block of North Tower Avenue regarding a wallet stolen from a vehicle. A credit card from inside of it ad been declined at a local business, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case was referred to detectives for review, according to police.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a  firearm was stolen in a vehicle prowl just before 4 a.m. on Thursday at the 100 block of Vista Road near Chehalis. Taken was an XD 40 caliber pistol valued at $500, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Centralia police were called yesterday to the 1100 block of Alder Street in Centralia to take a report that someone spray painted an unknown symbol on the side of someone else’s vehicle sometime over the weekend.

• Centralia police were called yesterday afternoon to the 100 block of K Street where someone spray painted on someone else’s vehicle during the night.

• Chehalis police were called on Sunday morning to the 900 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue where someone had cut tires and spray painted letters on a vehicle.

• Chehalis police were called on Sunday regarding graffiti spray painted on an apartment building at the 400 block of Northeast Jefferson Avenue.

• A 39-year-old driver showing off his new 2016 Corvette Stingray to a friend was cited for wheels off the roadway after at an unexpected stop sign east of Morton, he hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and traveled though the brush and into a tree. The car was totaled and the 39-year-old from Amboy suffered a bump on his head, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responding to the approximately 6:20 p.m. crash on Friday learned he had been northbound on Priest Road and missed the traffic sign at Davis Lake Road because he was going too fast, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.
