NIGHTTIME INTRUDER STEALS TP

• Deputies responded about 11 a.m. yesterday to the 200 block of Jones Road in Winlock where a 39-year-old man reported someone got into his basement while he was sleeping and stole medications, toilet paper and motor oil. A Foosball table surface was damaged as well, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened sometime between 7 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 a.m. yesterday, according to the sheriff’s office.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called to the 800 block of Marion Street about 3:15 p.m. yesterday to investigate a burglary to a shop. Tools were taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

AUTO THEFT

• A deputy was called yesterday afternoon to property behind a gate off of the 400 block of Teitzel Road outside Centralia where a car was found that appeared to be partly “parted out,” according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A cutting torch was located and the 1992 Honda Accord had been stolen in Centralia, according to the sheriff’s office.

CAR PROWL

• Police were called about 3:30 p.m. yesterday regarding a vehicle prowl at the 2000 block of Haviland Street in Centralia. A cell phone was stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 31-year-old Centralia man picked up on outstanding warrants about 6:45 p.m. yesterday at the 1400 block of West Main Street in Centralia was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine as a sandwich baggie containing several bindles of suspected meth were located inside a backpack, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Steven D. Harko Couch was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Chief Deputy Dusty Breen.

TRUCK FIRE

• Firefighters were called abut 12:20 a.m. today to a fire in a semi truck on Interstate 5 southbound near milepost 65. The truck was destroyed and the 53-foot trailer transporting bottled water sustained minor damage, according to Lewis County Fire District 15. The driver said she’d seen smoke coming from the sleeping area of the cab, but the cause is undetermined, Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Anderson said. A crew was on scene for approximately an hour total for extinguishment and overhaul, according to Anderson.

HOUSE FIRE CAUSE STILL UNKNOWN

• Fire Investigator Ted McCarty said this morning the cause of the house fire at South Market Boulevard and 11th Street last Thursday morning remains under investigation, by the police and fire department. A man, a woman and a toddler were helped to safety out of a second-floor dormer window before the fire department arrived after the approximately 5 a.m. call.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Centralia police were involved with a short vehicle pursuit of a gray pickup truck at about 2:10 p.m. yesterday in the area of Mellen Street and Interstate 5. The officer attempted a traffic stop because of an equipment violation, but the driver headed south on the freeway and the officer terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns, according to the Centralia Police Department.

NIGHTTIME INTRUDERS NEAR BARN

• Deputies were called just after 9 p.m. yesterday to the 200 block of Lincoln Creek Road west of Centralia when a resident investigating flashlights in his field seen headed toward his barn encountered two males who shoved him against a wall and fled. A neighbor had called to report hearing yelling and vehicles driving behind a residence, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The 43-year-old victim tried to pursue the males on foot, but nobody was found, according to the sheriff’s office. Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said it’s not yet known if anything was stolen, but they are investigating.

BURGLARY

• Chehalis police were called at 1:50 p.m. yesterday to take a report of a second-degree burglary at the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue. Further details are not yet available, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called to a business on the 1600 block of North National Avenue where someone made a hole in the exterior wall at the back of a business and had been removing unspecified items.

• Centralia police were called about 7:25 a.m. yesterday to the 1600 block of North Pearl Street where someone had broken into a storage shed and made off with a shotgun, a rifle and two archery bows.

THEFT

• An officer was called to the 500 block of Southwest 18th Street in Chehalis about 3:15 p.m. yesterday to take that mail had been stolen.

DRUGS

• Centralia police arrested a 20-year-old Oakville resident for possession of methamphetamine and an outstanding warrant last night.  Natasha C Henderson was booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with an officer about 9:45 p.m. at the 500 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 61-year-old Silver Creek man was booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence after he totaled his 1997 Ford pickup truck last night, colliding with a guard rail on Stowell Road near Gore Road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responded to the approximately 11:48 p.m. single-vehicle collision, noted the driver had failed to negotiate a curve and arrested Ted C. Hamrick, according to the sheriff’s office.

TOOL HEIST

• Chehalis police were called about 11:10 a.m. yesterday about a break-in to an outbuilding on the 1500 block of North National Avenue. Among the items taken sometime over the weekend were a Milwaukee sawzall, a Ryobi 18-volt charger, a Ryobi impact driver, a Stihl hand-held blower, two more Stihl blowers and a 20-inch power saw chain, according to the Chehalis Police Department. There are no suspects, according to police.

• Centralia police were called to the 900 block of West Pear Street about 5 p.m. yesterday to take a report of a burglary to a garage. A generator was taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN

• A deputy was called yesterday to the 600 block of Nevil Road in Winlock to take a report of a possible attempted burglary. The resident found screens removed from two windows and a key broken in a lock, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

DRUGS

• When police were called by an individual who said there were three males trespassing on his property at the 1000 block of Northwest Prindle Street in Chehalis just before 2 p.m. yesterday, one of them was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant and subsequently suspected methamphetamine was found in his jacket pocket, according to authorities. Joseph K. Hansen, 23, from Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• A 24-year-old Chehalis woman went before a judge today, charged with first-degree theft in connection with more than $24,000 allegedly missing from her workplace, a liquor and wine store at the Twin City Town Center where she was employed from December until March. Amberly M. Morehead reportedly told police she got behind on her bills, took money from work and intended to pay it back but kept getting further behind. Chehalis police began investigating on March 26 when the manager reported he had suspicions of internal theft, according to charging documents. The manager told police the cash reports came up short nearly every time Morehead worked, but it didn’t happen with other employees, according to the documents. He showed the officer video images that indicated her selling bottles of whiskey, but not scanning them or printing a receipt and provided paperwork that showed $1,850 cash taken from the store, refunds of $4,756.29 Morehead allegedly made to herself and $17,987.33 in alleged fraudulent returns to herself, according to the court documents. Charges were filed on Sept. 1 and Morehead was summonsed to appear this afternoon in Lewis County Superior Court. A judge allowed her to remain free on a $10,000 unsecured bond and set her arraignment for Sept. 29.

INTERRUPTED BURGLARY

• Centralia police were called to the 600 block of Field Avenue about 8 p.m. on Saturday after a resident heard noises and found a stranger in the downstairs of the home. The male, and possibly two other individuals, fled after being discovered, according to the Centralia Police Department. A K-9 arrived to conduct a track which was unsuccessful, according to police. A Honda lawnmower was missing from a shed there, according to police.

AUTO THEFT

• Chehalis police were called about 7 p.m. yesterday about a vehicle theft from the 1000 block of Southeast Washington Avenue. The missing vehicle was located about 9:45 p.m. in an alley behind that location, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called just after 7 p.m. yesterday about a vehicle stolen from the 600 block of Southwest William Avenue and later located the vehicle traveling on Main Street. The two occupants were booked for outstanding warrants and the victim no longer wanted to pursue charges, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police were called on Friday to the 1100 block of J Street where a white 1992 four-door Honda had been stolen during the night.

MORE THEFT

• Someone stole four marijuana plants off a porch on the 200 block of Southwest 10th Avenue in Chehalis, according to a report made to police just after 9 a.m. on Friday.

• A generator was stolen from the 1000 block of J Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police on Friday morning.

• Plants were stolen from the front yard of a residence on the 800 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police at about 4:20 p.m. on Friday.

• Police were called about 3:10 p.m. on Friday regarding the theft of mail from the 1300 block of Lakeshore Drive in Centralia.

• A delivered package was stolen from a front porch on the 400 block of West Center Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police just after 9 a.m. on Friday.

• Centralia police were contacted on Saturday by an almost-victim who reported they responded to a Craigslist ad about a home for rent that was actually not available for rent. “The suspect’s intent was to collect first and last month’s rent though in this instance no money was sent prior to the victim learning of the attempted scam,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about 9:15 p.m. yesterday about a vehicle prowl at the 500 block of Madison Street in Centralia. A backpack was taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• An officer was called about 8:15 p.m. yesterday for a vehicle prowl at the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue. Someone had broken out the window, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about 3:20 p.m. yesterday to the 1000 block of Eckerson Road in Centralia where someone had stolen a pressure washer from the back of a truck, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about a vehicle prowl at the 300 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia at about 6:50 p.m. on Friday. Missing were CDs and a solar charger, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 30-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and two warrants after contact with a deputy shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday at the 1400 block of Oxford Avenue in Centralia. Cassandra L. Aparicio was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• When a Chehalis police officer stopped a vehicle with a suspect from a Centralia malicious mischief at about 1 a.m. on Sunday on state Route 6, the officer observed suspected marijuana in the vehicle, according to the Chehalis Police Department. A Centralia officer booked Mitchell J. Wilson, 18 of Chehalis, into the Lewis County Jail in connection with him allegedly breaking the windshield of a vehicle at the 1300 block of Oxford Avenue, according to police.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 30-year-old Chehalis man was arrested after a police chase in Centralia yesterday that ended with two occupants reportedly exited their moving car as it nearly hit a woman and child in a crosswalk, skidded into a parked vehicle and came to rest on the sidewalk in front of the post office. A deputy had begun pursuing the light blue car about 1 p.m. after getting a report two males in such a vehicle had just grabbed a Honda pressure washer from outside a home on the 2200 block of Graf Road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Charging documents state the car ran numerous stops signs, drove through various streets including an alley and one yard before arriving to the 200 block of Centralia College Boulevard, where two males wearing ball caps took off running. Christopher D. Buck was captured a short distance away from the scene and arrested for numerous alleged offenses, as well as a warrant from the state Department of Corrections for escape from community custody, according to authorities. Suspected meth was found in his pocket. The second male wasn’t located, but there was a pressure washer in the car, sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. Buck’s bail was set at $25,000 today after he was charged with eluding, possession of methamphetamine, hit and run and third-degree theft in Lewis County Superior Court.

• Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Providence Centralia Hospital after a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 struck a street sign and sheered off a power pole at the 300 block of Logan Hill Road in Chehalis yesterday morning. A deputy responding just before 7 a.m. found the driver had no apparent injuries but arrested him for first-degree driving with a suspended license and driving without required interlock device, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was totaled. Thomas J. Murphy, 35, from Ethel, said he thought maybe bald tires slipped on dirt along the white line and sucked them into the ditch, according to the sheriff’s office. Murphy was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

PET AND SUBARU VANISH

• A deputy was called about 9:25 p.m. yesterday by a 35-year-old Toledo area resident who reported when he returned home, he found both his car and his dog were stolen. Missing from the 300 block of Jackson Highway South is a Boston Terrier named Brady and a red 1997 Subaru Legacy, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim said the keys had been left in the vehicle, according to Breen.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY CHEHALIS

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported today someone broke into a home on the 100 block of Alderwood Drive in Chehalis through an unsecured door while the resident was on vacation and left with more than $3,000 worth of valuables. Among the items missing are two televisions, two Mac desktop computers and assorted liquor, according to the sheriff’s office. A deputy took the report on Wednesday and determined the break-in occurred on Sept. 4, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

SECOND-DEGREE THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 6:50 p.m. yesterday to a business on the 1200 block of Alder Street to take a report of the theft of a wallet.

• Chehalis police were called about 10:50 a.m. yesterday to the 2100 block of North National Avenue where an individual reported an EBT card was stolen from their trailer home.

MOTORHOME PROWLED

• A 52-year-old Castle Rock woman reported last night that her motorhome broke down on the 700 block of Toledo-Salmon Creek Road, she left and returned to find someone had stolen all kinds of her belongings. A deputy responding about 8:30 p.m. learned that missing was a Die Hard battery, an Onan generator 6500, binoculars, silverware, beaded jewelry and clothing, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Police were called to the 1000 block of J Street in Centralia about 1:50 p.m. yesterday following the discovery someone stole change from a jar inside an unlocked car.

• Someone stole change from a car at the 100 block of L Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 10:20 a.m. yesterday.

ASSAULT REPORT

• Centralia police were contacted about 6:30 p.m. yesterday to take a report of a sexual assault occurring several days earlier in connection with a location on the 300 block of West Magnolia Street.

MED DIVERSION ALLEGATION

• The state Department of Health yesterday announced it suspended the registered nursing assistant credential of Jennifer K. Thayer for at least five years in connection with allegedly admitting diverting about 1,500 narcotic pills for her personal use from a resident of an adult family home she operated in Lewis County. Thayer was charged criminally with possession of a controlled substance.

RESIDENTIAL FIRE RANDLE

• One person was hospitalized with non-life threatening burns after firefighters were called to a small cabin fire on the 300 block of Cline Road in Randle today. The cabin was a total loss, according to Fire Chief Jeff Jaques. The lone occupant was taken to Morton General Hospital, according to the chief.

THREATS

• Deputies were called yesterday afternoon to the 21500 block of state Route 507 in south Thurston County after three firefighters responded to a “medical alert” call from a 68-year-old woman who brandished a shotgun. They had dealt with the same woman the day before, who was new to the area and had some type of mental issues, according to Thurston County Fire District 12. They were on the porch, she was at an open window,  Chief Tina Vanderhoof said. “She was frustrated, picked it up and pointed it at one of our firefighter’s heads,” Vanderhoof said. “They retreated, they thought they heard shots.” Deputies finally after an hour or so were able to resolve the situation at the mobile home park north of Centralia peacefully. Upon searching the home, detectives recovered only a “replica” shotgun, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office tweeted. The woman was to be booked into the Thurston County Jail for second-degree assault.

• A 23-year-old Chehalis man was arrested yesterday after allegedly threatening a family member with a knife, and advising he was going o stab her. Deputies called about 11:40 a.m. to a dispute at the 100 block of Lana Kila Lane booked Anthony L. Varga into the Lewis County Jail for felony harassment, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A 27-year-old Centralia man was arrested about 8:50 p.m. yesterday for felony harassment-threat to kill at the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue, according to the Centralia Police Department. Ryan G. Chapman was wanted for outstanding warrants and was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• A road rage incident involving a passenger car and two motorcyclists ended with a non-injury collision about 6:40 p.m. yesterday at the 100 block of West Maple Street in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department. Jason W. Shipman, 44 of Puyallup, was cited for harassment and then released pending a court date, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A person in the process of purchasing a bank-owned residence on the 1000 block of Logan Hill Road in Chehalis contacted the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office about 6:15 p.m. yesterday to report the discovery that someone had removed all the appliances and a pump from the well sometime since about 6 p.m. the day before. There were no signs of forced entry, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Chehalis police were called about 7:50 a.m. yesterday when an employee discovered a burglary at a business on the 1000 block of Northwest State Avenue. It appeared someone cut holes in a garage door to make entry and stole $200, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Police were called about 10:30 a.m. yesterday about the theft of a blue 2002 Ford Escort from the 900 block of South Gold Street in Centralia. The car had no license plates, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police responded to an approximately 5:15 a.m. call today of a vehicle prowl at the 1100 block of South Pearl Street. A window was broken and a vacuum cleaner and clothes were taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called at about 12:30 a.m. today to the 900 block of South Scheuber Road in Centralia where an individual reported someone got inside their unlocked vehicle and stole change, cigarettes and medication.

• An officer was called just after 9 p.m. yesterday about a vehicle prowl at the 1700 block of South Market Boulevard in Chehalis. Among the missing items were a bottle of cologne and a Ruger pistol, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
