ATTEMPTED BANK MACHINE HEIST

• Centralia police arrested two individuals overnight who were allegedly seen trying to force open an ATM machine at the 600 block of South Tower Avenue. Chase Z. Barker, 19, and Anthony T. Hauck, 18, both of Centralia, were booked into the Lewis County Jail for attempted theft and first-degree malicious mischief following the call just after 3 o’clock this morning, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN

• Two people were arrested after allegedly trying to kick in the back door of a home on the 500 block of West Cherry Street in Centralia but were thwarted when the resident pushed back against the door barring entry on Thursday. Officers called just after 9 a.m. got a description of the suspects who fled and subsequently located Aaron J. Henning, 27, of Rochester, and Alan R. Moody, 54, of Winlock, according to the Centralia Police Department. They were booked into the Lewis County Jail for residential burglary. Moody was also arrested for possession of stolen property as it was discovered that he had also stolen a lawn mower from a nearby house, according to police.

THEFT, THEFT, THEFT

• An individual reported to police yesterday morning that prescription medication was stolen from her residence while she was gone, at the 1800 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia.

• Police were called just after 5 p.m. on Friday to the 1500 block of Delaware Avenue where someone had cut a lock to a garage and stolen a gas can.

• Centralia police were called about 8:40 a.m. on Friday to a vacant home on the 1000 block of Alder Street following a discovery someone had forced their way in and stolen power equipment left there for repairs.

• Centralia police took a report from the 1500 block of Lewis Street on Thursday morning of an overnight break-in to a maintenance shed.

AUTO SHOP FIRE CAUSE WAS ACCIDENTAL

• It was a loose electrical connection inside a electrical wiring junction box at Burkett Auto Sales that ignited the fire last weekend that caused an estimated  $30,000 damage to the shop area of the business. The fire on the 1100 block of South Gold Street in Centralia broke out the morning of Feb 25 and was extinguished before it could spread to an adjacent office and large shop building. Riverside Fire Authority Assistant Chief Richard Mack called the condition a high resistance connection, which resulted in a build up of heat and then the fire.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Two people were arrested after a pursuit off the freeway and through Chehalis that ended with at least three vehicles damaged, including a patrol vehicle, a parked vehicle and the stolen car the suspects were traveling in. A deputy attempted to make a traffic stop of a silver Honda Civic which reportedly was speeding and cutting in and out of traffic on northbound Interstate 5 and exited at the Chamber of Commerce Way interchange, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The chase continued through downtown and into a residential area where the Honda finally stopped, but then its driver backed up and rammed the deputy’s 2014 Ford Explorer, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver of the Honda maneuvered onto a curb striking a parked 2016 Mazda CX5, pulled forward into the patrol vehicle and was then pinned against the curb by the deputy’s vehicle before the two occupants got out and ran off, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. It all happened shortly after 6 a.m. on Thursday and ended near Terrace Road and Northeast Highland Place, according to Breen. The 15-year-old female passenger was taken to the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for possession of a stolen vehicle and the 18-year-old suspected driver, Nicholas A. Mannthey was booked into the Lewis County Jail for attempting to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle, malicious mischief and second-degree assault, Breen said.

• Centralia police were called just before 7 p.m. yesterday for a burglary at a home on the 500 block of West Cherry Street. Tools were stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FORGERY

• An individual at the 1200 block of Alder Street in Centralia reported yesterday morning possible fraud involving someone writing checks on his account. The case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

OTHER ARREST

• A 32-year-old Randle resident was arrested for for interfering with a health care facility after police were called to the 900 block of South Scheuber Road in Centralia at 1:50 p.m. yesterday. Kelly A. Holen was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A small vial containing a white crystal substance was found inside the sock of a woman getting booked into the Lewis County Jail last night leading to her arrest for possession of methamphetamine.  A deputy arrived just after 9 p.m. to the area along state Route 6 near Steven Road in Doty to assist the woman who had called in because she was having vehicle issues, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy ran her name through the system, discovered she had an outstanding warrant and took 33-year-old Grace K. Mathison of Kent to the jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police took a report from the 400 block of Centralia College Boulevard just after 10 a.m. yesterday that an unknown person or persons broke into a vacant residence and flooded the living area by turning on all of the water faucets and damaging the drains.

• An individual reported yesterday evening after discovering their vehicle had two flat tires and taking them in for repair, it was learned they had been slashed while parked at the 200 block of Southeast Washington Avenue, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• An adult male suspect was contacted after punching a passing car, causing damage to the vehicle at Locust and South Pearl streets in Centralia yesterday morning around 11:15 a.m., according to the Centralia Police Department. The incident is under investigation, according to police.

• Centralia police report they are investigating an incident in which the driver left the scene of a crash at the 600 block of North Gold Street sometime before 7:52 p.m. yesterday. The vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 48-year-old Toledo man was arrested last night after a witness reported seeing his vehicle nearly hit a guard rail, run into a ditch, almost cause a head-on crash after crossing the center line and travel at speeds varying between 10 mph and 50 mph. A deputy arriving about 9:30 p.m. to the area on Jackson Highway near Tucker Road contacted Rodney Wallace, conducted field sobriety tests and then booked him into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

ROPE TRICK FAILS AT GREEN HILL

• A 17-year-old student-inmate is facing a possible charge of first-degree attempted escape after an incident in which he took off running and tried to throw a hand-made rope over the fence at Green Hill School. An officer called yesterday to the state juvenile detention facility was told the youth got 400 to 500 yards away from the group he was with before he was apprehended, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• An individual at the 1500 block of Lewis Street in Centralia reported yesterday afternoon someone broke into his coin-operated laundry machines and took the money from them, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• An outside security camera was stolen from a business on the 300 block of Lowe Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 1:20 p.m. yesterday.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday morning of the theft of a package delivered to a front porch at the 700 block of North Washington Avenue.

• Chehalis police were called about 6:30 a.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard after a woman attempted to spend a fake $50 bill at Starbucks inside Safeway. The counterfeit money was left behind and the subject took off in a white Honda Accord, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VEHICLE PROWL

• An officer was called to the 1400 block of Northwest Airport Road in Chehalis about 3:45 p.m. yesterday after a woman learned the driver’s side window of her vehicle was broken out and her purse stolen.

• Centralia police were called about 3:10 p.m. yesterday about the theft of a battery from a travel trailer at the 700 block of J Street.

• A wallet was taken from a vehicle parked at the 900 block of South Scheuber Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 7:40 p.m. on Monday.

DRUGS

• A 32-year-old woman arrested shortly after 9 a.m. yesterday at the 500 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia for an outstanding warrant was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine. Christina A. Leyva, of Lacey, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

• Centralia police yesterday evening decided to refer a case to juvenile prosecutors regarding an allegation of second-degree rape against a 16-year-old boy, according to the Centralia Police Department. The teen is already in custody on an unrelated matter, according to police. Further details were not readily available.

VANDALISM

• A deputy was called over to the Lewis County Jail about 8:20 p.m. yesterday because an inmate had allegedly intentionally broke a sprinkler head. A case against Jeremy J. Miner, 41, will be referred to prosecutors for a charge of malicious mischief, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Miner reportedly told the deputy he broke it because he wanted to inhale the cigarette smoke he thought was emanating from the object, sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said. The loss is $300.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A Toledo police officer was apparently unhurt when his patrol car sitting in a parking lot facing Front Street at Cowlitz Street was struck by a Toyota Tacoma yesterday afternoon. A deputy called to investigate about 2:50 p.m. determined the 35-year-old Toledo man driving the truck had suffered some sort of medical issue which led to the collision, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The truck sustained minor front end damage and the 2008 Dodge Charger was left with minor damage on the front passenger side headlamp, according to the sheriff’s office. The 35-year-old was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital for evaluation, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

• Centralia police reported yesterday they were looking for a white 1991 Honda Civic hatchback which sped away recklessly following an attempted traffic stop at Harrison Avenue and northbound Interstate 5 about 12:30 p.m. on Monday. An officer got its license plate which reads BBR 4040, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DEPUTY ASSAULTED

• A 49-year-old Chehalis woman allegedly struck a deputy with her fist after the deputy went to the 300 block of state Route 131 in Randle to remove her from a residence. Brandi L. Weston reportedly did not know the homeowner and was refusing to leave last night. Weston was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault and a case for second-degree trespassing was referred to prosecutors, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

HOMELESS PERSON ASSAULTED

• Chehalis police are investigating after a woman brought a homeless man to the police department on Friday evening so he could report getting assaulted at the playground four days prior.

BURGLARY AND THEFT

• A burglary to a garage on the 400 block of Courtland Street was reported on Friday morning in which a battery charger and several hand tools were stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 3:15 p.m. on Saturday to the 500 block of South Market Boulevard after a female saw two individuals inside her vehicle in a parking lot there. An officer subsequently located a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy and arrested them for vehicle prowl and released them to parents, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police were called to the 300 block of Noel Avenue in Centralia about 7:20 a.m. on Saturday to take a report of the theft of a small safe and contents from a travel trailer.

• A flight bag was reported stolen from a residence at the 100 block of Jalyn Street in Centralia at about 8:45 p.m. on Friday.

• Centralia police took a report on Saturday morning from the 900 block of J Street where someone stole a bicycle from the yard and left another bike behind.

• Riley J. Youckton was pulled over about noon on Saturday at the 1200 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue in Chehalis and arrested for third-degree driving with a suspended license, and then booked into the Lewis County Jail in connection with a Centralia case, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A 59-year-old Centralia motorist suffered an elbow injury when she rolled her vehicle at the 2400 block of Little Hanaford Road on Friday. A deputy called about the single-vehicle collision just before 3 p.m. noted the driver was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital and cited her for wheels off the roadway, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The 1995 Kia Sportage was totaled.

VICTIM CLUBBED IN HEAD

• A 29-year-old man was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital yesterday evening after he was assaulted with a wooden club at the 600 block of South Washington Avenue in Centralia. Officers called just before 6 p.m. learned there had been a disagreement between the victim and a 26-year-old acquaintance, according to the Centralia Police Department. The victim had been struck in the head, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.

TOOLS, EQUIPMENT STOLEN

• A Centralia area resident contacted the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office yesterday to report the discovery of a burglary to a building on the 100 block of Joppish Road in which an air compressor, a skill saw, an angle grinder, a sawzall and a guitar were missing. The owner checked his game cam and realized it happened between 11:40 a.m. and 6:07 p.m. on Jan. 17, according to the sheriff’s office. There is a person of interest, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

AUTO THEFT

• A blue 1994 four-door Honda Accord was stolen from where it was parked at Centralia High School on the 800 block of Eshom Road in Centralia sometime between 7:50 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It has a license plate reading AYR 1922, according to the sheriff’s office. The owner had let her brother use it and the loss is estimated at $2,000, Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

LOCKER PILFERING

• Chehalis police took a report yesterday afternoon of the theft of a men’s Bulova wristwatch from a locker at W.F. West High School. It has a black face and a silver link-style band, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

PHONE STOLEN

• An individual who accidentally left a Trac phone in the restroom at a store on the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue in Chehalis called police at 11:20 p.m. yesterday after tracking it to an area in Chehalis.

• Police were called just before 4 p.m. yesterday to the 1600 block of Harrison Avenue to take a report of fuel siphoned from a vehicle.

DRUGS

• Chehalis police were called over to Green Hill School just after 9 a.m. yesterday where a smoking device and green vegetable matter were found in the possession of a student-inmate. The items were collected and police are awaiting the results of lab testing, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A deputy was called about 7:30 p.m. yesterday when a man arrived home at the 100 block of Kirkland Road outside Chehalis to find his front door open and several firearms missing. Someone had also gone into his garage and taken a Stihl weed eater, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened sometime after 5:45 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Among the missing guns are a Mossberg shotgun and a 22 caliber Stevens rifle, Chief Dusty Breen said.

STORAGE FACILITY BREAK-IN

• Someone forced their way through a gate and broke into four units at a multi-unit storage facility at the 300 block of Toledo-Vader Road outside Toledo sometime between Monday and Tuesday morning, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Two locks were cut, according to the sheriff’s office.

BURGLARY AND THEFT

• Centralia police were called to a burglary at a business on the 500 block of North Tower Avenue just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Taken were some small tools and change, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police took a report of the theft of antiques from a vacant house at the 1000 block of Eckerson Road in Centralia just before noon on Tuesday.

• Centralia police were called about 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday to the 100 block of South Tower Avenue about the theft of a computer tablet from a retail store.

• Centralia police took a report late yesterday afternoon of the theft of a notary public stamp from a mailbox at the 3100 block of Russell Road.

AUTO THEFT

• Chehalis police were called about 7 o’clock yesterday morning to the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street where someone had stolen a car while it was being warmed up. Missing is a blue 2005 Ford Focus, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Someone stole fishing gear from a vehicle parked at the 1400 block of Lewis Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police on Tuesday. It happened during the night, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Someone slashed tires on two vehicles at the 1200 block of North Washington Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police at 8 a.m. yesterday.

GUN FIRE CENTRALIA

• Centralia police reported yesterday they were investigating an incident from the night before in which a resident near the 100 block of East Center Street produced a handgun and fired a bullet into the air to scare off a group of people, who fled the area. The gunfire followed a dispute, according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers contacted the resident who fired the shot, recovered the gun and took statements at the scene, according to police.

• A 21-year-old Chehalis man allegedly entered a business, stole a bottle of alcohol and pushed an employee there just before 8 a.m. yesterday at the 500 South Tower Avenue. After he was arrested he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, according to the Centralia Police Department. Eric J. Stevens was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• Centralia police were called about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday to a business at the 100 block of South Tower Avenue where a man had been asked to leave, and punched the store’s owner in the chest, according to the Centralia Police Department. Matthew E. Eastman, 32 of Centralia, was arrested for fourth-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• A 35-year-old man was arrested for third-degree assault after he allegedly slammed the victim to the ground in a bar dispute around 1 a.m. on Monday at the 100 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia. Timothy R. Babcock, of Centralia, was subsequently arrested also for first-degree malicious mischief after he allegedly kicked out a window in the back of a patrol car, according to the Centralia Police Department. Babcock was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

VEHICLE THEFT

• A deputy was called to the 200 block of Big Hanaford Road outside Centralia after a woman woke up about 10 a.m. on Sunday and discovered her truck was missing from the driveway. She said she’d parked the silver 2011 Ford F150 about 10 p.m. the night before, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

GAS THEFT

• A business reported that two male suspects used an unknown tool to bypass the pay system at the fuel pump on the 1200 block of Mellen Street and stole an undetermined amount of fuel yesterday, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police are investigating.

OTHER ARRESTS

• Kyle L. Davidson, 31, of Centralia, was arrested for first-degree trafficking stolen property on Sunday night. Officers contacted him at a dispute on the 400 block of West Main Street in Centralia and arrested him based on probable cause established on another case which occurred last week, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 22-year-old Chehalis woman who allegedly gave police a fake name after they contacted her about suspected shoplifting incident about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday at the 1700 block of North National Avenue in Chehalis was arrested for second-degree identity theft. Kristina S. Bailey booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Cash, coin collections and a wedding band were discovered stolen from a residence on the 1000 block of Roosevelt Avenue in Centralia after a houseguest was asked to leave, according to a report made to police about 4:40 p.m. on Saturday.

• Police were called about 12:50 p.m. yesterday to the 1600 block of Mellen Street where an individual reported the theft of a ring described as a heart shaped solitaire in yellow gold.

• Centralia police were called about 5:30 p.m. on Friday to the 300 block of Hemlock Street in Centralia regarding the theft of golf clubs and sports memorabilia from an unlocked shop.

• Centralia police were called to the 600 block of West Pine Street about 10 a.m. on Friday where someone had stolen cement planters and a white angel figurine from the yard.

• Chehalis police were called by an individual about 4:25 p.m. on Friday whose wallet was lost and then turned in to a business on the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue, but was minus its cash.

• Centralia police took a report about 3:20 p.m. on Friday of the theft of a bank card that had been left in an ATM machine at the 100 block of South Pearl Street and then used later by someone.

• Chehalis police were called just before 10 a.m. on Friday to the 2000 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue where sometime during the night someone stole a heat pump off the side of the building.
