PORTABLE GARAGE GOES UP IN FLAMES TODAY IN CENTRALIA

• Fire destroyed a fabric-sided garage-like structure and everything in it this morning in Centralia. Firefighters were called just before 9 a.m. to the blaze in a back yard on the 300 block of North Diamond Street. Riverside Fire Authority Capt. Greg Schwartz said it might have been an electrical problem as it was at the end where there was wiring and cords for a space heater and lights. Nobody was injured.

SHOVE IN TAVERN LEADS TO SEVERE HEAD INJURY

• A 65-year-old Chehalis man remains unconscious and on life support following a head injury he got during an altercation in a downtown bar last week. The Chehalis Police Department today arrested a 49-year-old man they say shoved the man who then fell down and struck his head. Police called to the Star Tavern on the 200 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue about 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 found the man unconscious on the floor in a large pool of blood, according to police Chief Glenn Schaffer. He was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital and then flown to Haborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to a news release. Schaffer reported the argument between the two customers apparently stemmed from comments the victim made to the bartender. James M. Abbott, 49, of Chehalis, was arrested at his residence today for second-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

SEMI TRUCK WRECKS NORTH OF CENTRALIA

• A big rig was destroyed when it crashed overnight on Interstate 5 north of Centralia. The driver was reportedly uninjured. A trooper was called about 12:40 a.m. to the northbound lanes near the Lewis-Thurston county line. The 1999 Peterbilt hauling a soft-sided trailer hit the center barrier after striking the jersey barrier on the shoulder side, according to the Washington State Patrol. A car in the southbound lanes was damaged minimally when it hit some cement debris, the state patrol reported. Diesel spilled from the truck’s tanks drew the state Department of Ecology to the scene, according to the investigating trooper. The 31-year-old driver from Renton was expected to be cited for going too fast.

FREEWAY CRASH SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL

• A woman was taken to the hospital to be checked out after a single-vehicle collision about 8:45 a.m. yesterday on southbound Interstate 5 near Harrison Avenue, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

TOLEDO DOG CASE ENDS WITH FINES, JAIL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

• A Toledo woman is prohibited from ever having dogs again following her sentencing yesterday in connection with animals which were seized from her property last year. Theresa Hahn, 27, was charged in October of last year for inflicting unnecessary suffering or pain upon 20 dogs which were subsequently seized, according to a news release from the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office. A Lewis County District Court judge ordered her to pay a mandatory $1,000 penalty, to reimburse the county for the care of the animals and also to pay a $2,000 fine. She was sentenced to 100 days in jail, half of which can be taken care of with community service at the Lewis County Animal Shelter, according to the news release. Yesterday’s sentencing followed a September plea agreement in which she pleaded guilty to second-degree animal cruelty, according to the prosecutor’s office.

CASH MACHINE TAMPERED WITH

• Police were called to Anchor Bank on the 600 block of South Tower Avenue yesterday morning after damage to an ATM machine was discovered. It appeared someone tried to pry it open, according to Centralia police.

OOPS THAT’S NOT THE BRAKE

• Police were called just before 10 a.m. yesterday after a driver accidentally stepped on the gas pedal and ran into a business shattering the front door on the 1700 block of South Gold Street in Centralia. Further details were not readily available.

THEFT WITH CREDIT CARD NUMBER

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning deputies have a person of interest in the unauthorized use of a credit card after a 35-year-old Aberdeen man yesterday reported finding a more than $200 purchase from Cabellas on his Visa card. There were two other smaller online transactions as well. The victim said he last used his card at the Packwood Inn to rent a room on Nov. 12, according to the sheriff’s office.

CASH LEFT ON TOP OF CAR DISAPPEARS

• Police were called yesterday morning after an individual accidentally left money in a cup on top of a parked vehicle and the money vanished. It happened on the 400 block of South Tower Avenue, according to Centralia police. The amount missing isn’t yet known as an officer wasn’t able to contact the individual for a full report.

DRUGS

• A 39-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after contact with police about 2 p.m. yesterday on the 1000 block of L Street in Centralia. Shawn E. Owre was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BURGLARY, NOTHING TAKEN

• Centralia police responded to a report about 5:40 this morning to a break-in at a building on the 1300 block of South Tower Avenue. A back window was broken and an alarm activated but it didn’t appear anything was missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FELONY ASSAULT

• Brian S. Baimbridge, 48, was charged Monday with second-degree assault, harassment and interfering with domestic violence reporting for an incident that allegedly occurred Saturday in Silver Creek. Senior Deputy Prosecutor Brad Meagher said the suspect choked the victim until she couldn’t breathe, loaded an air pistol in her presence and threatened to kill her and himself. He was ordered by a Lewis County Superior Court judge to be held on $75,000 cash or bond.

SEXUAL ABUSE OF A CHILD

• Troy C. Connatser, 29, Castle Rock, was charged Monday with two counts of rape of a child or in the alternative child molestation both in the first degree in connection with incidents that allegedly occurred between 2009 and March of this year. He was ordered by a Lewis County Superior Court judge to be held on $15,000 cash or bond.

DEPUTIES PURCHASE MARIJUANA, ARREST THREE

• Sheriff’s detectives bought marijuana in the parking lot at the Chehalis K-Mart and subsequently arrested three people, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said the sale was arranged after a citizen told deputies on Thursday they were being solicited to buy drugs by phone calls and texts by someone they didn’t know. Detectives began communicating with “Justin” who said he could sell a half ounce of marijuana for $160, Brown said. Arrested from the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue were Hillary Wayland, 20, Justin D. Mask, 20, and Christopher A. Miller, 23, according to Brown. They are Woodland residents, she said. When they were arrested and what offense each was arrested for was not reported by the sheriff’s office.

GUN MISSING FROM CENTRALIA GARAGE

• A .357 pistol and tools were among items reported stolen in a burglary to a garage on the 1800 block of Hillview Drive in Centralia, according to a report made Saturday morning to Centralia police.

DRUG ARRESTS

• Centralia police made several arrests for possession of methamphetamine over the weekend. About 3 o’clock this morning, Felicia F. Harris, 39, of Centralia was arrested and booked following contact with an officer on the 700 block of North Pearl Street, according to the Centralia Police Department. A Spokane resident was arrested last night following contact with an officer on the 600 block of Harrison Avenue. Jeremy D. McCurdy, 28, was booked for methamphetamine as well as possession of stolen property and obstructing a police officer, according to police. Kassie M. Martin, 27, of Centralia, was arrested last night after contact with an officer at Kresky Avenue and East Summa Street, police reported. On Saturday night, Rebecca L. Hodge, 50, of Centralia, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and heroin at the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue. And Brian M. Williams, 22, of Centralia, was arrested about 5 p.m. Saturday from the 100 block of South Gold Street.

STEREO STOLEN FROM VEHICLE IN WINLOCK

• A deputy took report of a car prowl from the 100 block of Tingle Road in Winlock, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning. Taken was a stereo sometime between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. last Thursday, according to the report.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF

• Chehalis police took reports of four incident of malicious mischief on Cascade Avenue about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Further details were not readily available.

CRASH IN BOISTFORT VALLEY

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a 60-year-old man was hospitalized with head and face injuries after a single-vehicle collision on Friday afternoon near Curtis. The driver was headed south near the 700 block of Wildwood Road when his vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in some trees and brush, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

HOMELESS MAN THROWS BEDROLL AT OFFICER

• A 57-year-old man who threw his bicycle and bedroll in the direction of a police officer and took up a fighting stance ended up get Tazed and then booked into jail overnight. Police were called about 2:15 a.m. about a suspicious person near North Tower Avenue and Center Street. The man had plugged a radio into an outdoor electrical outlet not meant for public use, according to Centralia police. When first asked for identification, the man pulled the cord and began to walk away shouting obscenities but then became combative, according to Sgt. Carl Buster. David R. Anderson, a homeless person, was arrested for obstructing a law enforcement officer, police reported.

ABANDONED CAR WAS STOLEN

• Centralia police are asking if anyone saw anybody near an abandoned vehicle  found about 7:20 a.m. yesterday on North Pearl Street partway in the southbound lane just beyond the Skookumchuck Bridge. Officers impounded the maroon Saturn because it was a hazard, and then learned the car was stolen out of Thurston County, according to police.

“SO DOPE”

• Police were called yesterday afternoon to the 800 block of E Street where somebody had used florescent orange spray paint on a camper parked in an alley, leaving the words “so dope”, according to the Centralia Police Department.

GALLONS OF FUEL SPILL ONTO STREET

• The Chehalis Fire Department was called about 4:40 p.m. to the Market Street Market near 13th Street where an estimated 10 to 15 gallons of fuel had spilled and flowed down the street. Firefighter Adam Myer said they ended up spreading  “kitty litter” well onto 12th street to soak up the fuel.

GRINCH AT WORK IN LEWIS COUNTY?

• The sheriff’s office reports deputies have responded to three different cases of Christmas decorations getting stolen from people’s yards in the past two days, including inflatable Frosty and Mickey Mouse as well as lighted reindeer. Yesterday, deputies took reports of thefts from Newaukum Golf Drive and Wind River Drive in the Chehalis area, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The day before, an inflatable Santa Claus was reported missing from the 2700 block of Jackson Highway, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

DRUGS

• Centralia police responding to a call of a suspicious person in the area of the 1100 block of H Street yesterday afternoon arrested a 34-year-old Centralia man for possession of methamphetamine. Steve P. Kirby was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 34-year-old Chehalis resident was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop about 11 p.m. last night on the 400 block of West Main Street in Centralia. Taneal L. Young  was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

SMASHED CAR WINDOW

• An officer was called to the 600 block of West Third Street yesterday evening where an individual reported a window in his car was smashed. A rock was found inside the vehicle, according to Centralia police.

CRASH ON INTERSTATE 5

• An adult female was hospitalized after a single-vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 5 north of Centralia yesterday. West Thurston Regional Fire Authority Battalion Chief Jake Yake said firefighters were called in the late afternoon to the southbound lanes of the freeway just south of Great Wolf Lodge and the driver was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital with minor injuries.

STRANDED HUNTER SPENDS NIGHT OUTDOORS OUTSIDE RANDLE

• A 55-year-old hunter whose pickup truck got stuck in the snow outside Randle walked 10 and a half miles into town yesterday after spending the night in his vehicle in the woods, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The man’s girlfriend had called 911 about 9:40 p.m. on Monday and said he was overdue while hunting in an area off Cline Road. Deputies were not able to locate him but had been told he was outfitted with appropriate clothing and an emergency hunting pack, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. A deputy spoke with the hunter, an Olympia resident, yesterday evening who said he had retrieved his pickup truck from Forest Service Road 26 and got home safely, according to Brown.

GUNPOINT THEFT OF TOYOTA UNDER INVESTIGATION

• Centralia police reported this morning they are on the lookout for a 2003 Toyota Corolla after getting a report on Monday from a Centralia resident who said a man had come to his North Schueber Road home a few days earlier and demanded his car keys at gunpoint. The victim, a man in his 30s, told police he answered a knock on his door and a stranger with a heavy Spanish accent told him to give him his car, according to police. He handed over his keys and the subject drove away, police said. Detective Sgt. Pat Fitzgerald said they are still sorting out the details and don’t believe the reported robbery was random. The vehicle is a white four-door bearing the license plate 583 ZMO. Police ask if anyone sees it to call 911 immediately.

STOLEN POLICE CAR FOUND, TWO ARRESTED

• Two people – including a Tenino woman – were arrested in connection with last week’s theft of an unmarked sheriff’s office car from in front of the home of a sheriff’s office employee, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office reported yesterday. The black 2002 Chevrolet Impala, outfitted with a police radio and emergency lights disappeared from southeast Olympia sometime between the evening of Nov. 23 and 5 a.m. the next day, according to the sheriff’s office. On Monday, deputies and the Olympia Police department got a tip from Crimestoppers. According to a news release yesterday, the car was found at an apartment complex parking lot on the 1200 block of East Street in Lacey. Arrested were Leah F. Moreno, 25, of Tenino, and Daniel K. Conaty, 22, of Olympia.

BURGLARIES

• Chehalis police were called yesterday morning to the 200 block of Riverside Drive where somebody had broken into a vacant house. Nothing was missing, but there were muddy footprints inside, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Centralia police were called just before noon on Monday about a break-in to a building on the 2600 block of Eureka Avenue. Nothing was reported missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

MARIJUANA AT SCHOOL

• A 16-year-old student was arrested for possession of marijuana at W.F. West High School in Chehalis on Monday, according to police. He was booked into Lewis County Juvenile Detention, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The amount in question was “not very much”, detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said.

TEENAGERS ON ROOF

• Four teenage boys were arrested for trespass after a neighbor complained they were sitting on the roof of a vacant Chehalis house 15th Street on Monday.

FIGHT WITH PEPPER SPRAY

• A 22-year-old Chehalis man was arrested after he allegedly used pepper spray or something like it on three people in downtown Chehalis. Police were called just before 2 a.m. Sunday to the 400 block of North Market Boulevard where the subject apparently had gotten into a dispute with a female and sprayed her, according to Chehalis police. When a man and woman intervened, he reportedly used it on them as well, detective St. Rick McNamara said. Ryan E. Smith was arrested for fourth-degree assault and then released, according to police. A second call at about the time just up the street of another fight in front of the Code Red bar drew Centralia police officers to assist, McNamara said. No one was arrested following that call, he said. McNamara said it was Code Red’s last night of being open. “It was their last big party, I think,” he said.
