SUSPECTED DRUG DEALER ARRESTED ON KRESKY AVE.

• A 24-year-old man was arrested at gunpoint in front of McDonalds restaurant in Chehalis yesterday following a drug investigation by the Chehalis Police Department. It happened about 2:15 p.m. on Northeast Kresky Avenue, blocking the roadway for a short time as several officers gathered to make the arrest. Christopher T. Canfield, a Centralia resident, was arrested without further incident and booked into the Lewis County Jail for delivery of a controlled substance, according to police. A small amount of suspected heroin was found, and he had previously allegedly sold drugs to a confidential informant, according to detective Sgt. Rick McNamara. Two individuals in the vehicle were not wanted and were released, McNamara said.

MYSTERIOUS FIRE IN CENTRALIA

• A fire that started in a wood pile beneath steps to a deck on a Centralia area home yesterday caused an estimated $1,500 to $2,000 damage, according to Riverside Fire Authority. A resident smelled smoke, put it out with a garden hose and went back inside, but called 911 about 3:15 p.m. when it reignited breaking a window, fire Capt. Ken Colombo said. The damage to the home on the 900 block of Ham Hill Road was minimal, he said. The department called upon its new fire dog, a Labrador who with its owner joined their investigative team a few months ago, Colombo said. The local dog is one of a few in the state trained to sniff out materials such as gasoline and kerosene, he said. It didn’t clearly “alert” on any suspected materials like that yesterday though, he said. The cause of the fire is unknown.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report from the 800 block of Marion Street yesterday about several tools taken from a garage.

• A sewing machine was stolen from a business on the 300 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made yesterday to  the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called Wednesday about brass doorknobs and hardware being removed from a rental home when a tenant moved out from Adams Avenue.

VANDALISM

• Police took a report of a window being broken on a building on the 700 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia yesterday morning.

DRUGS

• A 32-year-old man was arrested just before midnight on Wednesday for possession of methamphetamine. John Unterwagner, no hometown noted, was booked into the Lewis County Jail after he was contacted by an officer at West Main and North Oak streets, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DUI WRECK

• Deputies and aid responded about 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday to a vehicle accident on the 200 block of Independence Road outside Centralia. Alan L. Wilder, 45, of Rochester, was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

POSSIBLE MAIL THEFTS

• Chehalis police were called about 10:15 a.m. yesterday to the 1800 block of Snively Avenue where several mailboxes were found opened and junk mail was discovered laying around on the ground. Detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said this morning nobody has yet reported any specific stolen mail from the group of mailboxes.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

• Centralia police took a report from a business at the 700 block of Harrison Avenue about 3 p.m. yesterday of an attempted burglary. Somebody apparently tried to get inside by breaking a door handle, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FRAUD

• Police were called yesterday afternoon to the 1300 block of South Gold Street in Centralia where an officer was told somebody’s debit card was used fraudulently. The investigation is ongoing, according to Centralia Police Department.

HOME-IN-PROGRESS PLUNDERED FOR ITS COPPER

• A deputy was called yesterday to a home under construction in Mineral after the discovery somebody had stolen all the copper plumbing and copper wiring. The loss from the residence on the 300 block of Mineral Road South is estimated at $5,000, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

DOG-NAPPING IN CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called about 9 a.m. yesterday to the 1200 block of Mellen Street where a woman reported someone took her black, long-haired Chihuahua out of her vehicle while she was inside a store.

THEFT

• Chehalis police were called yesterday by an individual who saw some of his stolen property listed online on Craigs list for sale. The case is under investigation.

DRUGS

• A 21-year-old woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after she was contacted about an outstanding warrant about 10 p.m. last night near the 400 block of West Main Street in Centralia. Katrina D. Miller, no hometown noted, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CHEHALIS CITY EMPLOYEE SUSPECTED OF THEFT OF CASH FROM SAFE

• An investigation into a November burglary at a city of Chehalis building on South Market Boulevard at 13th Street led to a city employee, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Money – including some raised through a benefit for the daughter of a pair of police department employees – was stolen from a safe, according to police. It was reported the morning of Nov. 19. Chehalis detective Sgt. Rick McNamara said the burglary to the community services building involved an amount of less than $1,000, but he didn’t have the details readily available. The case involving the city employee, whose name he did not disclose, was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision sometime in the days before last Wednesday, McNamara said. He referred questions about the case to the city manager.

THEFTS

• Centralia police were called about 8:20 p.m. last night to a burglary at a residence on the 1100 block of Borthwick Street in Centralia. Among the items taken several laptops and video game systems as well as camera equipment, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Tools and other items were taken in a burglary to a camper and outbuilding on the 700 block of Green Mountain Road near Mossyrock, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The break-in was reported on Saturday.

• Morton police were called about 9:20 p.m. on Saturday about a possible burglary at a residence on the 500 block of Division Avenue in Morton. An officer spoke with the resident who said she climbed through a window because she had misplaced her keys, according to Morton police.

• Police took a report on Saturday about the theft of items (unspecified by police) from a shed on the 1100 block of South Schueber Road in Centralia.

• Police were called to a report of a vehicle prowl about 5 p.m. yesterday at the 800 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia. Missing were glasses and some change, according to police.

• Police were called about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday about a car prowl on the 900 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia.

• Centralia police were called to reports of somebody siphoning gas from vehicles yesterday morning on the 2600 block of Borst Avenue and the 900 block of Rotary Lane in Centralia.

• Centralia police took a report on Friday morning of tampering with a power meter to a residence on the 500 block of Hillkress Street in Centralia.

DRUGS

• James Robinson, a 51-year-old Port Angeles man, was jailed for possession of cocaine after his arrest Saturday evening for shoplifting from two stores in the area of the 1300 block of Lum Road in Centralia, according to police.

• A 42-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine on Saturday night at the 600 block of J Street in Centralia. Dennis L. Lindquist, also driving with a suspended license, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

COLLISIONS

• A 29-year-old driver was hospitalized after a single-vehicle wreck about 3:40 p.m. yesterday near Randle, according to the Washington State Patrol. Jessica Talavera, of Lakewood, was taken to Morton General Hospital with back and leg pain after she drove her car off the right shoulder into a ditch on U.S. Highway 12 near Davis Creek Road, according to the state patrol. The 2006 Nissan Altima was described as totaled.

• Nobody was injured when a car drove into a pond near Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Airport Road in Chehalis at about 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to police.

• One individual was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital after a rollover accident just after midnight near Raubuck and Pleasant Valley roads west of Napavine, according to Lewis County Fire District 5.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE

• Firefighters called about 8:30 p.m. last night to a fifth-wheel trailer fully engulfed in flames  in Rochester called sheriff’s deputies as the fire was suspicious, according to Chief Robert Scott of West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. The RV, unattached to any vehicle, was parked on some property near near Case Road Southwest and Poelhn Road and there was nobody around when the fire department arrived, according to Scott. The trailer was destroyed, he said

STOLEN VEHICLES

• A couple returning from a short hike yesterday in the Packwood area found only glass on the ground where their pickup truck had been parked. They had left the 1986 Ford Ranger on Slalom Way near the Cowlitz River dike and when they returned after about two hours, it was gone, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Criminal Deputy Gene Seiber said since the key was not left in the vehicle, the thief presumably broke the window and hot wired the truck. The value is estimated at $1,600.

• A black 1994 Ford Explorer was reported stolen from the 1100 block of West Pear Street in Centralia yesterday. The vehicle went missing sometime between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m., according to the Centralia Police Department. Its license plates reads 100 VQY.

WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME

• Several individuals were arrested at a residence in Centralia yesterday, some with warrants and others for obstructing. Officers went to the rental home on the 200 block of Hemlock Street with information on the location of a person wanted by the state Department of Corrections, according to police. “We showed up and one thing led to another once we started checking people,” Officer John Panco said. At about 1:30 p.m., officers arrested for obstructing a police officer: Lacey K. Malone, 23; Darcie N. Negrete; 19, and Cory M. Hughes, 18, all from Centralia. Arrested for outstanding warrants were Kelly M. Davis, 35, Centralia; Max A. Cross, 22, of Olympia; and Cory R. Aldrich, 24, Centralia. A few hours earlier, Dominic L. Combs, 23, of Centralia, was arrested in the same vicinity on a warrant and later in the afternoon, Peter D. Harris, 37, of Centralia, was arrested in the same vicinity for possession of methamphetamine. All were booked into the Lewis County Jail.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report yesterday of five horns stolen from atop trains parked near Reynolds Avenue and Lum Road over the previous two or so weeks. The loss to Union-Pacific is estimated at $7,500, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police arrested an individual for second-degree burglary  yesterday after a resident of the 600 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue lost power tools from a garage and found some of his possessions at a Centralia pawn shop. Elijah Haskins, 22, of Onalaska, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Chehalis police.

• Three chain saws and hand tools valued at about $1,000 were stolen from a shed on the 300 block of Forest-Napavine Road south of Chehalis sometime between March 17 and yesterday, according to a report made to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office yesterday morning.

THREAT AT MEDICAL CLINIC

• Chehalis police were called to Steck Medical Center on the 1200 block of Bishop Road about 12:30 p.m. yesterday after a patient reportedly unhappy with his treatment made a comment if he had a bomb, he’d blow the place up. The 77-year-old man was contacted but no arrest was immediately made.

DRUGS AT SCHOOL

• An officer arrested a juvenile male just before 11 a.m. yesterday for possession of narcotics at Centralia Middle School, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center.

ASSAULTS

• Centralia police took a report about 9:20 p.m. last night an individual was assaulted at the 2000 block of Borst Avenue by a subject trying to sell drugs.

• Centralia police reported this morning the case of a male subject who tried to trip an officer in the 900 block of North Tower Avenue last night will be be referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for a possible charge of third-degree assault.

TWO POLICE PURSUITS OVERNIGHT END WITH ARRESTS

• A 31-year-old man wanted for probation violations led deputies on a high-speed pursuit overnight – a good portion of it on two spiked and flattened tires – through Littlerock and Rochester before driving into a ditch and being arrested. It began when an Olympia police officer on his way home contacted the driver near the Ritchie Brothers complex on Case Road Southwest, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Donald M. Bush, listed as transient, had a Department of Corrections warrant for second-degree escape from community custody, meaning he had not been in proper contact with his community corrections officer, according to Lt. Greg Elwin. Bush sped away in his 2007 Ford Escape reaching speeds of 100 mph as two sheriff’ deputies got behind him, Elwin said. His tires were spiked at Littlerock Road near 130th Avenue yet he continued to Mima Road Southwest and then Bordeaux Road Southwest before coming to rest in a ditch, according to Elwin. The pursuit covered sixteen miles in 14 minutes, Elwin said. Bush reportedly told the officers he knew he would be going back to prison if he were caught. Bush was booked into the Thurston County Jail for eluding a police vehicle.

• A 17-year-old driver was arrested after he reportedly screeched his Crown Victoria sideways through a Chehalis intersection last night in front of sheriff’s deputies standing outside a door at the sheriff’s office evidence facility. Deputies jumped in their patrol cars and when they rounded a corner, observed the car stopped up on the curb atop the remnants of a concrete planter it had pushed nearly a block, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened about 10:30 p.m. The teenager was arrested for driving under the influence and turned over to a sober driver, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

TWO ARRESTED FOR BURNING CAR FOUND IN ONALASKA

• A Honda Civic found burning off Kruger Road in Onalaska earlier this month led to the arrest yesterday of two individuals who had reportedly stolen the car and lit in on fire to try to hide it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives yesterday arrested James A. Bitner, 28, of Centralia for second-degree arson. His accomplice, Courtney R. Blurton, 24, of Onalaksa was also arrested, according to Chief Deputy Stacy Brown. The vehicle had been stolen on Feb. 26 from Coal Creek Road.

VEHICLE PROWLS

• Centralia police were called yesterday to the 2800 block of Russell Road where tools had been stolen from the back of a truck overnight.

• Centralia police took a report yesterday morning of jewelry stolen from a vehicle on the 1000 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia.

VEHICLE VERSUS CHILD IN CENTRALIA

• A 12-year-old boy on a bicycle was struck by a pickup truck yesterday at the stoplight on Harrison Avenue and the southbound freeway off ramp in Centralia, according to police.. Officers called about 2 p.m. reported the boy – a Centralia resident – sustained a serious injury to his foot. The details are still being investigated, according to the Centralia Police Department. The child was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. His name was not released.

THEFT

• A light blue 1991 Mazda pickup truck was stolen from a driveway on the 1000 block of Long Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday morning.

• Somebody stole a five-ton floor jack and other items from the 2600 block of Harrison Avenue outside Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy called last night learned it was taken sometime in the previous month along with a Kenmore dryer, irrigation pipes, a farm implement and miscellaneous scrap metal. The loss is estimated at $1,000.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police took a report yesterday of a brick thrown at a car parked in front of a house on the 800 block of H Street.

• An officer was called to the 600 block of Hamilton Avenue in Centralia yesterday where a windshield was shattered and a rock found inside the vehicle.

• Chehalis police took a report late yesterday afternoon of a vehicle’s’ outside mirror damaged by a brick on Northwest Florida Avenue.

RESISTING ARREST

• A 21-year-old Toledo man was jailed last night after he ran from deputies investigating a report of a suspicious person on the 100 block of Collins Road near Toledo. Darrell R. Jackson was arrested for a warrant and for resisting arrest after the approximately 8:30 p.m. call.

DRUGS

• Police called about noon yesterday to Centralia Middle School arrested two student for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The boys, ages 13 and 15, were booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center.
