BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called just before 7 p.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of West Main Street where an individual reported someone broke into his house and stole several items and also accessed his bank account. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about 5:45 a.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of Long Road in Centralia where a home owner reported someone had entered his unlocked storage shed and stolen three Stihl chain saws and one Stihl weed trimmer, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A homeowner discovered his shed was broken into at the 1000 block of Marion Street in Centralia and $850 worth of house framing tools had been stolen, according to a report made to police about 5:35 p.m. on Saturday.

• Clem G. Grant, 39 was arrested about 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the 400 block of West Main Street in Centralia on an outstanding felony warrant as well as first-degree burglary for an incident a day before, according to the Centralia Police Department. Grant was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

• Police were called to the 400 block of Hemlock Street in Centralia about 8:15 a.m. on Friday to take a report of a bicycle stolen out of a backyard shed.

CAMPGROUND BREAK-IN

• A deputy called yesterday morning to a campground at the 2200 block of Centralia-Alpha Road learned that sometime since 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, someone ripped a lock off from a maintenance shed and stole about $2,000 worth of tools and equipment. Among the missing items are two Stihl chainsaws, two Stihl weed eaters, two backpack blowers, a gas hedge clipper and pruning sheers, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

HAMMER THREAT

• Centralia police called about 8:30 a.m. on Friday to the 300 block of West Plum Street arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly threatening to kill the an individual while wielding a framing hammer. James T. Holley was booked into the Lewis County Jail for harassment, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BAD CHECKS

• Police called just before 2 p.m. on Saturday to a business on the 100 block of High Street in Centralia for a pair suspected of passing bad checks arrested Thomas Charles Stephenson, 58 of Tacoma, for unlawful issuance of checks and also arrested Karen E. Saylor, 46 of Tacoma, for possession of methamphetamine and obstructing,  according to the Centralia Police Department. Both were booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

SCAM

• Centralia police on Friday evening were called by an individual who reported they had responded to an ad on CraigsList to rent a house and were tricked out of approximately $2,500. The officer researched the contact information and the phone number that was called is listed on the internet as a known scam number, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case was associated with the 1200 block of Ward Street in Centralia.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Police were called about 7:20 a.m. yesterday to the 400 block of Northeast Adams Avenue in Chehalis where someone had attempted to remove the battery from a Jeep parked in front of a residence.

• A purse was stolen from a vehicle parked at the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 6:45 p.m. yesterday.

FUNNY MONEY

• Centralia police were called about 8:25 a.m. today to a store at the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue when a clerk noticed receiving a counterfeit $20 bill from a customer who had already left.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 35-year-old Centralia driver was injured when a car struck his Lincoln Navigator on U.S. Highway 12 about three miles east of Montesano this morning. Jose J. Romero Mejia was traveling eastbound when a Acura station wagon heading north on Monte-Brady Road attempted to cross the highway and failed to yield, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers called to the scene about 11:30 a.m. found both vehicles were totaled, according to the state patrol.  Romero Mejia and the other driver, 59-year-old Connie Gadwa of Aberdeen, were both transported to Summit Pacific for treatment, the investigating trooper reports.

NIGHTTIME HOUSE FIRE

• A family escaped a house fire without injury over the weekend and their practice of keeping interior doors closed kept the fire contained. Firefighters called about 3 a.m. on Saturday to the 600 block of Haywire Road in Napavine saw smoke coming from the second story and found fire in the upstairs bathroom, according to Lewis County Fire District 5. District 5’s Laura Hanson said a woman awoke and got up when she heard a noise coming from the bathroom. The couple was able to get their three young children out, Hanson said. There was smoke damage throughout the house but the closed bathroom door kept the fire damage contained to that room, Hanson said. The fire originated with a plugged in item overheating, she said.

• Centralia police were called just after 5 p.m. on Thursday to the 200 block of East Chestnut Street because a 41-year-old man had allegedly gone inside a residence without permission and assaulted his former girlfriend. Police were unable to locate the suspect in the immediate area of the crime at the time.

BURGLARY

• Centralia police were called about 8:40 a.m. on Thursday to the 1000 block of South Pearl Street where tool box containing $1500 worth of tools was stolen from an outside shed.

WARRANTS

• A 37-year-old woman from Tukwila was arrested for identity theft after allegedly giving her sister’s name as her own when contacted by police in a vehicle near the boat launch on Pioneer Way in Centralia about 12:50 a.m. today. Daisy R. Mace and a Centralia man were both wanted for outstanding warrants, and were booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 46-year-old Chehalis man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after he was detained by police for an outstanding warrant about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at North Pearl Street and Reynolds Avenue in Centralia. Joshua L. Harris was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called just after 5 p.m. on Thursday to take a report that a passenger of an older white Jeep-type vehicle threw what was believed to be a small ball bearing at a large box van that passed by causing the windshield to be damaged.

SPIT IN FACE

• A 47-year-old Toledo woman was arrested for third-degree assault for allegedly spitting in a deputy’s face after she was contacted about 2:40 a.m. today near the intersection of Jackson Highway and state Route 508. Stephanie M. Foumal allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle and had to be removed, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy had responded to a call about an occupied vehicle with its lights turned off blocking someone’s driveway. A pat down of her passenger led to the discovery of a pipe, according to the sheriff’s office. Emily S. Erickson, 25, Longview, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said. Both were booked into the Lewis County Jail

VEHICLE THEFT

• A 1988 Toyota pickup that turned up in the driveway of a residence on the 100 block of Francis Lane in Centralia about 9:30 a.m. yesterday turned out to have been stolen from a Centralia man between 11 p.m. on Monday and 3 a.m. yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was processed and then released to its owner, according to the sheriff’s office. Centralia police were notified about 10 a.m. of the recovery of the vehicle missing from the 200 block of East Chestnut Street.

CAR PROWL

• A stereo was taken from vehicle parked at the 600 block of North Washington Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police just after 3 p.m. yesterday.

DRUGS

• A 30-year-old man contacted just before 1 o’clock this morning for a traffic stop at Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Chamber Way was found to be driving with a suspended license and then for possession of methamphetamine when a search incident to his arrest turned up a baggie containing a white crystal substance, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Nicholas A. Scott, from Hoodsport, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• A 57-year-old Winlock man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after a deputy was called just before 10 p.m. yesterday to check on a suspicious vehicle parked on Pine Tree Road near Henriot Road in the Toledo area. The driver was contacted, found to be driving with a suspended license and a search following his arrest turned up a clear baggie with a crystal-like substance and two glass pipes, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Steven A. Houston was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A 64-year-old Morton woman who performed poorly on field sobriety tests after she was transported to Morton General Hospital following a crash into a utility pole was arrested for driving under the influence, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy called about 3:15 p.m. yesterday about the wreck at the 1700 block of Main Avenue in Morton found the 2011 Ford Escape sustained major front end damage, according to the sheriff’s office. Wendy L. Riley allegedly admitted using methamphetamine, Valium and alcohol, Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Kimsey.

FIRE AT WOOD MILL

• The Chehalis Fire Department responded to a fire at Cascade Hardwood on Ribelin Road around 1 p.m. yesterday and found the sprinklers had activated and extinguished the fire. The crew evacuated the smoke, according to the fire department.

FOOTPRINTS IN SNOW LED TO SUSPECTS

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that a pair of 18-year-old Winlock residents were arrested for a Dec. 22 break-in at their neighbor’s home on the 900 block of Byham Road. The victim returned home from Christmas shopping and discovered the bathroom window open and shoe prints leading out the back door to the neighbor’s, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Missing was a Playstation 3 and related items, according to the sheriff’s office. Booked into the Lewis County Jail for residential burglary after being interviewed on Saturday were Camryn T. Rogers and Brandon J. Pickens, according to Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey.

AUTO THEFT

• Chehalis police were called to the 700 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue at 7:25 p.m. yesterday to take a report of a brown 1991 Honda Accord stolen during the previous half hour. Police got word today the car was located in Grays Harbor with two occupants, who were booked into jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 20-year-old Chehalis resident detained on an outstanding warrant about 1:30 p.m. yesterday at Lum Road and Reynolds Avenue in Centralia was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine. Kristopher W. Laseke was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• An individual reported the tires on his van were slashed sometime overnight when police were called to the 1600 block of North Scheuber Road in Centralia about 9:30 a.m. yesterday.

• Chehalis police were called to a business at the 100 block of Sturdevant Road about 8:35 a.m. yesterday to take a report of theft and malicious mischief.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• A deputy called about 3:30 p.m. yesterday to a rollover wreck at the 2000 block of Highway 603 learned the 16-year-old driver had swerved when a deer came onto the roadway. The Chehalis girl was uninjured but her Toyota pickup sustained major damage, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The girl’s parents and a tow company were called for retrieval, according to Kimsey.

• Two people were injured when a tanker truck wrecked on U.S. Highway 12 about seven miles east of Packwood yesterday morning. The westbound 2005 Freightliner came to rest on its side pinning the 47-year-old driver from Kennewick in the cab, according to the Washington State Patrol. All lanes were blocked and fuel from the truck leaked onto the road, according to Trooper Will Finn. Finn stated, “The tanker did spring a leak though … Ammonium Hydroxide … No danger to public.” It happened just before 9:30 a.m. near state Route 123. Transported to Morton General Hospital were Melvin B. Jessop and his passenger Linda L. Graves Jessop, also 47, according to the state patrol. The investigating trooper found Jessop lost traction in the slush because he was traveling too fast for conditions. He was cited for that and for not wearing a seat belt. The scene was not entirely cleared until 10 p.m.

CENTRALIA CRIME SPREE

• Police were called to the 100 block of North Washington Avenue in Centralia just after 8 a.m. on Saturday where an individual reported someone shot out a window in their vehicle with a BB gun during the night. A 12-year-old and two 14-year-old boys were identified as suspects and arrested and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case was linked with three other cases: Just after 11 p.m. on Friday, a female reported someone just shot out several windows in her house and her vehicle with a BB gun at the 500 block of West Pine Street. Then at 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, police were called to the 1200 block of North Washington Avenue because someone had broken into a residence where a family was sleeping but then fled. The Chehalis Police K-9 arrived and assisted with trying to locate the suspect who was not found. Just before 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, the police dog located an unreported stolen Honda Pilot a few blocks away, which had gone missing from the 200 block of North Rock Street. Some of the property from the burglary was recovered inside the vehicle, according to police.

ASSAULT

• An intoxicated Centralia woman who reportedly didn’t want her friend to go to jail alone allegedly tried to get into the back seat of a a patrol car after police refused to take her along early Saturday morning at the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia. After that didn’t work, she started physically shoving the officers until that had to arrest her to get her to stop, according to police. Danika M. Lightle, 27, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 10-year-old boy was arrested for fourth-degree assault and booked into Lewis County Juvenile Center for assaulting his father after police were called to the 1000 block of North Scheuber Road at about 2:20 p.m. on Saturday.

BREAK-IN

• A Vader woman called 911 about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday to report that 16 florescent lights which had been hanging in her greenhouse at the 500 block of B Street had been stolen sometime since 10 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A 33-year-old Tenino man was was arrested for attempted residential burglary and on a warrant after police were called about 8:30 a.m. on Friday because he allegedly attempted to break into the victim’s residence at the 1500 block of Sunset Way in Centralia. Thomas E. Labrum, Jr. was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 48-year-old Chehalis woman booked into the Lewis County Jail after police were called about 4:05 p.m. on Sunday for the theft of $1.08 worth of eye drops at the 500 block of South Tower Avenue was allegedly found to in possession of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. Teresa J. Maddux was arrested for both third-degree theft and possession of methamphetamine, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 47-year-old Onalaska man parked in a private driveway on the 400 block of North Military Road in Winlock at about 11 a.m. on Saturday was arrested for trespassing and then for possession of methamphetamine when he reportedly agreed a deputy could search his vehicle and a small vial was found. Clifford L. Stone Jr. was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

THEFT

• Victim reported just before noon on Sunday that a male subject stole three Fit Bit devices valued at $700 at the 1100 block of Johnson Road in Centralia. The case is still under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called to the 900 block of Alder Street at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday where an individual reported a battery was stolen off of his camper sometime within the previous couple of days.

• Chehalis police were called about 6:15 a.m. on Sunday for the theft of a 1993 Honda Accord from the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street. The car was subsequently found unoccupied in mid-turn at the intersection of Second and Cascade avenues with the driver’s door open, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Chehalis police began investigating possible embezzlement after being called about 9:15 a.m. on Friday to the 1500 block of North National Avenue.

FRAUD

• A Winlock area woman called the sheriff’s office on Saturday afternoon to report the discovery that her 15-year-old son had allegedly used her credit card information to make an online purchase of $480 for a World Wrestling Entertainment championship title belt. She cancelled the transaction, the boy was arrested for second-degree identity theft and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Police called about 7:20 p.m. on Friday to the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia arrested a 56-year-old Kent resident for identity theft, prescription forgery and a warrant after she allegedly attempted to fill a forged prescription for Oxycodone and identified herself to police as her sister. Jodie L. Nelson was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were notified just before 3 p.m. on Friday a citizen had received a phone call from someone claiming to be with the IRS, stating there was a warrant for their arrest. The caller advised they would be arrested if they didn’t pay, according to the Centralia Police Department. The citizen knew it was a scam and did not fall victim to it, according to police.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called to the 1200 block of Delaware Avenue where an individual reported about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday seeing juveniles damage his vehicle with rocks.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Two Morton women were injured after a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle drifted to the right, the driver over corrected and then crossed both lanes and overturned in the eastbound ditch yesterday afternoon. Troopers called at 2:10 p.m. to state Route 508 about five miles east of Napavine found the vehicle was totaled, according to the Washington State Patrol. The driver, Rachel S. Whittlesey, 65 and passenger, Susanna M. Veach, 63, were transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to the state patrol. The wreck was blamed on inattention.

VEHICLE THEFT

• A deputy was called to the 700 block of Independence Road last night where a man reported he had been working in the woods and returned to his car about 8 p.m. but it was gone. The gray 1993 Acura Integra had a Stihl chainsaw and a tablet inside, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It had a license plate reading C06345J, according to the sheriff’s office. At one point, the victim had heard a motorcycle in the area, possibly related to the theft, according to Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey.

• The owner of a gray 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck parked it in the morning and returned yesterday afternoon to the 800 block of West Main Street to find it had vanished. Chehalis police called just after 5 p.m. learned the missing vehicle had a 12th Man trailer hitch cover and also contained a chainsaw, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BURGLARY

• An unknown suspect entered a residence at the 400 block of West Center Street in Centralia and stole numerous items to include a gaming system, according to a report made to police about 7:15 p.m. yesterday.

ASSAULT

• Centralia police were called about 9:10 a.m. yesterday to the 800 block of Field Avenue where a 10-year-old boy allegedly punched and kicked three staff members. The boy was currently on probation for assault, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center.

• Centralia police called just before 9 p.m. yesterday to the 1300 block of Harrison Avenue about a man allegedly pushing a neighbor during a dispute are sending a summons for fourth-degree assault to Rick L. Paxton, 65 of Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 40-year-old Chehalis man picked up on a probation violation warrant from a home on the 50 block of Southeast Spring Street in Chehalis about 10:40 p.m. yesterday was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Patrick Ashley was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

• A traffic stop at the intersection of Estep and Forest-Napavine Road about 4:30 p.m. yesterday in which a motorist was found to be driving with a suspended license led to his arrest for possession of methamphetamine. Evan L. Crosby, 40, from Winlock, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A 14-year-old boy was arrested for possession of marijuana after he allegedly brought it to school at the 900 block of Johnson Road in Centralia yesterday morning. Police responding to a call just before 10 a.m. booked the teen into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CHIMNEY FIRE

• Firefighters called about 5:30 p.m. yesterday for a chimney fire at the 8800 block of 178th Avenue Southwest in Rochester found flames had extended into the surrounding structure and got it extinguished within about 15 minutes, according to West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. Chief Robert Scott said the damage to the house was estimated at $25,000. Nobody was hurt, he said.
