ASSAULTS

• Several individuals held a 22-year-old man down in a Centralia street until police arrived following an alleged assault in which he reportedly swung a wallet chain at a neighbor who tried to put a stop to an argument between the man and his girlfriend. Officers called just after 2 p.m. yesterday to the 1000 block of South Tower Avenue were told Jacob Holmgren’s chain hit the 36-year-old neighbor in the back, according to the Centralia Police Department. The injury was minor, according to police. Holmgren was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault, according to police.

• A 34-year-old Centralia man was arrested for second-degree assault after allegedly choking his girlfriend during a fight on Saturday night in Centralia, according to police. Jose L. Navarro Jr. was booked into the Lewis County Jail following the incident at the 1400 block of Johnson Road, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police are looking for a 29-year-old Centralia man after they learned his girlfriend was kicked in the head numerous times until she blacked out. Officers called Friday night about the assault at the 1400 block of Johnson Road were told he was upset because she didn’t bail him out of jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. She was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, Officer John Panco said.

• A 25-year-old woman was arrested for second-degree assault for allegedly using a pair of scissors to stab her boyfriend in the thigh in Packwood on Saturday. The victim told a deputy he thought she was intoxicated and was “out of control” during a dispute, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Amy L. Birka was arrested later in Glenoma and then booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. The prosecutor’s office declined to charge her with a felony, and is evaluating the case for a misdemeanor charge.

BURGLARY

• A resident of the 1300 block of West Main Street in Centralia returned home from work just before 7 a.m. yesterday to discover a burglary but then found police had already recovered the stolen property. Earlier, an officer had come upon a pair of teenage boys on South Tower Avenue carrying duffel bags with a bunch of stuff inside and found it unusual, according to, according to the Centralia Police Department. They said the binoculars, medication, jewelry box and other items belonged to a relative, but the officer took the bags and suggested they have the relative call the police department to claim the goods, Officer John Panco said. Someone had apparently gotten into the home through an unlocked door, according to police. No arrests had been made as of yesterday, police reported.

• Centralia police took a report of a burglary on Saturday evening from a home on the 900 block of Marion Street. “Various items” were taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called about 12:45 p.m. on Saturday to a burglary discovered at the 1200 block of Logan Street in Centralia. Among the missing items were jewelry, DVD movies and home electronics, according to police.

• A portable safe containing vehicle titles was stolen in a burglary on the 500 block of Burchett Road in Onalaska sometime between March 30 and last Wednesday, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning. It was reported on Friday night.

VEHICLE THEFT

• A $25,000 service truck discovered missing Friday from Miles and Sons on the 100 block of Labree Road was found on Saturday near Longview stripped and set on fire. Almost $9,000 worth of tools also missing were not recovered, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• The owner of a stolen pickup truck with a flatbed trailer carrying another vehicle called police on Saturday when she found them stuck and abandoned off Blair Road north of Centralia. The woman, who was at home on the 1000 block of F Street in Centralia, didn’t even know they were missing until someone came knocking on her door, according to the Centralia Police Department. A police department spokesperson said he didn’t know who the person was at the door was or how they knew where her vehicles were.

WALLET THEFT

• A 33-year-old man from Elma was arrested for theft and possession of stolen property on Saturday in connection with a reported visit earlier in the week to a home in an RV park on the 3300 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. An individual had invited Jeremy L. Keith in to talk about purchasing another trailer and Keith reportedly used the resident’s cell phone before leaving with it, a wallet and some keys, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. The victim found his debit card had been used at least five times at gas stations in the Centralia area, Brown said.

CAR PROWLS

• Police were called about 1:15 a.m. today after two individuals were seen near the 100 block of North Diamond Street in Centralia trying to get into several cars on the block. They were seen leaving in a red “import car” with an “off-color” left front fender, according to the Centralia Police Department. No arrests were made.

• Somebody threw a brick through the window of a vehicle parked on the 500 block of North Rock Street and stole a Carhart jacket from inside, according to a report made to Centralia police on Saturday morning.

DRUGS

• A drug sniffing dog from Winlock discovered suspected heroin in a vehicle following a attempted traffic stop late Friday afternoon on the 700 block of West Main Street in Centralia. The 24-year-old driver ran away from the vehicle and was not found, according to Centralia police.

WRECK

• A 52-year-old woman was hospitalized after her motorcycle wrecked just before 5 p.m. yesterday on Southwest Cascade Avenue at First Street. It appeared she hit a curb and suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

FIRE

• Lewis County Fire District 15 was called yesterday afternoon to a fire at one of their own firefighters homes. Assistant Chief Kevin Anderson said fellow firefighter Patrick Jacobson got a phone call from his fiancee who said there was fire in the furnace, told her to hang up and call 911. Jacobson called his step-father, Fire Chief Russ Larson, who arrived at the two-story house on the 500 block of Rhodes Road and used a fire extinguisher to put it out, Anderson said. It burned a little bit of a wall, Anderson said.

SELF-EXTRICATION

• Winlock firefighters were called on Saturday afternoon by a woman in a mobile home who said her washing machine walked across the hallway and blocked her in a bathroom. She called back and had gotten herself out, according to Lewis County Fire District 15.

BURGLARY

• An Onalaska home was burglarized of several guns and other valuables between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. yesterday while a houseguest was inside and unaware of what occurred, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy arriving about 8:40 a.m. at the 300 block of Gore Road was told the woman was in a bedroom and heard someone walking around but thought it was the victim. Also among the missing items were a Browning compound bow, a black two-drawer toolbox, the keys to a truck and about $150 in change, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. The loss is more than $2,200, according to Brown.

• Somebody made off with pots and pans, two pairs of skis and other items from a cabin on the 100 block of Timberline Drive in Packwood. A deputy who took a report yesterday learned that sometime since the owner was last there in February, numerous valuables had been stolen, including an electric leaf blower, antique “trinkets” and a 12-pack of beer, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• A deputy was called yesterday evening to the 700 block of Gish Road in Onalaska where a five gallon container of change had been stolen from an unlocked residence earlier in the day. The deputy learned the woman’s renter had taken it and already returned part of it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.. The case is being referred to the Lewis County Prosecutors Office for possible charges, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

• Police were called about 2:50 p.m. yesterday to the discovery of a burglary discovered at the 800 block of G Street in Centralia. The backdoor window was broken out and computer equipment was missing, according to the Centralia Police Department. Officer John Panco noted several several thefts of computers have been reported in the recent past and suggested folks would be be wise to ensure their password-protection is in place.

THEFT

• A 42-year-old Winlock man was arrested yesterday when he was caught with nearly a half cord of wood in his truck on private property off Jones Road in Winlock. Kelly W. Benfield admitted to loading the wood and told  a deputy he didn’t know who owned the property and didn’t have a permit to cut it, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Benfield was arrested for third-degree theft and second-degree trespass and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

DRUGS

• A 42-year-old Chehalis man was arrested following a traffic stop just after 11 a.m. yesterday on Southwest 16th Street and Kelly Avenue in Chehalis. The officer discovered Joey R. Lang was wanted on a warrant and subsequently found in his pocket some marijuana and a pipe with residue that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Lang was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

BIKE ACCIDENT

• A teenage boy was hospitalized after he wrecked his bicycle on a curb at West Center and North Pearl streets in Centralia yesterday afternoon. Aid and police were called about 2:40 p.m. He had a significant injury to his head, according to Riverside Fire Authority and was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital. The police department described the trip to the emergency room as precautionary and noted the victim had minor injuries to his face and shoulder. Further details were not available.

WHAT’S THAT SMELL

• A Centralia police officer driving through town with his window rolled down smelled the “distinct odor of marijuana” last night and contacted a pedestrian who appeared to be smoking a cigarette. Evaristo V. Tanori, 30, of Centralia, handed over the marijuana cigarette and a search as he was arrested turned up a pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue, according to the Centralia Police Department. It happened just after 10 p.m. at South Tower Avenue and West Chestnut Street, according to police. Tanori was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, according to police.

STOLEN GOODS TURN UP AT LOCAL MOTEL

• A victim of a bicycle theft seeing someone riding what he thought was his bike directed police yesterday to a motel on the 1300 block of Lakeshore Drive in Centralia where officers contacted an individual and noticed what appeared to be other stolen items in the motel room. The occupant, Solano R. Trevino, 51, was arrested for possession of stolen property, according to the Centralia Police Department. The suspicious items observed included cell phones, jewelry, coins, CDs and two Airsoft pistols, according to Officer John Panco. At least some of the valuables were found to have been stolen in a burglary earlier in the day a a residence on the 900 block of E Street, Panco said. Trevino was booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday. He is being released without charges pending further investigation.

BURGLARY

• A Centralia woman called police about 1:30 p.m. yesterday when she discovered a burglary had occurred at her home on the 300 block of West Chestnut Street sometime in the previous hour and a half, according to police. Missing was a purse and two cameras, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 4 p.m. yesterday to a burglary on Southwest Olympic Drive where someone had gone inside a garage converted to a bedroom and stolen an X-box and three games, according to Officer Linda Bailey. At about 6:15 p.m., an officer took a report of another burglary, that seemed to be related, on the 700 block of Southwest 20th Street, Bailey said. Someone had climbed through a bathroom window and made off with an estimated $4,000 of goods, including a flat screen television, a mini-fridge, jewelry, purses, shoes and clothing, according to Bailey.

• An unspecified type and amount of a prescription medication was reportedly stolen from a locked up home on the 1000 block of West Main Street in Centralia sometime on Sunday, according to a report made to police yesterday.

MAIL THEFT

• A deputy was called yesterday to an apparent mail theft on the on the 800 block of Independence Road west of Centralia. A black leather case which had been ordered should have arrived last Thursday, according to a check of a tracking system, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Also not received were a paycheck and a card with cash inside, according to Brown. The victims plan to get a locking mailbox, Brown said.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Police were called about 8:40 a.m. yesterday about a car prowl overnight at the 1200 block of View Avenue in Centralia. A stereo was stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ASSAULT

• Chehalis police were called to Green Hill School yesterday morning after an 18-year-old inmate allegedly threw a shoe at a staff member.

UNOFFICIAL RETIREMENT

• Police were called yesterday to a Chehalis retirement home following the discovery somebody has been sneaking in and using a vacant room to take showers, as well as sleeping in the bed. It happened twice last week at Chehalis West Assist Living Center on the 400 block of Northwest Quincy Place, according to the Chehalis Police Department. It’s a locked facility, and they have changed the locks and are considering security cameras, Officer Linda Bailey said.

ASSAULT

• Chehalis police were called to Green Hill School yesterday morning following a fight in which a 17-year-old inmate allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old inmate and then when staff tried to break it up, one was punched in the eye and the other struck in the jaw. None of the injuries were serious but the case will be referred for possible charges of custodial assault, according to police. The youth remained at the state-run juvenile lock-up facility on Southwest 11th Street, police said.

• Just before noon yesterday, police were called back to Green Hill School after two of the student-inmates got into a fight, according to the Chehalis Police Department. One of them had a cut on the top of his head that might have required stitches, according to police.

DRUGS

• Police were at Centralia High School yesterday morning for a 16-year-old student who was allegedly in possession of marijuana. The boy was not arrested, but the case will be referred for a possible misdemeanor charge, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT

• A 1995 Honda Accord was stolen from the 700 block of Twin Oaks Road west of Chehalis sometime between 3:30 a.m. and about 9 a.m. yesterday, according to the  Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It has a license plate reading 680 XPY.

• Someone went in through a window at a home on the 900 block of H Street in Centralia and stole a computer and as-yet-unspecified other items, according to the Centralia Police Department. The burglary was reported just after 7 p.m. last night.

• Somebody broke the window of a vehicle at the 1200 block of H Street in Centralia and stole a jacket, according to a report made to police yesterday morning.

VEHICLE VERUS PEDESTRIAN

• Centralia police and aid were called to a parking lot about 9:20 p.m. last night where a woman backing out of a parking space struck her boyfriend who had been standing next to the vehicle. The man was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital with unspecified injuries, according to authorities. It happened at the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road.

ASSAULT OF POLICE OFFICER: NOT GUILTY

• A 21-year-old man arrested by Centralia police last September for allegedly elbowing an officer in the face was acquitted today of third-degree assault. Ryan M. Roundtree was in Lewis County Superior Court in front of Judge Richard Brosey. Deputy Prosecutor Joely Yeager described how Officer Adam Haggerty stopped a car for running a red light on Harrison Avenue and subsequently tried to put the passenger Roundtree in handcuffs, but Roundtree raised an arm and elbowed Haggerty in the jaw. Haggerty took him to the ground, where another officer testified he saw them when he arrived, and noted a bump or red mark on Haggerty’s jaw. The driver and a 9-year-old child in the backseat both testified they did not see Roundtree elbow the officer. Roundtree denied it. Defense attorney Jacob Clark told the judge the description of what occurred wasn’t logical. At the close of the one-day bench trial, Brosey said the prosecutor failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the assault occurred. There has to be an intentional, volitional act, Brosey said. “There still has to be something other than mere resistance,” he added. Roundtree was however found guilty of violating a protection order, as the driver was his wife with whom he was prohibited from having contact with.

THEFT

• A deputy was called last night to the 3000 block of Jackson Highway after the discovery a home had been ransacked. There is a “person of interest,” according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

• The theft of a white 2002 International box truck was discovered yesterday in Chehalis. It had last been seen on Friday parked at a business on the 600 block of Northwest West Street, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that a 36-year-old Packwood resident was arrested over the weekend for trafficking in stolen property. A deputy learned on Friday from a Randle resident who had purchased a 2004 Honda motorcycle that flyers were posted listing it as stolen, according to the sheriff’s office. A deputy contacted the named seller, K.C. Dean Mullins, and he was booked for the offense, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a pickup truck reported stolen on Sunday from the 3000 block of Mount Vista Road in Centralia was subsequently found abandoned in south Thurston County.

• Police were called about 11:15 a.m. yesterday about tools stolen from an unlocked garage on the 600 block of Hamilton Avenue in Centralia.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday to Northeast Adams Avenue about a car prowl that occurred over the weekend.

• A security camera was stolen from a building on the 800 block of B Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday.

ARSON IN GARBAGE CAN

• Centralia police took a report yesterday morning of a fire set in a trash can overnight at the 1300 block of Lum Road. Further details were not readily available.

WRECKS

• A 44-year-old Ryderwood woman was hospitalized after a single-vehicle wreck on the 200 block of Plomondon Road near Toledo last night. A deputy responding about 8 p.m. was told by the driver she fell asleep, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The woman was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital with pain in her neck, chest, back and leg, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

• The Olympian reported yesterday a 20-year-old Centralia man died following a motorcycle accident in Lacey on Saturday. News reporter Rolf Boone writes that Jordan M. Clark had been speeding through the Lacey Costco parking lot with his “front wheel off the ground.”

TEEN FLEES POLICE, CAUGHT BY K9

• A 17-year-old Centralia boy was tracked down and captured by a police dog on Friday morning when he fled a vehicle during a traffic stop in the area on Downing Road in Centralia, according to police. It happened about 9 a.m. and the teenager was wanted on a felony warrant, according to the Centralia Police Department. He, and Jason L. Soeby, 33, of Centralia, were both booked for their warrants, according to police.

POLICE: HANDCUFFED MAN THREATENS OFFICER

• Centralia police called to a report of a fight about 11:20 a.m. on Friday at the Peppertree Motel and RV Park ended up arresting one of the participants for felony harassment for allegedly threatening an officer. Joseph E. Leyva, 30, of Kelso, reportedly told an officer something to the effect of “I would f*** you up if I weren’t handcuffed,” according to Officer John Panco. The other subject had left before officers could contact them, Panco said.

POLICE CHASE ENDS WITH ARREST

• A 23-year-old Chehalis man was arrested after a high-speed chase down Interstate 5 that ended when he lost control of his vehicle. It happened shortly after 8:15 p.m. on Thursday when police tried to pull him over for not using his headlights on Southwest Mills Avenue and 14th Street in Chehalis, according to police. Police say Nicholas Gonzalez got off the freeway at the Napavine exit but got right back on and then spun out near milepost 71 before fleeing into the brush. Gonzalez was found and booked into the Lewis County Jail for attempted eluding, according to Officer Linda Bailey.

THEFT

• Power tools were stolen from a home being remodeled on the 1200 block of View Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police on Saturday morning.

• Centralia police are investigating the theft of money and rings from a residence on the 500 block of Woodland Avenue while the victim was in the hospital, according to a report made to an officer on Friday afternoon.

• Police were called about 5:15 p.m. yesterday to the 900 block of Woodland Avenue in Centralia where a FedEx package had been stolen from the door step of a home. The suspect is a blond female who was traveling in a burgundy-colored Honda-type car, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police arrested a 29-year-old Centralia man for allegedly stealing a debit card from a purse at a home on the 400 block of Downing Road in Centralia. Jerimy J. Trudeau was arrested for second-degree theft and for possession of heroin after the approximately noontime Saturday report of the missing card, Officer John Panco said.

• A blue Yamaha 90 quad left on the side of a Salkum-area house on Saturday morning was gone when the family returned home about 5 p.m. that day, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The $1,500 four-wheeler was taken from the 2800 block of U.S. Highway 12, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Police were called about 2:40 p.m. on Friday by a woman who found her mother’s stolen vehicle parked in front of St. Joseph School on the 600 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue in Chehalis. The Isuzu Rodeo missing from Centralia was returned to its owner, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Two different vehicles were prowled near the Borst Park-area baseball fields, according to reports made to Centralia police late Saturday afternoon. Windows were broken and three purses were stolen, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called to the 900 block of Southeast Washington in Chehalis just before 5 p.m. on Friday about a car prowl. Tax documents were missing, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A rear license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle on the 700 block of North Tower Avenue on Friday afternoon, according to the Centralia Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 23-year-old Chehalis woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and suspected marijuana about 9:20 p.m. yesterday on the 200 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue. Destiny Lloyd was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to Officer Linda Bailey.

• Centralia police were called to the emergency room at Providence Centralia Hospital on Saturday evening because a patient, a 27-year-old Chehalis resident, reportedly gave a fake name attempting to acquire narcotics. The case will be referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for a possible charge of forgery, according to police.

VANDALISM

• A 25-year-old Centralia man wanted for allegedly breaking the rear window of a car and then ramming it on the 100 block of Alpha Way in Onalaska last Monday was arrested Friday for second-degree malicious mischief and trespassing. Diego Javier Torres was contacted Friday in Toledo and taken into custody, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

DOWNTOWN FIRE NIPPED

• A Saturday night fire at a glass blowing business in downtown Centralia was limited to a wall, a floor and some personal items when an “occupant” successfully extinguished the blaze before the fire department even arrived, according to Riverside Fire Authority. It happened about 10:35 p.m. on the 100 block of West Main Street at Art Glass, according to Assistant Chief Rick Mack. The damage to about a 20-square-foot area was estimated at $5,000, according to Mack. it apparently ignited when “oven mitts” were set on a combustible surface, Mack stated in a news release.

INTERRUPTED BURGLARY AT COUNTRY COUSIN

• An employee opening up Country Cousin restaurant in Centralia about 4 o’clock this morning encountered two masked subjects inside who quickly fled, according to police. They left through  back door and sped away in what was described as a light-colored “sporty” car, according to the Centralia Police Department. It wasn’t immediately determined what if anything was taken from the business on the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue, police said.

MAN JAILED FOR ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING POLICE

• A 30-year-old man was arrested at his Centralia home when he reportedly scuffled with officers who arrived to investigate a dispute last night. Police were called just after 7 p.m. to the 2200 block of Cooks Hill Road because Jesse J. Wheeler had allegedly assaulted his fiance and, police say, he threatened officers and then lunged. When they “took him to the ground,” Wheeler struggled and an officer was kicked in the leg, according to the Centralia Police Department. Wheeler sustained what were described as minor injuries and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault. A potential charge of misdemeanor assault for grabbing his girlfriend is pending, according to police.

BURGLARY

• Someone ransacked a home on the 100 block of Cinebar Road in Cinebar sometime between last Friday and yesterday morning, according to a report made to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It wasn’t clear what if anything was stolen because the person reporting the incident was taking care of the home for its resident, an 81-year-old man who was at a nursing home, according to the sheriff’s office.

• A deputy was called about 9 p.m. yesterday to a home on the 3700 block of state Route 508 in Cinebar when a burglary was discovered. A television had been moved to near the front door and a surround sound system was noted as missing, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The intruder had “looked though everything” in the home, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

• Police were called just before 4 p.m. yesterday to the report of a residential burglary at the 300 block of East Maple Street in Centralia. Approximately $7 was taken, according to the Centralia Police Department.

AUTO THEFT

• Someone stole a black 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII while its owner was warming it up just before 8 o’clock yesterday morning in Centralia. The car missing from the 200 block of West Plum Street has a temporary tag in its back window, according to police.

• Police were called about 8:15 a.m. yesterday to the 1500 block of Lewis Street in Centralia where a red 1994 Isuzu was stolen during the night. The vehicle has a license plate of 962 TVW, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Chehalis police were called yesterday at 12:30 p.m. about a car prowl at the 2100 block of North National Avenue. Medication was taken, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DRUGS

• A 29-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine about 10:30 p.m. after contact with police on the 1300 block of North Pearl Street in Centralia. Conrad J. Perry was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called to the train depot about 1:10 p.m. yesterday where several outdoor light fixtures were broken, appearing to have been shot out with  BB gun. The loss is more than $1,000, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning they were called on Monday to a house on the 100 block of Prairie Lane in Salkum at which someone had shot yellow paint balls. The individual who called about the mess said it would cost probably $1,000 to fix because the home would have to be repainted, according to the sherif’s office.

DIESEL SPILL CLOSES MAIN STREET IN CHEHALIS

Chehalis Avenue was shut down at Main Street late yesterday afternoon after a semi truck leaving the Darigold plant ripped a hole in one of its fuel tanks and spilled diesel on the road. The fire department blocked the stream but not before an estimated 20 to 30 gallons ran into the storm drain, according to Fire Capt. Casey Beck. Responders used lots of so-called kitty litter and even shovels of dirt from next to the sidewalk to contain it and the state Department of Ecology was called in, Beck said.
