BAR FIGHT NIGHT IN CENTRALIA

• Two men were checked by medics and one of them taken to the hospital after a fight last night at the Hub Tavern on the 100 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia. Police said an unknown bar patron assaulted the pair around midnight. Police responded regarding two women getting in a fight in front of a drinking establishment in the same area, according to the Centralia Police Department. The investigations are ongoing, according to police.

MISSING MONEY

• Police were summoned yesterday to the 1000 block of Eckerson Road in Centralia to investigate the theft of a large amount of cash. They have a suspect, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT OF GARDEN IMPLEMENT

• A machete was reported stolen from the 1400 block of Crescent Avenue in Centralia on Friday. It wasn’t the same one wielded by a pedestrian the day before along North Pearl Street, according to police.

GRAVEL TOSSER AT LARGE

• Centralia police were called about 12:25 p.m. yesterday when an individual said they were struck in the face by a rock thrown by someone in a passing Jeep at the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia. The victim was not injured, according to police.

VANDALISM

• Someone broke a window at Centralia City Hall, according to a report taken by police on Friday morning.

WRECKS

• A 45-year-old man was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after an ATV accident off the 1700 block of Bunker Creek Road west of Centralia yesterday afternoon. Firefighters called for an airlift because of possible internal injuries, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

• A Chehalis woman was one of two people airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle last night after their motorcycle was hit by a car on U.S. Highway 101 in Quilcene north of Hood Canal. Troopers called just before 8 p.m. concluded the southbound Harley Davidson was struck in the side when a Geo Prism parked on the shoulder pulled into traffic to make an improper U-turn, according to the Washington State Patrol. Hospitalized was Shalina R. McDonald, 33, and the motorcycle’s driver Christopher S. Lofer, 41, of Yelm, according to the state patrol.

NEW FACES PATROLLING LOCAL HIGHWAYS

• Five new troopers have joined the state patrol detachments in Lewis County following their graduation from the Washington State Patrol Academy. They were among 27 individuals sworn in earlier this month after completing 1,000 hours of training, according to Sgt. Freddy Williams. The top shooter in the class, Ezra N. Andersen, from Vancouver, was assigned to work out of Chehalis. Torson A. Iverson, from Elma, who finished with the highest grade point average was assigned to Chehalis as well, according to Williams. Also now working out of Chehalis are Jacob R. Brewer, from Spokane; and Ryan W. Hagreen, from Carnation, according to the state patrol. Assigned to the Morton office is James C. Johnson, from Puyallup. Patrick J. Williams, from Rochester, graduated with the same group and was assigned to work out of Bellingham, according to the state patrol.

• The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding the public that fireworks must be purchased from licensed retail fireworks stands for the upcoming Fourth of July and may not legally purchased over the Internet. In Washington, fireworks sales begin at noon on Friday and continue for one week, with the legal discharge period ending at 11 p.m. each night, except on Independence Day when they are allowed until midnight. Some cities in neighboring counties however have banned them altogether; including Olympia, Lacey and Woodland. Further time restrictions apply inside the city limits of Tumwater, several towns in Grays Harbor County, and they are banned or restricted in many towns in Yakima and Pierce counties. MACHETE WIELDING PEDESTRIAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

• A man walking along a Centralia street swinging a machete angrily yesterday afternoon found himself at gunpoint after he menaced an approaching officer in an unmarked vehicle. It just before 4 p.m. at 1200 block of North Pearl Street, near Sixth Street, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police say Jeremy D. Leatherman shed his sweatshirt and “flexed” while staring at the officer. A second officer pulled out a gun, Leatherman ran and dropped his machete, Sgt. Kurt Reichert said. There was no explanation as to why he was carrying the garden tool, according to police. “He was spun,” Reichert said. Leatherman was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of methamphetamine.

BRAWL LEADS TO FRACTURED FACE BONES

• A 37-year-old client at a Chehalis drug and alcohol treatment center was arrested for second-degree assault yesterday for allegedly breaking bones in a fellow resident’s face during a fight the night before. An officer called to American Behavioral Health on the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue learned the 46-year-old victim had been taken to the hospital. Booked into the Lewis County Jail was Billy Joe King, according to the Chehalis Police Department. He is to be be released without charge pending further investigation.

OFFICERS, K-9, TRACK ASSAULT SUSPECT THROUGH “JUNGLE”

• A second person was arrested yesterday for an assault after he was spotted off “Jungle Road” in Centralia and took off running. At about 2:45 p.m. an officer tried to contact some individuals walking in the railroad right away that begins near East Maple Street and after he suspected one who fled was a wanted person, summoned other officers to “set up a perimeter,” according to Sgt. Kurt Reichert. A police dog found 22-year-old Billy J. Bartlett hiding in some brush farther north, according to police. Bartlett, a Centralia resident, was taken to be treated for puncture wounds to his thigh and then booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, Reichert said. The assault of a male occurred early Tuesday morning in the 1300 block of Windsor Avenue. Damen J. Kroll, 24, Chehalis, was arrested earlier this week for the same incident.

STOLEN FIREARM

• A Chehalis resident reported yesterday someone stole his muzzle loader from under his bed sometime since Sunday. An officer was told the front door had been left unlocked by another occupant who left the home on the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street, according to the Chehalis Police Department. There are no suspects, police said.

STOLEN SMOKER

• A 60-year-old man from Yelm called the sheriff’s office yesterday after discovering his Brinkmann double-burner smoker was stolen from outside his trailer at a campsite at Taidnapam Park south of Glenoma. The victim said at about 11:30 the night before he heard a small car with a loud muffler pull up and stop. The $200 smoker is green with black paint on the bottom, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

VANDALISM

• Someone broke out a window and tried to kick in a door at the Centralia railroad station last night. Centralia police said a male was seen doing it but no arrest was made.

• Centralia police took reports yesterday of gang-style graffiti left at the baseball field on 900 block of Johnson Road as well as on three buildings and the viaduct in the area of the 100 block of Sixth Street. They seem to be related to one another, according to the Centralia Police Department.

WINLOCK MAN STOPS HOUSE FIRE

• Firefighters were called just before 5 p.m. yesterday to a home on the 900 block of Northeast First Street in Winlock after a resident smelled smoke and discovered a fire burning in a storage area attached to the home. He put it out with a garden hose and the damage was minimal, according to Lewis County Fire District 15. It seemed it might have ignited from an improperly disposed of cigarette butt, Assistant Chief Kevin Anderson said.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• A 38-year-old Randle man was off to prison this morning for 28 years and four months to life following his sentencing this week in Lewis County Superior Court. David C. Haviland was convicted last month of five counts of rape of a child in connection with sexual assaults of a young relative over a three year period beginning when she was 13 years old. After he’s served his minimum sentence, the former longtime Hampton Mill employee will go before an indeterminate sentence review board which will decide if or when he can be released. A judge signed an order prohibiting Haviland from contact with the victim for the rest of his life. His attorney filed a notice of appeal.

TRUCK VERSUS TREE

• A 63-year-old Randle man was airlifted after he suffered severe injuries when his pickup truck ran off Centralia-Alpha Road and hit a tree yesterday afternoon. Firefighters called about 2:30 p.m. to the scene, east of Logan Hill Road outside Chehalis, had to cut a door off the vehicle to get the patient out, according to Lewis County Fire District 6. He was picked up by a helicopter at a nearby private airstrip off Hewitt Road, according to Firefighter Mike Goodwillie.

FELONY ASSAULTS

• Police responding to the 400 block of West Cherry Street about 9:40 p.m. yesterday arrested a 24-year-old woman for bringing a golf club into a domestic dispute. Kindra R. Youckton was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police say Youckton had pushed her boyfriend, he slapped her and then when he was turned around “packing up stuff” she struck him across the back with the club. Twenty-five-year-old Eric Davidson was arrested for fourth-degree assault for his role in the fight, and then was released pending a court hearing, according to police. Youckton is to be released without charge pending further investigation.

• A 24-year-old Chehalis man was arrested for second-degree assault after police responded to disputes in the area of the 1300 block of Windsor Avenue in Centralia early Tuesday morning. The victim said he saw a male throw a female down and after he tried to intervene, he was chased and attacked. Damen J. Kroll, 24, subsequently arrested and was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

• A 47-year-old Rochester man was arrested yesterday for second-degree rape in connection with a Memorial Day weekend incident at a small gathering near Adna after the bars closed in which he allegedly took advantage of a young woman who was extremely intoxicated. “She was unconscious apparently from the alcohol,” Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Steve Aust said. The 28-year-old woman had been with friends at a downtown Chehalis bar and left with three males to go to a home on Curtis Hill Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Michael T. Taylor allegedly also assaulted two others present who tried to stop him, according to the sheriff’s office. Taylor was booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday.

DRUGS

• Centralia police responded to a possible fight about 3:30 a.m. today on West Maple Street near the police department and ended up arresting a 42-year-old man with a warrant who had suspected methamphetamine on him, according to the Centralia Police Department. Dale A. Drew, a Centralia resident, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

THEFT

• Chehalis police are investigating the theft of a $35,000 excavator from Chehalis Rentals on Northwest Louisiana Avenue. An officer called to the business yesterday was told a woman rented the piece of equipment for four hours but but it’s been a couple of weeks and she hasn’t yet returned it, according to police.

• Chehalis police were called to Kit Carson restaurant yesterday on Southwest Interstate Avenue following the discovery hundreds of dollars were missing from the business. The case is under investigation, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A deputy was called last night after a shed was discovered broken into at the 100 block of Mineral Creek Road in Minter. Someone forcibly entered and left with about two gallons of gasoline as well as a green plastic garden cart, according to the  Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened sometime after 7 p.m. on Sunday, according to the sheriff’s office.

COUNTERFEIT BILL

• Police were called about 6:15 p.m. yesterday to a business on the 600 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia where a customer attempted to spend a phony $100 bill. No arrest was made, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police were called yesterday afternoon to the 1200 block of Mellen Street when the owner of the vacant building discovered damage inside. The former King Solomon’s restaurant has been vandalized over time, according to the Centralia Police Department.

TODDLER FALLS FROM WINDOW

• Aid was called about 6:15 p.m. yesterday after a 2-year-old child fell out the window of an apartment on the 1400 block of Johnson Road in Centralia. The toddler ended up being okay, but was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital to be checked out, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• The 33-year-old convicted of sneaking into a Napavine bar and taking nearly $15,000 cash from its safe was sentenced yesterday to eight years and eight months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $10,000 in fines and fees as well as to repay the money he stole. Lewis County Superior Court Judge James Lawler told Lonzo W. Lawson II he must make payments of at least $25 each month beginning in 60 days. Lawson was found guilty earlier this week of breaking into Frosty’s Saloon and Grill in early April and then spending most of the proceeds on partying; he gave some to two friends who he’d asked to come with him, but chickened out, according to attorneys in the case. Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Shane O’Rourke said the owner should be getting back the nearly $2,500 that was recovered and then as a victim, will be first in line to receive reimbursement from Lawson’s monthly obligation.

BAD EMPLOYEE

• A 31-year-old worker at a Centralia warehouse was arrested yesterday for allegedly punching his supervisor in the face. A deputy called to Millard Refrigerated Services at the Port of Centralia off Harrison Avenue was told Michael J. Erhardt, of Kelso, assaulted the 49-year-old Chehalis man and then left, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy subsequently contacted Erhardt and booked him into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, according to the sheriff’s office. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said it is unknown what the argument was about.

BAD NEIGHBOR

• The sheriff’s office reported this morning a 54-year-old Silver Creek man was arrested for allegedly kissing his 16-year-old neighbor’s head, face and neck when he gave her a ride home. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said a deputy took a report on Saturday about that day’s incident and contacted Barry R. Engeseth on Monday to take him into custody. The girl said she got a ride from the Texaco station in Silver Creek by Engeseth because she knows him, but he stopped Ike Kinswa Park on the way and he kissed her and tried to grab her breasts before taking her home, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Engeseth was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation, according to Brown.

BAD DRIVERS

• Police were called when a vehicle ran into the exterior of the Centralia Women’s Center on the 1000 block of South Schueber Road in Centralia just after 7 p.m. yesterday. The damage was minor and nobody was hurt, according to police.

• The sheriff’s office is looking for an older red car, possibly a Geo Metro, that struck a 17-year-old Chehalis girl’s car last night at Highway 603 and Brown Road East outside Chehalis. A deputy called about 10:20 p.m. was told the car pulled out from a stop sign in front of the girl’s Honda Civic causing her to lose control and then struck the driver’s side of her car but left the scene, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The damage to her car was minor, according to the sheriff’s office.

BAD PIECE OF EQUIPMENT

• An explosion yesterday afternoon in the Chehalis Industrial Park included a fireball and damage to a piece of equipment but nobody was injured. Firefighters were called to Conrad Industries, a business on the 100 block of Melhart Road which recycles tires, at about 2 p.m. and found one of the workers spraying water, but there was no fire left to put out, according to Lewis County Fire District 6. They have something called a “heat cyclone” which was apparently shut down but for whatever reason built up pressure, according to Firefighter Matt Foley. The force of it broke bolts that allowed a metal lid to fly up and put a hole in the ceiling, he said. It also broke a four-inch pipe in half, he said.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police took a report about 1:40 a.m. today of a vehicle prowl at the 2000 block of Borst Avenue. Stolen was a Pioneer stereo and a purse, according to the Centralia Police Department.

WINLOCK MAN HOSPITALIZED AFTER ACCIDENT WITH FIRE

• A Winlock resident in his 20s was airlifted to a Portland hospital yesterday for injuries he sustained when he apparently was attempting to ignite a burn pile using gasoline. “It flashed on him and he received burns severe enough he needed to go to a specialty burn unit,” Lewis County Fire District Assistant Chief Kevin Anderson said. It happened about 3:30 p.m. at the 1500 block of King Road. The patient was taken to the elementary school to be picked up by a helicopter and taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, according to Anderson. Firefighters advise it’s never safe to use gasoline to fuel a fire, Anderson said.

CENTRALIA AREA WOMAN RUN OVER BY SMALL PICKUP TRUCK

• A woman in her late 70s was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after she was run over by her own small pickup truck west of Centralia yesterday. Firefighters called about 3:30 p.m. to the end of Lincoln Creek Road found the patient conscious and alert but because of her age and the way the incident occurred, sent her to the regional trauma center, according to Riverside Fire Authority. “She was able to get up on her own and call 911, it had rolled across her chest,” Firefighter-Paramedic Jesse Berry said.

ALCOHOL OVERDOSE

• A 16-year-old Toledo boy was hospitalized early this morning with apparent acute alcohol poisoning and his neighbor is in trouble for allegedly providing the beer he got drunk on. Deputies were called about 3:45 a.m. to the 5400 block of Jackson Highway, where the teen was so intoxicated and out-of-control his father had to hold him down, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The boy passed out and aid was called, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. An investigation found the 16-year-old had been at a neighbor’s bonfire, until his parents were called to come and get him because he was incoherent and combative, according to Brown. The case involving the 20-year-old neighbor will be referred to prosecutors for a possible charge of providing a premises for minor in possession, Brown said. The case involving the boy will be referred for a charge of minor in possession, she said.

FIGHT

• Centralia police were called overnight to the 1300 block of Windsor Avenue about a  person being assaulted by two males. The suspects fled before officers arrived, according to the Centralia Police Department. Sgt. Brian Warren said the male victim was taken to the hospital and the investigation is ongoing so he didn’t yet have more details.

POSSIBLE BURGLARY

• A woman who lives on South Market Boulevard in Chehalis called police yesterday evening to say she suspected someone had been slipping inside her apartment while she was away and stealing food. The residence previously wasn’t secured as well as it could be, but that has been remedied, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

GAS DRIVE OFF

• Chehalis police were called to a gas station on West Main Street about 4:40 a.m. today to a report a motorist fueled up and left without paying. The loss is more than $100, according to the Chehalis Police Department

DRUGS

• A 27-year-old resident of Pacific Beach was arrested about 1 a.m. today for a warrant and possession of methamphetamine after he was contacted by an officer at Southwest 18th Street and Kelly Avenue in Chehalis. Police found a baggie of suspected meth and a pipe in the pockets of Matthew L. Emery, according to the Chehalis Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

THEFT

• Morton police reported they were called on Sunday to the 100 block of Collar Avenue where someone had stolen lawn ornaments – solar lights and a solar flower.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Centralia police took a report about 8:20 p.m. yesterday of a window broken out of a vehicle at the 1300 block of Windsor Avenue.

• A 37-year-old Centralia area man called the sheriff’s office yesterday to report he noticed on Saturday that his handgun had disappeared from where he put it under the seat of his pickup truck. The gun is a Kel-Tec 32 semiautomatic with a seven-round magazine, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Two holsters were missing as well, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. He suspected the theft could have occurred sometime since June 8 at the 600 block of Dobson Court in Chehalis, his sister’s apartment where he has spent a lot of time and at least one time left a window cracked open, according to the sheriff’s office.

NOT ANIMAL ABUSE

• A call last week about suspected animal abuse at the 600 block of Westlake Avenue in Morton wasn’t what it seemed, according to police. An officer was told someone was hitting a dog on the evening of June 10, according to the Morton Police Department. The owner was hitting the dog, because it had a smaller dog in its mouth and the owner was trying to get the adult dog to drop it, according to police. The little dog was okay, according to police.

ANOTHER CENTRALIA RESIDENT SLEEPS THROUGH HOME BURGLARY

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office was called about 1:45 p.m. yesterday to a home north of Centralia where a 53-year-old woman said someone broke in while she was sleeping and stole two handguns, a diamond ring, medication and other items. The guns missing from the 100 block of Wakefield Drive are a 22 caliber Ruger and 22 caliber Taurus, according to the sheriff’s office. The loss is estimated at $11,000. Details about exactly when and how the burglary occurred without the victim waking up were not readily available.

CHEHALIS’S NEW POLICE DOG AT WORK

• Chehalis police were called about 3:15 a.m. today when someone tried to steal a motorcycle out of a yard on the 400 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue. Police arrested one man who was found hiding nearby and second man who accidentally ran up onto responding officers, according to Chehalis Police Department. The new police dog tracked down possible evidence including a phone and methamphetamine, according to police. Booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, burglary and theft was Tony Chafin, 27, of Chehalis, detective Sgt. Gary Wilson said. Also booked was Ernest A. Calderon, 42, of Chehalis, for possession of meth, burglary and theft, according to Wilson.  Chafin was charged this afternoon with possession of methamphetamine, theft of a motor vehicle and residential burglary. Calderon is likely to face his charges tomorrow.

ATTEMPTED BREAK-IN

• Police were called abut 6:15 a.m. today when employees arriving at Picasso Brothers on the 1000 block of South Gold Street discovered someone had cut phone and power lines unsuccessfully attempting to defeat a security system. Pry marks were found on the drive through window of the business, according to the Centralia Police Department. Nothing appears to have been stolen, police said.

THEFT IN RANDLE

• Someone stole a pressure washer, a chainsaw, a battery, a push mower and a trolling motor from a garage at the 600 block of Peters Road in Randle,  according to a report made to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office yesterday. It happened sometime between Thursday and Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office. The loss is listed at $700, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

RESIDENTIAL THEFT IN CHEHALIS

• Somebody broke out a window and burglarized a home on Southwest Ninth Street in Chehalis, according to a report made to police about 6:25 a.m. on Saturday. Taken were televisions, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BREAK-IN IN PACKWOOD

• A deputy was called about 8:30 a.m. yesterday regarding a break-in to a home for sale on the 100 block of Alpine Drive in Packwood. The owner, a 68-year-old Arizona woman, said there was nothing worth taking, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

TOOLS TAKEN

• Centralia police took a report about 8 p.m. on Saturday about tools stolen from a carport on the 500 block of Madison Street.

• A chainsaw was reported stolen on Friday from the 500 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia.

MISSING FOOTWEAR

• Chehalis police took a report about 12:20 a.m. on Sunday from a male who said someone stole his shoes while he was napping on the grass at the Chehalis library.

CAR LOST AND FOUND

• A 1991 Honda Civic reported stolen around noon on Friday from the Wal-Mart parking lot in Chehalis was discovered about 1:40 a.m. today parked in the nearby Twin City Town Center, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

GROUP DETAINED AFTER NUMEROUS RETAIL THEFTS

• Four young people from the Portland area were arrested on Saturday night at the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue in Chehalis after allegedly shoplifting items from three stores in Chehalis as well as five businesses in Centralia. Booked into the Lewis County Jail for organized retail theft were two 18-year-old, Roshayla J. Campbell and Charleshia Dobson; two juveniles were booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, detective Sgt. Gary Wilson said.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Police were called about 9 p.m. yesterday regarding a car prowl on Caveness Drive in Centralia. Stolen was a cell phone while its owner was taking a walk, according to the Centralia Police Department.

NEIGHBORHOOD DISPUTE

• A neighbor was hit in the chin by a beer bottle someone tossed from a large party on the 300 block of Southwest Third Street in Chehalis at about 2 a.m. on Saturday. When police arrived, people had scattered and nobody was arrested, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

UNWANTED 911 CALLS

• After approximately eight phone calls to 911 by a Packwood man who was making no sense and told to stop calling, a deputy went to the 400 block of Cannon Road at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday and arrested 64-year-old Albert A. Nolette, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Nolette was booked in to the Lewis County Jail for telephone harassment, according to the sheriff’s office.

DOMESTIC DISPUTES

• Police were called about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday to the 1000 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia after a 27-year-old Centralia man allegedly knocked over a lamp and three pictures inside his girlfriend’s home. He took off before police arrived but was found hiding not far away. Chehalis police said their new dog “made contact” with the suspect, who was then taken to the hospital to be checked out for a dog bite. Derrick L. Whitcomb was then booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree malicious mischief,  according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 20-year-old Centralia woman was arrested about 11:30 p.m. on Friday after police were called to the 500 block of Hunt Street in Centralia to a complaint she assaulted her boyfriend and threw his iPhone in to the toilet during an argument. Melissa S. Boe was booked into the Lewis County Jail for misdemeanor assault and malicious mischief, according to the Centralia Police Department,

VANDALISM

• Centralia police took reports about 5:40 p.m. on Saturday regarding someone who sprayed paint on multiple vehicles as they walked past them on the 900 block of South Tower Avenue.

DRUGS

• Chehalis police were called to Green Hill School over the weekend after staff discovered a plastic baggie of suspected marijuana in an inmate’s trash bin. The substance was taken into evidence and the 17-year-old faces potential charges of possessing drugs, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A 23-year-old Chehalis woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine about 5 a.m. on Saturday in Centralia. Officers contacted Jennie B. Young at the 500 block of South Rock Street and then booked her into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Nineteen-year-old Xochilt O. Martinez Sanchez, of Centralia, was arrested for possession of marijuana about 3 a.m. on Saturday after contact with police at East Sixth and B streets in Centralia. He was cited and then released, according to the Centralia Police Department,

WRECKS

• A 25-year-old Chehalis area woman who said she left an Onalaska area party following a fight with her fiancee was arrested for allegedly stealing a nearby pickup truck she found with it keys in it and then wrecking the truck early Sunday morning. A deputy called about 7:30 a.m. to the 2300 block of state Route 508. Shanna M. Bice, reportedly told a deputy she left on foot, got cold and needed to get back to Chehalis to check on her child. According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Bice said she knocked on a door and getting no answer, took the 2000 Ford F350, but the windows quickly fogged out and she ended up rolling the pickup. Bice was taken to the hospital and then booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree theft, according to the sheriff’s office. She was charged this afternoon instead with theft of a motor vehicle and released from jail pending trial on a $5,000 unsecured bond, co-signed by her fiancee.

• A 79-year-old Longview resident ended up with just a minor cut to his hand when his truck collided with a  tree on the 400 block of Toledo-Vader Road west of Toledo on Saturday. A deputy called at 1:30 p.m. to the scene was told the man looked over his left shoulder and then his truck veered to the left into the ditch and ran into the tree, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The 1998 Chevrolet S10 was totaled, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver was cited for “wheels off the roadway,” Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

• A 70-year-old Vader man escaped injury in a rollover wreck on Saturday on the 1300 block of Winlock-Vader Road south of Winlock. A deputy called about 11 a.m. was told by the driver his rear tire blew out, he overcorrected and then hit the ditch, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. His 1992 Ford R-10 pickup was described as totaled. He was cited for defective equipment, according to the sheriff’s office.

GARAGE BURNS

• The cause of a garage fire yesterday afternoon in Grand Mound is under investigation. Crews called just after 4 p.m. to the 19000 block of Elderberry Street Southwest found the detached building fully involved in flames with a partial roof collapse, according to West Thurston Regional Fire Authority. The blaze was brought under control within about 15 minutes, Chief Robert Scott said. Nobody was injured, according to Scott.

THEFT

• Chehalis police were called yesterday regarding three local businesses receiving checks that may be from an account that has been compromised. The case is under investigation.

• Chehalis police took a report of a theft from a business on North National Avenue yesterday. The case is under investigation.

DRUGS

• A 15-year-old girl was arrested for having a marijuana bud in her purse while at a dance at Centralia Middle School last night. A faculty member noticed she left and went to the park area off the 900 block of Johnson Road, followed her and asked her to return, and then asked if she had anything in her purse, according to police. She pulled out a baggie of suspected marijuana, according to Officer John Panco.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Someone stole a Stihl chainsaw from a work truck at the 1000 block of Eckerson Road in centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday.

VANDALISM

• Police were called to a bank on the 600 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia yesterday  afternoon after damage was discovered on its outside ATM machine. It was scratched as though someone tried to pull the front of it open, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ACCIDENTS

• Chehalis police were called about 6:50 p.m. yesterday to the 100 block of North Market Boulevard where a van had taken out a fence and ended up wedged between a building and an embankment. The 16-year-old driver said it was difficult to get in reverse and he accidentally went forward instead, according to police.

• A 69-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for driving under the influence after she allegedly hit the viaduct near Kresky Avenue and then a light pole as she pulled into a Centralia parking lot yesterday evening. Dorothy J. Mills was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. Mills also had a suspended license and an outstanding warrant, according to police.

• A 30-year-old Centralia man who was riding a bicycle and hit by a truck yesterday in Chehalis has been treated and released from the hospital. Police and aid called about noon yesterday to the 1500 block of North National Avenue found Thomas S. Simpson had been traveling north on the sidewalk when a Ford F450 pulled out from a parking lot. Simpson was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to the Washington State Patrol. The truck was not damaged and its driver, Robert A. Steele, 51, from Centralia, was unhurt, according to the state patrol. The cause is under investigation and charges are pending, according to the investigating trooper.

OTHER

• Chehalis police responded just before 7 p.m. yesterday to a call in which a young woman on Northeast Jefferson Avenue heard what she thought was a gunshot and then a female screaming. Officers didn’t find the source of the gunshot noise but did locate a woman who said she was screaming because she was so excited her daughter got a job, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
