K-9: YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN’T HIDE, FOR LONG

• A 37-year-old Centralia man was arrested for attempting to elude police after he failed to elude them following an attempted traffic stop in downtown Centralia last night. Centralia police say it was around 9 p.m. and a simple violation, but the vehicle sped out Seminary Hill Road at more than 60 mph. Officers terminated the pursuit because of bad weather but located the suspect’s truck empty in his own yard and the suspected driver hiding under his house, according to the Centralia Police Department. Lewis County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Axel tracked from the vehicle to behind the residence and found Daniel H. Morton, the sheriff’s office reports. Morton was booked into the Lewis County Jail and faces possible further charges of resisting arrest, driving under the influence and driving without a required interlock device, according to police.

BREAK-IN CENTRALIA

• Police were called to the 2600 block of Eureka Avenue in Centralia about 5:15 p.m. yesterday regarding a burglary. There was some minor ransacking and items moved around, but nothing seemed to be missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police were called to the 500 block of North Buckner Street yesterday just after noon regarding the theft of a ring from a home.

AUTO THEFT

• A red 1992 Chevrolet Lumina was stolen from behind a tavern on the 100 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 6:30 p.m. yesterday.

PORNOGRAPHIC PICTURE ARREST

• A 21-year-old Napavine man was arrested at his home yesterday following a short investigation conducted by Chehalis police involving allegations of exchanging pornographic images or an image with a minor, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Tristan J. McNeill was booked into the Lewis County Jail, for possession and viewing unlawful images, according to police. The individual depicted is someone he knows, a teenager, detective Sgt. Gary WIlson said.

CENTRALIA HOME BURGLED

• Someone broke into a home on the 2100 block of Salzer Valley Road in Centralia yesterday between 12:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. taking a 32-inch Emerson television, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim noted some of her belongings were moved around in her bedroom as well, according to the sheriff’s office.

TOLEDO RESIDENCE BREAK-IN

• Deputies responding to a burglary alarm just after 1 p.m. yesterday at the 500 block of Jackson Highway South in Toledo found the front door wide open but nobody inside the home, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. There was a hole through the front door window and a pry mark on the door, but nothing missing, according to the sheriff’s office. The alarm is believed to have scared the person away, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

CHEHALIS SHED BURGLED

• Chehalis police were called about 8:30 a.m. yesterday about tools and equipment missing from a shed on the 300 block of Southwest Third Street.

MONEY MISSING

• Police were called to the Chehalis Post Office yesterday by a male who said his cousin had sent him 12 one-hundred dollar bills via certified mail but the envelope had been opened and taped shut again and the money was missing. Further details were not readily available.

OTHER THEFT

• Chehalis police took a report of a second-degree theft yesterday afternoon from the 1600 block of  Northwest Louisiana Avenue. Further details were not readily available.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday morning by a female who said someone else picked up her prescription from the 500 block of South Market Boulevard. Further details were not readily available.

WRECK

• A trailer behind a semi-truck overturned on Interstate 5 in Chehalis early this morning blocking all lanes. No injuries were reported from the approximately 4:15 a.m. accident southbound near West Street but the roadway was not cleared until just after 7 a.m., according to authorities. Ricardo J. Vila, 34, from Vancouver, went off the roadway to the right, due to inattention, and overcorrected causing the wreck, according to the Washington State Patrol. His 2015 Freightliner tractor was undamaged, but the trailer totaled, according to the state patrol. He was to be issued a citation for negligent driving, the investigating trooper reports.

ALLEGED DRUG DEALING FOUND ABOVE RETAIL SHOP

• Centralia police’s special Anti-Crime Team arrested a man and scooped up drugs, scales and money when they served a search warrant at an apartment above Smokin J’s yesterday evening. Among the items seized were almost two ounces of heroin, one-half ounce of methamphetamine and more than $2,400 cash, according to the Centralia Police Department. The resident, Matthew J. Goff, was arrested for delivery of a controlled substance, Sgt. Jim Shannon said. Another individual present was not arrested, he said. The visit to the building on the corner of West Main and Oak streets followed a lengthy investigation, according to police. Goff, 29, was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

MAJOR THEFT NEAR TOLEDO

• Unknown thieves hit a rock quarry outside Toledo over the weekend, removing various types of heavy duty, industrial grade copper wiring from the rock crusher and other equipment. The dollar loss is still being tallied up, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responding about 9:15 a.m. yesterday to the 500 block of Mandy Road learned from the 29-year-old victim the theft occurred sometime since Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. It was just the weekend before last when a rock pit in Centralia on Foron Road suffered an estimated $6,000 loss of wiring. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said they don’t know if the two incidents are related.

POSSIBLE FRAUD

• Chehalis police were called last night from an individual who said he lost his wallet and discovered soon after a card of his was used at a local grocery tore. Further details were not readily available.

WRECKS

• A 59-year-old log truck driver was injured when his air brakes failed as he was traveling downhill around a corner near Mineral Creek Road yesterday morning. The loaded truck came to rest on its driver’s side in the ditch on the logging road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responding around 11 a.m. found the 2005 Kenworth had major damage. The driver, who is from Camas, was taken to Morton General Hospital with neck and shoulder pain, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown. The driver was cited for defective equipment, Brown said.

• A 61-year-old Onalaska man escaped injury when he rolled his pickup truck into a ditch along the 300 block of Middle Fork Road yesterday afternoon. The 2006 Ford F250 sustained major damage,  according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responding about 3 p.m. was told by the driver he was eastbound when his back end started slipping while headed up the hill, causing him to lose control, according to the sheriff’s office.

HOUSE FIRE CONTAINED TO KITCHEN

• Nobody was home and nobody was injured when a fire broke out yesterday afternoon in a house near the Newaukum Valley Golf Course off Jackson Highway south of Chehalis. Lewis County Fire Districts 5 and 6 responded to the approximately 3:10 p.m. call from a neighbor on Divot Drive and knocked the flames down fairly quickly, according to District 5 Chief Gregg Peterson. He estimated perhaps $100,000 loss between the structure and its contents, with the fire contained to the kitchen but smoke damage throughout. The fire is under investigation Peterson said.

AUTO THEFT

• Police were called about 12:20 p.m. yesterday regarding the theft of a car from the 1100 block of Tennyson Drive in Centralia. Missing is  2001 Honda CRV, with a license plate reading 822 YFF, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A police dog track near Toledo late yesterday was unsuccessful as law enforcement officers searched for a driver who fled following a traffic stop of a vehicle that turned out to be stolen. The Washington State Patrol called the sheriff’s office for help in the area of Plomondon and Toledo-Vader roads about 5 p.m., according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

BREAKING AND ENTERING

• Someone damaged a door and broke into a vacant house for sale on the 100 block of Riffe Hill Road, causing a loss of a about $200, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning. It appeared someone broke in, but did not take anything, sometime since January, according to the sheriff’s office.

MONEY MISSING FROM ACCOUNT

• A 20-year-old Chehalis area resident reported over the weekend that he found $483 worth of fraudulent charges to his bank account, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim did not know how it happened, according to the sheriff’s office.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Chehalis police were called about 8 o’clock yesterday morning to the 100 block of Northeast Washington Avenue where someone had broke into a pickup truck parked on the street overnight. They got through the rear sliding window, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VANDALISM

• An officer was called about 3 a.m. on Saturday shortly after someone broke the windshield of a car parked on Northeast Boistfort Street in Chehalis.

• Officers responded to the 200 block of Main Avenue in Morton about 1 p.m. on Friday after witnesses reported seeing a female stab the tire of a vehicle parked on the street. The suspect, described as blonde, was not found, according to the Morton Police Department. Total loss is estimated at $375.

COLLISIONS

• A 20-year-old Chehalis woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a broken leg after she lost control of her car on Friday afternoon on the 2200 block of Centralia-Alpha Road east of Chehalis and slid head-on into a large fir tree, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responding about 1:10 p.m. found her Toyota Scion totaled and issued a citation for no seatbelt, no insurance and speeds too fast for conditions, according to the sheriff’s office.

• A 19-year-old driver was hospitalized after he drove into a guard rail at the end of Fuller Road in Salkum at about 1:30 a.m. yesterday and struck his head on the steering wheel and windshield. The Salkum resident said he was traveling southbound through thick fog and before he realized where he was, ran straight into the guard rail in front of him at Spencer Road, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. He sustained a minor head injury, but his 2000 Ford Escape ended up with major front end damage, according to the sheriff’s office. He was cited for speeds too fast for conditions and was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.

• A 17-year-old Chehalis girl reportedly escaped any injury when she was distracted by her cell phone on her vehicle’s console lighting up and collided with a utility pole about 8:20 p.m. yesterday on the 100 block of Deep Creek Road west of Chehalis. The pole was sheered off at its base, knocking overhead lines to the ground and her 1995 Hyundai Accent sustained major damage, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. She was cited for second-degree negligent driving, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Four vehicles were prowled in the night at the 2600 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia, according to a report made to police on Friday morning.

VANDALISM

• Centralia police took a report about noon yesterday regarding a vehicle windows shot out with a BB gun at the 100 block of South Gold Street.

DRUGS

• A 46-year-old Centralia man contacted by police for an outstanding warrant at the 1200 block of Alder Street in Centralia on Friday evening will also get a possible charge of possession of methamphetamine. The alleged meth possession was referred to prosecutors for a charging decision and Terry R. Strong was booked into the Lewis County Jail for his warrant, according to the Centralia Police Department.

COLLISIONS

• A 44-year-old driver was hospitalized after she wrecked her vehicle yesterday morning on state Route 508 about 10 miles west of Morton. Troopers called at 9:43 a.m. report the 1993 GMC Jimmy left the highway to the right and traveled up an embankment before rolling and coming to rest on its top. Michelle Maxwell, from Morton, was seat-belted in and her vehicle was totaled, according to the Washington State Patrol. The incident was blamed on inattention and a citation was to be issued for wheels off the roadway, according to the state patrol.

• A 22-year-old Rochester resident was injured overnight when her car ran into a tree in the Capitol Forest, about nine miles northeast of Oakville. Troopers responded about 2 o’clock this morning to the area of the Cedar Creek/D300 Line where the 2003 Mazda Protege was totaled, according to the Washington State Patrol. Chelsea M. Rohr was westbound and making a 180 degree right-hand turn when her car struck the tree, according to the state patrol. Rohr was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, the state patrol reports. Alcohol or drugs were suspected to be involved, according to the investigating trooper.

ROUNDUP OF WANTED PERSONS NETS 10

• More than 30 local law enforcement personnel conducted a warrant sweep around Lewis County yesterday, arresting 10 individuals wanted in connection with domestic violence crimes. A news release from Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown indicated officers attempted to clear 199 warrants beginning at 7:30 a.m. and working until midnight, but discovered many of the subjects have moved away from the area. The team effort conducted during Domestic Violence Awareness Month was meant to send a strong message, according to Lewis County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer. “(A)n important reminder to those who choose to commit these acts, that the victims, the police, and this office will not simply turn a blind eye to their violence.” Law enforcement will coordinate with outside agencies to locate subjects, where known addresses are, according to Brown. Centralia Police Department Chief Bob Berg noted how domestic violence touches so many in the community, with a national statistic that one in four women is a victim of domestic violence during their lifetime. Recently appointed Undersheriff and candidate for sheriff Rob Snaza stated: “No one deserves to be assaulted, threatened, injured, or in fear of another person. If you know someone who is being abused, please speak up.” Other agencies participating included the state Department of Corrections, and police departments in Chehalis, Morton, Toledo, Winlock and Napavine.

•  Centralia police took a report yesterday morning of a mini bike stolen from outside a residence on the 400 block of South Silver Street.

• Someone broke the window out of a vehicle parked at the 200 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia and took its stereo, according to a report made to police about 12:30 p.m. yesterday.

• Centralia police were dispatched about 12:40 p.m. yesterday to he 600 block of West Main Street when a backpack was stolen from a vehicle and the suspect was seen fleeing toward Centralia College. Officers arrived in the area, but were unable to locate the suspect, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Centralia police took a report about 5:25 p.m. yesterday of a backpack stolen from a vehicle in a parking lot on the 1000 block of Kresky Avenue in Centralia.

DRUGS

• A 28-year-old Centralia man was arrested last night for possession of heroin with intent to deliver in connection with a location at the 100 block of South Oak Street. Ronald R. Filer was booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with police about 9:20 p.m., according to the Centralia Police Department. A recommendation for the same charge was referred to the prosecutor’s office involving Filer’s 27-year-old girlfriend, but she was not arrested, according to police.

MONEY MISSING

• Centralia police were called about 6:20 a.m. today to the 100 block of South Silver Street where a resident reported more than $500 stolen from his wallet overnight. Police say a person of interest is a relative staying at the home.

GAS STOLEN

• Centralia police say they took a report about 3:15 p.m. yesterday regarding the theft of $300 worth of gas from the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue when an individual drove off with the gas nozzle still attached.

DRUGS

• A 20-year-old Centralia man was arrested after police tried to contact him around 4 p.m. yesterday at the 1200 block of Alder Street in Centralia. Nathan A. Cheney had an outstanding warrant and he ran away from officers twice, but then was “taken down” by a Chehalis police dog when he inadvertently ran directly at the arriving dog, according to the Centralia Police Department. Cheney was booked into the Lewis County Jail for his warrant and also for possession of methamphetamine, according to police.

• A 29-year-old Centralia woman brought to the Lewis County Jail for unspecified reasons was arrested yesterday morning for Possession of Methamphetamine and Introducing Contraband in to a Correctional Facility, after jail staff allegedly located drugs paraphernalia hidden on her person, according to the Centralia Police Department.
