BEER TOSS LEADS TO ARREST

• A patron at the Tower Tavern in downtown Centralia was arrested last night after she allegedly threw a beer bottle at a bartender after being asked to leave. An officer called about 6:20 p.m. to the 100 block of South Tower Avenue found 37-year-old Angela K. Schlueter of Rochester at the establishment next door, according to the Centralia Police Department. She was arrested for fourth-degree assault and then released, according to police. The bottle struck the employee in the arm, Sgt. Kurt Reichert said.

FERRET GONE AFTER BREAK-IN

• A pet ferret, a shotgun, a rifle and two televisions are among the items missing following a burglary discovered yesterday by residents in the Curtis area who returned from a trip. There was no sign of forced entry, so a deputy suspects someone could have gotten into the home on the 200 block of Lake Creek Road through an unsecured dining room window, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Also stolen is a laptop computer, a Kindle and jewelry, detective Sgt. Dusty Breen said. It happened sometime since last Monday, according to Breen.

GUNS REPORTED MISSING

• An elderly couple called Chehalis police on Friday to report that sometime overnight someone stole three handguns from their home on Southwest Lewis Street. There was no obvious means of entry, according to the Chehalis Police Department. One of the firearms, an officer found, was reported stolen in 1985 by the same victim, detective Sgt. Gary Wilson said. Wilson said they would enter the information into a shared law enforcement databases and if they turn up, perhaps the case can be followed up on.

WIRE THEFT

• A deputy was called about 8:40 .m. yesterday to the 2400 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia after an employee of a telecommunications company discovered 50 feet of copper wire missing from an outbuilding. The theft took place sometime between midnight and 8 a.m., according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

AUTO THEFT

• Someone stole a maroon 1994 Honda Accord from the 2800 block of Russell Road in Centralia sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. yesterday, according to the Centralia Police Department. The four-door car has a license plate reading AAB 8177, according to police.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY

• Centralia police were called about 2:30 p.m. yesterday to a restaurant on the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue where they had accepted three fake $20 bills as payment for food and drinks from a couple. The two showed California IDs for the alcohol, and the case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

UNRULY INDIVIDUALS

• A 26-year-old Chehalis woman was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest about 1:50 a.m. today at the 1000 block of South Tower Avenue in Centralia. Narissa A. Mackinnon  booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 23-year-old Chehalis resident was arrested for a warrant, protection order violation and resisting arrest after contact yesterday about 6:45 p.m. with an officer at the 400 block of East Plum Street in Centralia. Kate A. Beckett was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A pair of Winlock men were arrested for fighting in public about 2 a.m. today at the 100 block of North Railroad Avenue in Centralia. Adam P. Borts, 34 of Winlock, and Matthew S. Amoroso, 31, were issued their citations and then released, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BAD CHECKS LAND TWO IN JAIL

• A Chehalis couple was arrested for allegedly writing more than $2,700 worth of checks to area businesses that were returned for non-sufficient funds on a new account at Washington Federal Bank. Centralia police detectives concluded some of the merchandise was pawned and some for sale on Facebook and when they served a search warrant on Christmas Eve at the couple’s apartment, persuaded Miguel D. Forte, 33, to write a note of apology to the businesses, according to charging documents. Forte’s note indicated he was only doing it for the stability of his family and unborn son, the documents state. Forte and Jennifer K. Ames, 37, were booked in to the Lewis County Jail and subsequently charged with second-degree theft and unlawful issuance of a bank check. Their bails were set on Wednesday at $10,000 unsecured and $15,000  respectively. Their arraignments are scheduled for this coming Wednesday in Lewis County Superior Court.

WRECK

• Firefighters and police were called just after 8 p.m. yesterday to a two-vehicle collision on the 1800 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia. Police report there were injuries; the fire department noted they treated three patients.

VEHICLE PROWLING ARREST

• Centralia police arrested a suspected car prowler yesterday morning when an individual on the 300 block of West Pear Street caught him inside their vehicle. Johnny R. Cyr, 29, of Chehalis, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CENTRALIA OUTLETS VICTIMIZED

• A 24-year-old Tacoma resident was arrested for retail theft shortly after noon yesterday after she allegedly was caught stealing from several outlet stores at the 100 block of West High Street in Centralia. Amber N. Fisher, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

OTHER THEFT

• Police were called about 10:15 a.m. yesterday to the 600 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia regarding the theft of electronic cigarettes.

BURNING CAR

• Firefighters were called about 3:10 p.m. yesterday to Harrison Avenue near Hoss Road where a motorist said he had been traveling northbound, smelled smoke, parked, got out and watched his Ford Taurus burst into flames. Nobody was hurt, according to Riverside Fire Authority. “We put it out, let it cool down, called a tow truck, and his son came and picked him up,” Firefighter Rick LeBoeuf said. The cause is unclear, but the car is a total loss, according to LeBoeuf.

CHRISTMAS EVE MORNING ROBBERY HAD ROOTS IN LEWIS COUNTY

• A trip to retrieve a borrowed car near Lacey – that morphed into a stabbing and a break-in where heroin and money were stolen – began in Lewis County, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. Early on Wednesday morning, deputies were called to the 5200 block of Rumac Street Southeast, where a 33-year-old Thurston County man sustained numerous stab wounds, although none were life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office. He was transported by medics to Providence St. Peter Hospital, according to Lt. Cliff Ziesemer. The investigation revealed that seven individuals arrived to recover a female’s Saturn that had been borrowed and not returned, Ziesemer said. The suspects borrowed a Lewis County woman’s Ford Explorer to make the trip, but she was not involved in any way, nor did she know what they planned, Ziesemer said. While there, some of them broke into the house and into a bedroom where two people were hiding and demanded money and drugs, he said. A K-9 track led to one of the vehicles and three suspects, in an area off Mullen Road Southeast. Taken into custody for first-degree robbery and first-degree assault were a 15-year-old boy as well as Krista Hughes, 35, and Nakayla Hand,18, according to the sheriff’s office. Still outstanding on Christmas Eve were Joshua Kimbrough, 33, Aarin Salter, 18, Eric Ford, 20, and Aaron Simpson, 19, Ziesemer said. All live in the Olympia and Lacey area, he said. COLLISION

• Zachery L. Chance, 19, of Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence after he crashed his car into a curb around 2 a.m. at the 1600 block of Military Road in Centralia. Elijah R. Ross, 18 of Chehalis, was in the same vehicle and was cited for minor in possession of alcohol and then released, according to the Centralia Police Department.

ASSAULT

• A 33-year-old Chehalis resident was jailed last night after he allegedly head-butted a hospital employee for no reason last night. Centralia police say Daniel L. Jones had been voluntarily transported to Providence Centralia Hospital for reasons unspecified and they arrested him for third-degree assault and booked him into the Lewis County Jail.

BREAK-IN

• Police were called about 1:50 p.m. yesterday the 200 block of Tilley Avenue in Centralia regarding a residential burglary in which someone stole items including a television and jewelry. The case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT

• Police were called to the 200 block of North Washington Avenue in Centralia on Wednesday regarding the theft of a Seahawk flag and its pole from a front porch.

• Centralia police took a report of a theft of stereo equipment from a vehicle on the 300 block of Lakeshore Drive in Centralia on Wednesday evening.

• Someone broke into a car on the 1000 block of West Cherry Street in Centralia and stole a debit card, according to a report made to police on Wednesday.

COLLISION

• An attempt to stop a speeding vehicle ended with a wreck at the 3000 block of Centralia-Alpha Road in Onalaska, when the vehicle struck a culvert and a tree last night. It was just before 10 p.m. near Salzer Valley Road when a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle traveling nearly 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Emmanuel Martinez, 22, of Chehalis, and passenger reportedly fled the vehicle and a police dog found Martinez at a nearby Christmas tree farm, according to the sheriff’s office. He was booked for attempting to elude and a warrant from the state Department of Corrections, detective Sgt. Dusty Breen said. The case will be referred to prosecutors for possible charges also related to driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, Breen said.

ASSAULTS

• A 21-year-old Onalaska man was arrested after he allegedly beat his roommate with a metal fence post last night. The 51-year-old victim was hospitalized with bruises to his elbow, back, stomach and head, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies called about 6:20 p.m. to the 300 block of Tauscher Road were told by witnesses the attack seemed to come out of nowhere and that Travis L. O’Shane was acting crazy like he was on drugs, detective Sgt. Dusty Breen said. The metal post was described as two inches in diameter and about five feet long. O’Shane was subsequently found nearby at his parents house and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, harassment and resisting arrest, Breen said.

• A 42-year-old Centralia man was arrested overnight after he allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill his girlfriend. Lonnie A. Grasser was booked into the Lewis County Jail for harassment after the approximately 1:45 a.m. incident associated with the 1400 block of Johnson Road in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR PROWLS

• Police were called about 8:25 a.m. yesterday regarding a vehicle prowl at the 3000 block of Borst Avenue in Centralia. Stolen from the unlocked vehicle was a GPS device and a stereo, according to the Centralia Police Department. An officer called just before 11 a.m. to the same area took a report of another prowl in which a stereo was stolen. In that case, someone left a fishing pole behind, according to police. A third prowl in which a stereo was taken from the same area was reported about 3:45 p.m.

LAUNDRY ROOM FIRE

• A Centralia-area resident awoke to the smell of smoke and used a pan with water to extinguish a fire in their laundry room. Firefighters called about 3:10 a.m. to the 2500 block of Lincoln Creek Road checked the area for fire extension but none was found, according to Riverside Fire Authority. It appeared that linens, paper and other items in front of a wall heater ignited, Firefighter Rick LeBoeuf said. “It smoked up the whole laundry room so that room will have to be gutted,” LeBoeuf said. Nobody was injured.

VEHICLE FIRE

• Firefighters were called about 1:10 p.m. yesterday to the 800 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia where a driver had pulled into the turn lane after smelling smoke and exited her vehicle. The small pickup truck was fully involved in flames upon firefighters’ arrival and they extinguished it, according to Riverside Fire Authority. Nobody was hurt but the truck is ruined, Firefighter Rick LeBoeuf said.

PEDESTRIANS STRUCK

• Police responded last night to two incidents of vehicle versus pedestrian with minor injuries. The first occurred about 8 p.m. at the 1600 block of Military Road and the other about 15 minutes later at Tower Avenue and Magnolia Street. Nobody needed transport by ambulance to the hospital, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

COLLISIONS

• Police and aid were called just after 7 p.m. yesterday to a taxi cab wreck on North Gold Street near Ham Hill Road in Centralia. The driver, who was alone in the car said he swerved to miss another vehicle, skidded and came to rest against a tree, according to Riverside Fire Authority. He declined to go to the hospital.

• A 62-year-old Chehalis woman was booked for driving under the influence after her 1995 Oldsmobile four-door reportedly crossed the center line and struck a Toyota pickup driven by a 21-year-old Centralia resident. It happened just before 7 p.m. yesterday on the 300 block of Chilvers Road west of Chehalis and nobody was injured,  according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Damage to the vehicles was minor, detective Sgt. Dusty Breen said. Deborah A. Deveny’s breath tests showed her blood alcohol level was at least twice the legal limit, Breen said.

• A 75-year-old Chehalis man was injured in a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 12 about 14 miles west of Naches yesterday. Troopers called about 9 a.m. found David W. Dempewolf’s pickup had left the roadway and struck a rock. It was totaled, according to the Washington State Patrol. Dempewolf was transported to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, according to the state patrol. The accident was blamed on inattention.

VEHICLE PROWL INTERRUPTED BY OCCUPANT INSIDE VEHICLE

• A car prowler in the parking lot at the Centralia Outlets yesterday was confronted by a teenage girl who happened to be sitting in the back of the vehicle with her dogs when someone opened the car door and tried to steal her mother’s purse. It happened just before 5 p.m. at the 1300 block of Lum Road, when a female opened the car door and grabbed a handbag sitting on the seat, according to the Centralia Police Department. “The teen got out and tried to get the purse back,” Sgt. Kurt Reichert said. The suspect threatened to punch the girl and fled, according to police. The prowler was described only as a white female with dirty blond hair.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police responded about 2:25 p.m. yesterday to the 800 block of South Tower Avenue to a report of an interrupted vehicle prowl. Nobody was arrested but the victim provided a description of the subject, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Someone stole CDs and other property from a locked vehicle overnight at the 300 block of West Summa Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday afternoon.

• Centralia police were called about 9:30 a.m. yesterday about an overnight vehicle prowl on the 600 block of Jefferson Street. Identification and various documents were stolen from the locked vehicle, according to the Centralia Police Department.

TIRE IRON ASSAULT

• The Olympian reports an employee of the Yelm fire department who lives in Bucoda was arrested and booked for allegedly hitting a male in the head with a tire iron on Friday afternoon. News reporter Andy Hobbs writes Lance Casto told detectives he had been drinking at Joe’s Place in Bucoda to celebrate his birthday and had left to go pick up his kids from school when he drove through an alley, saw the two men tearing apart the trailer and confronted them, in part because he thought they stole his daughter’s bicycle a couple of years ago.

LOST AND FOUND

• Chehalis police were called this morning to a convenience store on the 600 block of West Main Street where a baggie containing a white powdery substance was found. The suspected drugs were taken and will be destroyed, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

INDECENT EXPOSURE

• Chehalis police were called about 2:40 p.m. yesterday to a report that a female in a parking lot across from the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue was showing her “ta ta’s” for money. An officer who responded to the area didn’t locate any such activity according to the Chehalis Police Department. “It doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, but the officer went out there and no arrest was made,” detective Sgt. Gary Wilson said.

CHRISTMAS TREE SAFETY TIPS

• By now, if you have a tree decorated indoors, hopefully you’ve got it placed in water and away from any heat sources to keep it from drying out and becoming a fire hazard. The State Fire Marshal’s Office reminds the public it takes only seconds for a tree to ignite and the entire room to become engulfed in flames. Never connect more than three strands of lights sets, and be sure to inspect for frayed wires, bare spots, gaps in the insulation, broken or cracked sockets, and excessive kinking or wear before putting them up, the fire marshal advises. Beware of too many lights on your Christmas tree: Flickering lights, tripped circuit breakers and blown fuses are warning signs that your home’s electrical outlets may be overloaded.

BREAK-IN CHEHALIS

•  The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning a Chehalis area home was broken into and two firearms along with other valuables stolen sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Friday. The residents on the 400 block of Coal Creek Road told a deputy they returned home to find their back door kicked in, according to the sheriff’s office. Among the missing items were a Ruger 9 mm and a 45 caliber handgun with ammunition as well as a computer, games and black lock box containing vehicle title, savings bond, bank documents and wedding pictures, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Some of the contents of the box were discovered on Sunday in a trash can at Fort Borst Park in Centralia, according to Brown. The loss is more than $2,000, she said.

GRINCH IN WINLOCK

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports this morning that someone stole a tote packed with Christmas decor from an unlocked shed on the 100 block of Coma Road outside of Winlock sometime between Thursday and Friday. The loss is estimated at $50, according to the sheriff’s office.

FRAUD

• Morton police took a report from a resident on the 800 block of Overlook Drive regarding purchases of $358 made on her stolen debit card last week. The victim said it occurred sometime since Nov. 26, according to the Morton Police Department. The case remains under investigation, according to police.

BURNING VEHICLE RUNS INTO HOUSE

• Firefighters were called to a car fire early this morning in which the burning vehicle rolled up against the home. Responders to the approximately 6:40 a.m. incident at the 3800 block of Jackson Highway found a male using a garden hose and finished extinguishing the fire, according to Lewis County District 5. Nobody was injured and the damage to the residence was minimal, according to Chief Gregg Peterson.

INTO THE DRINK

• A driver who didn’t realize a water-filled ditch was not a solid shoulder at Little Hanaford and Halliday roads was uninjured when his sport utility vehicle ended up partially submerged yesterday evening, according to the Centralia Police Department.
