LOOT INCLUDES COW ART

• Deputies took a report from a 55-year-old Centralia man yesterday afternoon that someone burglarized his residence stealing a 60-inch flat screen television, a floor jack and three paintings of cows – as well as his pickup truck. Neighbors think they heard the gray 2005 Ford F350 start up at about 8 a.m., according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The loss from the 100 block of Northridge Road outside Centralia is estimated at $15,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

MAIL THEFT FRAUD

• Chehalis police reported yesterday that an individual contacted them from the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street on Friday following the discovery a check was stolen from their mailbox and cashed in the amount of $1,500. The situation is being looked into further, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

OTHER FRAUD

• Centralia police were called about 9:25 a.m. yesterday by a victim regarding fraudulent use of their social security number, in a case associated with the 2200 block of Cooks Hill Road.

VEHICLE PROWL

• A tool box and tools were stolen from  a truck at the 900 block of Spring Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police just after noon time yesterday.

• Chehalis police were called to the parking lot at Wal-Mart about 6:25 p.m. on Monday by an individual who said they returned to their vehicle after about 20 minutes of shopping to discover a bicycle had been taken from the back of their truck.

PORCH PROWLING

• Someone stole green and blue bulbs from a light fixture on a porch at the 800 block of Southwest William Avenue in Chehalis, according to a report made to police on Sunday.

KIDS ALONE IN CAR

• A 30-year-old Chehalis resident was issued a citation for reportedly leaving an 11-year-old alone with two children in car seats inside a vehicle in the parking lot at Safeway on South Market Boulevard late Friday afternoon. The city’s ordinance says under 12 is too young for a child to be left unattended in a vehicle, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

COLLISIONS

• Centralia police responded yesterday about 5:45 p.m. to a vehicle that collided with a tree at Third and K streets.

• A 53-year-old man was arrested after allegedly running into a power pole about 9:30 p.m. yesterday at the 400 block of Leonard Road in Onalaska, knocking it down and leaving the area. Robert W. Clark, of Onalaska, was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence as well as hit and run, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. His 2004 Chevrolet 2500 truck was described as totaled. Clark was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

BURGLARY CENTRALIA

• Centralia police were called about 8:25 p.m. yesterday to the 1500 block of Pike Street where someone had broken into a garage and stole electrical wire.

CHASING LIVESTOCK

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a deputy issued an infraction to an Onalaska woman for prohibited activities by animals after being called on Friday afternoon to the 100 block of McCann Road about three pit bull mix dogs chasing horses. A 15-year-old Appaloosa sustained a wound on her right rear leg from either a bite or from getting clawed, according to the sheriff’s office. Danielle M. Toft, 22, acknowledged she’d been warned before about her dogs running loose, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

TRAFFIC STOP: PASSENGER TRYING TO HIDE GUN

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Winlock on Friday night resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old Portland resident for allegedly carrying a loaded handgun in a vehicle without a license, while being a convicted felon. A deputy pulled over the northbound vehicle about 11 p.m. and noticed the passenger was keeping his back to the door while retrieving his wallet, and then spotted part of a black semi-automatic pistol in the door handle, according to the sheriff’s office. Zachary L. Hubbert was booked into the Lewis County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. The driver, Ahna G. Cobb, 25, of Portland, was arrested and booked for driving under the influence, Brown said.

DRUGS

• A 19-year-old picked up yesterday evening for a warrant in Centralia was then also arrested for possession of marijuana by a minor. Zachory J. Schultz was contacted by an officer at the 1500 block of North Schueber Road and then booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

COLLISION FOLLOWUP

•  The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning the 28-year-old Winlock man who rolled his car at the 200 block of Hamilton Road north of Napavine on Friday night failed to negotiate a southbound curve. His Subaru Impreza was totaled and he was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious head injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

TWO DEAD IN HIGHWAY 12 WRECK

• Two people are dead and one is critically injured following a multi-vehicle wreck this morning about seven miles east of Randle. Troopers and aid were called around 10 a.m. to the scene on U.S. Highway 12 near Cascade Peaks Campground, according to the Washington State Patrol. State Patrol Sgt. Mike Cournyer said it involved a semi truck, a passenger car and a pickup truck pulling a camp trailer. The highway has been closed in both directions all day, with a detour in place, but tow trucks are at the scene now and it could be cleared in the next 30 minutes, Cournyer said. Of the six people involved, two were not hurt and one was taken to Morton General Hospital with a minor injury, according to Cournyer. The critically injured person was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, he said. A dog died as well, he said. More information should be available later.

OTHER COLLISIONS

• Morton officers were called at 2 p.m. on Saturday to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Second Street and Main Avenue. A motorcycle failed to yield to oncoming traffic, according to the Morton Police Department. No one was seriously injured, according to police.

• At 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a motorcycle versus pickup wreck in the 400 block of Second Street in Morton. The driver of a motorcycle was taken to Morton General Hospital for medical treatment, according to the Morton Police Department. The accident is under investigation.

THEFT

• Police were called to the wastewater treatment plant on the 3000 block of U.S. Highway 12 last Tuesday regarding “some things taken from the site.” Police are still waiting for the estimated dollar loss, according to the Morton Police Department.

CHILD EXPLOITATION

• KOMOnews.com reports a 66-year-old Centralia man was among nine people arrested during an undercover operation in Kitsap County in which subjects responding to online ads traveled to agreed locations for meetings, with an interest in sexual exploitation of children. The individuals, none of which had any prior felony convictions, were arrested and charged with either sexual abuse of a child, possession of child pornography or sexual exploitation of a child, according to KOMOnews.com. Authorities say the operation generated hundreds of responses. The sting was a collaborative effort involving  the WSP’s Criminal Investigative Division, Investigative Assistance Division, Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Bureau of Investigations and Kitsap County Prosecutors.

ASSAULT NEAR BAR

• Centralia police responding about 2:15 a.m. today to a report of an assault near a tavern on the 100 block of South Tower Avenue found a man lying in the bushes; witnesses said he had been punched and was highly intoxicated. Aid was called and the victim was transported to the emergency room at Providence Centralia Hospital,  according to the Centralia Police Department. The incident is being investigated, according to police.

COMPUTER USE INVESTIGATION

• Centralia police say they were dispatched yesterday afternoon to a report of possible child pornography being viewed on a public computer at the 100 block of South Silver Street. Detectives will be following up,  according to the Centralia Police Department.

COLLISION

• Two people were injured when a car and pickup truck hauling a horse trailer collided yesterday on U.S. Highway 12 just west of Packwood. Troopers called about 9:20 a.m. found a Buick Lasabre driving by a Glenoma woman was traveling westbound and making a lefthand turn when it was hit by the eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a Curtis man. Randall L. Meyn, 56, was not hurt, but his 19-year-old passenger was, according to the Washington State Patrol. Transported to Morton General Hospital were Nicole J. Marsyla, 19, from Winlock, and Amber T. Cuff, 39, of Glenoma, according to the state patrol. The wreck was blamed on failure to yield. Cuff’s 1002 Buick was described as totaled.

THEFT

• Somebody stole two walkers from in front of a home on the 2500 block of Fords Prairie Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday afternoon.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police arrested a 26-year-old who allegedly tried to flee on a bicycle after a vehicle prowl around 3 o’clock this morning at the 200 block of East Summa Street. Robert L. Huey was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called yesterday to the 700 block of J Street in Centralia about a vehicle prowl in which the stereo was taken.

COLLISION

• Firefighters called at 9:15 p.m. yesterday to a rollover accident north of Napavine found a vehicle on its top with one male trapped inside. Both lanes at the scene at the 200 block of Hamilton Road were shut down for the rescue and the investigation, according to Newaukum Valley Fire and Rescue. Firefighter Maria Kennedy indicates the patient was transported priority to Providence Centralia Hospital where he was stabilized and then immediately airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was in critical condition, according to Kennedy. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol are investigating, she said.

ARGUMENT WITH GUNSHOTS LEADS TO JAIL

• A 62-year-old Randle man who allegedly fired a pistol during a dispute over money with his former roommate and then threatened a neighbor with the gun was arrested yesterday and booked into the Lewis County Jail. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports the incident occurred at Richard E. Gatlin’s residence on the 9500 block of U.S. Highway 12 at around 4:35 p.m. Deputies, assisted by the Washington State Patrol, arrived to learn the 28-year-old victim had fled, fearing he was going to be killed, according to the sheriff’s office. Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said when a 53-year-old neighbor woman began yelling at Gatlin, he allegedly pointed the gun in her face and fired a round near her feet. Gatlin was taken into custody for two counts of first-degree assault, Brown said. No injuries were reported.

AUTO THEFT

• Centralia police took a report yesterday afternoon from a vehicle rental agency that a truck had been stolen off of their lot  on the 100 block of South Gold Street and was wrecked but recovered just outside of the city limits. The investigation is continuing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

SUSPECTED PROWLER

• Chehalis police were called yesterday morning to the 1400 block of Southwest Mills Avenue for what appeared to be an attempted burglary of a shop. The owner found a rod by the door and tool marks that suggested someone tried to get inside, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Chehalis police responded to a 7 a.m. call today to the 500 block of Southwest Parkland Drive where someone had stolen two bicycles as well as the rack that was holding them on the rear of a van. The loss is estimated at $1,900, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

DRUGS

• Centralia police responding a to a disturbance just after 7 p.m. yesterday at the 100 block of West Plum Street arrested a 44-year-old man for possession of a controlled substance and and outstanding warrant. James M. Mihalcin was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police report they arrested a 34-year-old individual at the same time for warrants.

FREEWAY WRECK INJURES FOUR YOUNG PEOPLE

• An unlicensed and drunken teenage driver along with his three passengers were injured in a rollover wreck overnight on Interstate 5 near Winlock, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers called about 2:30 a.m. to the southbound lanes near milepost 63 found the Ford Explorer had come to rest right side up in the median, according to the state patrol. The 17-year-old boy, whose name was not released, and an 18-year-old male were transported to Providence Centralia Hospital. A 15-year-old girl was released to her mother at the scene and a 20-year-old male declined aid, according to the state patrol.  The vehicle was totaled and impounded and the driver is facing charges including driving under the influence and child endangerment. They are all from Burien.

• A picnic table was stolen during the night from the 600 block of South Diamond Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police yesterday morning.

• Centralia police took a report from the 1400 block of Johnson Road yesterday regarding stolen medication. The case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.
