CHILD ASSAULT

• Victoria A. Cheney, 44, of Centralia, was arrested yesterday for two counts of second-degree child assault in connection with the discovery at the end of July that two little boys she’d been babysitting sustained multiple injuries including bruises and swelling on much of their bodies, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Cheney was booked in the Lewis County Jail for other offenses as well including witness tampering. Among them is a charge because she allegedly claimed her daughter was to blame for the assault of the toddlers, ages 2 and 3. Cheney’s daughter, 22-year-old Chandra M. Munsey, was arrested on July 23 and charged in Lewis County Superior Court with two counts of second-degree child assault, but prosecutors dropped the charges against her. Cheney is being held on $100,000 bail.

PARENT ASSAULT

• Centralia police were called about 5:50 p.m. yesterday to the 600 block of South Washington Avenue where a 14-year-old girl allegedly tried to stab a parent with a pen. The girl was arrested for second-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the Centralia Police Department.

BREAK-IN MOSSYROCK

• Deputies responding about 10 o’clock last night to an alarm activation at the 100 block of Jerrells Road outside of Mossyrock found  37-year-old local man in a a travel trailer. When they tried to take him into custody, he was reportedly uncooperative and after being stunned with a Taser, ran off down the driveway, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Eventually James W. McMillion II, from Mossyrock, was located hiding under a bed at his home, according to the sheriff’s office. Shirts, a flashlight, a knife and lighters had been stolen from the trailer, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. McMillion was booked into the Lewis County jail for burglary and resisting arrest, Brown said.

BREAK-IN CHEHALIS

• Chehalis police were called about a burglary at a vacant house on the 200 block of Southwest Riverside Drive yesterday afternoon. A door was kicked in but there was nothing of real value inside to be taken, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BREAK-IN CENTRALIA

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning that sometime during the past two or so days someone broke into an outbuilding on the 2300 block of Lincoln Creek Road outside Centralia and stole two Stihl chainsaws, with an estimated loss of $1,000.

MISSING MEDS

• Chehalis police were called yesterday afternoon regarding a handful of missing prescription pills from a residence on the 1700 block of South Market Boulevard.

FRAUD

• Centralia police took a report yesterday  from the the 3000 block of Borst Avenue regarding the unauthorized use of a credit card.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police were called about 9:10 a.m. yesterday to the 1200 block of Alder Street about a vehicle prowl that occurred during the night. The vehicle had been locked, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called yesterday about an overnight vehicle prowl at the 1300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue. It had accidentally been left unlocked, but nothing seemed to be missing, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• Four thousand dollars cash plus a bank card were among the items stolen from a vehicle parked near the owner residence on the 600 block of Southeast Dobson Court in Chehalis, according to a report made to police at 7:30 yesterday morning.

DRUGS

• An incoming client at a drug and alcohol treatment program who allegedly brought methamphetamine with him was arrested last night in Chehalis. An officer was called to the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue and subsequently booked  Brad L. Reynolds, 44, of Bremerton, into the Lewis County Jail for possession of meth, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A 52-year-old man wanted for allegedly kicking in the door to a business on the 1200 block of Long Road in Centralia on Monday evening was arrested yesterday afternoon and found to have suspected methamphetamine on him. William F. Eberle, of Centralia, was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary, malicious mischief, obstruction and possession of meth, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

LOST AND FOUND

• A pair of horses turned up yesterday morning in the yard 50-year-old man, west of Chehalis at the 100 block of Urquhart Road. The sheriff’s office believes they may have come from Brown Road East, given a trail of horse manure. One is gray, one is black, they were shoeless and hadn’t had hoof trims for awhile, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The animals were impounded and being held at the Chehalis Livestock Market in hopes the owner can be identified, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

UPSET BIKER SOUGHT BY POLICE

• A man apparently angry that a motorist “almost killed him” on his bike allegedly kicked in a door to a business on Long Road in Centralia late yesterday afternoon, but took off before police arrived. Centralia police who happened to be in the area of the 1200 block of Long Road at the time of the approximately 5:20 p.m. 911 call got into a short foot pursuit with a suspect, but lost sight of him, according to the Centralia Police Department. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said it learned the individual who told employees his name was looking for keys to the offending large black truck, inside Lexar Homes. Officers and a Chehalis police dog searched the area without success, and contact at the man’s home at the nearby Peppertree RV Park was attempted, according to the sheriff’s office. The case is being referred to prosecutors for a charge of burglary, as law enforcement keeps an eye out for 52-year-old William F. Eberle, according to authorities.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN BUCODA BAT ATTACK

• The Olympian reports a baseball bat wielding Thurston County man who assaulted another man in Bucoda last month was sentenced to three years in prison yesterday in Thurston County Superior Court. News reporter Andy Hobbs writes that Travis J. Ritzenthaler, 28, was arrested three days after the Aug. 1 incident that left the victim with numerous injuries including a broken nose, skull and cheek fractures.

UNDERAGE DRINKING

• Chehalis police called just after 8 p.m. yesterday regarding a group of teens on foot cussing and fighting at Cascade Avenue near Second Street ended up arresting three 15-year-old boys for minor in possession and/or consumption of alcohol. They were then released pending court, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Morton police responded twice on Sunday to reports of tires slashed on vehicles. An officer responding to he first incident just before 2 a.m. at the 200 block of Main Street spotted three juveniles who ran down a street when they saw the officer, according to the Morton Police Department. The second instance was reported at 5 p.m. the same day at the the 200 block of Division Street, according to police.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

• A 25-year-old Vader resident was arrested for third-degree rape after deputies were called early yesterday morning about an incident that allegedly occurred on Stoddard Road in Doty where he was house sitting. A 21-year-old woman said he came into a room where she was sleeping and forced sexual contact upon her even though she told him no, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The woman told a deputy they had met a couple months prior on a dating website but no intimate relationship had developed and they were just friends hanging out, according to the sheriff’s office. She said she stayed over because she’d had a couple of drinks and smoked marijuana, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. A search warrant was served at the residence where a loaded rifle was observed hanging on the wall of the bedroom where the alleged incident took place, so the suspect was also arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm, as he has a previous felony conviction, Brown said. Jeremy R. Elliott was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

• A 54-year-old Vader man was arrested for allegedly hitting his roommate on the hand with a two by four and dragging her by the neck for approximately 30 yards on Friday night. The 29-year-old escaped to a neighbor’s, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It was Douglas E. Heller, the suspect, who phoned 911 at about 7 p.m. to the 200 block of Westside Highway, saying his roommate had damaged his car and his phone, according to the sheriff’s office. Heller was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital for an unspecified medical issue and not immediately booked into jail, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. Brown said he was arrested for third-degree assault and released from custody because he was admitted to the hospital.

KIDS ACCUSED OF STEALING PHONE

• Centralia police responded to an approximately 1:30 a.m. call today from an individual who said he was standing on a sidewalk about to use his cell phone when three teenagers ran up to him, grabbed the phone and took off running. It happened in the area of the 600 block of West Main Street, according to the Centralia Police Department. The suspects were described as a female dressed all in black, one male with a red hood and the other male wearing a black T-shirt, according to police.

BREAK-IN CHEHALIS

• Police were called at 7:30 p.m. yesterday to a burglary at the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street in Chehalis. The resident said she was away from her apartment for 20 to 30 minutes – with the front door locked – and returned to find items moved and some prescription medication missing, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

BREAK-IN WINLOCK

• A Winlock resident called the sheriff’s office to report that someone came into her home on the 400 block of North Military Road and stole her daughter’s purse and approximately $40. It happened sometime between Thursday and yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

VEHICLE THEFT

• Chehalis police were called at 9 o’clock yesterday morning to the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street where a 2002 Pontiac van which had been locked and parked at a residence disappeared. It is white, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

OTHER THEFT

• Centralia police say an officer was called about the shoplifting of a car stereo at about 5:40 p.m. yesterday from the 200 block of South Pearl Street. A suspect was identified and a summons will be issued to the 22-year-old suspect, according to the Centralia Police Department.

CAR TRASHED

• Someone vandalized a car at White Pass High School in Randle on Saturday, slashing its tires and destroying its windows, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The damage to the 2003 Toyota Matrix is listed at $800, according to the sheriff’s office. There are persons of interest in the case, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said.

NOISY NEIGHBOR MUSIC

• A 44-year-old man who allegedly was belligerent and uncooperative when police came to talk with him about his loud music in Centralia yesterday found himself jailed. Officers responded about 4:15 p.m. to the 100 block of North Buckner Street for a compliant and when it became obvious the resident wasn’t going to turn the music down, they issued an infraction for violating the noise ordinance and then left, according to the Centralia Police Department. Then they got several more calls from neighbors who said as soon as officers departed, the music was back on even louder, according to police. Officers returned and arrested Enrique S. Lopez, 44, and booked him into the Lewis County Jail for violating the noise ordinance.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

• After getting a 911 call last night from a female who said her boyfriend assaulted her but couldn’t say exactly where she was, officers were able to track her down by landmarks she named, according to the Centralia Police Department. Aid was summoned after the approximately 10 p.m. call and the victim was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to police. Officers subsequently located the suspect, Douglas M. Martin, in the woods a few hundred yards south of the Mellen Street park and ride, according to police. Martin was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault.

• A parental dispute in Centralia late yesterday afternoon ended with police requesting a summons for a 30-year-old man for a charge of fourth-degree assault. The father allegedly grabbed the mother of their child by the arm to move her out of the way so he could take their child, according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers initially were called about 5:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue for a hysterical woman claiming her child was taken by the dad, according to police. However, officers learned the dad had custody and the mom was refusing to give the child up when a visitation was over, according to police. The father when contacted denied any assault, police reported this morning.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report yesterday afternoon of the theft of jewelry from an antique store on the 200 block of North Tower Avenue.

COLLISION

• A motorcyclist was injured when he attempted to pass a car at the same time as it turned left off U.S. Highway 12 just west of Salkum yesterday morning. Troopers called about 10:50 a.m. found the motorcycle collided with a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 48-year-old Onalaska woman, according to the Washington State Patrol. She was unhurt, according to the state patrol, but David L. Sexton, 63, from Mossyrock, was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. The wreck is blamed on improper passing, according to the state patrol.

ARSON

• A car found burning on a logging road west of Centralia last night appears to have been intentionally set on fire, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters and deputies responded to the approximately 8 p.m. incident described as off the 1500 block of Lincoln Creek Road. Sheriff’s Cmdr. Dusty Breen said the stolen 1996 Honda Accord was destroyed. It belonged to a 42-year-old Centralia man, Breen said. The fire didn’t begin in the engine compartment, but started in the interior of the car, according to Breen.

VEHICLE THEFT

• Chehalis police were called about 3 :15 p.m. yesterday about a pickup truck stolen from the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Sometime between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. yesterday, someone got into a vehicle parked outside a residence on the 200 block of Brockway Road west of Chehalis and made off with a 45 caliber handgun and its leather holster, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

OTHER THEFT

• Someone stole a power saw from the 900 block of G Street in Centralia, according to  report made to police just after 6 a.m. today.

POLICE: METH INVOLVED IN POLICE PURSUIT OF ATV

• Thurston County deputies assisted when an ATV fled police  last night at the 1100 block of West Reynolds Avenue in Centralia and headed out Old Highway 99 and then onto Interstate 5. The attempted traffic stop began about 6:44 p.m. for unspecified reasons. Thirty-one-year-old Taleana J. Wilson was apprehended on southbound I-5, according to the Centralia Police Department. Police report she was in possession of suspected methamphetamine. The Centralia woman was booked into the Lewis County Jail for felony eluding and possession of meth, according to police.

CONSTRUCTION COMPANY VICTIMIZED BY THIEF

• Someone pried open an enclosed trailer belonging to Conway Construction in Randle and basically emptied it of approximately $10,000 worth of tools and equipment, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The theft from the 10,000 block of U.S. Highway 12 occurred over Labor Day weekend and among the missing property is a gravel compactor, according to the sheriff’s office.

“CUSTOMERS” DIG INTO CASH REGISTER

• Chehalis police were called yesterday by a business in the Twin City Town Center when it discovered by reviewing surveillance video that two strangers had walked in the afternoon before, approached a cash register, opened it up and left with money. It happened at Grocery Outlet on Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, while the store was open, according to the Chehalis Police Department. That cash was missing was learned when the till didn’t balance, and then they took a look at the video, according to police. The only description of the thieves are two black males, both wearing hats and white T-shirts, one in dark shorts and the other in jeans, police said. The loss is about $160, according to police.

VIRTUAL TRAFFICKING OF STOLEN PROPERTY

• A 23-year-old Centralia resident who allegedly used her phone to take a picture of her mother’s credit card and shared the image with its information on Facebook was arrested for second-degree theft and trafficking in stolen property, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning. A deputy was called to the mother’s Centralia home on Tuesday to take a report and subsequently contacted Kayla M. Burleson in the Lewis County Jail – where she was booked for unspecified reasons the day before, according to the sheriff’s office. Burleson reportedly didn’t recall showing the photo to anyone.

AUTO THEFT

• Chehalis police were called about 10:30 a.m. yesterday to a restaurant parking lot on the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue where an individual came out to discover his car was stolen. He said the keys were in the unlocked red 1994 Pontiac Bonneville, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The car later was recovered in Pacific County, according to police.

• A black 1990 Mazda B2200 was reported stolen just before 1 o’clock this morning from the 1000 block of South Gold Street in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police took a report of graffiti left on a building at the 1200 block of West First Street in Centralia yesterday morning.
