THEFTS

• Centralia police responded just before 10 a.m. yesterday to the laundry business on the 500 block of North Pearl Street where an undisclosed amount of money was stolen during the night. A door was found unsecured, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A woman called Centralia police yesterday from E Street after she got a credit card bill from Victoria’s Secret of more than $400, according to the Centralia Police Department. She hadn’t ordered anything from them, according to police.

• A generator, several hand-held radios and a GPS device were among the items believed to be missing from an airport hangar in Morton, according to a report made to the Morton Police Department on Saturday.

• Someone removed a window from the Morton school bus garage, siphoned diesel from a bus and stole a Gateway laptop computer as well as a red “jump” box used for jump starting the busses, according to a report made to police on Friday morning.

• Police were called to Morton Junior-Senior High School about 9:30 a.m. on Saturday when a siphon hose and a five-gallon can were discovered near two school district vehicles parked near the boiler rooms. No fuel seemed to be missing, according to police.

• Morton police were called about 6:45 p.m. on Friday to a possible burglary to a residence on the 400 block of Oniell Road. Police reported yesterday the case is still under investigation.

• Morton police reported yesterday they arrested 40-year-old Patricia M. Horrace a week ago Monday in connection with a burglary at a home on the 100 block of Westlake Avenue. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail where she is being held on $5000 bail. She has pleaded no guilty.

DRUGS

• Morton police reported yesterday they contacted three girls at Morton Junior-Senior High School on Wednesday morning in connection with possession of a controlled substance. The cases are being referred to Lewis County juvenile prosecutors for charging decisions, according to the Morton Police Department.

• Centralia police arrested a 30-year-old man and 23-year-old woman yesterday each for possession of heroin and methamphetamine. The arrests came after police got back the results of tests of white residue from a pipe and a tarry substance from a tea candle tin, items that were handed over to police who went to visit the couple at their Centralia home last August, according to charging documents. Officers went to the residence looking for other subjects who were suspected of selling stolen property, asked the two if they used drugs and asked if they had any drug-related materials in their home, according to the documents. Carlina F. Anderson and Jeffrey C. Sitton, were booked into the Lewis County Jail and appeared before a judge this afternoon. Neither has any past felonies and were released on signature bonds pending trial.

• A 45-year-old Chehalis woman was arrested by Centralia police yesterday for drugs based on a visit to her residence three weeks ago when police were looking for two of her relatives who had arrest warrants. Those subjects weren’t found, but officers allegedly spotted several hypodermic needle and a digital scale inside, according to charging documents. Rhonda I. Russell “was told if she was honest and cooperative, she would not be arrested and the defendant agreed,” Lewis County prosecutors wrote in charging documents. “In addition the defendant agreed to help law enforcement apprehend additional suspects in the near future. That, apparently, did not occur and the defendant was arrested.” Russell was charged today with possession of methamphetamine. Lewis County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer said Russell has no criminal history and asked she be allowed to be released pending trial on a $25,000 signature bond. Judge Richard Brosey asked why she wasn’t arrested earlier this month if police had probable cause then, or conversely, why she was jailed yesterday instead of being summonsed to court with a letter. Meyer indicated that police decided how to handle it.

• Lewis County Crime Stoppers is looking for tips on the locations of eight guns and 2,000 rounds of ammunition that were stolen in a residential burglary three weeks ago on the 700 block of Chandler Road west of Chehalis. Also taken sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. on March 11 from the home were a 36-inch Peerless flat screen television, a green Dell laptop computer, a black and gray Netbook laptop and a FireSAFE safe, according to Crime Stoppers. The missing ammo were 10 boxes of 9 mm and a 1,000-round box of .22LR, according to Crime Stoppers. The firearms are as follows: Marlin .22 rifle with scope, Ruger .22 rifle with scope, Remington 9mm rifle with scope, 25-20 lever action rifle, Remington 30.06 pump action rifle, Colt .22 antique revolver and a Ruger .22 pistol, serial #21359540. POLICE: CHEHALIS MAN SPRAYS ANOTHER WITH BEAR MACE

• A 24-year-old Centralia man called 911 on Saturday afternoon after he was attacked with bear mace in north Centralia, according to police. Police called about 3:20 p.m. were told he was invited to a residence on the 1300 block of Windsor Avenue and when he arrived, was met outside by someone and as they walked toward the rear of the home someone else jumped out of the bushes and sprayed him. The substance is like pepper spray used on bears, and is much more potent than even the spray police officers use in their work, according to Sgt. Kurt Reichert. Damen Kroll, 23, of Chehalis, was subsequently arrested for fourth-degree assault, and booked in to the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

PACKWOOD FIGHT SENDS ONE TO HARBORVIEW

• Deputies were called about 2 a.m. on Saturday to Packwood after a 26-year-old man from Auburn was stabbed, allegedly during a fight with a 25-year-old man from University Place. It happened at a gathering at a home on the 100 block of Terrace Way, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was in stable condition last night, according to detective Sgt. Dusty Breen. It’s unclear if it was done in self defense and is under investigation, according to Breen. Breen declined to say what the alleged implement involved was. The 25-year-old suffered some minor injuries, he said.

CENTRALIA SWORD THREAT LANDS MAN IN JAIL

• A 52-year-old man was arrested on Friday evening after allegedly pushing his ex-girlfriend and threatening to cut her up with a sword, according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers called about 7:30 p.m. to the 1000 block of Long Road in Centralia booked Edward A. Morgan, of Chehalis, into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault, according to police.

ONY FIGHT ENDS WITH ARREST

• A 21-year-old Onalaska man was arrested for taking swings at a large group of people who attempted to break up a fight between him and another subject at about 7:50 a.m. on Friday at the 300 block of Carlisle Avenue, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Connor F. Green allegedly refused to identify himself, lied about having a gun and was resistive when deputies tried to detain him. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail, for disorderly conduct, resisting and obstructing, according to the sheriff’s office.

BAD TEXTS AND PHONE CALLS

• Centralia police were contacted about 10:15 p.m. yesterday on West Third Street about a girl receiving sexually explicit text messages from a man. They are investigating.

• A mother called Centralia police on Friday to report her daughter received more than 300 phone calls from a male the daughter has a protection order against, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case is under investigation.

• Chehalis police were called about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday to the 400 block of North Market Boulevard where a man complained he got a harassing text from the grown son of the woman he is dating. He was asked to make a formal report after he sobered up, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

INTOXICATED 20-YEAR-OLD STUMBLES ACROSS DEPUTY

• A 20-year-old Chehalis man found about 2:33 a.m. on Saturday drunk and staggering down the side of the roadway at the 600 block of Forest Napavine Road West south of Chehalis was given a citation and then a ride home. Gregory S. Albright, who said he’d been drinking Bacardi and Jack Daniels, was cited for minor in possession and / or consumption, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Someone stole the steering wheel (and ignition) to a 1987 Jeep pickup at the 1300 block of North Pearl Street in Centralia, according to a report made to police just before noon yesterday.

BURGLARY AND THEFT

• Centralia police were called about 3:30 p.m. yesterday to the 1800 block of North Pearl Street where they were told a home had been broken into and video games stolen.

• Police took a report yesterday about 1:15 p.m. of a break-in to a basement of a residence on the 600 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia. It’s not clear if anything is missing or how or even if someone got inside, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Chehalis police were called about 9:15 p.m. on Saturday regarding the theft from an enclosed back porch on the 600 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue of two chainsaws, a leaf blower and a weed eater sometime during the day.

• The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning they identified a possible suspect through security video in the theft of a ski bag with gear valued at more than $1,100 from the White Pass Ski Lodge on the 13000 block of U.S. Highway 12 that occurred last Tuesday. The victim is a 63-year-old Longview man, according to the sheriff’s office.

DRUGS

• A 24-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and heroin when they were allegedly found on her after she was picked up on a warrant at the 1000 block of South Gold Street in Centralia Saturday afternoon. An officer contacted Chantel Latour just after 1 p.m. at the same time as contacting another person with a warrant, according to the Centralia Police Department. Latour and 27-year-old David Lindsay were booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• A 51-year-old Centralia man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a stolen motorcycle on Friday at North Gold and Marion streets in Centralia. Martin W. Gallagher was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

OOPS

• Chehalis police were contacted by security personnel at Wal-Mart about 7 p.m. last night who said they received a call from a woman who said she’d just arrived home and realized she left her toddler in a shopping cart in the parking lot. A spokesperson for the police department said there was no arrest and no report written, so she didn’t know any more details or even if it truly occurred.

• A 35-year-old Centralia man was arrested about 2 p.m. yesterday after he allegedly walked into traffic at West Main Street and Harrison in Centralia and intentionally hit a passing vehicle. Ranier P. Wagner was booked into the Lewis County Jail for disorderly conduct and malicious mischief, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 33-year-old homeless man was arrested yesterday morning after he was allegedly threatening people as he rode his bike in the area of the 1700 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia. Terry L. Bryan, who is from Chehalis, appeared to be under the influence of some type of drugs and was booked into the Lewis County for disorderly conduct, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 49-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for disorderly conduct around noon Wednesday when police discovered she was walking in the middle of the street at North Tower Avenue and East Pine Street in Centralia. Barbara A. Heppe was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. Heppe was booked for the same thing last week and the week before.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

• Centralia police arrested a 36-year-old Centralia man about 7 p.m. yesterday after he allegedly physically prevented his wife from leaving their home during an argument. Robert D. Hutcherson was booked into the Lewis County Jail for unlawful imprisonment, but released from jail this afternoon.

DRUGS

• Centralia police arrested two people about 6:20 a.m. today for possession of methamphetamine and fourth-degree domestic assault. Nathaniel S. McDrummond, and Kayla K. Cunha, both 24 and both homeless were booked into the Lewis County Jail after contact with officers at the 1000 block of Eckerson Road, according to the Centralia Police Department.

THEFT

• Centralia police took a report on Tuesday afternoon that someone broke into the Borst home on the 2500 block of Pioneer Way and stole a clock.

• A deputy was called yesterday to vacant residential property on the 100 block of Nikula Road West in Winlock where someone had broken in and left with three folding chairs and a cable box sometime since noon the day before. Damaged were two windows and a mercury vapor light, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

• Centralia police were called to the 500 block of South Tower Avenue on Tuesday afternoon where someone had attempted to break into a shop and likely got an electric shock when they cut a large wire outside, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A utility trailer and tools were reported stolen on Tuesday from the 300 block of N Street in Centralia, according to police.

UPDATE FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• Murder defendant Weston G. Miller is scheduled for a change of plea this coming Wednesday, not for the murder count but for the second-degree unlawful possession of firearms charges which were filed at the same time after his house guest was fatally shot a year ago in his Centralia home. Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor Brad Meagher said yesterday it was at the request of Miller and Miller’s attorney and he presumed it was for “strategic” reasons. Miller’s trial for first-degree murder in the death of 43-year-old David Wayne Carson is still on the calendar for the week of April 15. He was initially charged with five counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm but one of those has been dropped by prosecutors. Meagher said a gun has to actually be a functioning firearm but police were afraid to test fire it.

AUTHORITIES POINT TO WALL HEATER IN COUNTY SHOP FIRE

• The fire that destroyed the Lewis County road department shop east of Glenoma on Friday night appears to have originated with a 10-15-year-old Cadet heater. Whether it malfunctioned, there was an electrical issue or perhaps over time dried out the wood behind it isn’t yet known, according to Paulette Young who is the risk and safety administrator for the county. Young described the heater as one that was installed in the wall, set at a certain temperature and generally left turned on. The large metal building and its contents are a total loss, she said. Among the items destroyed were four 12-yard dump trucks, two front-end loaders, other heavy equipment, trucks and smaller tools, according to Young. The new replacement value for the equipment alone would be around $2 million, Lewis County public works director and county engineer Tim Elsea said today. Elsea said a temporary office has been set up on the site, with power getting hooked up to it today. “It’s definitely a tragedy, without a doubt,” Elsea said. “Seeing those guys go through it is very hard.” About nine road department employees begin and end their workdays at the site, where their tools were stored, he said. The heater was originally put in  a room with a well head, but since was used to keep sandbags dry, according to Young. Elsea said he’s asked supervisors to go out and make sure they don’t have those types of heaters installed in any of the other four similar shops around the county. Elsea said he didn’t know when the last time was the county fire marshal inspected the building. They won’t know the final cost of the fire until after they meet with their insurers next week.
