SMOKE ALARMS ALERT PAIR TO HOUSE FIRE
• Two Adna area residents were displaced after a fire broke out early yesterday morning in the bathroom of their manufactured home. Firefighters called to the 100 block of Meadow Drive at about 5:30 a.m. arrived to find the dwelling glowing orange with smoke rising from the roof and the two adult occupants outside, according to Lewis County Fire District 6. One of them had told 911 dispatchers they awoke to their smoke alarms, found a ceiling fan in a bathroom was burning and fire was spreading to the roof, according to District 6’s DJ Hammer. Personnel from American Medical Response evaluated both victims and concluded they were uninjured, according to Hammer. The fire was quickly knocked down, confining the damage to the one room and hallway areas, Hammer said. Red Cross was called to assist the residents in obtaining a room at a local hotel for the night. District 6 was assisted by five area fire departments. Hammer noted the value of working smoke alarms, which roused the occupants from their sleep, allowed them to evacuate unhurt, and enabled a faster fire department response limiting damage to the residence.
