Fourteen people evacuated themselves from a north Centralia home when a fire broke out in a back bedroom early this morning. Nobody was injured.

Firefighters called about 4:50 a.m. to the 1500 block of Crescent Avenue found a moderate amount of smoke coming from the three bedroom manufactured home, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

Acting Fire Capt. Jennifer Ternan said she believed four of the occupants were children, and there were a couple of dogs as well.

Firefighters extinguished a small amount of bedding, she said. The damage was contained to the bedroom, with only a small spot of the flooring burned, she said.

Ternan didn’t have all the details as she didn’t conduct the interview, but a 4-year-old child will be referred to the department’s juvenile fire starter program, she said.

The residents were able to reoccupy the home after it was over, she said.

Watching that house get evacuated must have been like watching a clown car empty out.

  2. Guilty Bystander says:

Not everyone is averse to stacking people like cordwood in limited living spaces. Happens all the time in some places.

It sounds like something from an 80’s movie starring Drew Barrymore!

But hey, having 14 people in a house built for a family of 4 might also be a contributing factor in childhood delinquency.

Can you imagine being only 4 years old and having to live with 13 other people and two dogs in a tiny house?

The juvenile fire starter program works with kids who like to play with matches, etc to help them realize what can happen. It does seem like boys go through a stage of playing with fire and this helps kids see the danger.
Either that or it is a program designed to help kids become better arsonists ha ha but I tend to go with the first choice.

14 people in a 3 bedroom home with a couple of dogs? haha. Really? No seriously, really?

And a 4 year-old being referred to a ‘fire starter program’? WTF is that? lol No seriously, i’ve never heard of such a thing.

Color me funny, but that whole thing ^^^ smells funny.

I welcome any attempt at explanation because I’ve got nothing.
