News brief: Lewis County bail situation changed for Steven Moulton

CHEHALIS – Lewis County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer asked a judge today to issue a no-bail warrant for 22-year-old Steven Moulton of Morton.

Moulton is being held on $500,000 bail in a Cowlitz County sex-related offense, but Meyer wants to be certain if he is released, he will be brought to the Lewis County Jail.

Moulton has a pending case in Lewis County from last summer when he was found inside a park bathroom stall in Morton with an 8-year-old boy.

He was charged in November in that case, but authorities have been awaiting a competency evaluation to be conducted by Western State Hospital.

While he was free on a $25,000 signature bond, he allegedly attacked an 8-year-old boy in a ballpark restroom in Castle Rock.

Also, possible charges are pending in Thurston County for a June 27 incident at the Maytown rest area north of Centralia in which authorities say he groped and kissed a 9-year-old boy.

Meyer said Cowlitz County has requested a competency evaluation as well.

He told the judge he is amending the Lewis County request for an evaluation to reflect Moulton is currently incarcerated in Cowlitz County.

Moulton’s attorney in Lewis County noted that the lag time for Western State in getting those reviews done on subjects who are not in custody is six to nine months.

Yeah, Busty, he DOES seem to be playing that “not knowing better” card… but after several incidents, it is obvious that he DOES know what he is doing. He could also pull out the “but I’m really sick and that attracts me to young boys” card, but I can’t buy that one either.

Let’s just hope that this predator gets removed from society before someone really and truly gets hurt.

I DONT AGREE WITH ALLOWING THIS PONDSCUM TO BE SENT TO A HOSPITAL FOR ANY EVALUATION,HES PLAYING THE CRAZY GAME FOR THE SYSTEM AND UNTIL RECENTLY BEEN ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH IT,,THERE IS TREATMENT FOR THIS TYPE OF MONSTER ,BUT I WONT SAY BUT U ALL KNOW WHAT I MEAN,,,HOW MANY VICTIMS WILL COME FORWARD NOW THAT HES CAUGHT?I AM A MOM OF 2 AND I FEEL FOR THESE CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS,,IF THIS HAPPENED TO ANY OF MY KIDS.WELL I WOULD GUT THE MONSTER SLOWLY,,,,AS FOR THE MENTAL ILLNESS COPOUT,WE ALL AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER COULD CLAIM BEING DEPRESSED,ETC..BUT WE KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG,,,AS HE DOES TOO,,DAMN LEWIS COUNTY SEEMS TO SAY ITS OKAY TO KILL PEOPLE AND HURT CHILDREN,WE WILL LET U GO FREE,,THE FIRST PART IS BOUT ANOTHER CASE,,,I WISH I WAS JUDGE JURY AND EXECUTIONER…..

  3. KR says:

Ahh. Agreed, what an absurd amount of time it has taken for a proper mental examination.

  4. George says:

KR, my comment about him “being young” and all that stuff was simple sarcasm. I’m sorry if you took it the wrong way, maybe thinking that I was trying to make up excuses for his behavior. I was not, as I find this sort of behavior from ANYONE to be reprehensible. He should never have been let out on bail, but should have been sent to the hospital for observation and treatment… and THEN sent to the courts for punishment….

  5. KR says:

I don’t exactly understand what him “being young” has to do with it. He’s 22, that’s an adult by every standard. It would seem more his mental capacity (or lack thereof) would be what afforded him these chances. But I definitely don’t think that issue was handled appropriately.

  6. George says:

Busty, what really gets to me is why this guy was released on such a low bond in the Lewis County case, and why there was no supervision over the conditions of his release. Anyone else does that, and they get locked up with no parole… this guy needed the same treatment…. but he is young, so we “have to” give him 2nd chance after 2nd chance after… well, you get the idea, right?

  7. bustybabe says:

I HOPE TO GOD THEY LOCK THIS MONSTER UP AND EITHER CASTRATE HIM OR LET HIM ROT IN PRISON,,,HE KNEW RIGHT FROM WRONG AND SO KEEP HIM LOCKED UP,,,PREFERABLY IN GENERAL POPULATION,,,THERES NO ALLEGED ABOUT IT IF HES BEING CHARGED IN 3 DIFFERENT CASES,,,HES GUILTY,,, IF THE JUDGE LETS HIM OUT,IM GONNA BE A FRIENDLY NEIGHBOR AND GO SEE WHERE HE LIVES,,,,LOL..NO THREAT INTENDED
