CHEHALIS – The sheriff’s office says it arrested two of the main narcotics distributors in East Lewis County yesterday, and one of them is Denise R. Salts – the woman who was shot in the face when her boyfriend and two others were slain last August.
Salts, 52, of Glenoma, was arrested for delivery of methamphetamine after sheriff’s deputies and their SWAT team served a search warrant yesterday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Also arrested for the same offense was Venus D. Hamilton, 47, of Morton, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said today.
Brown said members of the Lewis County Narcotics Task Force conducted several undercover drug buy operations during May and June in East Lewis County.
Salts was the lone survivor when in the night on August 21, her live-in boyfriend David J. West Sr., his 16-year-old son and a friend from Mineral were fatally shot inside a Salkum-Onalaska area home off of Gore Road.
John Allen Booth Jr. is charged with her attempted murder, murder, attempted extortion and unlawful possession of a firearm. His trial is scheduled for August. His former cell mate Ryan J. McCarthy, 29, is also charged in the case.
Brown didn’t say when or where the arrests were made yesterday.
She did say both individuals were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Lewis County Jail.
Hamilton is shown as being booked at 3:21 p.m. yesterday and Salts was booked at 12:49 a.m. today, according to the jail roster.
Also yesterday in East Lewis County, a 48-year-old Randle man was arrested at his home following undercover purchases of marijuana made during June, Brown said.
At about 5 p.m., deputies searched David E. Bellamy’s residence on the 200 block of Skinner Road and turned up almost 42 grams of suspected marijuana, scales and what Brown called a ledger.
When Bellamy arrived home just after 6:30 p.m., he was taken into custody without incident, she said. He was booked for three counts of delivery of marijuana, according to Brown.

and Star, no one was selling anything, no one has been convicted, only accused. Accused, because a lower life form was not human enough to take the trouble they were facing. As I said in a earlier comment:

Janet, I AM unbiased in this case (and in most cases), wishing to see the facts as presented BY BOTH SIDES in order to make my judgement. If the case has already been judged, then one pretty much has to deal with that. This case has not been judged yet, at least not by me. I’m waiting to see what becomes of it…
And hopefully the government (law enforcement, prosecuting attorneys, etc…) are indeed being fair. As it stands right now, well, the evidence points in one direction, but there may just possibly be something that we aren’t being told that changes everything….
And you ARE correct, in that if the government gets it in their mind to put someone away (or to do anything…), unless you speak up, they won’t listen. If you DO speak up and they STILL don’t listen, then the only thing that CAN be done is to remove those officials who will not listen… either through elections, or through revolution.

Yes, you also have enablers (who may also be in denial). And yes, people of all walks of life have all sorts of skeletons buried in the closets (I keep mine buried in the back yard). So not everyone is completely innocent, everyone having done something bad at one time or another.
As for the brutal slayings in Salkum and what they have to do with this particular case, the only connections are one person who survived being executed, and drugs. Did any of those people who were killed deserve it? I’m willing to bet the answer is a resounding “NO!”, but it happened anyways. They have the suspects in jail, and their time before a jury will begin shortly. Then there is the question of drugs.
If you go to any major city, and far too often even in small towns, drugs are becoming more and more prevalent. Just look at jail rosters, and you will see that a majority of the people are there for drugs, whether it be for use, delivery, manufacture, whatever. Lots of counties also have programs (like Lewis Co., with “Drug Court”) that try to help people get away from drugs.
These programs, while very well intended, fail more often than they succeed. It’s not because the people are weak, but because of the stranglehold that drugs can have on people. Sure, they might complete the program and have their charges either reduced or dropped, but greater than 50% of the people who “graduate” from the program re-offend.
Sadly, far too many people who are on drugs, or who deal drugs (or both), they have family members who are enablers. They are in denial that their loved one could be dealing or using. That is how strong drugs can be. It’s not just the users and dealers that pay for it, but it is also their family members. It is their friends. It is their associates and co-workers.
This case has not been before a judge and jury yet for adjudication, so the people involved, while they are accused of delivering drugs, they are still innocent, as they have not been proven to be guilty. Did they, indeed, do what they are accused of? We’ll know soon enough…..

That is a major consideration when it all comes down to it. You know what sarah I’m sorry that this happened and it turned out the way it did but I believe after hearing the prosecutors and police I know what your mom could have done to save them.And if anyone deserved to be the survivor it should have been my brother he was the only truely innocent one there..And I know the truth too

You will also find how those cases are adjudicated (one person from this article had once case, the other had two).
Sarah, just because a person is dealing drugs, that doesn’t mean they are going to have cars and houses and riches galore. A vast majority of drug dealers are also users themselves. Just because someone tested clean in a drug test does NOT mean they aren’t a user.
The current case, however, has not been adjudicated as of yet, so your mother IS innocent, up to and until she is proven guilty. Yes, I know you hate the cops for arresting your mother, and all the lies they are spreading, but what if they aren’t lies?
You must remember that drugs are extremely powerful. The draw they have is almost overwhelming for some people, no matter how hard they try. But drug use doesn’t only affect those who take drugs, it also affect family members, especially those who don’t use, and never have used. One of those affects is DENIAL.
So, IS your mother guilty of what she is charged with? WE (by “we” I mean EVERY person looking at this, including you…) don’t know, as she has not been convicted or acquitted of any of the recent charges.
Then, and ONLY then, will the truth be known.
I lived there with my mom and my step-dad and step-brother till one month before the shooting. I talked to my mom after she got out of jail, and they tested her and guess what?! SHE WAS CLEAN. No drugs or anything in her system. Yes my mom has made her mistakes, but she has also paid her time. If there was any drugs in that house, I would have known about it, cuz I was there in that house and seen EVERYTHING with my own eyes. The police were after my mom from a couple years ago, they suspected that she was doing drugs, but she didnt. I know what my mom was like when she was doing meth, but she has changed. My mom has NOT used meth since she got out of jail for the first time. Don’t you think that if my mom was selling drugs right now then she would have a house, and a car? She doesn’t have either, she has to stay with friends and ask other people to take her places. She doesn’t have money to pay her cell phone most the time. I know the truth, and most of you don’t, so you can keep saying what you want, but in the end I KNOW WHAT THE TRUTH IS.

Karen, I think you misread Janets comment. If you read it again you will see that she actually is on Sarah’s side. When she said “Give Up” I think she meant give up on thinking you will get very far even when you take the high road because it all boils down to whatever the govt., local agencies and so on want, is what they will get because they are corrupt. The message is actually just what sarah needs to read from people. People who understand what she is going through and have been through it themselves. I know you you just misread it and you have her back too so you go girl.
For one thing, if Sarah has information that would prove that her mother is not involved in any way with drugs, then we would like to see it, as that would completely repudiate anything that the media is telling us. By remaining silent, the ONLY thing we have to go on is what the media reports, or what law enforcement and the prosecutors release to the public. So far, most, if not all, of that information points to someone who is allegedly a player in the use, sale, and distribution of illegal narcotics (I say “alleged” since she has only been charged, not convicted.)
However, if one does some basic research, you CAN find records showing that the two persons arrested in conjunction with the methamphetamine case have had their time in court before, for drugs, and for the crimes that drugs bring about. So, we also have THAT to go by.
And so, I once again implore Sarah to give us proof that her mother is not involved in the current case, so we have something else to go with here. Otherwise, her silence shows that she has nothing.

That is why the local government, almost all the agencies, and mostly law enforcement, get away with whatever they want! They back each other up! Then, if your bold enough to try to take it to a higher power, ha, give it up! Its a big dead end!
When you face that dead end it puts you back, face to face, with the corrupt powers that you are trying to expose. And that, is where it will end. They win, they will always win!
Check the internet, it is full of people just like me, who all, at the end, will tell you to stop. Dont push it any further, there is no retribution for the evilness of our government! It is deep and it is scary! The government of the entire country is littered with enough corrupt people to keep citizens like us subdued!

No one here has the right to judge my mothee or what she has been through. You only know the stories that the media prints out an embeds in your head. I know what happen and why MY family got shot, and the news papers are lying about it.
Id just like to throw my comment out there about Denise, she gets busted and then I look this morning and shes out of jail. The one who allegedly killed the three isn’t getting what is deserved (the death penalty). His accomplice isn’t either.
The ones in THIS case, well, apparently, the one didn’t learn her lesson after surviving the attempt to execute her, and the other ones, well, they’ll get what they got coming….
Justice is slowly being served all will get what they know is coming to them..
