AUTO THEFT

• Chehalis police were called about 11:45 a.m. on Thursday about a car stolen from its driveway on the 1400 block of Southwest Snively Avenue. The caller had the blue 2004 Dodge Stratus running while working on it, stepped away for a couple of minutes and returned to find the vehicle gone, according to the Chehalis Police Department. It has a license plate reading BNA 8672, according to police.

DRUGS

• A 31-year-old Chehalis resident arrested on a state Department of Corrections warrant last night at the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Officers had been asked to check on his welfare and when he was detained, located a smoking device with residue consistent with methamphetamine, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Brian A. Esparza was was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

• When officers contacted a 37-year-old man who allegedly brandished a knife to customers at a business on the 1200 block of Mellen Street in Centralia about 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, he allegedly was found to be in possession of methamphetamines. John J. Crook, of Centralia, was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

VANDALISM

• Police were called to the 10 block of Southwest Seventh Street in Chehalis about 2:15 p.m. on Thursday because an unknown person or persons had smashed the driver’s side window of a vehicle parked on the street.

• Chehalis police were called to the 900 block of Northwest State Avenue at about noon on Thursday where an unknown person or persons had damaged the gas tanks to “a couple of” vehicles parked there, possibly in an attempt to steal fuel. It will cost about $250 apiece to make the repairs, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
