DRIVER THINKS WILD DOGS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS INJURY

• A 36-year-old motorist knocked on a door along the 300 block of Big Hanaford Road about 3:50 a.m. yesterday to say he struck a deer and when he got out to check, he was attacked by a pack of wild coyotes. Sloan D. Schoffstall had a bite mark, or an abrasion, on his right hand but also displayed obvious signs he’d been consuming alcohol, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested for driving under the influence and when he was searched, a pair of brass knuckles were found in his back pocket, according to the sheriff’s office. He was found to be driving with a suspended license, Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said. Deputies concluded it was possible he was attacked by a neighborhood dog or something else, but not a pack of coyotes, Kimsey said. Schoffstall was booked into the Lewis County Jail, Kimsey said.

DRIVE-BY SIGN SHOOTING

• Four young men from Cowlitz County were detained following reports they were driving around shooting county road signs in the area of Howe and Spencer roads near Toledo early yesterday morning. A deputy responding just before 1 a.m. located the suspect Chevrolet Silverado at the 4900 block of Jackson Highway, found four occupants in the vehicle and after interviews, arrested three of them for reckless endangerment and then released them, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Arrested were William Hogg, 19, from Longview; Austin Gillum, 21, of Castle Rock; and the driver, Shane Hummel, 22, also of Castle Rock, Chief Deputy Bruce Kimsey said. A 20-year-old Castle Rock resident was the only one who apparently did not fire one of the two guns found, Kimsey said.

ASSAULT

• A 37-year-old Centralia man was arrested for second-degree assault for allegedly choking the mother of his children and denied her leaving a residence at the 1300 block of Logan Street in Centralia early Saturday morning. Officers called about 12:10 a.m. booked Jesse C. Sheldon into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A juvenile who allegedly punched a female who was sleeping in a vehicle at the 2800 block of Russell Road in Centralia about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday was arrested for first-degree burglary, minor in possession and/or consumption, a probation violation and obstructing. The boy was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the Centralia Police Department.

MORE BRASS KNUCKLES

• A 25-year-old Centralia man arrested about 12:40 p.m. on Sunday at the 400 block of North Ash Street in Centralia for a warrant was also arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon because a set of brass knuckles were allegedly found on his person when he was searched. Isaac J. Cisneros  was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department.

POSSIBLE BREAK-INS

• Chehalis police were called just after noon on Sunday to the 600 block of Northwest State Avenue where someone had broken a back door.

• Chehalis police were called to the 10 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just before 10 a.m. on Saturday on a report of a possible burglary, and a possible suspect of a family member.

DRUGS

• A 43-year-old man picked up on an outstanding warrant at his home in a trailer park on the 400 block of state Route 506 in Vader at about 5:50 p.m. on Friday was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine as a glass pipe in his pocket had a white residue that field tested positive for the drug, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Jeramy A. Fine  was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

• Juan M. Lopez-Abrego, 19, of Centralia, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine after being contacted by police for a trespassing complaint at the 1100 bock of Harrison Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. on Friday, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

CAR PROWL

• A vehicle prowl was reported just after 4 p.m. on Sunday behind a business at the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue in Chehalis.

• Centralia police were called about 7:30 p.m. on Friday about vehicle tires slashed at the 2000 block of North Tower Avenue.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

• Chehalis police were called at 9 a.m. on Saturday to take a report of a rape associated with the 300 block of Southwest Third Street.
