CHEHALIS – A 57-year-old man from Rochester is dead after his motorcycle hit a pickup truck head on yesterday evening on a county road east of Napavine.
Law enforcement and aid were called at 4:55 p.m. to the scene just east of Interstate 5 and north of state Route 508.
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said the motorcyclist was westbound on Forest-Napavine Road East and swerved when an east bound truck pulling a flatbed trailer went to turn north onto Kirkland Road.
“He hit a Ford F150 pickup head on,” Chief Deputy Breen said.
Nobody else was injured and the Rochester man was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital, according to Breen. Kelvin Winterowd died at the hospital, according to the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.
Personnel from the Washington State Patrol assisted with investigation. Breen said one of the items they will be trying to determine is if the motorcycle’s headlight was turned on.
I knew Kelvin from Army days. We served in Korea together. Everyone who has served with him remembers who he was. Not the type of person you could forget. Always thought of him as a friend even after loosing touch. In recent years we had re-connected on Facebook, and had spoke on the phone quite a bit. I was happy to learn he had re-connected with the Lord and am even more comforted now that I know his destination. Rest in peace brother, and see you later.
Kevin was a great guy he would give u shirt off his back if u needed it and wouldn’t think twice . I have known him for many years . I met him when I was 16 years old . In Rochester I am 48 now . We use to ride everywhere when I could . He just started to get me on toy runs we just went to this last it was so fun he makes me laugh all the time and others . He was just the kindness person I ever met . I am going to miss u bro . The world will miss you very much . Rip bro . I know his family is missing him so much as well . Love you bro …
He was such an influence on me and made me feel like I belonged in the cr and Grace four square family. I don’t think we would have made it to where we are today without him and his wife. We will all feel his absence but we will still have great memories of our time with him.love you man
I served with Kelvin in the 271st Aviation Company in Korea 1982-83. He was a great soldier. RIP old friend.
Was saddened to learn of Kelvin’s death. Was an old army buddy and great friend. We had recently reconnected after 30+ years and talked regular on phone in the last couple years. Ride free and fly high my old Hooker Friend.
He is my cousin and this news saddens my heart. I just the day of his passing told a story about him of a terrible motorcycle accident he and I witnessed many many yrs ago. RIP I LOVE YOU.
RIP Kelvin!!! Fly high with the Angels!!! You will be greatly missed!!
Kelvin was a great guy and a very loving person. It’s sad to see him go, but he’s in a better place now. I remember when he first welcomed my family to Grace Foursquare, he was one of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. I’m heartbroken for his family.
Kelvin was a dear friend, a fellow member of the Redemption Riders chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association. And a kind soal that never new a stranger. He kept his bike in top shape and had just picked it up from the shop. For those that don’t know the head light is on at all times on a motorcycle. You can’t turn it off. Kelvin was an experienced and safe rider. This is the risk those of us who love riding take. He loved Jesus, his wife, and riding. Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. Follow Kelvin’s lead. Love your family like there’s no tomorrow and get to know The Savior Jesus Christ.
I knew the man, his name was Kelvin, he was a very kind, loving man, and a real pillar of our community here in Centralia. It’s so sad to see him go, but he’s in a better place now.
He wouldn’t ride without them!
