CHEHALIS – He said he came to the door with a loaded AK-47, but put it down when law enforcement outside verified who they were, court documents state.
Twenty-three-year-old Drannon B. Smythe was charged today in Lewis County Superior Court with possession of heroin with intent to deliver, possession of methamphetamine and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
The criminal charges follow his arrest at his Chehalis home yesterday on the 200 block of Newaukum Valley Golf Course Drive, according to the documents.
Drug detectives served a search warrant there, seizing thirteen firearms from around the apartment, several of which were loaded, including a TEC-9 that was on the wall, the documents relate.
Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Paul Masiello writes law enforcement collected approximately one ounce of heroin, roughly a quarter ounce of meth, digital scales and just over $3,000 cash as well as several prescription pills. They found thousands of clean, unused baggies, according to Masiello.
Smythe allegedly told detectives the guns belonged to him and he’d obtained them through drug transactions.
He reportedly said if law enforcement had served the warrant the previous day, he’d have had pounds of methamphetamine, but he was robbed.
The case was handled by the local Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team. Further details were not readily available this afternoon.
Temporary defense attorney Joely O’Rourke told the judge this afternoon her client was currently unemployed and has only one previous conviction.
Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Joel DeFazio requested bail be set at $25,000. Judge Nelson Hunt ordered Smythe held with $100,000 bail.

Don Johnson and exceptionally normal you are both dumb ass hillbilly that give lewis county the stigma it has with your dumb ass right wing lock everybody up mentality. Both if you are worthless humans with a hideous personality
The guy was a mid-level dealer for an organized Mexican narco distribution ring.
Anyone who has any sympathy from this turd needs to have a Psych. evaluation. He made a choice to get involved in drugs and the drug lifestyle. No illness in the world makes you do dope or trade in stolen property. Your friends choices got him where he’s at today no an “illness”. Think of the lives that this assholes actions have affected, feel for them, not the criminal, drug pusher, thief that this turd has decided to become. Choices got him here, hope prison is tough on him, he’s earned it.
Don’t do drugs
Don’t do drugs
Thank you Prayerwarrior & Loganrico..i did not know him either, but even just from what this article says, he seems to be a troubled but otherwise kind person out to intentionally harm no one. I think he may have told the cops what he did because he wanted to get caught & get help..
Good For you Loganrico for standing up for this human being. Yes, he was wrong and needs to pay for it, but–addiction is an illness and he also needs help. This could be anyone’s son, brother or friend. It sounds like he surrendered peacefully and did not go out looking to harm anyone. This is where addiction leads some otherwise harmless people. He probably didn’t start out with heroin and meth. This society condones legal drugs like alcohol, prescription drugs and now cannabis. People who are prone to addiction usually graduate to these harder drugs after exposure to the legal ones. This is no different than the Judge or Airline pilot who get busted for DUI. It is terrible and needs to be stopped but that doesn’t make the person an idiot. I do not know this person but like Loganrico, I have compassion for him and his family.
Many of you may not know this young man. But he was a decent friend of mine in school. Now you may not care. But he’s not a scumbag. What he has done is wrong. And he knows he was in the wrong. His family cares a deep amount for him and we went through a lot growing up. I’m not trying to defend him. But he’s still a friend. And a decent person. He would give the shirt off his back for someone
Now give this guy 20 years to life.
His suppliers mustn’t have a care in the world right now.
What a stupid idiot, thank you for getting him off the street.
Thank GOD someone, anyone, took all the drugs and guns from this man because i cannot begin to fathom what someone who is stupid enough to tell law enforcment anything during a bust LET ALONE that the firearms belonged to them and that they had had pounds of meth the day before, would be capeable of doing given the opportunity. I fully expect it would start with watering his plants with Gatorade and end in executions by monster truck.
Whew…thank goodness he was robbed the day before or he would have been found with more methamphetamine. Luck him……….stupid!
