CAR THEFT

• Centralia police responded to an approximately 3:30 a.m. report today that someone stole a white 1992 Honda Accord from the area of Reynolds Avenue and North Pearl Street.

CAR PROWL

• Police were called to the 1000 block of North Scheuber Road in Centralia about 9:50 a.m. yesterday for a vehicle prowl. The ignition was damaged and a small green cooler was missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

FUNNY MONEY

• Someone spent a counterfeit $100 bill at a retail store on the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia, according to a report made to police about 5:30 a.m. today.

SEXUAL ASSAULT REPORT

• Centralia police were contacted yesterday to take a report of a rape that occurred at the 1000 block of Eckerson Road earlier this year. The case is under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

‘YOU’VE GOT MAIL’

• Chehalis police were called just before 11:30 p.m. yesterday by a female at the 400 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue who said she just had a note pushed through her mail slot. An officer responded and spoke with her and advised extra patrols in the area, according to the Chehalis Police Department. The contents of the note were not revealed by police, but they made the recipient nervous, according to a department spokesperson.

DRUGS

• A 30-year-old Centralia man was found with a baggie that tested positive for meth when he was picked up on a warrant about 8:35 a.m. yesterday at the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue in Chehalis, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Christian J. Rangel Ocampo was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.

BIRD ABUSE

• Chehalis police were called about 2:35 p.m. yesterday to the 600 block of North National Avenue where an individual said they saw a pedestrian abusing a bird. They said he was kicking it, throwing it on the ground and against a wall before tossing it into a field, according to the Chehalis Police Department. A responding officer couldn’t find the bird or the suspect, according to police.

STRUCTURE FIRE

• Firefighters were called just before 9 a.m. yesterday to the 3600 block of Jackson Highway where a cluster of portable storage buildings, with metal roofs, were burning. It was fairly straightforward to extinguish but the loss is in the neighborhood of $5,000 to $7,000, according to Lewis County Fire District 5. A nearby travel trailer sustained heavy smoke damage and some fire damage, Lt. Laura Hanson said. A chicken house was involved but since the poultry was roaming, none were harmed, Hanson said. Someone had been burning in a wood stove inside the structure, she said.

• A passenger vehicle rolled over into the median after a collision involving a log truck about 5:40 a.m. today on Interstate 5 near milepost 68. The passenger vehicle’s driver self extricated but was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital with medics, according to Lewis County Fire District 5.
