CHEHALIS – A worker walked off the job at Cowlitz Timber Trails near Salkum yesterday after encountering an angry 69-year-old man who reportedly held him at gunpoint, telling him he could shoot him and anyone else who came onto his property, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy called just before 12:20 p.m. about the incident at the 1800 block of Spencer Road was told it happened on the property line in the woods and the 42-year-old resident of Silver Creek had been using a chainsaw to clear brush.
The victim said the man was pointing the firearm at him from within five feet, ranting about a property dispute and the victim was very afraid he was going to die, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. The gunman after about 30 seconds put his pistol away and the victim walked off the job, according to the sheriff’s office.
Cowlitz Timber Trails is a membership-based camping and recreation property along the Cowlitz River.
Roger K. Wilkinson, 69, Salkum, was contacted, arrested for first-degree assault and booked into the Lewis County Jail. He is scheduled to be brought before a judge this afternoon in Lewis County Superior Court to hear what, if any, charges will be filed against him.

Duck off, you are completely incorrect in your assessment of me. I own guns, drink well water, and stand while urinating(whatever that has to do with it). I have confronted a couple of folks on my property and never felt whimpy enough to have to bring along one of my guns to do it
If some old idiot pulls a gun on me he better use it. I would kick his ass for that. Property or not, you should speak to someone in a civilized manner. This guy wouldn’t make it 5 minutes in the big city. This guy has Trump fever. Calm down Grandpa. If you have to bring a gun that means YOU are scared. Just like Trayvon Martin. He was kicking that guys ass so the other guy(the one that started he fight) pulled out his gun and shot him. Be a man, fight like a man. Sometimes you get your ass kicked, that’s the way it goes. A lot of my good friends I met by getting into a fight with them. What if I just killed one of them because I was losing a fight? It’s insane.
Peabody you were the mindless Nazi with the gun.
aren’t we all a bunch of knuckle heads here, don’t we have to make our assumptions based on the information we gather from the story whether they are true or not-we cant tell, but based on the information provided, there is nothing to indicate that anyone trespassed on anyone’s property , just that it sounds like a 69 year old seems to think that the 42 year old was possibly on his property, but the information given doesn’t agree with this? We all have a right to protect our property if it is our property-I would have to agree with “facts said” on this one until more information is produced
Dont like the Laws, then Bumrush the Tyranical White House and Congress. Lets Show them what the 2nd Amendment is for. Has nothing to do with Hunting and everything to do with keeping tyranical Governments in the People’s Control. The Global Tension is so thick you can cut it with a Knife. Cops point Guns at Citizen each and every day without charges filed againt them. As a Citizen you have a God given right to aim You’re weapon if you are startled or confronted with an unknown threat just like a Police Officer ‘Peace Officer’
It’s how you use your gun after you lock eyes on the trespasser that counts or makes the crime. In this case from what I’ve read no harm was done no crime was committed except by the State for putting the property owner in Jail for Being an Armed American with property rights. Yes people please Lay off the Fluoride Stew it’s affecting you’re Pineal Gland and causing you to be German Prison Camp Victims.
Very valid points Duck off. I like how the story has nothing mentioned of the conversation of the two people. Maybe if it was available it would make more sense?
Freethinker – Another typical stoned fluoride drinking liberal who will never own land or a gun for that matter; who squats when he pees.
Since your begging for a reply,…
Money into courts for lawyers, judges, security detail, housing another inmate. Yeah it is not free.
Its his land,… His gun,… His property rights,… A chainsaw is potentially a weapon,… and can destroy property in literally one minute. We have pirate loggers cutting down maples for drug money. Some of them are armed,… high,… and tresspassing. People set up drug labs (meth and pot grows) and harvest fire wood illegally. He had every right to hold a potential criminal at gun point till officers arrived. Or as the story goes,… a dispute with the land owner who the ‘brush cutter’ clearly was not and had to be identified. Simply calling the police in this situation would allow the perpetrator to ‘get away.’ Land owners feel violated when their 100 year old maple is suddenly gone, find trash from an illegal encampment or reminants of a meth lab on a corner of their land. Protection of property is up to the owner,… Let him use what ever means necessary. Dont lock him up trying to keep out laws from ransacking his property. WTH? paranoia? Guns? Yeah we have tweakers lurking for a score on N tower and spencer rd. believe it. Allowing tweakers to trade food stamps for meth doesnt necessarily make the crime rate go down. lol Just because you dont see crime from your computer screen doesnt mean it doesnt happen on the back 40. The problem is they like prosecuting gun crimes to wittle away at your gun rights,… to make the problem worse than it is. Criminals will always have guns. A crazy dude who mows down a disco with a bushmaster has nothing to do with the everyday law abiding CPL carrier or constitutional rights in general, but they media makes it a issue with politics which it clearly is not. The law abiding citizen which this man clearly was and is,…suffers the loss of his gun rights. Because of you said it “paranoia” but its your own and its media induced.
Another typical old lewis county man who thinks a gun makes him a bad ass.
In reading the story, I don’t see that he “walked off a job onto someone’s property”. I believe the story states it occurred on the “property line”. The story also does not indicate the man accused the victim of coming onto his property, merely threatening him if he did so.
It also indicates that after the man pointed the gun at him, he walked off the job after the encounter. Also don’t see where the man with the gun even inquired what the man was doing, altho I imagine it was pretty obvious if he was cutting brush. Sounds like an overdose of testosterone to me, along with some paranoia. Paranoia and guns are a lousy combination.
Also where is the “money going to roll in” from? Who is paying who, for what?
This reminds me of the scene off the movie deliverance lol.- Now squeal like a piggie. Lol
Some old man pointed pistol at me and I was scared. Now gonna call 911. LoL
Just feel lucky he didn’t pull the trigger. Like we need more inmates. Esp. Old sick ones standing up for their property rights. Welcome to ‘merica!
These types of cases make tons of headlines? Why? Because somewhere along the line you lost your rights and media wants you to know it. Now watch the money roll in.
So the “Victim” walked off a job onto someone’s property, someone who legally has the constitutional right to protect it at all cost, encounteted the property owner and he was an angry old man with a gun. And because he used his gun in a legal way to determine if the victim was there for criminal activity or not, he’s now in jail?
He should be fined and that’s all. Not locked up where his property can be assaulted by whoever he was protecting it from to begin with.
Don’t get me wrong, I have zero tolerance for misuse of firearms and menacing with firearms. But there’s surely more to this story.
This is the old gun first ask later scenario.
