CHEHALIS – The sheriff’s office has referred a March homicide case to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office, recommending a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 58-year-old Guy LaFontaine.
LaFontaine died from injuries following an assault the 11,000 block of U.S. Highway 12 in Randle, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
A relative, Erik R. Massa, 43, of Randle, was initially arrested and booked for second-degree murder, but was released pending further investigation. Sheriff’s Cmdr. Steve Aust said detectives are now requesting Massa be charged with second-degree murder.
LaFontaine, who lived in Federal Way, had been taken to a hospital closer to his home where he died March 13. He worked at Todd Shipyards in Seattle as a welder.
Aust said the sheriff’s office investigation was completed and yesterday sent to prosecutors.
They had been waiting for reports from the Washington State Crime Lab, according to Aust.

R.I.P.
HAPPY B-DAY
WE ALL LOVE YOU SO SOO MUCH….
LIFE WILL NEVER SEEM THE SAME WITH OUT YOU.
LOVE YOU PA PA
YOU DAUGHTER
XOXO
I worked with Guy at Todds and carpooled with him up until his life was ended, way to soon. I miss him and his comic relief. No matter the circumstances no one deserves to have their life ended like that. I hope and pray for swift justice, this has just been drawn out to long. My Best Wishes to the Family. To Guy; You are now soaring with the eagles of your native land. Miss you Pal.
Guns not only kill people by bullets, they are used to beat people. And since a shotgun had been used in the killing, should that not be grounds for First Degree Murder???
RIP Papa Guy, we love you.
We the Boilermakers where Guy had been a member for 30 plus years hope you follow up on this. Guy was loved and helped his members for 15 years as a Chief Shop Steward. He is deeply missed by all that knew him at Todd Shipyards Seattle. 2nd degree is serious and we all knew Guy did not have the ability to fight back. By his wounds that is easy to see. We hope to see justice prevail. Guy ran the weld lab and helped so many young learn the skill and trade.
Guy had two broken eye sockets. His face had been stomped on and a shotgun butt broken off over his face. Also multiple places all over his body where he had been beaten. Massa was unharmed and fifteen years younger that Guy. Guy was diabetic etc. and not in great health. You wouldn’t know it though by his nature. We’ll see if the jury can see the facts and the family can start healing. We miss Guy also every day.

To WJS:
You are correct, Massa will have a story to tell. But remember this, a dead man can not talk or defend against slanderous accusations. I trust the good people of Lewis County will let the evidence in the case do the talking, not a person facing prison with a murder charge.
I’ve heard conflicting stories. That Lafontaine was drug abusive and threatening that day. But you still don’t get those injuries from self defense. He was beaten and stomped when he was unconcious or nearly unconcious. Massa has a story to tell and it’s hard to say were the truth is. Anyway it’s good that the sheriff’s department have finally wrapped up their case and Massa can tell it to a Jury or work out a plea deal with the prosecutor.
Guy was a great person who had a very good knack for resolving problems and working to make all understand common threads in life. He is missed by all of us. Rest peacefully my friend.
All his co workers at Todd Shipyards of Seattle are 100% behind the prosecutors in finally giving Justice to Guy’s family. He was very liked by all that came in contact with him.He was one that would go the extra mile to help anyone !
Thank you Lewis County!
Finally, the first step in allowing my family to start healing from this terrible loss. My father is missed dearly every single day and we are looking forward to justice being served.
