IN-TOWN ROUNDUP

• A cow being off-loaded at the veterinary hospital on the 1300 block of South Gold Street escaped, leading to a police pursuit that took five police officers about two and a half hours yesterday evening. At one point the animal “bowled over” one individual and also led to the bus garage on South Locust Street, according to the Centralia Police Department. Eventually it was tranquilized and returned to its owner, according to police.

WAL-MART ARRESTS

• A 41-year-old suspected shoplifter reportedly got into a struggle with a police officer in the Wal-Mart parking lot yesterday morning in Chehalis, leading to a minor hand injury for the officer, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Police called just before 8 a.m. to the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue were told he had filled up backpacks with merchandise but dropped them before leaving the building, according to police. It turns out Imra G. Vanwolvelaere and his female companion had arrived to the store in a stolen truck, Deputy Chief Randy Kaut said. He was arrested for third-degree assault and Julia E. Tucker, 35, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, Kaut said. The Easton-area pair were booked into the Lewis County Jail.

UP IN SMOKE

• A deputy who contacted individuals parked after hours last night at the post office on the 100 block of Gershick Road in Silver Creek recognized from his training the large plume of smoke that exited the passenger window as coming from marijuana, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. The keys were in the ignition of the vehicle which was was running and the 19-year-old behind the wheel allegedly failed field sobriety tests, according to the sheriff’s office. Blood was drawn from Tristan B. Watson via warrant at Providence Centralia Hospital and he was arrested, Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said. The Mossyrock resident was booked into the Lewis County Jail for being in physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated and minor in possession of marijuana, Brown said.

REPORT OF SCAM

• Centralia police were called at 1 p.m. yesterday by a man at the 300 block of West Pine Street who reported he was convinced to send money overseas to an unknown person via bank transfer. The case is still under investigation, according to the Centralia Police Department.

OTHER THEFT

• Centralia police took a report from an individual who called 911 about 4 p.m. yesterday from the 1200 block of Mellen Street, who said they loaned their cell phone to a stranger and left for a minute and when they returned, both were gone.

NIGHTTIME VISITOR ARRESTED

• A 35-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief after allegedly throwing a rock and breaking the glass screen door on a residence on the 600 block of Northwest Folson Street in Chehalis. Police called at 1:35 a.m. today booked Carey R. Cosgrove into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Cosgrove and the resident know each other, police said.

COP INTERVENES FOR THERAPEUTIC COMPANION DOG

• Morton police on Tuesday morning were called to the 500 block of Adams Avenue where an individual said he had been turned away from a business because of his therapeutic companion dog. The officer researched the state and federal law regarding service dogs and informed the individuals denying the man access that the man had the proper doctor’s paperwork and approval, according to the Morton Police Department.

FROM THE COURTHOUSE

• Prosecutors charged a 61-year-old Chehalis man yesterday with unlawful use of a building for drug purposes after arresting his grown son for allegedly selling drugs at least once from their shared home on Southwest Fourth Street, off Market Boulevard. Craig A. Godsey, 61, and Michael N. Godsey, 29, were both arrested on Wednesday, the same day a warrant was served at the residence by members of the Lewis County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team. Court documents state that twice since Jan. 1 a confidential informant purchased heroin from the younger Godsey. The father allegedly admitted to police on Wednesday he was a methamphetamine user and told them they would find a pipe in his room. A search of the son’s room allegedly turned up two baggies of suspected meth, a digital scale with a brown substance on its plate and two suspected forged checks written out to Michael Godsey, according to charging documents. Michael Godsey was charged yesterday in Lewis County Superior Court with two counts of delivery of heroin, one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, one count of possession of heroin and two counts of forgery. His bail was set at $20,000. His father’s bail was set with a $10,000 unsecured bond.

SAVING LIVES

• “It was a good day,” Chehalis Fire Department member Derek Pedersen said of his 24-hour shift that ended this morning. Firefighters and medics called at 6:45 p.m. yesterday to a home on Fourth Street for a man who was unconscious were able to revive him with CPR and by “zapping” him twice, Pedersen said. The patient was talking and laughing by the time he got to the hospital, he said. Pedersen called it miraculous, something that doesn’t happen very often.
