CHEHALIS – Though numerous individuals gathered yesterday for the sentencing of Brenda A. Wing regarding the death of the 3-year-old she and her husband were caring for in Vader, that’s not what took place.
Instead, lawyers on the two sides and the judge spoke for about 15 minutes about three issues: a written motion filed by the prosecutor, whether the defendant lived up to her end of the plea agreement and whether all the requirements of the agreement had yet been met.
Jasper Henderling-Warner died on Oct. 5 of last year from what the coroner called chronic battered child syndrome.
Among the many sitting in benches in Lewis County Superior Court were a handful of Jasper’s supporters who wore matching T-shirts, with an ominous statement across their backs:
“Rot in hell Danny & Brenda Wing; Evil has been seen.”
Danny Wing was sent to prison in September for 34 years and eight months.
Conflicting stories and an inability to figure out just what occurred led to deals with the Wings this past spring which required them to truthfully describe what happened, in exchange for guilty pleas on first-degree manslaughter and third-degree assault, and then recommendations they be locked up for about 16 years.
Danny Wing failed the lie detector test meant to evaluate his honesty, and prosecutors were free, under the terms of the agreement, to seek an exceptionally long sentence.
At issue, in part, yesterday was a passage in the plea agreement between the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office and Brenda Wing’s lawyer John Crowley that required the use of Washington state licensed polygraphers.
Washington state doesn’t license that profession.
That came to light when Danny Wing was sentenced and yesterday the judge repeated his surprise about the wording.
“I find it astonishing that is in there,” Hunt said. “I’ve known we don’t license them since I began practicing.”
According to Crowley and Lewis County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Will Halstead, the plea agreement provided for both the state and the defense to conduct polygraph examinations.
Prosectors had an unlicensed Washington State Patrol polygrapher do theirs. The results for Brenda Wing were inconclusive.
Last month, prosecutors went ahead and got an Oregon-licensed polygrapher to conduct another test with Brenda Wing.
Halstead says she was found to be being deceptive. Crowley said she “supposedly” failed that test.
They are scored on a spectrum, with a gray area in the middle, Crowley said outside the courtroom.
During yesterday’s hearing, Crowley seemed to insinuate to the judge, he hadn’t yet gotten a polygraph done for his client because the agreement calls for a Washington licensed polygrapher, and there is no such kind of person.
Judge Hunt gave him a choice.
They could proceed with sentencing if Crowley would “endorse” the state’s polygraph done by the Oregon polygrapher, or they could return on a later date after Crowley got a licensed polygrapher from any state he chose to do an examination.
Hunt seemed to suggest by his questions that he considered the state’s first and inconclusive polygraph as a non-polygraph.
Crowley consulted briefly with Brenda Wing and then informed the judge they’d like to exercise the second option.
Judge Hunt apologized to the audience for the postponement.
“I want to be clear, the only reason I’m doing this is the stakes are high,” Hunt said.
Unfinished discussions before the hearing ended made clear prosecutors believe Brenda Wing didn’t fulfill her obligations under the plea agreement, because she omitted some information during her interviews. They will be seeking an exceptionally long sentence for her, according to Halstead.
Crowley indicated to the judge he didn’t believe the information she didn’t disclose was material.
Judge Hunt stated Brenda Wing did breach the agreement.
The two sides agreed to return to the courtroom for her sentencing on Dec. 16 at 1:30 p.m.

@Sleepless: That statement really sounds like a cry for help from you. The root cause of anger and hatred, like most other problems, is fear.
My 9th self rule for happiness is:
9: If you are angry or anxious, identify and examine your fear behind it.
One less mouth on the welfare
Dear heartbroken I cannot even begin to or want to imagine what you witnessed and how it has changed your life. I did not see Jasper as you did, but it did take me months I mean months to sleep after learning of this. Every 3 year old boy, every blue sky, everything made me think of him. I would cry at work, in a store, at home. That is why I have such a hard time with this “family”. I do not understand why their money and efforts are not going to Jaspers garden or Jaspers law. I just don’t think these people have felt what I have, a complete stranger to him.
In response to many of the “hate” posts, I happen to be ONE of the ones seated in the front row, wearing a T-shirt that reads “Justice for Jasper”. I am not related to Casey nor Nikki, nor did I know them at the time of Jasper’s death. Next to me, in the front row is my son, who also did know Casey or Nikki and was also not present at the time of Jasper’s death. But I do fully support changing our state laws so that persons who do this to a child do face a harsher sentence. It is so easy to judge and make snap decisions on what many know nothing about. The shirts represent Jasper and ” Jasper’s Law” which can be found at change.org. That petition will be sent to our state legislature to hopefully address our current laws regarding “Homicide by Abuse”. As for the GoFundMe…Nikki did not set that up. Nikki and Casey are not communicating. Jasper WAS cremated. There is no money being collected by Nikki Warner. Regardless of what everyone THINKS they believe, Jasper died at the hands of Danny and Brenda Wing. Some of you may feel that the front row in the courthouse is a ” faux”, but you are wrong. Some of us were not in Jasper’s life at the time, but that won’t negate the importantancy of trying to save other Jasper’s!
I was there in court that day. Not for the family but for the little boy who no one cared about and I’ll continue to support this child even though I never knew him. Someone should be there for him, if not in life than in death just the same. I am thuroghly disgusted by all of those who said they were friends of the parents or “Jasper’s God parent” Where in the hell were you when the choice was made to literally deliver him to his death? Isn’t a God parent supposed to take over for a biological parent in an event such as this? Where are all these people that love and miss him so deeply now, why aren’t you at these heart wrenching hearings? Why is money still being collected? Why do these justice for Jasper shirts even speak of the monsters responsible instead of the beautiful child that was beaten until his innocent little soul slipped away? I go to bed every night and wish I would have I know. I wish I could have saved him, but I know it was all part of a grander plan. My heart breaks every day for You Jasper. I am so sorry your life was ripped away
They have had 2 memorials for this child , 2 gofundme accounts . How many times can this child be buried? Why are they trying to repeat after also receiving $5000.00 from victims fund, for burial . Isn’t this some kind of fraud taking place . And let’s not forget the t-shirts for sale …..
This “family” should be stoned, shamed, and never allowed to be in public! Where were you when Jasper needed you most? Oh yes someplace else trying to get attention and money. Justice will be served tomorrow on the 2nd sentencing however Jaspers womb donator should be next in line
I agree Bobby. Nothing but a bunch of Facebook faux caring opportunists.
The “parents” Nikki Warner & Casey KC Henderling need to be gone right along side the Wings!
So the entire front row of the courtroom for “justice” for Jasper. Where were they when Jasper was alive and needed a safe home? Please let’s just end this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CASEY HENDERLING & NIKKI WARNER ARE FRAUDS!!

Once again the blundering incompetence of Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Jonathan Meyer and his cohorts shines through. How in the hell could anyone in his position or in the position of a prosecuting attorney not know that Washington State does not license polygraphers???? That is pretty much common knowledge. Not only should Brenda Wing get in trouble but the way this case has been handled, residents of Lewis County should consider reelecting a new prosecutor in 2018.
Unfreaking believable! For God’s sake let’s get this bitch sentenced and sent to prison. Maybe we can play this out for the next ten years or so.
I have never been a supporter of vigilantes but maybe it’s time for a tree and a rope. Of course I do not mean this but this whole case is frustrating me.
