CHEHALIS – A Lewis County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said it’s not clear exactly what caused a baby to be ejected from the car in the wreck that left its driver dead on Sunday evening south of Chehalis.

Deputies and firefighters responded just before 9:45 p.m. to the single-vehicle collision along the 3100 block of Jackson Highway.
Kelsie Gonzalez, 31, of Chehalis, was dead at the scene and her infant passenger was found outside of the car.
Newaukum Valley Fire and Rescue Firefighter Brad Bozarth said the car hit a fence, a parked van and couple of trees before coming to rest against another tree, in someone’s yard.
The sheriff’s office’s initial information was Gonzalez was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed, and went airborne after striking a ditch.
Sheriff’s Cmdr. Dusty Breen said the 1-year-old’s car seat was still inside the 1990 Acura and secured in the car, but the straps which would have been holding the baby to its car seat were not fastened.
“Based on this it is unclear where the child was and how the exact ejection of the child occurred,” Breen indicated.
He said the baby was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where it was still undergoing treatment the following morning. He didn’t know if the child was a girl or a boy.
Breen said he expected to know more by Friday, as the investigating deputy would be finishing the report after days off.
The Lewis County Coroner’s Office said Gonzalez died from internal injuries from the impact.

maybe it was an act of God or maybe the baby has a guardian angle? Where was the baby ejected from? Did it go through a window? Maybe she was fleeing from someone and just grabbed the baby and left? These are questions we do not know the answers to. Please dont judge until all the facts are in. I dont know her or her family I am just reading all these posts and its not fair to say these things when you dont know why she was driving fast and the baby was not secure, maybe she didnt have time, maybe she feared for her and her childs life?

to all you people in the world who sit and look down at people who you consider to not be as upstanding or perfect as you…why dont you refrain from assuming cause we all know what happens when you assume stuff. you didnt know her life or anything about what she was going through. she was a beautiful young mother who i knew for many years. she was a good person who may have struggled from time to time but always tried to do what was right. she never would have intentionally hurt anyone especially her own child. sometimes things just happen. this was one of those tragic accidents that took a human life. to place blame or pass judgement is not our job. we should all thank the Lord that he didnt take Kelsie’s beautiful baby girl with her. it was not her time. and i know i will never be as judgmental when i remember the young women who was almost always smiling .especially when she was with her children. so why dont you guys find some other person or shiny thing to sit and conversate about because Kelsie’s family and friends are trying to memorialize her also.

As a mother of two, both of mine have managed to unbuckle themselves while I was driving. Is anyone taking into consideration that maybe the mother had noticed her child had unbuckled and glanced into the backseat as to why the crash happened in the first place? Im sure she loved her child too but accidents happen! I dont understand how people can be so judgemental!
As a parent, I cannot imagine leaving my child unsecured in a vehicle. I LOVE being a parent. Caring for her, protecting her, teaching her… it’s WONDERFUL! How can ANYONE not take the basic precaution of securing their infant?
