CHEHALIS – An inmate at Green Hill School in Chehalis escaped last night apparently through a hole cut in the fence.
Officers called about 9 p.m. to the state-run juvenile incarceration facility at the south end of town were told the teen was on a maintenance detail, then ran off, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
A hole was found cut in the fence and another staff member reported seeing an older red car in the area, honking its horn and flashing its lights, Chehalis Deputy Chief Randy Kaut said this morning.
“We think whoever was there to pick him up probably made the hole,” Kaut said.
Kaut said 19-year-old Dominic A. Adams was doing time at Green Hill for escape. He said he didn’t know the underlying offense, or what part of the state he is from.
Officers last night requested a K-9 to conduct a track, but there were no police dogs available Kaut said.
He expected detectives this morning would be conducting inquires into where Adams might have friends or family.
Green Hill School is a secure facility for older juvenile boys incarcerated for felonies and operated by the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration, under the state Department of Social and Health Services. It sits between Interstate 5 and Southwest Pacific Avenue north of Southwest Parkland Street.
It was November of 2010 when a 16-year-old inmate-student climbed out his window during the night, took wire cutters from an unlocked building on the campus to cut a hole in the fence, and was discovered missing the following morning. He was picked up in Yelm three weeks later.
Chehalis police are asking anyone with information on last night’s incident to contact Lewis County dispatch at 360-740-1105.

Victoria: I don’t mean to embarrass you, and I hope you will not become defensive and ignore me. Given this young man’s violent criminal history, and your own apparent position of authority, your statements are extremely concerning. Please learn what you can about the practice of “Downing a Duck;” maybe share it with your peers. We all have blind spots.
It’s ridiculous how people who have never seen/been inside Green Hill, let alone met this kid, feel like they can legitimately comment on the issue as if they know anything about it. He’s a kid! And to the people who keep saying that he should be sent to an adult facility right now and Blah blah, have you ever spent the night in a place like that? Screw you. He’s 19 years old and one of the smartest and most talented kids I know, facing a crap ton of time. He’s being portrayed as this violent monster yet I’ve never felt threatened around him, not once. I am not condoning his actions but I get it. I just pray he’s safe and he comes to terms with whatever he needs to.
While it’s not as bad as some portray, it’s better than most of the residents experienced on the “outs”. The youth are taught skills to better themselves, some even get to go to a off hill program to a class to ready them for the job market.. there is a handful of staff that actually do love what they do and are passionate about they’re job, myself included. Being a 16 year veteran of the hill, I have seen a lot of change, mostly for the better of the youth. That being said, the youth in question here, due to the violent nature of his last escape, should have been sent to DOC on his 18th birthday. Let’s hope the “educated” ones learned from they’re mistake…
IDIOTKILLER. Please take the killer portion of your name off and just use the name IDIOT.
That place sucks I just got out a there and if I had his 14 years I woulda dipped to good luck bro I’ll miss you
BobbyinLC, What you are missing is the fact that he is already on adult status. There are lots of kids that there are serving adult time. They should be in an adult institution, but they are at Green Hill School instead—mixed in with the other kids that aren’t so violent that are not serving adult time.
The news reports need to dig deeper into the truth. This kid has escaped many times before and has seriously hurt people to get out. Now he is running around the community. He is a violent gang member that is what is call a “shot caller” that was doing DOC time. Why wasn’t he put in the Department of Corrections where he really belongs?
If you only knew about the people that run that place, you would understand just how corrupt it really is. Upper management doesn’t allow positive change. The Associate Superintendents all are crooks. If there was only a federal investigation, would you really know the truth. No one would allow it. It is a waste of WA State monies! It should have been closed years ago!
Idiot killer: I agree we should not judge the kids because they are in Green Hill. I agree to that adult time is not the answer. However wishing he gets away forever is kind of simplistic until we know what his original charges were. If they were for a serious felony then he needs to return to serve his time.
I agree that what goes on in our correctional facilities is bad, especially for kids and I am not sure what the answer is.
Only in Lewis County!!! Damn, hope he gets caught!!!
I am not saying it is ok he escaped, I am saying that if the public knew what these kids go through every day and the mental abuse they suffer from both inmates and staff, you would understand why he escaped. I personally hope this kid makes it away permanently.
Sharyn L. Decker, Green Hill School is not just for youth in who have been convicted of felonies. I have known many who were there on gross misdemeanors. I was once on of those people. BobbyinLC, If you only know the horrors that go on inside of that place you would understand why the young man escaped. Giving someone adult time and ruining their future as an adult is not the answer. Improving the conditions that those kids have to live in is. Also, having people go in there and let those kids know that there are people in this world that love them and care about them would curtail a lot of this. Most of them are foster kids, and others that have come from broken homes. Letting them know that they are not societies throw aways would really curtail this. Also, teaching them a trade like plumbing, pipe fitting, painting, auto collision would really build these young men’s futures. QUIT JUDGING THESE KIDS AND LOVE THEM MORE!!!!!!!!!!!
the article says it is a secure facility, but someone just escaped? The question is “is it really a secure facility”?
He is serving time for escape and……….escapes. At 19 maybe it is time to bump him to adult status. That depends of course on what the offense was he committed as a juvenile. Maybe some adult time would slow him down or it might make him worse. No good answers.
